I saw the middling overall score but noticed the Elite scores were higher so decided to go for some bento. Staff was super friendly. I assume it was the owner. Place has the hibachi tables up front and tables/booths in the back. Overall decent decor. First surprise was that it's really a Japanese/Chinese/Thai restuarant. They've got a pretty solid Chinese menu with all the standards on it. And then a bunch of Thai curries. For Japanese it has your bento, hibachi, tempora, teriyaki, udon, etc. So you've basically got all your bases covered! I started with hot and sour soup and it was dang good! Chock full of ingredients and decent spice. For lunch, I went with shrimp in lobster sauce with fried rice. It was exactly what I wanted. Very happy. Wife got a fried tofu appetizer which was HUGE and then some nice salmon. All very good. Daughter got green curry and it was fine but nothing great. Overall, very very impressed especially for the price. Not gourmet or upscale but I thought it was perfect for takeout/sit down type of place. read more

We went to see the night of lights in St Aug. and stopped here on the way. It was very quiet and somewhere you wouldn't usually stop seeing from the sign. It was clean inside, the house sake tasted freshly heated. The ramen it wasn't their strong suit... that's mostly our fault ordering something at a steakhouse. I went in for a late lunch after arriving in St Augustine and it was pouring rain. The restaurant was quiet, I was seated right away, I am camping at Anastasia State Park and got soaked unloading my camp gear and the waitress suggested hot soup because I was cold. The miso soup was hot and delicious. I then got the lunch bento box. 2 shumai, a California roll with REAL crab meat! Broccoli w shrimp. The box also had white rice. The sauce on the broccoli shrimp was AMAZING. Beautiful Chinese 5 spice flavor and they also removed the shrimp tails, which many restaurants don't do. I appreciated that. read more

We were in St Augustine for night of lights and stopped in for dinner. They were quick to take order and deliver it but that's where the service stopped no refills on drinks etc. the restaurant was well payed out with booths and tables. The food was not notable enough to warrant coming back. My daughter ordered Udon and compared it to an instant meal from Costco. Sadly my husband felt his Chicken Broccoli was just so so and my California Crunch roll had decent flavor it wasn't well built and fell completely apart so ate it with a fork instead of chopsticks. read more

I used Uber Eats to send Christmas Eve dinner to my family in Saint Augustine. I ordered the $55 lobster hibachi, which, as my sister said, "was served in the shell of the tail in pieces. It had no sauce or butter." I also ordered for them the Boston roll, California Crunch and teriyaki salmon with additional white rice, which she says were fine. I'm disappointed in her assessment of the lobster hibachi, which was supposed to be the star of the meal. I guess ordering from a distance has its drawbacks. read more

I went hear with family while we were visiting St. Augustine and were pleasantly surprised! We came here on a Saturday night and were a bit skeptical due to no cars being there but we decided to come because we were hungry walking in restaurant it looked nice and clean and there was oriental music playing in the background which added to the experience, we asked for a hibachi table and were given our soups and drinks relatively quickly, our hostess/ waitress was very nice and we had no complaints towards her. The whole "show" was very fun, in the beginning the chef made a giant fire to clean the grill which was very cool and he was always open to questions and told us the ingredients he was using. Now the food, all of ordered the hibachi steak and chicken and it was priced very well for the amount of food you get, it comes with fried rice which is delicious and you get around 2 big spatulas of this yummy rice and some extra if the chef made extra, the steak was very good and so was the chicken we also ordered the tuna sushi which was very fresh and delicious read more

Wandered here since it was close to the hotel after a long day of exploring historic St Augustine. I had Yelp up and there was a place with more stars a little further down the street, but I was overruled by the weary wife. I was hesitant to venture in since the exterior looked like it could be a closed business...but I wisely kept my mouth shut. Inside, it's an eclectic mish-mash of traditional Japanese decor and someone's odd collection of ideas of what would make this place more interesting. We're talking about some circular lighting contraptions with "clouds" on them and some LED lights that blink different colors (if they work). To me, it looked like some sort of UFO on the ceiling. All around the restaurant there was some sort of flashing LED strip lighting too. The sushi bar was so lit up that it made the sushi chef look like a DJ behind the bar. The whole thing made me wonder if there was a rave scheduled for later. On to the food now. We decided to order individual soups and share a sushi roll. Now, I have a go-to place back home that has killer egg drop soup and this was nowhere close to that. If you've never had egg drop soup, don't make this one your first experience. If you enjoy other egg drops...skip this one. Very bland and watery to the point that the egg drops kinda grossed me out when I got some of that slimy texture. I grudgingly ate about 2/3rds of it and set it aside with crossed fingers that the sushi would be better. Well, the Titanic sushi roll was a beauty to behold and the LED lights were now shining down on us in all their glory. It was a good-sized roll, smelled fresh, and tasted good. It wasn't the best roll I'd ever had, but you kinda need to order more than one to figure out what "your roll" is at some of these places. In the end, it was pretty average and we didn't hate ourselves afterwards. Their menu looks to be pretty varied in Asian cuisine to meet touristy needs. If you're at the Doubletree, it's right next door so it's super convenient. read more

While on vacation in St Augustine we decided to go out for sushi. So we go to Sakada, my sushi was good, the Pad Thai was not very good, tasted like noodles w/ tomato sauce. Our water had what we bugs, literal bugs. they offered us bottled water and we asked if we would be charged for the water to which they said yes. Personally if the water is dirty i'd imagine we would be offered clean water free of charge? The owner/manager proceeded to ignore us and then give us attitude and even argued with one of us until we felt so unwelcome that we asked for boxes, the bill, and left without touching our food. This was our first time here and when we arrived there were no other customers here, which surprised us because the restaurant had 4 stars on Google. I have to say the presentation of the sushi is absolutely gorgeous, but the taste of the food left much to be desired. I ordered the chicken pad thai, a dish I've had in many other restaurants, and it tasted unlike any pad thai I've had before. It was pink instead of brown, and instead of having a sweet peanut sauce taste, it tasted more like adobo. Other than it having peanuts as a garnish I would have never guessed this was pad thai. The Thai ice tea also tasted unsual, like cotton candy instead of Thai tea. The fried rice tasted much like the pad thai, like it was heavily seasoned with adobo. I wouldn't say the food was bad per se, but I didn't like it because it wasn't as expected given what we ordered. The sushi is the only thing I would recommend, but I don't think I'd ever come back. Overall, I came here initially because of its convenience to where I was staying in St. Augustine but free to enjoy it. The staff is super friendly and competent - they stay on the ball with your orders and drinks. You never have to wait on them to bring more water, get your check back, or really even check on your food. I took my family from Los Angeles (center of the Western sushi universe) to this place and they were surprisingly happy with the food. The sushi was pretty decent and their rolls were very good. The prices are a bit higher on the weekends without the specials. The only gripe I have is that they do not offer their lunch menu on the weekends. No bento box specials. :( I know it's written in small print M-F, but maybe omitting the daily lunch specials on a special weekend menu would be helpful and less frustrating. The shrimp tempura udon was delicious as well as my eel roll & spicy tuna roll. The service was pretty quick and curt. The restaurant had nice ambiance and is located right off of San Marco Ave where the traffic can be a little hectic depending on the time you go. Overall, a solid place for Japanese food so I would definitely come back. Any dish with the shrimp tempura is a real treat and again, the udon is delish.
