There is indoor and outdoor seating. We lucked out and got an inside table. Although it was a little warm inside it was still nice to be inside in the Texas heat. The staff is super friendly! Went for lunch on Sunday and it was just average - I got the impression we maybe came on an off day. We sat at the bar and the service was pretty hands-off. Ordered a salad, cheese fonduta, and a pasta. We tried to order another pasta but most were not available for some reason. The kale salad was great, the fonduta was cold and congealed shredded cheese, and the Rigatoni de la casa was so-so (cooked well, sauce was fine, but there was only one bite of artichoke and 3 olives in the whole dish). I was a little disappointed at the limited menu, horrible parking (i had to park on street a block away), and stingy AC on a very hot day. The "margarita" was tiny. My Spicy Capicola sandwich was also disappointing. I thought it would come on ciabatta bread--to be fair, the menu didn't say that!--but instead it was a gummy white roll that was a bit cold when it arrived. On the 100-degree day there was very little indoor seating, which was not as cool as the bread on my sandwich. I ate about half of my sandwich, then took it home, added a few condiments, then toasted it, which improved it immensely. My BF had a good, though small Caprese, which he said was quite good. I asked how his "Mambo Italiano" sandwich was, he just shrugged and said, "It'll do." When I looked at the bill, for 2 sandwiches, Caprese, soda, and itsy bitsy Margarita, when I thought about the hot hike back to my car, how I'd tipped for counter service (before the service happened), I told BF that I'd rather go somewhere else next time we want Italian. God, I love this place. Something about the ambiance is so refreshing and comforting to me. I could sit here for hours, I just feel like I'm in a European cafe without a care in the world. Staff is friendly, menu has great options. Happy hour prices are impressive, plus it's a daily happy hour which is hard to beat. The spicy capicola sandwich was amazing. I didn't want it to end. The spicy Mayo on it ties it together perfectly. I guess my only complaint with the food would be I don't like plain lays haha so I wish there was another side option but I usually just take them home and someone else eats them. The sandwich and chips was $11, which I think is fair. The mocktail was $7 which I think is a little high considering the house margarita runs for the same price. The Caprese was just a Caprese but my friends had the meatballs which were massive in portion size and came with a gravy-soaked bread. The outside you can smoosh tables together if you have a large group, it's fairly easy. There is a covered patio with fans but it is still really hot, so just be aware! The inside is very small with a couple of tables. No bar seating. Food: 3.5/5 Food and drinks were overall pretty good! The aperol spritz felt like it could use more aperol in my opinion, it wasn't that orange. Great happy hour deals though!! It's 2-5 everyday which is insane and they have $7 aperol and $6 meatballs which is honestly a very large portion. These also have some free tapas, but it's first come first serve. We got there at 4 on a Sunday and there was very little left. Service: 2/5 I think, and not that I really blame them, but they were definitely overwhelmed by our group. They also kinda ran out of plates / glasses which was surprising because it wasn't over crowded when we got there. You order at a counter so no special service here / dining. Friday night fun! We came back n here for just a drink and quick bite and were immediately in love with the small quaint atmosphere but were totally blown away with how yummy it all was. We didn't have to wait long. Our drinks arrived just before our food. The espresso martini was not only beautiful and smelled amazing, but it was delicious as well. Perfect spot to catch up with a friend for lunch. Stumbled upon here because I was buying cheese at the shop next door and decided to give it a try! I tried their Pane Tostato Classico and Mambo Italiano. I would definitely recommend the Pane Tostato Classico over and over again! The honey and ricotta paired perfectly as a starter and were great with the prosciutto. The interior of the shop was also very quaint and clean. One thing to note is that there's not a lot of seating for a large party of over 4 people but there is plenty of seating outdoors if you move some chairs around! As for parking, there are a couple of spots in the front but there's an additional parking lot in the back. Overpriced for what you get. Portion for roasted chicken alfredo was small. It's $17. Same meal at Olive Garden is like 22, but twice the size and is much tastier. Here, the pasta noodles are spaghetti and not linguine or fettuccine. The sauce to noodle ratio was quick to become too unpleasant to keep eating. I also got the breakfast sandwich. It was fine, but the bread not being toasted made it hard to eat after a while because it kept falling apart. I finished neither items. Great happy hour here. You can get a cheese plate for about $10 and crispy piadana for about $4. They have an early happy hour from 2-5. This is kind of an all day type of place that has breakfast and lunch/dinner options. The kitchen is small so it's amazing that they can make some tasty dishes here. Love their sandwiches and appetizers especially the poached shrimp with a basil sauce. The porchetta sandwich is a go to if you have an appetite and not to mention one of the few places in Austin you can get this sandwich. They also have all day breakfast with more brunch like items available on the weekends. I had their pasta before but wasn't a fan as it was watery but that was a couple years ago. They also have a bar menu focused negroni's and recently they have a section of coffee based cocktails which is great. Wow, a reminder of my days as a kid in New Jersey all bottled up in a small Italian joint that does a fantastic job! Located with Hotel Eleven is a great Italian joint serving up what I call mouthfuls of memories. Italian cuisine with a tristate feel. They may claim it to be something else but to me it is my childhood and nothing could be finer. I scoured ATX looking for Pork Roll (aka Taylor Ham by some) and stumbled upon this place. They serve them as Breakfast sando's which are a local NJ fav of mine when I was a kid. Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches on a hard roll. It's close enough for me that I'll be making this a regular weekend affair now. Their weekend breakfasts are amazing as well. I am usually put off a bit by foccacia (too much bread/too dry usually) but they have it perfect! They have Campari of course for those jonesing for Negroni's and such as well. It's a chill vibe going on and they are distancing very well here with tables spaced apart. I will comment the Italian sandwich wasn't for me but perhaps because I'm used to it a different way - maybe next time. Randomly popped into Uncle Nicky's for lunch and it was a pleasant surprise. It's a super small but cute bistro, with an almost co-work type of setting indoors and has an outdoor patio area as well. You order at the counter and they bring out the food to you. They have a pretty stocked bar as well. There weren't that many gluten free options as that is something I was specifically looking for, so I ordered the chicken caesar salad. But y'all, this is actually now one of my fav salads in town. This was a disappointing first time visit to Uncle Nicky's. We were in on a Sunday evening just before 6pm and it was not busy at all. We walked right up to the counter to place our order. The person helping us was generally friendly. I ordered the most disappointing $16 chopped salad. Now I opted for this salad because it came with cheese and meat as it should at that price. But what was served was an oversized dinner salad with 4 small cubes of salami and a bit of cheese. I left very hungry. My husband got the tuna sandwich. It looked pretty small to me. It game with a bag of Lays potato chips. He said the tuna salad was tasty but otherwise unremarkable and didn't know what was Italian about the sandwich. I'm allergic to seafood so I can't speak to how his food was. Overall not that excited for their location on S Lamar to open which we had been because it's just down the street. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews (like once every 2-3 years). Most reviews I leave are 5-star ratings for places we really like and want to encourage others to try. I tend not to review 2-3-4 star places. But our experience at Uncle Nicky's *required* a review. In spite of the hype, everything about the cafe was disappointing in major ways. (Which is doubly sad, because they're about to open another cafe on South Lamar, near where we live.) The salad was a disaster. Hard to say much more. If you like black lettuce and odd dressing, this is your place. The Mambo Italiano sandwich was almost a joke. Tiny, on bad bread, and hardly anything authentically "Italian" about it. Seriously, ABGB makes an Italian sandwich that's 5X better. Thundercloud makes a better one. The bread was SO bad -- tiny and falling apart from the first moment. We also had to wait a weirdly long time for anything to come out even though they were absolutely not busy at all at the time (post lunch rush). We'll give them one more shot after they open down south, and we'll see if anything changes. read more
