    Huge Baturas
    Ajali S.

Went at the opening hour on a Saturday morning and the place was already jam packed with a queue forming outside. The place is small and gets very busy so consider a take away. Placing the order was quick and efficient. Took us about 15 to 20 minutes to get our food Hands down the best chole bature I have eaten in this country. The papdi chat was absolute heaven , all washed down with the delectable mango lassi. We went back the next Saturday and got their specials , matter paneer, naan and mutton curry. Everything exceeds expectations. I just love the home cooked flavors uncorrupted as yet by an intent to make profit. I haven't tried their catering yet but that is absolutely on the cards based on the very positive experience.

We absolutely love and adore this place for the wide variety of North Indian specialties especially Punjabi dishes and home cooked flavors. We have been visiting AJA for catering orders and dine in for years now! Pls do not judge the place by its location and decor/ambiance. The quality, price and portion of the food will over compensate. The owner runs this place with his family. They are closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Weekends get ready to be slammed. It's busy and chaotic! Our favorites here are Parathas Choley Bhaturey and Mutton Curry! Weekends sometimes you can find specials like Bread Pakodey, Jalebi, Special Mithais, Curry's, Biryani etc., The food is prepared fresh, served hot with lots of love and admiration for loyal and new customers! You know the spot is a gem when every other customer is a Desi! Paji, thank you for serving authentic Punjabi food to Arizonians! Finally you made it to Yelp.

Amazing home style North Indian food and parathas available for dine in and take out. They do catering aswell. Quantity is generous and food is top notch. Definitely returning. Priced reasonably too.

Awesome Indian food, good for catering but will love the authentic Indian cuisine. Their menu keeps changing I think twice every week, so watch out for the specials. Home style food at its best. Although locality might seem little odd but don't let that stop you from trying this restaurant out! Cozy homely environment.

Our server was probably one of the worst servers I have ever had. Zero personality and literally never said one word to us. Several to go orders and Uber Eats people came in and out while we waited about 10 minutes. We finally told the man at the front desk that we needed to order and get some drinks. Server came over with his notepad and looked at us to take orders, didn't say a word. When he brought the dishes, a few minutes later, he literally plopped all of them in one spot in the table without making any attempt to remember which dish went to which person. Very odd behavior The dishes on the menu are clearly marked vegetarian, vegan or contains meat. We had two dishes that were supposed to be vegan, one was a saag dish which they had placed butter over the top of. It looked delicious to everyone, but the vegans who could not eat it. When we pointed it out, they made no attempt to offer us another dish and just said oh yes, that's ghee (clarified butter) we said the menu indicated it was vegan, but again no response. The two vegans at our table just decided rather than argue, they will share the rice dish, which was also indicated as vegan. As they started to eat it, they realized there were several pieces of paneer in it. I really hope this was a one off because this was one of my favorite places to eat Indian food. Very very disappointing and no accommodation for the inedible dishes.

The Dhaba does not disappoint either, and deserve every five star review they get. Mental note to self, go down a level in heat to a 2 when ordering because they do it spicy! Their garlic naan was awesome, and the Chicken Tikka Masala was wonderful. The portion size was just right. The true winner however was the Tandoori chicken. We did a half order of it, and decided next time we would do a full order and an order of the Butter chicken to split. The waiters and owners were very attentive, and it was a pleasant atmosphere on the inside. Parking is a bit tight out front but there is plenty of parking out back.

We were very surprised we were the only ones dining but we were extremely well looked after and welcomed. This is a family run business and you can tell. The owners are very proud of the heritage and their cuisine. We let our server (Mrs Owner) choose our dishes and we loved every one of them. The restaurant is a large space which is tiled and glass, so could get noisy if the room was full of people but somehow I don't think that will be too much of an issue. This review is 2months after we are there so I can't remember exactly what we had, but it WAS good. We always support local family restaurants in Tempe. This and Thirukuppusamy's in Chandler are the only two. If you are from North Phoenix or West Valley, this is the closet place to get a MEAN dosa. All of the South Indian food is great here. If you come here and expect a good Butter Chicken, lol. Order South Indian food and you won't be disappointed. The food at Chennai Cafe is salty, spicey, and tangy. It's got a good mix of all the flavors that remind me of home. I specifically get the Thali meals. These meals have a bit of every curry that is made that day. Usually split between 2 veg curries, 2 nonveg curries, rice, naan (roti), yogurt, and a dessert. All the curries were excellent. I couldn't eat the entire thali as the quantity of food will put you to sleep, so I ate all the meat stuff with the rice and bread and took all the vegetarian/dessert stuff home. Service is typical Indian restaurant, bunch of dudes standing around. You'll have to flag them down anytime you want something. Don't be shy to do so! That's how you do it at an Indian restaurant. Ambiance is typical no-frills Indian restaurant. Don't expect white glove treatment here. Small dining room area with chairs pretty close to each other. However, know what you are going to order and it'll come out fresh and spicy. Definitely an all time favorite for me in the Valley.

There is quite a selection including several types of indian drinks on the buffet. During our meal we were each asked if we wanted a dosa and we replied "heck ya!" There were two choices and I got the one with potato inside. Sorry, I wasn't sure what the other choice was. The only thing that wasn't as appetizing was that we had to use paper plates on the buffet. We saw some of the other diners had real plates so I am not sure if they either ordered from the menu (which is an option) or if the restaurant just ran out of clean plates. This is definitely not something that affected my review and desire to return. We will definitely be back!

Takeout needed and this place has always caught my eye. They share a parking lot with Sprouts so I've been wanting to stop in. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala ($19.99) and the Khatti Dal ($10.99) for takeout. First of all, that chicken tikka masala was fire. It was aromatic, fragrant, and the spice level was perfect. The khatti dal on the other hand, it wasn't for me. Not to say it was bad, I just didn't quite care for it. Since it was a takeout order, I can't comment too much about the service but this place is massive. Plenty of seating, lots of parking, and great food. I would definitely order from here again.

Not Recommended: food just OK, inconsistent service, and cleanliness concerns…read more We'd driven by this restaurant several times and finally decided to give it a try. Before going, we checked Yelp and were encouraged by its 4.0-star rating. Food Three of us ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, Butter Chicken, and Garlic Naan. Unfortunately, even though we arrived right at opening, they were already out of both of their popular biryanis. The garlic naan was decent but nothing memorable. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken were both flavorful with a nice spice level. The Chicken Vindaloo was another story. While the sauce was good, the chicken itself tasted "off"--not spoiled, but old enough that I chose not to finish it. Cleanliness After our meal, I noticed that the restaurant had received five violations on its most recent county health inspection, conducted about a month ago. While I can't say whether that had anything to do with the chicken, it certainly didn't inspire confidence. The restroom was even more concerning. The sinks and toilets were dirty, both towel dispensers were empty, and the odor suggested it hadn't been cleaned recently. A neglected restroom doesn't leave a good impression about the overall operation. Service On the positive side, the owner/chef was friendly and happy to chat with us. Unfortunately, the rest of the service was disappointing. We spent about 2 1/2 hours there despite being the only dine-in customers, although there were several DoorDash pickups. Our server rarely smiled or engaged with us, spoke so quietly that we often had to ask her to repeat herself, never offered to refill our water glasses, and initially brought a single check after we'd requested two separate checks. She corrected it after we pointed out the mistake. Atmosphere The dining room is attractively decorated and has a pleasant ambiance. Value Prices were reasonable for the portion sizes. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo were each $15.99, and the Garlic Naan was $3.99. Overall Unfortunately, the cleanliness issues, slow and inattentive service, and disappointing Vindaloo outweighed the positives. With so many good Indian restaurants in the area, I can't recommend Passage to India and won't be returning.
