Excellent local shawarma spot right in the heart of Tempe. They are open late and I had the cravings so I stopped by and got some Halal chicken shawarma with hummus and tzatziki. Upon entering, a staff member came up and greeted me and explained to me that they have different screens to order off their Greek or their Indian food sides of their menu. He was thorough in his explanation and I was able to get my food within 10 minutes, it wasn't much of a wait. There is limited seating options in this restaurant but I believe there is outside seating available. Appreciate the convenience and the chicken shawarma tasted on point, the service was solid. read more

Had my first experience at this restaurant with a take out order. It was the best I have had! Had the beef and lamb in the fluffy Greek wrap, humus and the mango Lassi to drink. The wrap and meat were SOOO tender, fresh and delicious. The humus was also very good. The Lassi was unusual in that it is not something I am used to drinking, but I really enjoyed the flavor and would definitely have it again. The chicken I received was dry and tough, the rice was flavorless and the pitas clearly came out of a package. It was so disappointing.

Malki, the owner, was working as usual and wearing many hats. She prepared the chicken shawarma as if she'd made it hundreds of times. It was quick and many others were right behind me waiting to put in. An order for the famous wrap. I like everything on it and extra spicy with the secret sauce. Pure deliciousness in every bite. Great spot tucked away near ASU. It's mostly buzzing with university kids good food , affordable prices and stays open until late in the night. I have just tried the chicken shawarma and the burgers the filling was great , especially with the red secret sauce. There is an extra 50 cents to get the sauce on the side. We ended up here accidentally after our two first choices were closed. Overall, a pretty decent experience. Read on... Atmosphere: Shawarma Paradise is in an older strip mall on the corner of Terrace Road and Lemon in an older part of Tempe. The strip mall looks a little sketchy. The atmosphere is very basic, the table tops are made from painted plywood, it's older and on a 10 point clean-scale, I would give it somewhere between a six and a seven. It's relatively comfortable. Service: The lady at the counter started off a bit quiet and shy, but seemed kind. We gave her lots of kudos and praise and that seemed to help her come out of her shell a little bit. She brought us our food with a smile, so that was nice. Overall, I would rate the counter service as an 8 1/2 out of 10. Food: The chicken Shawarma plate she made for us was enormous, which was great. The basmati rice under the chicken Shawarma was warm and steamy, the hummus was pretty decent although I've never had it with green olives in it, so that was a bit different. The pita was warm and large and soft. While the chicken Shawarma portion was gigantic, and it tasted pretty good, it wasn't the best I've had, a bit bland. The garlic sauce was delicious. They don't have a soda machine, so you'll be buying a bottle of something if you're thirsty. The chicken Shawarma plate was around $10 plus a drink, so pretty standard pricing. Overall I would rate Shawarma Paradise a 7 out of 10, making this a 3.5 star review. Oh no. Where do I start. The original owners sold the business and I just experienced the absolute most vile, smelly, disgusting dish of my life. This place used to be a quick, convenient, CHEAP, place with the most generous owners, food was always incredible. Just went in after a year of not going, looks completely different, that's fine... I'll try it. Menu has completely changed, okay I'll order what I usually get separately and make it.... Bad decision. Fries were over cooked and the chicken... not even sure what that was. BEST GYROS IN TEMPE Go up to the counter to order Subway style. The woman that helped us out was very friendly. She was the first person to tell me about a secret sauce so I had to try it on my gyro. Did not have to wait long for the gyros to be ready. I took the order to go and it was still warm when I got to my destination. Chicken gyro was wonderful. The flavor of the chicken itself was delicious. The added secret sauce might be spicy for some folks. The Traditional Gyro is very tasty. This place has the best shawarma I've ever had in my life and I've travelled quite a lot in my life and got to try a lot of shawarmas types and styles. Packed with meat and all the other ingredients are just perfectly balanced. The price is extremely affordable and definitely worth it! There's always a nice lady at the front that treats everyone so nice. While waiting for my order one time, someone came in to complain and the way she handled it was awesome customer service. How have I never been here until today? I go into this plaza for the late night Chinese eats. I saw the hungry howls (haven't been) and always assumed this place was associated with hungry bowls cuz it looks like its connected, but it isn't! It has its own separate doorway that is completely enclosed, which is honestly another reason why I probably never noticed it! This plaza has all the foods and open late--like 2am or later:) I love having good late night food options! Anyways, I came in to ask for a beef or chicken gyro cuz I don't like lamb. They were super accommodating and used beef sharma that they put fresh on the grill as well as the real pita bread (not that thin flour one people use as wraps). Then I added hummus, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives, tzaziki, and tahini sauce. $7 and it was delicious! The lady asked if it was my first time and when I said yes, she gave me some free baklava! The customer service was out of this world!!! The place has seating inside to eat, but its pretty small. If the plaza allows it, I would recommend putting a sign or pictures of the food on the door so people passing by will see it! Its too bad they can't put outside seating. Addictingly good food! You have the option to build your own sandwich, with chicken or beef shawarma, or gyro meat or falafel. Similarly to Chipotle or Subway, the staff will ask you what kind of bread you want, (tortilla or Arabic bread), and go down the line of different toppings that you can add to your sandwich. There is also a combo option of fries and a drink to go with the sandwich, but I usually ask for the fries inside the sandwich. :) The amount of food you get is worth every penny you spend on a sandwich! I found this place on a google search as the restaurant I planned on visiting was closed. My diet is mainly vegetarian but I do eat chicken. I ordered the veggie burger (single) with extra cheese. As for toppings I went with everything except no tomato and chose tizikki as my sauce. I couldn't pass up on French fries, my weakness. I decided to add a protein packed chicken kabob skewer for good measure. The chicken kabobs are not the bright yellow from a saffron yogurt marinade that many places use. This one had a seasonings of salt and pepper and I think I tasted citrus. It was very tasty but a bit too much black pepper for my taste. The veggie burger had great reviews. There seemed to be a mix up with the toppings as there was a lot of tomato but no extra cheese. The VB had a crispness and held together well. There is slight sweetness, perhaps a bit of falafel mix as a binder? The fries were crispy and had a seasoning on but were not overly salty. They almost reminded me of the Burger King fries where there was a crisp coating on them. Sometimes as a vegetarian, you really crave a big messy burger like sandwich. This is it! Some assembly required. As for the extra cheese, well in my book that makes everything better but surprisingly wasn't missed. **** judgement free zone *** I added fries onto the VB which assisted greatly with the messy aspect. read more
