Absolutely unacceptable experience at Sushi 99 in St. Augustine, FL. As a DoorDash driver trying to make extra money, I waited over an hour for an order while watching other Dashers and Uber Eats drivers--who arrived after me--receive their food first. There was no explanation, no accountability, just blatant favoritism. To make matters worse, the owner was rude and hostile, yelling at me for supposedly arriving "too early," even though I had already been waiting 15 minutes at that point. That is not how you treat delivery drivers, who are an extension of your business and represent your restaurant to customers. The operation felt disorganized and unprofessional, and the branding felt misleading compared to the actual experience. Whether you're a customer or a delivery driver, expect long waits, poor communication, and disrespect. I will not be picking up orders from here again, and I strongly caution others in St. Augustine, FL to do the same. Ambiance not Japanese. read more

We all were really hungry and thirsty. Ordered our iced tea w extra lemon. Very good! Started w miso soup. Delicious. My DC ordered soft-shell deep fried crab. Also good. He also ordered sashimi appetizer. Asked about fresh wasabi, but they didn't have it. Hey staff, please look into having it. We Avocado salad. Came w ginger dressing. We liked it. I was very excited to try this place, and to date I've ordered take out twice and dined in once, all for lunch. The interior is gorgeous, very pleasant atmosphere. The booths are large and comfortable. The server was very helpful. This is located in a strip mall, so there is plenty of parking. We have a lot of sushi places around, so for me this is what determines my final score. My go to is spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls, and that is what I ordered from their reasonable lunch menu. Both were good. Not great, definitely not spicy enough, but very fresh. The second time I ordered takeout, there was a bone in my sushi roll. I've never encountered that before at any sushi restaurant I've eaten from, but it wasn't a big deal. When we dined in, we tried the beef Negimaki for an appetizer. It was okay, but again, not exceptional. A little bland, a little dry, but somewhat tasty. The miso soup was also okay, but could have used a little more flavor. The presentation of the sushi is absolutely gorgeous! I loved the display on the plate. Super cool. Overall, I will go back here again but I can't rave about the sushi rolls I tried so far. I might sample something else from the menu to widen my scope, such as hibachi or teriyaki, or a specialty roll, and update my review accordingly. They do have a very nice range of options, and I believe a dinner is in our future soon! read more

They were extremely accommodating for our large group of 13 and I felt like their service was faster than I would have expected for the amount of food they served us. Rolls were good and I think everyone enjoyed their meals. I got the dynamite roll and a side of chicken noodles. Loved the roll, the noodles were meh. The presentation alone was worth the visit. It was a cool effect having the little dry ice cups. Some plates came out with fans and bonsai trees- a fun experience. Wish I had taken more pictures. read more

We have eaten here before. It was never real good, just ok. We ate there in the pm hours Feb 14. I ordered chicken teriyaki. About 7 hours later in the early am the next day I was awoken by cold sweat, severe intestinal discomfort and other symptoms of accute food poisoning. Shortly after the projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea began, this went on for hours. I was down for three days because of this. This place could have killed me. Think twice before you eat there. See the attached, they have been cited with seroius violations, including how they store the chicken and basic cleanliness issues. Sushi 99 is one of the best Sushi restaurants in St. Johns County. The sushi lunch special is a tremendous value, the fish is fresh, and the service is excellent. Everyone in the restaurant is very friendly, and they offer a convenient online order system. Most of my orders are pickup but I have eaten there in person once so far and the make your own Poke bowls are just as good as the rolls. I look forward to trying other items on the menu, as so far, I haven't ordered a bad dish! read more
