Came here on a food hop to share a couple dishes and started with the gongura (sorrel) dosa which came with tomato chutney, coconut chutney and peanut chutney as well as a hot sambar. The gongura dosa was so delicious and the gungura was perfectly tart. We enjoyed the chutneys as we always do. The peanut chutney here reminded us of hummus a tad. The tomato one was my favorite and I liked the coconut one better than I expected. The sambar here was so delicious and a tad spicier than others I have had which I really enjoyed. I liked it so much that I decided to get a Vada sambar next. The vada was perfectly fried and still stayed crispy inside the sambar. I was interested in trying the battered Crispy Water Chestnut since I don't often see it on menus but decided to skip it after finding out it has artificial red food which I prefer to avoid. I was told that the curry leaf mushroom dish did not though. We ended the meal with a lifer for us- a traditional meetha paan breath freshener. I enjoyed the idea of trying this traditional end to the meal more than the taste and texture but really appreciate the experience. I was really surprised when the restaurant's staff told me to grab one by hand from a bowl of a bunch of them close together on the counter- seemed to not align with food safety laws and not be appealing. I really wanted to try one though so grabbed one from the very back that was still covered and used a napkin. When we walked out, I was offered some jalebi on the house that they were frying outside. I grew up eating Zalabia, the Moroccan version of Jalebi and haven't had it in years so this was a perfect touch and a great dessert to end the evening with. The whole restaurant is pure vegetarian which for an Indian restaurant also means no eggs. Lot's of dairy free vegan dishes too including the gongura dosa, chutneys and vada sambar we had. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! Good south Indian food- I am a foody and travel across the world. This place brought back memories and flavors of TamilNadu and Hyderabad. Good, fresh, clean food and ambience is clean+modern too. Only take for me is this is a pure veg food place, so do not expect much of protein other than lentils. But getting this quality of good veg food is also a win my LO enjoyed her crispy dosa. Service was timely and courteous. I need to try their live paan and gol gappa cart in evenings, heard it's amazing. Will be back. read more

Apparently ITLU opened somewhat recently because the last time I dined in this space, it was a different restaurant. ITLU is a vegetarian Indian restaurant in south Chandler, in the same plaza as other restaurants such as Oreganos and Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers. We went on a random weekday for dinner and it was surprisingly busy. My friends got dosas and I got chana masala with naan. The dosas came out surprisingly quick, it was like we placed our orders and they came out almost immediately. Unfortunately the chana masala took much longer. I thought the chana masala was good, but I definitely got food envy from their dosas and I noticed quite a few people around us also got dosas. While none of us are vegetarian, we all still really enjoyed our meals. We also got ice cream for dessert - unfortunately they don't do samples, so you just have to take a chance and hope you like it. I would definitely come back and try the dosas! read more

We came on a Friday night and we were seated within 5 minutes. It was lively and felt very clean. We got three items and they were absolutely delicious. Everything was great until we were leaving the restaurant. We paid our bill with a female server. A few minutes later as we were leaving the restaurant, a male server rushed us and kept saying we "don't pay at the front " near the entrance and was quite hostile. Everyone was looking at us. I reiterated that I already paid with the female server multiple times- not sure if he didn't understand us or just didn't believe us. He then said "fine, okay." No apology was said and it left us with an uncomfortable sour note after everything about the meal was honestly really great. I don't want to discredit the restaurant though because all the other staff were incredibly nice before this incident. read more

My friends were having breakfast and I stopped by. Tried their dosae , it was not a typical Mysore style dosa if you are looking for that. But otherwise it was good. The chutneys and sambar were all really good. Also had some veg kheema biryani and jackfruit biryani, both had very well balance flavor for the biryani with the masalas. Pretty authentic Indian Vegetarian food. Service could definitely be more efficient. They don't come and check on you to see if you need anything. A certain section of the restaurant is dark and dinghy so they need to make it consistent with the overall feel of it. The Idli, Dosa and Pau Bhaji were tasty but definitely has a kick of spice. We waited for a while to get the food. The food is the best in town so far. Authentically South Indian, feels like it's made with love. Food and service were great! I enjoyed their all vegetarian menu. My favorite dish was the paneer curry! The heat paired perfectly with the creaminess of the sauce. My only issue was upon leaving one of the servers began to yell at us in the middle of restaurant saying we didn't pay even though we just had paid with the female server 2 min prior! One of the newest Indian restaurants has opened in Chandler at the spot where Nando's used to be. The location is perfect--right near office spaces--and the restaurant itself is huge. This is a pure vegetarian restaurant focusing on South Indian breakfast and lunch. We visited on a Friday afternoon for lunch, and the first thing that stands out is the interior. Word is that they've invested heavily in the space, and it definitely shows--everything looks clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The menu is accessed through a simple QR scan and offers a wide variety of options. We ordered the vegetarian thali, which was beautifully presented with multiple curries, rice, puri, a sweet, and accompaniments. It was a satisfying and filling meal. While the food was good, I wouldn't call it exceptional--there felt like something was missing in terms of flavor depth. Service was quick and efficient, the staff was attentive, and pricing felt reasonable for the portion size and ambience. It's online order, I placed a food order this evening, and after waiting about 30 minutes, I received a call informing me that the biryani I ordered was unavailable because they had run out. I asked for an accurate estimate of how long it would take to prepare another option, but the person on the phone was rude and repeatedly said they could not provide an exact time. By the time I am writing this review, it is already 8:00 PM, and my children were hungry after waiting unnecessarily. The person I spoke with identified himself as Pavan and said he was the owner when I asked to speak with the owner. The way the situation was handled was disappointing--there was no clear communication, no proper apology, and no effort to provide a reasonable solution after wasting 30 minutes of our time. I hope the restaurant improves its order-management process, communicates item availability earlier, and trains staff to handle customers respectfully. read more

On Saturday a group of friends went to Italy for lunch. Food was good but customer service was awful. What we ordered was not received ina timely manner and one person did not get her food at all as even though she said what she wanted several times it never registered with the waitress. Also health and safety does not seem to concern the staff as my friend fell off a chair with wheels and hurt her shoulder and back but the could not be bothered to help her get up. They did not ask if she needed medical attention and refused to give any information about the owner so she could talk to him about the incident. Stunning Ambiance - you can definitely tell they spent a lot of money and time on making the interior feel upscale and luxe. Service was incredibly attentive and answered all of our questions. The decor is very nicely done. The food was very good. However, we will not be returning. Had to scan for the menu. I ordered the Thali lunch and told twice not to share before it was brought to the table. Also told that they do not provide to-go containers for thali. We did receive a tiny container for the chutneys provided with our naan. So I made a valiant effort to stuff my leftovers into the container. I paid at the counter because the waiter was MIA. My mother was unable to finish thali, i advised my server for a box so all the rice and vegetables is not wasted! but the manager refused, he said it is in the Menu I am unable to take for the food I paid for. Fantastic South Indian. Very authentic and flavorful. We ordered a variety of dosa and all were excellent. We had the masala dosa, lab bhaji dosa and masala dosa. The mango lassi was great. And a paan at the end was solid. This is our new go-to place for dosa. And I love that it's all veg. I can't wait to come for lunch to try the thali and pani puri chaat. We tried twice 1. Service was lacking. We waited for a long time for the server to bring us what we asked for and had to hunt him down twice. 2. Spice level is off the charts. Ordered a masala dosa for my 5 year old and specifically asked for mild, nope they got us Hot. When we asked to have it replaced, we were told to order a plain one from the menu, and they wouldn't replace the spicy meal. Needless to say that we won't be back because of this experience. Ate their Thali ( a medley of dishes like a charcuterie of sorts ) of which had about 9 to 10 items to consume along with dessert and finally the real thing enjoyed it immensely because Indian cuisine is a lot more than the typical chicken tikka masala.
