When I was deciding on a moving pod service to use, I was initially hesitant to choose U-pack because of overwhelmingly negative reviews I've seen on Trustpilot. Since U-Pack was the most economical choice out of other options I explored, I decided to take a chance. I'm happy to say I made the right choice. The process of setting up a time and place to drop off my container was very easy. The requirements for the drop-off were clearly explained. However, I wish it was possible to automatically receive a location-specific assessment of whether or not a parking permit for the container was needed and, if so, a link to the location's website for applying for a parking permit. Even better would be if U-Pack could, for a fee, apply for the permit on my behalf. On delivery day and pickup day, the driver who dropped off my container was very courteous. I was easily able to track the status of my container's delivery and arrange for a dropoff of the container at my new location. One suggestion I would have for the dropoff process is allowing for choosing a time for the truck to arrive. I had an incident with a neighbor at my new location where the truck carrying the container was blocking their driveway. He was worried about being able to leave for work on time, although the truck driver had quickly finished his business and left the neighborhood. I would like to be able to schedule the dropoff for after the neighbor had left for work to avoid incidents like this. Overall, I had a positive experience with U-Pack and would definitely consider them again for my next move in the future. read more

I moved from the west coast to Texas and went through so many options before deciding on U-pack. The whole process was easy. Customer service explained the process by phone and recommended I reserve 2 cubes if I wasn't sure if all of my items would fit into 1, and I ended up needing both cubes. They would not have charged me for the other cube had I ended up not needing it. I hired movers to pack and load the cube on-site at their location with ABF. There is a slight discount to load it on-site. I chose this route because of the discount, but with hiring movers to load them, I think the price would've come out even with having them drop off the cubes at my home and scheduling for pick up. I booked it a couple months in advance and the rates were about 1/3rd or sometimes more of the cost of long distance movers. It required a little bit of coordination overall, but it was worth it. I slowly took my time and drove over 5 days to get to Texas. U-Pack estimated 10-12 days for my stuff to arrive, but it ended up arriving in 5 days! So I was able to receive my belongings right when I had arrived! I must've gotten lucky since friends of mine said their movers took 2 weeks or a month for their stuff to arrive. I feel so blessed! The service was top notch with everyone I interacted with. I used 2 sets of locks, although I don't recommend using the brink lock that U-pack recommends on their website. Because Texas was icy when I arrived, the Brink keyholes had ice in them so I had to melt the ice with a lighter before the keys could fit in. My second lock was a Master Lock magnum lock and for whatever reason, no ice formed in those keyholes. Excellent customer service when making the reservation and in dealing with their drivers and the ABF staff at the service center. The reservation agent was very helpful, took the imitative to recognize that the delivery address in a rural area wouldn't be possible for their truck to reach and suggested alternatives for retrieving our stuff. The best experience ever, not that I move very frequently or anything. starting with the quote, the pricing, the actual delivery of the empty , pick up , storage and then delivery from storage to new home..... SMOOTH ...SMOOTH ...SMOOTH... although the box was fully packed (loaded by another team of people (I hired locally) , nothing had moved or damaged. If at all, it was because of the weight on some of the lower boxes. I had my u-pack stored in the local storage in - Portland, OR (I moved from Bay area, California) for 15 months. They even forgave the next month's storage cost because I had it stored only for 4 days of the last month when I had it delivered to the apartment. Most Polite people in this service industry. DO NOT USE U-PACK. Our Relocube Was Broken Into and $6,000+ of Belongings Stolen Due to Their Negligence. My fiancé and I recently had a horrific experience with U-Pack and ABF Freight that resulted in a major theft of our belongings due to negligence, miscommunication, and total lack of accountability on their part. On Monday, July 21, we had our U-Pack Relocube dropped off in front of our San Francisco apartment. That same day, I immediately called U-Pack to confirm next-day pickup for Tuesday, July 22--a request we made specifically because of concerns about leaving the container on the street overnight in a high-theft area. A representative confirmed the pickup would happen between 8am-8pm the next day. Well, Tuesday came and went. No pickup, no update, no communication. I tried calling both U-Pack and ABF Freight all day and couldn't get anyone on the phone. We assumed they'd come the following morning. The next morning (Wednesday, July 23), we woke up to find the container had been broken into overnight. Despite using the exact locks U-Pack recommends, both were completely destroyed, and over $6,000 worth of our belongings were stolen. We have security camera footage of the entire incident. This was infuriating and heartbreaking. After urgently replacing the locks and re-securing what remained, I immediately called the ABF Freight service center to confirm the pickup time--only to be told by Glen, the supervisor, that no one had scheduled our pickup at all. He said their drivers had already left and refused to do anything to help, saying we'd have to wait another day. At this point, we were completely stuck because we were moving out that day and had no way to monitor or protect the container. I called U-Pack again to explain the theft, the unscheduled pickup, and asked them to escalate the issue. Their response? "Call ABF. We can't help you." No accountability. No solution. Just a painful cycle of blame-shifting between U-Pack and ABF, with zero coordination between the two entities, despite supposedly being partners in the same shipping process. In the end, the only person who helped us was the freight driver, Jason. He had dropped off our container Monday and remembered us saying we expected a Tuesday pickup. When we weren't on his pickup list for two days in a row, he grew concerned. On Wednesday afternoon, purely out of personal responsibility and initiative, he called the ABF service center and asked if we still needed pickup, and he came to us directly. Only because of Jason's care and thoughtfulness was our Relocube finally picked up. He saved the day. The rest of the system utterly failed us. U-Pack's incompetence and negligence directly contributed to a massive theft of our personal property. Their total lack of follow-through, transparency, and internal communication left us vulnerable and unsupported. Not once has U-Pack reached out to take responsibility for this disaster. If Jason the driver hadn't taken initiative, our Relocube might still be sitting on the street. I would not recommend U-Pack to anyone, especially if you are moving from one city to another. Ordered a UPack and had it delivered. The unit was broken into (bolts removed from the box, our lock was UNTOUCHED). Called customer service and was charged $150 to cancel due to their faulty equipment. Not only were we charged but the agent we got was extremely rude. They accidentally sent my truck all the way from Salt Lake City, Utah back to Georgia instead to Nevada where it was supposed to go. So all my belongings crossed the country three times instead of once. No one updated me with any information, and when I called, they would transfer me between people over and over. It took me hours to find out what had happened and no one seemed very concerned or sorry. The drivers I met were professional and helpful, but the organization was awful, my stuff was lost, had more damage and wear and tear from crossing the entire country two extra times, and there was no communication or effort to make it right. PLEASE READ!! For the love of god save your money and either go elsewhere or sell your precious items and buy new in your next location!!!!! We were going from San Diego, CA to Wilmington, NC. It's a straight shot across the 40 or the 10, basically sea level. We weren't having our freight lug up and down the Rockies. We bubble wrapped just about everything, boxed everything, layered everything with sheets, towels, wrapped items in plastic, tied items with rope to the walls to ensure it was secured, heavier boxes on bottom, you name it. Upack even gave us 75lb wooden walls to go up to hold it all in. We spent $4000 on the freight since we needed a bit more square footage and we're fine with doing so because we really wanted to keep some of our most precious items collected over the years. Our freight was dropped off at our new house and we were eager to make our new place feel like home! We unfortunately had the opposite experience we were hoping for. When we took the wooden doors off, it looked as if the truck driver rolled off a cliff 6 times and hopped back on the road to deliver our stuff. I'm literally convinced the driver got into an accident. Everything was filthy dirty with black dirt, everything was either dented, scratched, or completely broken. What was the point spending all this money only to throw 90% of it out? We wrote an extensive claim report to upack (3 pages worth) with all the photos. $4000 worth of our items were ruined on top of what we spent to get it delivered. I had to follow up on my email because they never even replied. 3 days later, Kacey Yother "Supervisor", send me an email saying since they didn't pack our stuff and it was just "freight shifting", they deny our claim entirely. We're not dumb. We understand the items might shift a bit being on the road. But finding my laundry rack that was sitting on top in the back, in a million pieces sitting under an 80lb rug in the front, just does NOT add up to me. It was the most insincere email with zero care or understanding of what we just experienced. TLDR: U-PACK isn't as good as before. One year ago, I rented U-pack relocubes two year ago moving from the west coast to midwest. The whole process was very efficient with little delay. Considering the price and the long distance, it's a great deal! Recently I moved again from midwest to the east coast. The prices seems a little high but I still went with u-pack due to the good experience I had. This time neither dropping off the relocubes nor delivery was on time. They are behind the schedule all the time. My call was not picked up during Saturday business hour. We placed the order for two ReloCubes online. They showed up on the day quoted on the online booking. The driver called an hour before and gave us a window of time. He was very nice and professional and made sure the ReloCubes were placed exactly where we needed them (which is tricky in Oakland with street parking!) We packed them same day and scheduled to pickup the next day. We were able to track both ReloCubes online which was great. The ReloCubes showed up in Kentucky ahead of schedule and we called to arrange delivery. We called and set up a delivery time frame for the next day. The driver showed up on time, worked with us to get them put exactly where we wanted. All of our items were in good condition, although a little moved around inside the cube. My ReloCube arrived at its destination well ahead of schedule and it was dropped off early in the morning. Just a word of advice though: When loading your contents, don't call to schedule your pickup until it's totally ready! They don't offer pickup windows. Move from Livermore CA to Simpsonville SC. We asked for quotes from various moving companies - Mayflower / Bekins and a few others. In each of these cases we were quoted anywhere from 12K to 18K for a Trailer move. We would have to have done the basic packing and they would do the loading - padding and securing our belongings. We came across U-Pack / ABF and got a 27 foot trailer with a pay as you go (in terms of feet of trailer used) option. In the end we spent $5300/- for an end to end move. We also worked with U-Pack to learn about a company called Moving Staffers who provide you with a crew who can help with Loading and Unloading these trailers. We spent $1100/- for 4 hours each end for loading and unloading assistance. Nothing broken / Nothing missing - what could have turned into a nightmare was a breeze. Have already recommended them to a few of my friends who are moving out of CA soon. Do not waste your $$'s with the BIG moving companies !! One thing to note: if you hire folks to help load your trailer make sure they load to the ceiling. The day after the traile was sent to me, it stated to rain. As I was loading, I noticed it was wet on the floor where a few moving boxes has been lay. The next day, I have to cut some plastic sheets and lay it on the floor. Almost 5 ft long n 3 ft wide (2x). I look up to the ceiling n there was a tiny water drop from the ceiling. I tied a bucket to catch the water. I tied it around some of the boxes from moving while the trailer is on the road. After, the trailer was delivered to me...two of the bottom were wet n damaged. One box, I didn't have a trash bag in so the bottom stuff hot wet n smell. The other box was damaged since I have trash bag lay inside. Over all it was good ($$$$) other than the whole on the ceiling and two boxes got damaged. I don't have to worry about driving a big box moving truck. read more

I was a little apprehensive, but we packed very well (wrapped all furniture in moving blankets and plastic wrap and used ratchet straps). Our movers loaded everything very securely/compactly, but didn't do a great job in terms of putting heavy stuff on the bottom, so there were a few slightly crushed boxes, but no damage. Upack freights are cheaper than other pods for a reason, put the time into packing well/paying for good movers!! After moving from CA to NC, the only thing that broke was my toaster oven, which, ironically, was the best packed item in the bunch and the box it was in showed no sign of damage. That said, id recommended cleaning the upack before loading. There was some gunky black tar on some of the boxes. We didn't notice it when we loaded, but i cant imagine how it got there if it wasn't there to begin with. read more

I followed their instructions re getting a padlock (actually got the one they suggested) to ship things from NC to Missouri. Including storage it cost over $1800. When I received the Relocube in Missouri, however, the padlock was missing. Once I unpacked everything I realized it wasn't just a mistake as someone had taken the only really things of value in there: my electronics. I contacted U-Pack who put me through to their claims department ABF. I had genuinely assumed they were a proper company that wasn't going to brazenly scam people. But when I filed the claim and they said: we have no evidence anything was wrong with your shipment but as "a gesture of goodwill" we are offering you $25 (for over $300 worth of equipment). When I asked what I could have done, they just waffled. Essentially, they will never find any "evidence" they did anything wrong after their "investigation." When I asked what this so-called "investigation" entailed: they just look to see if their staff report any problems. Yeah, so staff that steal things might report their own crime? I spoke to their manager and got the same nonsense about how they have no evidence and I should have looked at the contract. After speaking to them for a long time I realize that essentially the only thing I could have done was NOT use them...there is ZERO protection for things getting stolen as (1) they won't accept that it was stolen and (2) whatever they end up offering out of "goodwill" will be based it on the purported weight of the items! But expensive things can be light and cheap things can be heavy! I essentially paid $1800 to get $300+ worth of things getting stolen and a claims department that pretends paying $50 (their final offer) as a "gesture of goodwill." They are a scam...don't use them. Or definitely DO NOT put anything of value in there as you will get no real compensation for your items. read more

Scandalously bad! A few weeks ago, I ordered two U-Pack containers to be delivered to my address and agreed to pay extra for two-day guaranteed delivery of the loaded containers to their final destination. When I called the local office to schedule the delivery of empty containers, they told me that the machine they use to deliver the containers is under repair and thus they won't be able to deliver them to me on the scheduled date. What is worse, they cannot even give me a specific date as to when exactly their machine will be fixed and back in operation. This has essentially destroyed my moving plans and will cost me hundreds of dollars. I don't understand how a national moving company does not have a contingency plan for an equipment failure in one of their local offices. read more

Worst experience ever. I'm moving from Massachusetts to Nevada. o They dropped off the 28' trailer in my driveway in Massachusetts on time. Giving me 5 days to load. o Packing material: No pads, blankets, ropes, or any kind of necessities to pack or travel .. there was NONE, zero. When I called, they said we don't supply any, so I had to go buy my own. o The trailer was dirty: Dirt, wood chips, debris, used straws, empty juice boxes, ...etc. I had to clean it before putting my stuff in. o The ramp: The ramp doesn't slide out/in from under the trailer like U-Haul trucks, it's a 200-250 LB folded in half ramp, to be carried out/in to the trailer. o The lock pad: To lock the trailer overnight, I asked for the key to the lock-pad attached to the trailer gate, I was told "We can't give you that, you have to buy your own". o Ramp Doesn't fit: When the ramp is folded, it doesn't fit the width of the trailer, its about 6"-12" wider than the trailer, you have to stand it up to fit in. o The "Bulkhead Panel": The gate to secure your stuff from moving around, is falling apart, broken wood, with holes all over... heavy, needs 2 people to move it and adjust it to lock. o Delivery to destination: Was promised 7-8 business days to deliver ... needless to say it took them 22 day to arrive in Nevada. o Close on weekends: They don't do business on weekends !!! no delivery, no pickup, not even answering their phones. o $900 for no reason: Was surprised to see an additional $900 charge on my CC for a month worth of storage that I didn't ask for. When I called, they say they will credit the CC back, 10 days later, no credit, called back, they said: "for some reason it didn't go through let me do it again" check again in another 4-5 business days. Finally got it after 2 weeks. o 80% Damage: Trailer arrived with 80% of my furniture and boxes are damaged... from scratches and dings, to completely crushed beyond repair or use - when I called - he says sorry but nothing we can do for you. o Pad-locks were cut: they cut the 2 padlocked I have on the trailer doors without even calling or notifying me. I was moving all of my stuff from California to Illinois to put into a storage unit there while I decide where my permanent move will be. Every step of the way they were in touch with me and were always very responsive when I had millions of questions, never having done a move like this in a pod before. I got a lot of quotes from moving companies, but moving companies load and unload your things numerous times during the actual move and I know horror stories with both my dad and sister who have used different companies and lost a lot of their things or had them sent to someone else who was moving at the same time. Their quotes were also considerably more expensive than U-Pack. I personally loaded the pod myself and secured it and then used their preferred company Moving Staffers to unload at the final destination. I wasn't there when they unloaded the pod, but my sister who is very particular about everything and expects good service said she was very impressed and will use them again herself for any moves she has there. All in all, they made what could have been a very traumatic experience the very best it could be. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I recently moved from Florida to Puerto Rico. U-Pack's partner on the island (ABF) does not have adequate equipment to serve Puerto Rico. Their trucks broke down multiple times. I was forced to reschedule delivery multiple times. When they finally did try to deliver, the truck did not have enough torque to drive up my street. I was forced to miss a day of work to arrange for delivery to a storage unit. I was then left to wait at the storage unit for 3 hours, as the delivery arrived late AND the forklift to unload my cubes was NOT on the truck with my cubes. I still have to get my stuff to my house. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! They first promis delivery of our two trailers on Wednesday, we hired a crew to unload. ABF refused to deliver them. we then had to pay the crew to come out again when ABF promised delivery on Friday. again, no show. It is now two hours after the time we were promised for the second trailer that they failed to deliver the first time. Our unloading company has been here sitting and just charging us by the hour. read more
