Sundeep I.

Tried udupi buffet on Sunday. Honestly not many tables were filled. It's all vegetarian food with limited choices compared to other restaurants. But food was pretty decent for whatever the choices they offered. Their punugulu, pongal, puri, naan, paneer curries and vermicelli desserts were good. Rest are just ok. Dosas are included that are made fresh but unfortunately they didn't taste good although looked perfect. Could be just a wrong batch. Service is fine no issues. But ambiance need to be improved. Lacks liveliness. Priced at $13.99 for a buffet, it's not bad at all but could improve a bit more.

Kurma

We were in the mood for some Indian Food and this place didn't disappoint. I ordered the Kurma and a garlic naan. The main dish was spiced to perfection, nice kick, mature flavor, good consistency. The garlic naan was phenomenal, ended up ordering another batch because I could not put it down. We did dine-in and the service was good. There were a number of very hostile delivery app drivers during our visit which was not cool, I don't blame the restaurant at all! This isn't fast food, quality takes time. Very much a hole in the wall and that's the vibe. We will be back!

This place is definitely a hole in the wall. You've got an extremely dirty exterior, the interior also has broken chairs, unused large appliances, and a bunch of cleaning supplies on one of the tables. Also note that that their prices on their official website are incorrect. Their actual prices are way more expensive when you actually go to the store. Note that they have a buffet but we have no idea when it happens as it's not mentioned on their website nor their in-store menu. Their menu is some hastily written basic Excel table of items that have no pictures. Most of their bigger stuff costs $15 so I got a coconut rice dish while my crony ordered some curry and a naan. Our whole order came out to $47 (includes tax and tip). The food itself is plentiful and of slightly above average quality.

Worst Buffet

Serious health concern. Their items in the buffet are spoiled. The potato was smelling bad, the chutney was bad, dosa was sour as if batter was like 2 weeks old. Look at the coffee color, 97% milk with 2 drops of coffee semi warm. This is the 3rd time I complained them about the spoiled food. This place should be banned by food regulators. (...and this would be my last visit here) P.S: "urban district" offers amazing buffet fresh made 25+ items for just 16$ I did not want to , but you ll be served. Watch out .

We came for the buffet on Saturday and the food was quite good. Some things I think could be improved: - label the food. We weren't sure what the buffet items were and I hate to waste by taking something I won't like. Four items were labeled but no others were. - food delivery - we learned that a dosa comes with the buffet but it arrived at our table after we had finished eating. - ambiance - there is none at all - it's a large room with tables. Would I come back? Probably yes because I really do enjoy this food.

I live very close to Udupi and this place has been on my list to try for a while. We hoped to go for the lunch buffet so we went during the lunch hours. Unfortunately they didn't have the buffet when we went. Overall, there are some really great flavors going on and if you're vegetarian or vegan this is a definite must try. Pros: - large enough portions to share - fantastic flavors - food was prepared quickly and freshly - we read online that the Chili Gobi dish is a good choice so we ordered that. Indeed it was! The cauliflower in that dish came out with a nice crunchy texture and was spicy yet slight sweetness of the sauce. - samosas were solid - garlic paratha is like naan but not as fluffy/thick. More like a cross between naan & tortilla. It was filled with a lot of garlic and that's a major plus for me. - coconut rice is just as it sounds, very coconut-y. Cons: - lunch buffet is only Friday, Saturday, & Sunday so plan accordingly. - we spent a good amount of time looking over the menu since there are a lot of choices. When we placed our order the waitress told us 2 out of 3 things we wanted to get were not available. This was not a problem but it would be good to tell us when we arrived if they can't make certain dishes.

Vegetable Vindaloo Vegan

I was in Scottsdale hanging out with friends and craving Indian & 1 of them recommended Udupi Restaurant which was 10 minutes away. I placed an order online & drove over to pick it up. Vegetable samosas - which I didn't get & I'm super pissed. Instead I got something that looks like chickpeas with tomatoes and onions. It was bland & I'm super pissed about my damn samosas Chilli gobi Cauliflower with sautéed with garlic, ginger chili and soy sauce. This is probably my favorite appetizer to get from Indian restaurants & it was definitely underwhelming. I've definitely had better. Vegetable vindaloo Chickpeas and mixed vegetables in a silky curry sauce. It was ok I've definitely had better. I'm definitely never taking food advice from this friend again. $35 plus tip wasted. smh With my order screwed up & subpar food I definitely won't be back.

I was invited by my Indian friend to join her for brunch at Udupi. I was looking forward to it all week. Thirty minutes before brunch time, a bomb was dropped- Udupi is a vegetarian restaurant! I considered cancelling, and going to Fogo de Chao instead, but I am a team player and decided to give a try. On Sundays there is a buffet. To my surprise, I genuinely enjoyed many of the dishes. I did not have a favorite food but I had a favorite desert (the one with the carrots, loaded with sugar). Everything I tried had lots of flavour, but I will admit I was disappointed that Udupi is vegan, as I was dreaming of goat stew all night.

We got two hummus garlic naan, 1 samosa meat, 1 tikka chicken masa, 1 tandoori chicken, 1 dal makhani, rice and spicy pickles in addition to 2 drinks. The margarita was coconut based and very different than a traditional option. The Dahl was not the best--I've had better but the rest was good. I would opt out of getting spicy pickles (it's more pickled vegetables and overpriced at $5 for a side). We didn't like them and honestly are used to getting that free as part of the sides/chutneys. The naan was delicious and we mostly enjoyed everything but would switch out the Dahl next time.

The menu continues to offer some of those dishes. The hubby said he was going to order something different. However he went back to the true and tried; Chana masala, garbanzo beans with onions in a spicy tomato sauce. I ordered from the Mediterranean menu with a chicken shawarma in a pita with French fries. Staff brought us waters and the freshly cooked dishes. The Chana masala comes with yellow rice and naan bread. The wrap comes with fries, ketchup and tzatziki sauce. Nice presentation. I was somewhat disappointed with the wrap. The chicken was a bit dry. The tzatziki sauce did help. I know for our next visit to order the Indian dishes. The Chana masala sauce was fairly spicy; maybe 3 out of 5 stars hotness. Thankfully there's lots of rice with naan to cool your mouth. It seemed like a different cook was working behind the scene. Maybe a new and different meal for next time for both of us. The menu is a bit strange to me -- part Indian food, part Mediterranean like gyros. I ordered a samosa smash which is their name for samosa chaat and unfortunately I really didn't care for it. It was drowning in sauces and no crunchy bits, and quite sweet. They do have beer, wine and cocktails but no cocktail menu, which seems a missed opportunity. The server was nice, but he forgot the naan and gave us no plates to eat from - which ended up being small paper-based bowls and (unwrapped) plastic cutlery (fork or spoon) from an open container (which honestly, I can't stand either). The food took forever to come out, and while we were grateful, it was overall bland in its flavor. We have been here before several times and it was generally good - but I think this poor guy was run off his feet trying to get delivery/UberEats/DoorDash orders out and we got left behind. We ate (did not finish it all, so packed a little takeaway box) and left. Would go back again eventually, but probably not for a little while.. Let me start with the cocktails which were probably the highlight of the evening and the reason this place got a 4 instead of a 3. I loved that the drinks were ordered from least sweet to sweetest. Everyone enjoyed their drinks. My friends ordered Gulabo (loved the cube) and Kaali. I ordered Nutkhat rum drink which had an excellent coconut foam. My friend with Kaali switched to Nutkhat. My only comment here is give a table more than one drink menu. It took forever to order while we had to share the menu. For dinner, we ordered the chefs tasting menu but also started with an appetizer of hamachi tartare. The hamachi was completely underwhelming and flavorless. I do not recommend ordering. The first appetizer course on the tasting menu was excellent. The soup was delightful and the crispy Chana chaat was so good. We were also brought some kind of nut crisp with a yogurt sauce which was excellent. This was the best part of the dinner Next up was the lamb and chicken tamarind. The char on both was very good but unfortunately both were very dry and this was served with no sauce. Didn't really get to enjoy it bc of the lack of sauce. For the main dish we were served coastal prawn curry and butter chicken. It came with lentils (the best part of the dish - very good). The curry broth was good. The shrimp were overcooked. The butter chicken was moist and fine (it's just not my favorite dish but if you like it, it would be good). Food was also constantly served cold. I would say overall slightly above average here. Three deserts were served and all quite enjoyable. The outdoor patio was nice and private. One of the biggest issues we had with our meal was that we were completely rushed through every course. The waitress was nice but did she have somewhere to go? Was it the kitchen? I'm not sure. It wasn't a need for table space. Literally they asked to clear our plates while we were eating. At one point my friend was asked to choke down her appetizer so they could take the plate. Were they out of plates? I was asked to clear my dinner while I was literally chewing and eating. They dropped the bill during deserts and literally came back to ask us to pay when we had only taken one bite of desert. This was extremely stressful. I don't know how many times one of us had to say "we are still eating". We were never allowed to enjoy our course and just relax before the next course. I was so stressed about them asking about the bill that that we couldn't even finish desserts. We decided to just leave. This was a problem so I suggest teaching either the staff or kitchen about the pacing. We dropped over $500 for three people and for that price, please let me enjoy my meal.
