Montclair is so much more pleasant on Sunday night. Parking is plenty and no wait for your restaurant. BYOB and supposedly the Whole Foods across the street is dry. So bring your bottle or hit Merit wine store which is just 2 blocks away. Apparently they deliver wine as well so if you know what you want you can do that too. Not sure about the delivery charge though. We were not too hungry so we were just going to share a few platters. The owner gave us the mezz platter on the house! Yippe!! And they were good so we are definitely going to order them again. Perfect combo with the fresh pita - super thin so won't fill you up. Lamb platter - basically lamb meatballs. Quite flavorful. Though didn't blow my mind. Moussaka with meat - BEST DISH! Perfect with the pita and also with rice. It's eggplant with meat and tomato sauce. I will come back just for this dish. Savory but slightly sweet at the same time. Grilled Bronzino with string beans - it's pretty hard to mess up a branzino. And for $19.95 it's quite a steal. Beware l, it's the whole fish so you do have to deal with the head, tail and bones. Lambahajin pizza - good but I think next time I will try the Moustache pizza. I like the decor inside... I have to say, I read all of the five-star reviews and was so, so excited to try this place! In the end, however, I have to say that we did not have the same experience as other Yelpers, and I still am not sure why that was. This place is in the former Indian restaurant, Taj Palace, and the setup is pretty much identical with different decorations. The French cafe feel that several Yelpers mentioned was there -- sort of -- the door on the bathroom was extremely charming, but the metal tables were stained which may just have been what happens with metal tables. But I wasn't overly impressed by the decor. We also weren't warmly greeted like the others who wrote about this -- we were the first two on a weekday night, and our server was perfectly fine. But not the "so-and-so was so funny" like one person wrote or the "as soon as we sat down dips and pita appeared" that someone else wrote. We started with a Fatouch salad, which was surprisingly unflavorful, including the feta. What made up for it -- and for any of the other impressions -- were the PHENOMENAL meat dishes we had as our main courses. We shared the Makanek (sausages) and the beef shawarma, and they were both outstanding. The only strange thing was that each dish came with french fries. The fries were fine -- but didn't quite fit with the meal. Maybe if they were thinner, like true pomme frites? But no, they were sort of typical diner fries. The shawarma, too, was out of this world, although I wish there'd been more of the sauce. People seemed pretty excited about the homemade pita, but we didn't care for the taste. I think were I to go back I'd be more likely to ask for rice with whatever dish I had. Which begs the question -- will I go back? Not sure. The meat was truly outstanding, and I usually don't even see food unless there's meat in it... But I'm not raving, so perhaps I'll continue to watch for other reviews and if I see more raves will return. read more

Hey, the food was good but the service was soooo poor. The owner/manager came to take the order - Just like 'what do you want?' No smile and no concept of customer service there at all. No eye contact at all. We ordered appetizers, main course and dessert. We kept waiting for a long time and the people did not bother to check if we were okay with the food. The only time the manager came was when we asked for someone to take the order. No eye contact , no smile. He was in such a bad mood. I can tell that Uncle Momo believes in delivering authentic Lebanese Cuisine. I ordered the Lentil Soup and Lamb Shish Kabab Plate and was fairly satisfied. The Lamb Plate was tasty and seasoned well but not what you expected. It came with basmati rice (a favorite), tomatoes and onion and not much else. The lamb itself was a bit a dry but the flavor made up for it. The Lentil Soup was so delicious, I literally drank it from the bowl. Next time I would love to Dine-in, get the full experience and try some of their other offerings. Who knew Lebanese Brunch was the move! Me and 4 of my friends went here for Saturday brunch. I got the Momo's breakfast (5, big portion of a little bit of everything, favorites were potatoes, tabouli and naan), a coffee (4) and extra tabouli (5, so good I ordered more, served on huge pieces of lettuce cups), but everything we got was amazing. Between the five of us we got the shawarma sandwich, French toast, avocado toast, a crepe and more. Everything was devoured and well reviewed by my friends. A surprising favorite was their mint tea! It's a small BYOB shop, and they refer to themselves as "slow food". Ultimately, I didn't think the food took long, but the restaurant was not busy at the time. In the end, we paid $26 each, including a tip, and we felt like we were stealing. Well worth the price! I would love to try their dinner menu and will update my review if I do. Okay I came here with friends who highly recommended it and they were right, it was excellent! We were a table of six and we came around 2 so we were able to enjoy the brunch menu which was nice. Who doesn't love a good brunch? The service was pretty standard. Our waiter was quick and fairly attentive. We ordered hummus and pita for the table which were amazing. The hummus had a rich, homemade, and savory taste, I loved it. I love fresh hummus and this hummus was definitely fresh and so was the olive oil they poured on top. It was a delectable combination that paired marvelously with their pita which came right out of the oven. The pita was superb, you get to watch them make it in the oven right from your table so you know it's fresh. Although it does come very hot so let the steam out before taking a bite! The nice part about the pita is that it is very light and airy, unlike most pita which is usually thicker. It was nice to not feel like I was filling up in the pita, it was light to eat. I ordered Momo's breakfast for my entree and I asked for my eggs to be prepared over-hard. When they brought my eggs they were very runny and I was very disappointed. I was so hungry I ate them anyways but I hate my eggs like that. It really took away from the meal for me. The salad on my plate was simple but good. I expected a larger portion of tabouli and hummus because the entree is listed as being two eggs, tabouli, and hummus. However, it was a very small amount of each which also kind of disappointed me because both were excellent and I would have liked more. Overall, the quality and atmosphere are great. This was a suggestion from my airbnb host to go to as a brunch spot for a Valentine's Day 2021 date. Between all the places we went, this was absolutely the best food we had all day! Maybe even some of the best food I've ever had in Montclair or NYC. I will definitely be making this a regular brunch stop when I'm in Montclair. We got there right at 11am when they opened, and were immediately given a seat at a socially distanced table. Every other table and booth had huge stuffed bears sitting in the chairs to keep people separated which was a funny touch. It was good to see socially distanced dining as none of the other restaurants we had gone to were following those guidelines. I ordered the French toast, since that was heavily recommended by my host and is one of their most popular dishes. I was not disappointed at all and it lived up to the hype. Perfectly toasted, soft, with just the right amount of chew and not overly sweet or overly toasty. It came with fresh fruit and berries that tasted great too, even this time of the year. My date got the Middle Eastern breakfast, all of which was perfectly cooked. Great fresh eggs and vegetables, the flavor really speaks for itself here! I'd highly recommend Uncle Momo to anyone in the area looking for a new brunch spot because they really did everything right on our visit. We'll definitely be going back too! Oohhhhhh my I love. I came here with two friends on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. We just walked in and there was no wait. It's cute inside but I don't care about that!!!!!! We brought a six pack of beers (byob!!!!!) and we ordered the Momo mezze to share so we got to try most of the appetizers they offered, and wow!!! Everything was so tasty especially with the hot fresh pita they served. I ordered a smoked salmon and spinach crepe and it was ok, not the best salmon, spinach or smoked salmon I've had, but I had a bite of my friend's tabouleh and it was so good. Uncle Momo has been my family's default takeout restaurant for years. The fresh-made pita bread never disappoints, and goes so well with their hummus, but also their babaganoush. I love beets, so their puréed Moutabal Beets are my favorite dish, though only served as a small side. They have delicious meat and seafood entrees, but there are also excellent vegetarian items on their menu. Before COVID I was always perplexed that their dining room was rarely full. Perhaps because their cuisine doesn't fall into a familiar category. It's also a great place for brunch. If you haven't eaten there yet, I highly recommend their food. This place is an amazing hidden gem. I grew up in a Lebanese family where we cooked my grandmother's recipes. They are all on the menu at Uncle Momo's. Unassuming from the outside, the inside is decorated in French-Arabic decor and is very simple. We ordered all the vegetarian mezes, zatar pita, the falafel and tabbouleh. All were amazing. They don't start cooking anything until you order it. If you order pita, you can watch them grab some dough and roll it out and throw it in the oven. It comes straight to your table next, warm and delicious. We watched them roast a dozen split eggplants for babaganouh while we were there as well. We had nice service and a great expierence. We chose this place because there were tons of vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu which is true. The food was good, not great. What was weird was the way we felt treated by servers, one of them seemed to be to be the owner. Not a single smile to our group of five, no welcome, glad to see you, how are you tonight. They were both kind of gruff and we sort of felt like we were annoying them somehow. The place looked a little dirty as well. Fantastic. Simply fantastic. It's a Lebanese restaurant but has several Moroccan dishes as well. We ordered moujadara (green lentils and bulgur with fried onions) as an appetizer and had chicken and lamb tajine. The lamb was simply phenomenal, as was the chicken. Usually I'm not a fan of lamb but this literally fell off the bone and the sauce was heavenly. For dessert, the mint tea is essential with the baklava. Everything was great, however, I was expecting the Tunisian eggs to be bursting with spice and flavor but it didn't have any. This place is solid, overall. Small, intimate, home-like vibe, with delicious Middle-eastern & Mediterranean food. The lamb tajine dish was perfect. The meat fell right off the bone, perfectly. The carmalized onions, along with the prunes made this dish explode with flavor. The pita is puffed, fresh, & airy, I could of ate them all night. Also had the Beef Shawarma, delicious thin slices of rib eye layered on top of some basmati, and more of that puffy pita deliciousness along with it. LOVE Uncle Momo's! When we used to live in Montclair my boyfriend and I visited regularly, and it's still a spot we take family to and visit for special days. They're going for the European bistro feel, and they do have it -- but the food is what shines! The Lamb Mousaka is wonderful -- always very flavorful, well proportioned (size and ratio of lamb to eggplant to tomato), and it comes baked in a dish so it comes hot. Get the pitas (homemade, piping hot, flaky and oh so wonderful) and be sure to dip them in/eat with the mousaka! Next up is the Ouzi... which we usually get with lamb also -- what a unique and delicious dish! A fragrant, delicate rice dish in a flaky puff-pastry served with a wonderful yogurt sauce. Our third favorite is the lamb shank tajine. Again, amazing! Fragrant as well, but in a different way... My boyfriend is not usually one for fruit in his food, but the caramelized prunes and apricots, with the nuts and the fall-off-the-bone lamb are just a savory/sweet sticky flavorful matchup that even he can't say no to fruit in this one! And again, the pitas are a wonderful addition to this dish as well! We've never gotten their pitzas...but I have thought about it, as the pitas are just so wonderful! Had had several appetizers and we are always happy to experiment with those. This is one of those places that you go to and feel confident trying things because they really are that good... but then you just love your favorites entrees so much that, when you don't go that often, it's hard to get anything else :) As an aside, and I thought a little unexpected, but I suppose in line with the "French" part of the French-Lebanese establishment -- they do make a very good creme brûlée! A few notes -- and in line with the "European bistro" vibe -- they call themselves a slow-cooking establishment -- this is true (more for dinner, with the specialties). Be mindful of this. But the food is worth it. Also, getting the check tends to be SLOW. It's nice to not feel shoved out of the door, but when you're ready to go, be proactive. They've gotten better with this, but FYI. :) Finally, don't come here if your ravenous. Or, if you do, be prepared to order appropriately. Portions are not crazy -- but we really like that because you eat well, you enjoy, and your not stuffed! Not a "leftovers for tomorrow" place though! Finally, been here for brunch many times (that actually how we started coming, when we couldn't get into Toast -- I'll take Momo's any day), but we do prefer dinner. The lentil soup and falafel are both incredible. Just about every appetizer is vegan as well, so we had a full mezze plate during our first visit. The staff is so knowledgeable about the ingredients in every dish. They didn't even flinch when we asked them to walk through the vegan options. They even did a pitza for us without cheese. I have eaten here several times--the food is always absolutely delicious. Their fish, chicken, and lamb dishes in particular are fabulous--hearty portions and perfectly seasoned. For appetizers, the babagannouj and moujadara are great go-tos. For Entrees: moussaka with lamb, quzi, branzino, and lamb chops. Most dishes are served with basmati rice. It would have been 5 stars, but last time i was there to celebrate a birthday and received terrible service. We went on a slow night and had to ask for water, at which point we informed him that we were celebrating a birthday. The server did not care and continued to ignore us all night. We had to ask him to open our wine, for cups, cutlery, and inform him when we were ready for the check (he never came to the table without being flagged down).
