U-Pack's representatives are very informative. But after we reserved the trailers for pick up, we found out they use ABF for the carrier. We paid over $10,000 for two trailers to move our stuff from near Los Angeles, CA to near Atlanta, GA. The end result is the first trailer got water damage on our expensive furniture due to a foot long leak on the trailer's roof. The furniture in the second trailer got broken table legs, dents and scratches on almost every piece of furniture. We had all of them wrapped by plastic sheets. We made the water damage only because it was very obvious that their trailer roof had an opening causing the water leak. ABF sent me an email offering to pay $700 on the condition we have to sign agreement that we would never publish any comments on any social media or what so ever. We did not accept this condition. Our damage is way too big than an offer of $700 to keep us to be silent on such poor quality service. I felt U-Pack's customer reps were very nice. But we did not hire ABF for the moving service. When there are damage claims, there is no U-Pack customer service provided. I would not recommend anyone using their trailer moving service. I moved from Oakland, CA to Scottsdale,AZ and it was my first move out of my family home. However the ease of UPACK eliminated unnecessary extra stress of moving. Thank you so much to the customer care agents. I called so many times, only due to me not knowing what i was doing, but each time no matter how ridiculous or simple the question the agent was able to assist me and go above and beyond. I use a relcocube and boy those things are huge inside. I had 4 large boxes, a full sized mattress, a microwave, bed frame, 70inch floor mirror, 50 inch tv, table, tv stand, chair and about 10 more items and i still had plenty of space. I love how they give you call when the cube is being dropped off and delivered. And you don't have to be home for the pick up. Thank you 1,000 UPACK!! read more

I'm not particularly impressed. Scheduled my ReloCube dropoff for today between 8 am and noon. When noon rolled around and no ReloCube, I called them. Someone named Steve said "Gee, I don't know why they keep scheduling them for Mondays..." Long story short, I will not be receiving my ReloCube today. Steve tells me I'll have it by 7:30 tomorrow morning, which, well, we'll wait and see if that happens. It's not like they had my name and number or anything (they did) so they could have called me to let me know the day THEY SET UP is a problem (they didn't). I have to be out of my house in three days, and I have no idea at this point if they'll actually deliver the cube in time for the packing folks to actually pack it. We did a cross-country move from California to New York. We hired local movers to load a UPack truck in California and then used UPack's Moving Staffers to get local movers to unload in New York. Upack offers great customer service access via phone - less than one minute of wait time every time I called, and they usually picked up immediately. Our final quote came in at around $10k ($5.5k to Upack and the rest to loaders & unloaders). By comparison, most end-to-end services were quoting $15k and may have cost even more. The cost savings were great, but the downsides of hiring three parties (loaders, Upack, unloaders) are: 1. More people to coordinate with. We had to move back our unloading date by 2 days and that required calls to Upack and to the local unloaders. 2. Less clear accountability if something goes wrong. The local movers we hired to load the truck are not experienced with long-distance moves, and so they packed the truck in a way that might qualify for a local move, but did not handle the long distance of cross-country well. Several items were damaged because they packed heavy stuff on light stuff, and did not secure items well. This is not the fault of UPack, but I just want to point out potential risks with this approach. We now have to sort out which of the three parties will be liable and might be able to compensate us for the damages. I anticipate a lot of finger-pointing in multiple directions. Also when the driver arrived, our loading zone was blocked and he argued with the local unloaders over time frames and what to do about the situation. If they were on the same team, that might have been resolved more quickly. read more

Horrible experience. I planned a move starting back in July and got a quote. I called them multiple times to ask questions and determine if this was the best solution for my move. They have great customer support. Great pricing. But they didn't let me know the schedule was already booked for those times and let me on with false expectations. When I booked online, it showed the dates as available. Then they told me on the phone that they are booked out until December and can't do anything to help. They only offered relo cubes with 3x the cost. Highly do not recommended. They are not reliable. read more

Especially if you are a single female I would NOT recommend U-Pack for the simple reason that their container delivery guy, at least the one who came to drop mine off, is condescending with an incredibly aggressive vibe. Like, I don't know if the guy just got out of jail, or if he has some personal problems in his life, but his RAGE for me out of the gate was insane. We ended up agreeing that he should take the containers with him after he was finished with his diatribe. Which left me with no containers at a critical point in my moving journey. Awesome I ended up going with Pods. In a situation like this, it just pays to go with the bigger, well-known brand. The Pods Pod was delivered by a friendly and helpful woman, for what its worth, who didn't act like I'd just personally knee capped her favorite athlete. read more

I used ABF/UPack to move from CA to IL in Nov 2021. It was my first time moving and therefore was trying to understand all the different parts of the process. Having done that, I will say be very clear that there are 3 very distinct parts to moving and whatever transportation service you choose, they can mainly be assessed for their reliability in terms of bringing your stuff from place A to B within the time frame that they provide you. "How" the stuff is packed and loaded is a completely different ball game. If you do your due diligence there (typically separate services) only then can you expect it to arrive without being broken or damaged. The transportation service itself cannot and will not guarantee that. So as far as the transportation piece is concerned I had a fine experience with ABF/UPack. They were easy, straightforward and pleasant to work with over the phone; their text and online system is easy and efficient. In fact my truck arrived a couple of days earlier than the time frame provided, and so I requested for it to be held until the final day which, they said, was not a problem! So it worked out great for me because I had my dates planned around that time frame. They only charge you for the amount of space your stuff occupies on the truck, which is secured in place with sturdy wooden doors and metal bars. So even though their truck may look big (especially compared to the PODS), you are essentially paying for what you use. They send you recommendations for "movers" which is the groups that help with the packing/loading. I went with one of their recommendations (Moving Staffers) and that worked out fine as well. Overall I would surely recommend ABF/UPack for your transportation needs. The only reason I'm doing 4stars, is because I really wish these companies helped clients understand the different steps in the process a little better, even for their own benefit. This is the spirit airlines of POD companies. They'll get your stuff from point A to point B, but their scheduling is awful. You won't know if your things will arrive between 8am-5pm and they require you to be there in person for drop off (plan to take a few days off work just to be there for delivery). My things didn't get picked up until 7pm when I was waiting since 8am. Found out after the fact that if you want a two hour time frame you pay an additional $75 (spirit airlines reference). Moving across the country is stressful as is...u-pack did an excellent job of making things even more stressful than they needed to be. The background: I moved across country (~1200 miles) and after doing a ton of research on cost-effective movers, I decided on U-Pack. I was moving a one bedroom studio and used one Relocube, which looks small when it is delivered but can actually hold a lot! The cost I paid about 2K for one Relocube. Seems like a lot, but they are super transparent about cost and their quotes are all inclusive (no hidden fees or additional charges). For cost comparison: a U-Haul truck similar storage as a ReloCube would have been roughly $200 cheaper, assuming no hidden fees or detours that would take us over the allotted miles, and not counting the time and additional gas cost for me personally hauling. Pods was almost twice as expensive, which immediately negated it as an option. The customer service From start to finish, I had a 5/5 customer service experience. U-Pack the website was accurate about number of agents available, was able to call and ask questions and have them answered on spot. After booking, I was given all necessary contact info to make the transition seamless, including the LOCAL contacts for pick-up and delivery (no annoying 1-800-mega-corporation automated headaches!) and every pick-up delivery driver I interacted with was PHENOMENAL on both ends; clearly describing the process, offering suggestions on best ways to pack and making recommendations on best times to call for pick-up delivery. What I appreciated the most was that the company (online, customer service, and the drivers) made it super clear what to expect at my delivery location; They informed me that I needed a permit to place the Relocube for unloading, and also provided the local contact information for the permit office. It made the process seamless and efficient! For customer service comparison: U-haul (1/5) was basically impossible to get a hold of for me - could only interact with online portal. Pods (4/5) customer service and we were able to get in contact with an agent quickly, but was recommended to get a quote (which required email/contact info) before calling. The stuff Anytime you move, using any service, jostling will occur and you can expect some broken items. Some shifting did occur with my items, but entirely due to how they were packed and not at the fault of the company. The physical ReloCube itself was clean and undented when it arrived and was delivered similarly. All east coast moves, one other from Maine to Florida, and Massachusetts to Florida. All 3 of our moves included outstanding service from U-Pack and ABF freight. The good: Everything showed up damage-free. The bad: I called 3 weeks before the scheduled delivery and gave address and time information. I call the day before to do one last confirmation and they say, "Oh, we must have had this in the system incorrectly. I don't think we can deliver it to you tomorrow." After 4 hours, 8 phone numbers and 20+ conversations, it was finally sorted out by Old Dominion, one of their partner shippers. In short Upack was awesome and we would use them again. We moved from Oklahoma to Florida, reserved a trailer instead of pods and hired movers to help us load. We played serious Tetris to make things stack high and tight, this was the absolute key to making this move successful in my opinion. It was a full day of loading, unloading a few things reloading, stacking and restacking to make sure it was high and tight, secured every 5 ish feet with straps and plywood and tight, tight, tight. Upack kept us in loop with their online app as to where our stuff was, we also used a few airtags randomly placed in boxes and that lined up with where UPack said our trailer was located each day. Upack uses ABF Freight to transport and everyone we talked to at ABF was super helpful and friendly. We had our trailer delivered and dropped off/picked up on time with no issues. It was where we needed it to be when we wanted it there at every step. We had one broken vase and our chest freezer was dented from the weight of the boxes but that was due to the way we stacked the space. These guys saved our interstate move after another company failed to show up on time, did not communicate and could not be reached for 12 hours. This was a situation where multiple steps were coordinated together, and everything had to be rescheduled on the fly. U-PACK came through and was able to get us taken care of with minimal disruptions to our original plans. Note: pack your own things and pack them well. We hired them and they were the most efficient of all companies and provided good service. I gave them 4 stars for one reason, more communication. I think the information about the process should be thoroughly explained over the phone when you reserve their service. We did not realize that we had the wrong lock - information was on the last page - until they were ready to pick up the trailer and then it was too late. Good thing- all our belongings were there - and the only items slightly ruined was due to our neglect to properly wrap a few things (table, dresser, and two chairs slightly chipped). We also did not receive the call to schedule the delivery to our home when it arrived to the Service Center in the new location. Given that it was during a busy time, I honestly think they just forgot. I would totally use them again! read more

I've moved several times in the last few years, and this time I found u-pack. Wow, what an awesome experience! Comparing to the costs (effort, time, and money) of renting a moving van, this was incredible! I filled most of the trailer (got paid back for the footage I didn't use), they picked it up next day and hauled it into storage (I had over a month before I could take delivery). When I arrived at my new place, I called to get it dropped off and they came first thing in the morning. I've now completed my second move with U-Pack - this time I was transporting a few remaining large and heavy items and used a ReloCube. The experience was as smooth and trouble-free as the first time when I used linear feet in a truck. Once I confirmed the reservation all the information was available online, when I came to load the Cube in Oakland everyone was extremely helpful, and it arrived in NJ exactly when promised. Unloading was just as simple and this was the cheapest way I found to move large heavy bulky objects coast to coast. By the way, knowing what Relocubes look like and that they are subject to elements I brought some plastic tarps and one real rain tarp to put on top of everything, even though it was pouring rain the day we were packing and drizzling the day we were picking up, my stuff inside Relocube stayed totally dry. read more

U-Pack was actually my second choice for our relocation from SF to Honolulu, but after the full service company my husband's work recommended was unresponsive, I decided to book our containers and hope for the best. There was a bit more legwork with planning the packing (5-Star moving) in SF and unpacking (You Move Me) in Honolulu, but not only did I end up saving over 5k from the original quote of the full service company, our items arrived in just a few weeks, which was over a month ahead of the estimate from the other company. On each end of the drop off and pick up of the containers, I found U-pack to be responsive and professional. I had a great experience with U-Pack and would recommend to anyone! My wife and I moved last week from SF to Chicago. U-Pack dropped off two containers at our apartment complex. They take up one parking space each. They have a forklift attached to their trucks so they can drop off the pods in tight locations. We filled up the pods and bought some nylon rope at Walmart to keep everything securely strapped in. You will have to buy/use one lock per container (you don't need two lockers per container like the pictures might suggest, because you can't open one door without opening the other). Almost any lock should work fine. I used a standard Master Lock that you see on any high school locker. You don't need a lock that is super long. U-Pack is super organized and efficient and has excellent customer service. They called us, sent updates, and text you a link that you simply click when you are ready to have the guys pick up the containers. You don't even have to be there when they pick them up. Their sales people have a little wiggle room on price. I suggest getting a quote from another company and if it's lower, let U-Pack know and see if there is anything they can do "because you heard they have great service but are price conscious". read more

Very pleased with this company. Easy booking process, seamless communication. They update you before drop off and pick up so you are prepared. You use your own locks so you know tour stuff will be untouched. Please pack it tightly and use straps as it certainly will shift. The cubes are smaller than you might think. I had more than 2 completely filled after my move out of my studio. Now mind you I filled my attic at the house, so it had more in it than your usual studio, but still I didn't think I would run out of space. Their largest dimension is height, so you really have to stack high. Plan out your heavy stuff to be on the bottom. They place them where you want them in the direction you desire. Customer service was prompt, courteous and effective. Drivers were friendly and a pleasure to interact with. Moving across the country is not cheap, and this company is not either, but you are in control of your stuff and I'd recommend them highly! read more

We just completed a move from SF to Maine. I couldn't have been more happy with U-Pack-- an exemplary experience all around. Every step, I was able to connect with a service rep quickly without waiting. Great customer communication from the initial quote, to follow-up questions (both via email and phone) to the texts about pick-up and delivery. Always on time, and they did everything EXACTLY as we discussed. On both ends, the nice delivery men helped with the ramp and with installation of the separation panels. I found this company to be reliable and flexible. The move took over 2 weeks (bc the delivery time does not include weekends), and you get 3 days (usually more with the weekend, to pack and unpack). Just be aware-- this is a BIG freight container (much bigger than I envisioned), and be prepared to stack high, using bungees and straps (not provided). Some of our stuff shifted and fell due to our less than stellar packing method. (NOTHING broke!) We also lined the bottom with flattened cardboard boxes. I wouldn't use them. I had scheduled a move from LA to Chicago for the beginning of September over a month and a half ago. I watched all their online videos and stuff regarding the relo-cubes. Then, when I got my confirmation email I was confused because it mentioned a trailer and bulkhead separation. So this tells me it is no small cube. I called them to confirm that my driveway would be appropriate. They had told me 28 feet in the email but the driveway before reaching the sidewalk was 26. I spoke to a couple reps and the shipping center itself. Honest to God, no one could answer my questions...like I just approached them and they don't work there. I eventually wind up with a lady who is super snarky and anytime I ask a question she just sits there in silence on the phone and eventually says "I don't know". I was so frustrated I canceled my reservation and the truck was supposed to come in a few days. I went with UHaul cubes. Same thing but saved me $500 which was a nice surprise. Customer Service means a lot to me as a consumer and UPack, you just lost $2,200 because of your poor version of service. read more

Avoid this terrible company, please! I made a confirmed reservation for a UPack trailer almost 2 months ago, knowing that if I waited too long, it would be super difficult to reserve a truck and movers for my cross country move, since the city is experiencing quite an exodus right now. I thought it was one less thing to worry about. Wrong! They called me yesterday, a WEEK before my scheduled move to tell me "Oops we don't actually have a truck for you so we cancelled your order." Offered absolutely nothing as far as any alternatives or compensation. Zero help in figuring out what I could even do now on this short of notice. According to the rep, he was in the middle of making tons of these same calls, cancelling lots and lots of customer's "reservations." I guess that was supposed to make me feel better? It wasn't "F you in particular" but rather "F all of you people." I spent the rest of my day calling all over the city, finally found a different solution that's costing me THOUSANDS more than I planned. I cannot emphasize how disappointed, exhausted, stressed, and angry UPack has left me. You think you have a reservation? Think again! Save yourself a headache and DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! read more

They estimate when they will pick up and deliver, and I made appointments for all the phases of my moving, but they we late for drop off, pick up and delivery of my u-pack pod. They do don't update you explaining why they are late or communicate really what so ever. They expect full payment in order for them to pick up, but once you pay you are at the mercy of them. There is no accountability on there end. Most place do a half now and half at delivery so. I asked for money back and they refused even though they were late. They weren't even close to the estimated reliever date. read more

The service was just what I was looking for. The move plan helped me prepare, I measured the space in front of my home got the approval I needed to park the 28ft container in front of my home. The driver's all called and gave me a heads up as to their arrival. I packed my things well, they all arrived at the destination in good condition 2 days before my expected window. I should have payed for the guaranteed drop off day and express if possible I didn't realize how I'd miss my things sleeping on an air mattress got old fast. The reason I didn't give 5 star is the Bulkhead, I hated having to deal with that and the ladder is no picnic either. We moved from california to Maine. 3000+ miles. You are given 3 days (not including weekends) to load and unload. We were ticketed by the city for having a commercial vehicle in a residential area and an unmanned rig. Not sure how else we were supposed to load this 28ft trailer. Driveway wasn't long enough and we would have been crossing a sidewalk which goes against ADA regulations. We had to cut our loading time in half because california was going to come back in 48h and then remove it if we hadn't moved it ourselves. We were quoted 9-11 business day transit. It was picked up on May 14, and it was delivered June 10. Almost a MONTH. It sat at the san fernando hub for 5 days and again in PA for 3. There was no communication it was running late...there was no apology that our stuff was literally just SITTING and not moving. Their atrium doors that block off our rented area from the remaining area left much to be desired. Someone easily could have gotten in there. Sure. We had a lock but it was so flimsy! I would highly recommend finding a different moving company. It cost over 4000.00 to get our items across the country and they can't even get it there on time. read more

I moved from Austin to SF Bay area. I'd used ABF for a previous move and all went well and this move went well (scheduling, pick-up) until it arrived in the Bay. Of course I called customer service who apologized that my property was damaged and that they would be responsible for damages - just fill out the form and send it in. After waiting 4 months for a reply, I receive this letter: "I can only offer to participate in your claim based on the terms that you entered in to. Per the U-pack contract the coverage provided is $0.10 per pound. Thanks Todd Webb ABF Cargo Claims" Think of your favorite belongings and now weigh them - They are now worth $.10/pound. Unless you're moving lead bricks, it's not even worth filling out the forms. I gave Todd another chance to re-think his position, but he decided to go with the company policy. Businesses need to remember that the most important customer service happens after the sale. If you love what you're moving, find another company, or at least one who will reimburse you the loss of items broken. read more

U-Pack CANCELLED MY pod days before dropping it off for a ridiculous reason, claiming a large truck could not come to my location because I was on a private dead end street. Had the company investigated my street by a simple drive-by, they would have realized the street had a turnaround at the end for 18-wheelers. U-Pack needs to validate pickups prior to accepting orders, and if drivers are not willing to check out the location prior to accepting an order, maybe u-pack should find alternate partners or find companies that have a can-do attitude to drive fork lifts for short distances to get the job done. They will lose valuable business, and tarnish their reputation working with the 3rd party companies with surly attitudes that can't complete a job. Because of U-Pack incompetence, I hired what I thought was a substandard company last minute. Surprisingly, the other company (U-Haul) rocked it. After sending direct feedback to U-Pack's VP, I received a lame response from the Operations Manager, claiming my street was unsafe and not serviceable, and they supported the driver's decision. Meh! 18-wheelers visit this location frequently with no issues...WTF? If customers follow their processes to the T, you expect the company to do the same. First of all , thank you yelp of helping me find upack! Moving has never been fun, especially moving across states ( from Ohio to California). It's a painful process to find a trustable mover within a tight budget. I spent quite some time to finally make the decision of working with upack after seeing all the positive reviews here. I am glad I made the right choice. From the beginning of calling the customer service to the end of delivery , everything was accurate, efficient and professional. They deliver your cube and give you about three days to load. No one needs to be there for cube picking up, the same as final empty picking up. Only thing I hope they could do better is if they can pick up and deliver on weekends. They only work from Mon to Fri, so you have to plan everything ahead.
