Normally I am skeptical of anything with 5 stars, but less so when they have over a thousand reviews or so. The Dhaba does not disappoint either, and deserve every five star review they get. Mental note to self, go down a level in heat to a 2 when ordering because they do it spicy! Their garlic naan was awesome, and the Chicken Tikka Masala was wonderful. The portion size was just right. The true winner however was the Tandoori chicken. We did a half order of it, and decided next time we would do a full order and an order of the Butter chicken to split. The waiters and owners were very attentive, and it was a pleasant atmosphere on the inside. Parking is a bit tight out front but there is plenty of parking out back. read more

I have given multiple 5 star reviews to the Dhaba, but our experience on Easter was not good. We arrived at opening time and were seated immediately. We were the only ones there. Our server was probably one of the worst servers I have ever had. Zero personality and literally never said one word to us. Several to go orders and Uber Eats people came in and out while we waited about 10 minutes. We finally told the man at the front desk that we needed to order and get some drinks. Server came over with his notepad and looked at us to take orders, didn't say a word. When he brought the dishes, a few minutes later, he literally plopped all of them in one spot in the table without making any attempt to remember which dish went to which person. Very odd behavior The dishes on the menu are clearly marked vegetarian, vegan or contains meat. We had two dishes that were supposed to be vegan, one was a saag dish which they had placed butter over the top of. It looked delicious to everyone, but the vegans who could not eat it. When we pointed it out, they made no attempt to offer us another dish and just said oh yes, that's ghee (clarified butter) we said the menu indicated it was vegan, but again no response. The two vegans at our table just decided rather than argue, they will share the rice dish, which was also indicated as vegan. As they started to eat it, they realized there were several pieces of paneer in it. I really hope this was a one off because this was one of my favorite places to eat Indian food. We've eaten here several times but I kept forgetting to review them. After several visits I'll say that their food is one of our favorite Indian restaurants to frequent. The smell alone does you in, service was attentive and everything was absolutely an overall wonderful experience. We've left AZ but when we visit again this is one of the places we'd definitely return to again & again. I think we took several out of town guests here and everyone loved it very much. read more

I frequently tell acquaintances about The Dhaba, as this is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever tried. I tell them all the same thing: the first time I ate here, I was nearly moved to tears. That's no exaggeration! Perhaps I'm deeply biased, but I swear I can taste the love in their dishes. The restaurant building itself is a little old and worn, but the atmosphere inside is cozy and tasteful. Each table has a white tablecloth, dinnerware placed, and red cloth napkins. The details help elevate the vibe. They've done well with what they have. The service is always top notch. The staff is attentive to their customers' needs, while being genuine and kind. I haven't tested this theory, but based on the way they approach their patrons with such care, I think they would accommodate just about any request! They keep an eye on beverages, get dishes out quickly, and greet everyone with warmth and a smile. I have tried many Indian dishes. Though it is often regarded as less authentic Indian, I will ALWAYS order their kashmiri chicken tikka. This dish is so flavorful and creamy. It's like butter chicken, but better. I don't know what their secret is, but I love it. I also order two servings of garlic naan so I have lots left to take home. This visit, I enjoyed a couple apps, which are pictured. The samosa plate comes with two samosas, which are large (nearly the size of my fist). They are filled with a potato and vegetable mixture, which is deliciously seasoned and accompanied by a lovely sauce with chick peas. I also ordered the paneer pakore. Paneer is a lovely and popular cheese, which is used in many dishes as an alternative to meat. This paneer was fried, though, like an Indian mozzarella stick. The batter is seasoned with Indian spices, giving it a unique flavor. A great thing about The Dhaba's menu is that each item has a wine pairing suggestion to elevate the experience even more. I am committed to trying so much more of what this restaurant has to offer. If you love Indian or your considering branching out and trying it for the first time, this is your new spot. I love the food here but I'm disappointed to share my recent experience. I placed an order online recently and my experience was horrible. We had a 45 minute wait after the order was placed. I went to the restaurant at that time. When I told him I was there to pickup, he told me to move aside and helped the guests who were walking in for a table (totally fine). I was being patient and understanding. But he proceeded to be very dismissive and rude to me. He told me it would be another 30 minutes. When I came back to pick up the order, 30 minutes later, I brought my husband. It was interesting to see how kind and respectful he was towards him from the moment he walked in the door. Very disappointing and disrespectful experience. There was a misunderstanding with one of the items we ordered after I asked multiple times before ordering. When the food arrived and it was not what I understood it would be, I explained the issue, but the manager was extremely rude and refused to help. He said the item would not be removed from the bill, even though we didn't eat it . The situation got worse when he brought the bill before we were even done and later threatened to call the police. After we paid, my husband came to speak with him, and the manager changed his story. When I explained what actually happened, he called me a liar in front of other customers. He then claimed he had videos but refused to show them unless we called the police. He eventually called the police and claimed we were fighting and had not paid, even though we had already paid the bill !!!!!. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. The issue was not only the food, but the manager's disrespectful behavior, threats, and the way he humiliated a customer publicly. I do not recommend this place. read more

Stopped by last week for the first time in a while and it was just as great as I remember! The restaurant was really busy when we went, but the staff was still very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Maharaja Patiala Tandoori Thali with lamb. The lamb curry was rich and spicy, and came with slices of naan, a helping of biryani topped with tandoori chicken, buttery and well spiced daal, raita, and a desert. I love this menu item, it's huge and comes with a little bit of everything, which makes it perfect for those like me who struggle to just choose one dish. I tried the chicken tikka, and it was phenomenal -- tender, flavorful, and perfectly charred with that smoky tandoori goodness. I've ordered from this restaurant over the phone several times without any issues, but today's experience was extremely disappointing. When we arrived to pick up our order, the food was not ready. Instead of helping resolve the issue, the attendant immediately had an attitude and insisted that we must have called the wrong number, rather than trying to understand or assist. There was no effort to be accommodating or solution-oriented. After some back and forth, he offered to remake the order--but we had to wait again and still pay, despite the inconvenience. we were also told not to order over the phone again. If that's the case, then the restaurant shouldn't be accepting phone orders in the first place. This was especially frustrating because we ordered ahead specifically so the food would be ready in time for us to break our fast. Instead, it caused an unnecessary delay to what should have been a family meal. Really disappointing experience and poor customer service. Don't think I'll be visiting anytime soon. read more

What an absolute downfall for a place that used to be one of our family favorites. Every time we've visited Phoenix from Chicago, The Dhaba was a must. After this experience with our group of 11, including 3 kids, that tradition ends here. The Dhaba has always served complimentary papad to start, until now. When it didn't arrive, we politely asked. The waiter nodded, said it was "coming," and walked away. Ten minutes later, still nothing. We asked again.. same story. Finally, I went to the counter myself, only to be curtly told they "don't serve papad until after the food order is placed." Really? That's never been their policy. And if it is now, a simple explanation would have sufficed. Instead, we got brushed off repeatedly while other tables (all non-Indians) were being served papad right in front of us. That was the final straw. What used to be a warm, family-friendly restaurant now feels rude, dismissive, and frankly discriminatory. We left, and we're glad we did. No food is worth being treated with such arrogance and double standards. The Dhaba hasn't just lost our business; it's lost our respect. Thankfully, this bitter experience led us to try a new place in Gilbert.Tap & Tikka where we had a wonderful meal full of fresh flavors and genuinely warm service. Outstanding food and overall experience. It's a busy spot but we were seated for two fairly quickly. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is nicely laid out with nice decor. They could certainly improve the rear area of the restaurant but it didn't take away from our experience. The food was amazing. The Palak Paneer was my fave of the night!!
