    Bar and dining area.
    Tim S.

Came here about 2 weeks ago to give this place a try as it had only been open for 5 days at the time. This family-run restaurant has just reopened after moving location after a recent building fire. The new location is very large (it's in the iconic Vine Tavern & Eatery building now). We arrived around 5:30pm and were the first diners there, which was fine with us. We were seated immediately and given just enough time to look at the menu quickly before they came to take our order - we needed a bit longer as the menu is a decent size, offering many options/choices. We ordered a round of drinks (they have a full bar) and waited what seemed some time before our beers arrived. Once delivered, tour server wanted to take our order. Felt a little rushed to order (considering we were the only ones there) however we went along and put in our order for shared plates. We decided on the veggie samosa for an appetizer and then ordered our main meals - chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, shrimp fried rice and a garlic naan. Overall, the food was great - we asked what their spice levels were rated (1-10). so we chose 5 as a medium starting point. We ended up asking for some chili oil to add some extra but the medium was a good heat - sort of sneaks up on you a little. Regardless, it was a tasty meal. The server offered us a dessert at no cost, as one of the meals did not come out until we had to ask for it - an easy miss when a restaurant is quiet and has a number of little customers in-house! We were grateful and it was tasty. Prices are good considering its in the heart of Tempe/ASU, so great for students who may like to dine here with their wallet intact and enjoy Indian food. As we were leaving around 2hrs later (yeah, we took our time at dinner and enjoyed a few coldies), a few other dining parties were shoing up for dinner.. Nice to see some incoming patronage for them as it was a Tuesday night. Will be back again..

It's baaaack! Delhi Palace is open at the Old Vine. We got to be the first customers and they were so happy and welcoming. The new spot looks great! Fancy marble floors, a banquet/party room, a beautiful buffet area, and all so clean. I forgot to take photos of the menu but its mostly the same as the old, although they aren't doing the thali plates. They brought out sesame papadums and chutneys-- the green one was my favorite but I prefer spicy over sweet. I got a mango lassi which was delicious of course. We also had veggie samosas which were great with that green chutney! I ordered the chili chicken mistakenly thinking it was something else. It was too sweet for me but definitely made nicely. In talking with Gary, he understood what it was I meant to order which isn't on the menu but said he could make it for me next time, so I'm excited about that! The menu has a lot of variety and I love that they have small dessert portions - including gulab jamun of course. All of the people were so nice and so excited to be reopening. I'm so happy for them and look forward to coming back!

    All sorts yummy flavors!

The return of Delhi P in Tempe! It's back and better than ever. Food was great, got the chicken tikka masala, goat curry and chicken saag. Everything was super flavorful and the naan was super soft and fresh. They even added a nice banquet area! Overall, happy it's back!

Amazing service and food in a freshly renovated space. My new go to spot for Indian food.

The Dhaba does not disappoint either, and deserve every five star review they get. Mental note to self, go down a level in heat to a 2 when ordering because they do it spicy! Their garlic naan was awesome, and the Chicken Tikka Masala was wonderful. The portion size was just right. The true winner however was the Tandoori chicken. We did a half order of it, and decided next time we would do a full order and an order of the Butter chicken to split. The waiters and owners were very attentive, and it was a pleasant atmosphere on the inside. Parking is a bit tight out front but there is plenty of parking out back.

Our server was probably one of the worst servers I have ever had. Zero personality and literally never said one word to us. Several to go orders and Uber Eats people came in and out while we waited about 10 minutes. We finally told the man at the front desk that we needed to order and get some drinks. Server came over with his notepad and looked at us to take orders, didn't say a word. When he brought the dishes, a few minutes later, he literally plopped all of them in one spot in the table without making any attempt to remember which dish went to which person. Very odd behavior The dishes on the menu are clearly marked vegetarian, vegan or contains meat. We had two dishes that were supposed to be vegan, one was a saag dish which they had placed butter over the top of. It looked delicious to everyone, but the vegans who could not eat it. When we pointed it out, they made no attempt to offer us another dish and just said oh yes, that's ghee (clarified butter) we said the menu indicated it was vegan, but again no response. The two vegans at our table just decided rather than argue, they will share the rice dish, which was also indicated as vegan. As they started to eat it, they realized there were several pieces of paneer in it. I really hope this was a one off because this was one of my favorite places to eat Indian food. Very very disappointing and no accommodation for the inedible dishes.

This and Thirukuppusamy's in Chandler are the only two. If you are from North Phoenix or West Valley, this is the closet place to get a MEAN dosa. All of the South Indian food is great here. If you come here and expect a good Butter Chicken, lol. Order South Indian food and you won't be disappointed. The food at Chennai Cafe is salty, spicey, and tangy. It's got a good mix of all the flavors that remind me of home. I specifically get the Thali meals. These meals have a bit of every curry that is made that day. Usually split between 2 veg curries, 2 nonveg curries, rice, naan (roti), yogurt, and a dessert. All the curries were excellent. I couldn't eat the entire thali as the quantity of food will put you to sleep, so I ate all the meat stuff with the rice and bread and took all the vegetarian/dessert stuff home. Service is typical Indian restaurant, bunch of dudes standing around. You'll have to flag them down anytime you want something. Don't be shy to do so! That's how you do it at an Indian restaurant. Ambiance is typical no-frills Indian restaurant. Don't expect white glove treatment here. Small dining room area with chairs pretty close to each other. However, know what you are going to order and it'll come out fresh and spicy. Definitely an all time favorite for me in the Valley.

When we arrived the employee told us it was a 15 minute wait and asked for our name and phone number. We looked forward to our meal and so after we gave our information and then left to walk around until we received the call. After about 15 minutes we got a call at 1:37pm that our table was ready. It took us about 3-4 minutes to walk back and we were promptly seated. I was happy to see that there were real plates unlike the paper plates we had to use the last time. I filled my plate and while it was just as good as the last time we were there I quickly remembered how spicy the food is. I sat with my plate of food as I made it through the spicy but otherwise tasty food. Not everything was hot. Some of the food even though presented on heated elements was actually slightly cold. When they cleared the table of our dirty plates I asked them to leave our water cups and the water pitcher which was still 1/3 filled as my mouth was still recovering from the heat/spiciness. Then to my surprise one of the employees approached our table and told us people were waiting and wanting us to leave. I have never felt so insulted by a merchant or dining establishment. We still hadnt drunk our water and I had paid the bill at 2:02pm so it hadnt even been 30 minutes since we were sat for our meal. If you don't mind being rushed during your meal then this is the place for you!

There was so much flavor in the pizza, but it was also light. The crust was perfectly crispy and had a good char. The masala mac and cheese was phenomenal. I loved how much depth of flavor there was and it wasn't heavy or greasy. The only thing I would probably not order again was the chai. It wasn't as flavorful as I've had before, it seemed more "milky" but it also wasn't something I regretted getting either. It's just lighter on flavor for my tastes. Overall I wholly recommend eating here. I absolutely can't wait to try more of the menu. It's worth the visit if you like Indian cuisine.

So I was excited to hear there's a similar concept in Tempe. I stopped by on a Monday for an early dinner. Parking wasn't an issue in the free lot they share with several other businesses including Wingstop. Ambiance (3.5/5): This is a casual eatery. And a relatively small one at that. There are 10 tables or so. The type of place you go for the food, and not the ambiance. Service (2/5): You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. The guy working the cash register seemed to be out of it. I pretty much had to guide him to do his job. A little frustrating, but not a big deal because service isn't a big part of the experience here anyways. Drinks (4.5/5): They have Indian beer, they have mango lassi, so that alone makes it an interesting assortment. I ended up going with a cheaper option: a bottled Mexican Coke. They have a decent selection of bottled beverages as well as fountain drinks. Food (4/5): While they have some items on the menu outside of this, I recommend you try one of their Indian pizzas. That means you should add Indian ingredients to your pizza. That's what makes the establishment unique. I created my own pizza. You choose from two sizes and you can select up to three toppings, your sauce base, and cheese. I went with the masala sauce, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, and paneer. The pizzas are made to order and came out nice and hot. First off, beyond the uniqueness of the offering, the pizza is quite good. Two different types of meats and a special cheese made it a delicious pizza. The crust is buttered, and while it's not thin crust, the pizza is on the thinner side. There were some red peppers on my pizza. I didn't order any. I'm not sure if it was a mistake or it's part of the masala sauce. Either way, I'm not a fan of peppers so I had to pick them out of my pizza which was a bit annoying. Still worth it given how good the pizza is. If you've never had Indian-inspired pizza, and you're looking for an affordable meal, check them out!
