They offer a nice variety of Japanese cuisine from sushi to hibachi and tempura. In my opinion its the best sushi in our small town. Service is always prompt and friendly. Its a nice casual environment but also just fancy enough for a date night. If you are looking a great place to go with the family, a date or even a business get together. They have a nice selection of lunch specials which was perfect for our lunchtime visit. My husband enjoyed the Teriyaki Chicken bento lunch box and my Chirashi lunch box was a delicious assortment of fresh fish over rice. Ample portions even for lunch! I also ordered the seafood udon soup which was quite large, but the broth was bland. I wound up adding wasabi and soy sauce to punch up the flavor. I would have liked more udon in the soup. This place is my comfort spot. I'm on the road all week for work, and I'm more excited to eat here every weekend than I am for a day off. The prices are beyond reasonable, and the quality is top notch. I get the same thing almost every time and it's exactly the same. Everything tastes fresh, you can tell their meats are good quality, and everything is seasoned perfectly. While I usually order takeout, the ambiance in here is on point, the wait staff are all absolute angels, and from the counter tops at the bar, to the floor, to the bathroom sink, all absolutely spotless. read more

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in St. Augustine. It is located near my friends' home and they love how it is never crowded. They took me out here in the past. As many restaurants have raised their prices, Umai is no exception. However, they are more reasonably priced than the sushi restaurants in my hometown so I do not mind the 25 minute drive. I particularly like the lunch menu. Teriyaki Benito Box is a favorite as it is served with soup (clear or miso) and salad (ginger dressing) along with the teriyaki stir fry (choice of different meats or seafood), sumai, California roll and rice (white or fried). Umai has not extensive menu of sushi, hibachi, Katsu, tempura, and teriyaki dishes. The restaurant is a little dark but utilizes colorful lighting. read more

Poor service. Stood at the door for 5 minutes while the sushi chefs looked at us and the staff seemed to be absent. The restaurant was not slammed or crazy busy. Ordered drinks after a bit and my food was out before the drinks. Continued to wait in the drinks while the waitress waited on other tables and brought them their drinks. The miso soup I was given was lukewarm. We were finally given drinks for the party of 3. The waitress walked by several times disregarding the waiting dishes to be taken away and an empty drink. I asked on the third time if I had to order a new drink or how I got a refill. My friends were waiting on their food over 10 minutes after I got mine so the combination of that and the waitress. This was a poor experience and not sure if I would come back based on this service I experienced. Also spoke to 2 different people about the issue read more

Stay away. When we first walked in, there was the smell of stale oil. When ordering the Yaki udon with tofu, I told the server about my shellfish allergy. She came back to verify the order but to my surprise, she served me shrimp yaki udon instead of tofu. The spring rolls were mushy and overcooked. Too bad as they used to be pretty good. read more

COVID precautions in place. We ordered online and picked up at Umai. We were even able to say when we wanted to have our order ready. Food was ready when we arrived and soup was nice and hot. We come here a lot and it's one of my favorites in town. Their service is always super friendly and attentive. Their sushi is really good the angel roll is my favorite with Mango, tempura shrimp, spicy tuna and avocado inside with spicy crab on the top. We also get the various hibachis and they're always really good and they serve them with a boat of yum yum sauce so you never run out. If you're looking for good hibachi and sushi, but maybe not feeling the entire hibachi experience with the grill tables this is one of the best places! read more
