I'm a native NYer, but the current state of the NYC real estate landscape is still really bewildering to me at times. One day, you're walking past this boarded-up, crack house that's been in shambles your whole life on the sketchier part of Astoria's Broadway, and often have running thoughts on how the hell this place was ever inhabitable and who the hell would ever buy this place. And the next thing you know, some investors and developers snatch up this land to knock said crack house down and spin it into a new apartment building with a clean coffee shop. This side of Astoria has always been rather underserved and overlooked, and there was a time when I could recite almost every business within these 2-3 blocks that didn't move. Besides the corner cafe that's been serving the community for ages, I'm glad to see dedicated coffee shops finally sprouting on this side because it needed one badly. The best part is that it's Greek-owned, which is a testament that Astoria's Greek presence is still very strong-- and I'm sure most of the Greek residents would continue to show out for its fellow Greeks. Coffee is always great, and it does very much feel like I'm in Greece at times--even those thin straws they use are literally the same ones they use in Greece. I've only gotten a lemon poppyseed loaf once and that was very filling. read more

Very cute and very small Greek cafe. Their displays look just like they do in Greece! They have baguette sandwiches of a great variety which you can also find in Greece, spinach pies, frittatas, stuffed croissants (pistachio, Nutella, almond croissant and plain butter. Crepes are on the menu as well. There are a great variety of coffees, hot and cold and juices. I opted for a small, Greek juice drink. My husband liked his Fredo espresso and I liked my Nutella croissant. We were greeted warmly and served quickly. The inside is small but there are about 5 counter stools. read more

The people working here were really kind, but we honestly found the baked goods to be only so-so. The chocolate croissant and almond croissant didn't have the buttery, flakey texture we were hoping for. My pistachio loaf was a bit too heavy for me. Visiting New York for a week and this coffee shop was only a short walk from where I stayed. I visited this place every morning and it was consistently wonderful. I tried a couple of Americanos, vanilla iced latte, the red eye, and the black eye, and also one of their frittatas. Everything was great. The coffee is nice and strong the way I like it. Also, the service is wonderful and I wish I could take this place back with me to my local neighborhood. read more

Sweet Habit is a Greek bakery in Astoria that has some awesome pastries, albeit their croissants fell flat for me so I'd rather stick to their traditional Greek pastries instead. Great spot to hit on a Monday morning! They have a Freddo cappuccino that is spectacular, if you are a coffee lover like me you will thank me later. The service was quick and very amicable which comes very handy for a Monday morning, am I right? I ordered some pastries for work and it was a great choice, their almond croissants are delicious, creamy on the inside, crispy on the outside and they are huge ! I ordered hazelnut iced latte today and I used my credit card. The latte was great but I was so pissed off when I checked the receipt. I was charged for convenience fee which is 3% and also credit card surcharge that is another 3%. The iced latte is $5.50 and convenience fee, 3% is $0.17 then credit card surcharge, 3% is $0.18. So I was charged $6.34 in total. On the receipt it says "To cover the cost of accepting credit cards, we collected a 3% credit card surcharge" I read this after I got the receipt. I was never informed when I paid for it. The guy (i guess he is the owner) asked me if I'm going to pay in cash or credit card. There was no sign that says there is a fee if you use a credit card. This is ridiculous. They should stop doing this to customers. I will never go back there again. read more

Stayed with my friends in Astoria for a few days during my NY trip and stumbled upon this coffee shop - and I'm so glad I did. I strictly only drink iced black americanos when it comes down to coffee, and this was hands down the BEST one I've ever had (in NYC / in my life??) Very disappointing. What I thought would be a nice little coffee house turned out to be a hole-in-wall dreary cafe with blah coffee and munchies, not to mention very expensive. We arrived at Sweet Habit for refreshments before the Mansion club opened for lunch. Service at best was not particularly friendly, and we left unfulfilled. Came by on a Saturday evening to grab a quick coffee and snack before heading somewhere else. Small outpost with a couple of chairs outside as well as tables indoors if staying. To drink, ordered a regular Latte ($4.50) which was made with whole milk and sprinkled over by some cinnamon. Fantastic flavor albeit not as strong as I would have liked. As for food, many of the remaining pastry options didn't look appetizing. Settled on a pre-packaged Cranberry Nut Cookie ($4), which is a little dry yet paired well alongside the latte. Service here was quick as I was the only one inside. Do like the fact that the spot is open late, and there are packaged sandwiches/salads for a decent lunch option. read more

It was 8:40 PM and their website says they are open until 9 PM. was told they were closed. when i suggested they update their website, the owner challenged me to write about this... so here I am. there is a lot of competition here in Astoria, for example Barista that has great crepes, this is NOT how you retain loyal customers. it's the attitude of the owner that hurt more than anything else. read more

This little coffee shop has the best espresso Freddo I have had in NYC. All their crepes are made right in front of you with their traditional Greek crepe batter..mmm! They have fresh squeezed juice, oatmeal, wraps, croissant sandwiches, fresh pastries and daily baked goods. They have delicious coffees, teas, smoothies and great prices. I'm always greeted with a cheerful hello and I know they're always smiling behind their masks. This place is clean, safe and has such a warm hospitable environment. The owner takes pride in everything done at this establishment. They have nice benches and tables to sit at outside:) I've driven half an hour to get a coffee from here after a terrible coffee from somewhere else before! If you have not been here you need to try it! Espresso Freddo is a Greek coffee and Sweet Habit has the best most authentic, perfectly made, delicious Greek coffee in New York if you ask me! It's a cute place. Clean and the staff is nice. Ice lattes are okay. However, The matcha can be made better (you want a dark green color). The premade sandwiches are really pricy. I ordered an ice latte and got a sandwich, and my bill was around $18! Just a heads up so no one is as surprised as I was. What a great little cafe! I was waiting for my car to get fixed nearby and this was a perfect place to spend an hour. Excellent coffee and lots of non-dairy milk options for those who want them. I also got a pistachio croissant and it was delicious. The baristas were very friendly and suggested delicious pies to go, which our whole family enjoyed at home. I see some comments about their prices but, frankly, they don't seem to be out of line anywhere in New York. The place is small, but that's the charm of it and there are also a few tables outside. So coffee is ok, croissant was good, BGC not what I signed up for. Overly seasoned with pepper/ other mystery seasoning without it being included in a description. Not just some but a lot if you are not a fan of seasoning in your eggs. I called bout it to suggest it be included in the description Bc I wouldn't not have order it, I was told "its call seasoning" and "you should have requested none"... although i wasn't aware that it's included... so the cycle continues.
