I used ABF U-pack moving from Canada to USA because of its low price. But the experience was terrible.
First, delivery time. Since I was living in Downtown Toronto, parking the pod is a problem. I contacted ABF Toronto terminal 2 weeks before the moving, and they said the only way is to deliver and pick up the pod on the same day, and would gave me 2 hours for loading. Thus, I hire more labors to make sure to finish the moving and loading in 2 hours. I asked whether they have a specific time to arrive. Although I know this is not a guaranteed service, they said they would arrive at 8am without any hesitation. One day before the moving, I called Toronto terminal again, and they confirmed to arrive at 8am. However, on the moving day, the pod arrived at 11am! I paid extra extra money on moving labors. So, if there is anything not written on the contract, do not trust their words.
Second, paperwork. I called Toronto terminal 2 weeks before moving to clarify how to fill the form and prepare paperwork. The conversation made me feel silly. And at last my paperwork was not proper, which led to the disaster later on. On the moving day, the driver said I missed some copies, and he called the terminal and said I can fax/email the copies later. I then contacted the terminal after the pickup and sent some additional documents via email. I was then told there were some other problems. Thus I was keeping sending emails back and forth with them. After one of my emails, no more replies. I thought the paperwork was fine, otherwise they would reply or call me.
After 2 days, I tracked online, and it only showed that the pod was picked up. I called ABF, and I was told that since it's a cross-boarder moving, the information is not always updated, and I should call back next week.
I called ABF the next Monday, and found that the pod was not moved at all. I then contacted Toronto terminal, and was told that the person who was dealing with my documents, the same person who was sending emails with me back and forth on my moving day, got sick and left for two days. Since my paperwork was still not correct, they had to hold my pod until she recovered and got back to work on it. Can you believe this?! My pod was just delayed 3 days due to such an irresponsible and unprofessional behavior. They do not care about you at all.
We had to live in hotel for 2 days because of the delay. I complained about the delay. At first, they said the delivery time is not guaranteed for cross-boarder moving, by highlighting the terms in the contract. I emphasized that the delay was due to that employee left for sick leave without nobody else carry on the job. Then I was told her sick was not expected and nobody else could take over that work. I replied and said that's not the key reason, which was their irresponsibility cause the unnecessary delay, since that employee should foresee her sudden leave would cause the delay. At last, I was told that this was also due to my documents was not ready, they also spent money on holding my pod for extra days, it's a no-winning situation, and they did their best already.
So many excuses and just do not admit the delay was due to their unprofessional performance. Although they said they promise 100% customer satisfactory on their website, do not believe it. Be careful with the terms in contract. read more
