I love it but part of me hates it. The food is outstanding. The service is wonderful. The patio is incredible on a summer night. My wife and I had a great/"fancy" meal here while our kids stayed in. My only complaint isn't necessary the fault of Two Twelve... it's more the Aspen-vibe that it invites. I like CB for CB... and this place (amongst others) are turning my beloved CB too upscale for my personal preferences. When the conversation on the patio is about "tech acquisitions", "up rounds", "health hacking", and "crypto" I get seriously sad. I loved my experience here (maybe I'm part of the problem?!) but it saddens me that CB is evolving the way it is and that is on full display here. It's the CB experience I wouldn't want for 90% of my meals but for that nice date night without the kids... 5-stars. read more

Pretentious. Pompous. Stilted. We are regulars to Crested Butte and were excited to see a new entry into the local culinary scene. Despite high expectations, we were extremely disappointed in our experience. We found that there is much about Two Twelve that is either underwhelming or grotesquely exaggerated. Atmosphere: Two Twelve is a new venue so the physical properties are still fresh and bright. The lighting, however, is harsh and brassy. This is a small footprint. Subdued lighting complemented by the wood fire would create a more inviting, intimate environment that would be more in line with the brasserie theme their menu would suggest they are attempting to create. Two Twelve opted to use booths rather than tables which limits capacity. We were seated in the booth directly across from the kitchen area which is open to the dining room. Not only is this a hectic spot but the heat from the wood fire made it uncomfortable. There was other seating available yet our request for a different booth was rebuffed with the reply, "Those are reserved. Besides, this is the Chef's Table." Now, we know that being seated at a true Chef's Table is an honor, characterized by regular visits by the chef throughout the meal to offer insight and to offer tasting samples. At no time did the chef ever grace us with his presence or knowledge. It was just a superfluous throw away line from an apathetic staffer intended to placate a customer. Drinks: Two Twelve limits its selection of wine and spirits to a handful of labels that are characterized by their ambiguity from a small collection of obscure vintners and distillers. This normally wouldn't be a problem, after all, much of the joy in culinary adventure is in exploring the novel and unique. But when the staff provides neither discernment nor insight then it is reduced to an arbitrary journey through the haphazard. Menu: The menu is a study in affectation. It strives for distinction and character but comes across as both odd and gratuitous. The dishes address the major protein groups but the composition of most strive for a deft artfulness that falls flat in the execution. The half chicken had a mole and cilantro sauce that overwhelmed rather than accompanied. Furthermore, given that we had a ringside seat to the kitchen, we observed that none of the chickens ever met the open fire. Rather, they seemed to be pre-cooked and were thrown in a convection oven for warming. Hardly the preparation on which this restaurant hangs its gourmet hat. Indeed, it is closer in practice to Burger King than in a sophisticated kitchen. Service: This is where Two Twelve fell on its sword. Our server was distressingly blasé. We couldn't figure out if she resented our presence or she believed she was just too good for her current station (we wondered if she was a French Lit major from Smith or Wellesley who could not comprehend how she had been reduced to waiting tables...) She was studiously disinterested in making our dining experience pleasant. Every time she came to our table she would affect an overwrought smile which we would watch evaporate the second her ordeal of having to deal with us was blessedly over. And twice, she walked away while we were speaking with her! We were genuinely thrilled to see Two Twelve open its doors in CB but nothing about our personal experience measured up to those expectations. We went to Prime on Elk two nights later and the contrast in food, drink, service, and ambiance could not have been more stark. We are planning to hold a personal event in CB for about twenty friends who will be flying in from both coasts. We were seriously considering Two Twelve as our venue but after such a miserable experience we could not possibly risk subjecting our friends to such an ordeal. One final thought: The appeal of Crested Butte lies in its understated elegance and absence of pretension. The Two Twelve concept runs counter to the vibe that differentiates CB from Aspen and Vail. But were Two Twelve to open in either of those more ostentatious destinations it would wither from its flawed execution. read more

The food is incredible, super healthy. We had acorn squash soup, kimchi brussel sprouts, roasted chicken and banana crème brûlée. Our kids loved the food also, they had adorable Bento Boxes. Our server Gary was so nice! The restaurant is gorgeous and very chill. read more

If you are craving a farm to table option, Two Twelve is the best restaurant in town. Their healthy fare is extensive and I highly recommend their quail, roasted carrots and salmon. The menu will change throughout the year according to the seasons. So expect a revolving menu curated on what is seasonally grown. In summer, request a table on the patio to enjoy watching all the characters in town. If you're lucky, you'll meet Tuck cruising up and down Elk Avenue. read more

Loved the crispy potatoes which reminded us of German potato salad in a good way, was roasted potatoes tossed with a mayo and mustard based sauce with dill, delicious! This was hands down the best meal my wife and I have had all year. She's usually the Yelper in our house but I keep forgetting to remind her so I'm here to say this place is incredible. We're both from major cities but living in Aspen, CO for fifteen years. We like food. When we travel, we eat. We've eaten all over the world. It's really hard to nail this type of creative food that still feels casual or authentic. A lot of restaurants, especially in destination towns with a high-net-worth crowd, try too hard to be like someone's favorite place in New York or Malibu. Their menus feel like an attempt to justify the prices; fancy pants reduction this, ethically sourced quail from local bush that, etc etc. But Two Twelve is elevated food that feels fun and kind of home-y Like you could go here on your way home from a long day at work, have one of the best meals of your life, and not feel like you should have put something nicer on. At the same time, perfect spot if you're celebrating and want to get dressed up for a special night. We went for our one year wedding anniversary on a whim and it wound up being such a wonderful, memorable meal to match the occasion. Highly recommend. There was ONE thing though..... This is a message for the owner, Jeff: "Hey Jeff, you're very nice. You have a phenomenal restaurant. But you talk too much. Like, WAY too much. We're always excited to get a quick chat with the owner of someplace we're really enjoying. You learn a bit about the place. You feel superior to the other tables. It's great. But you missed the mark. I mean, we had multiple dishes come to the table while you were there that were cold by the time we could eat them. Most of our dishes, actually. You hit us just as EVERY COURSE came out. Our frickin dessert literally MELTED in front of us while you stood there and gave us the whole "you shoulda been here in the seventies" spiel. One way conversation. Incoherent. Stories with no beginning and no end. Brutal. And that's about it. Sorry Jeff, but just hang back, go easy on the chablis, and your food will do all the work for you. This is the only less-than glowing thing I have to say about this place, but it was a big one. Lucky to get a table at this days old restaurant while in town on a getaway. We really liked the menu and it was so easy to put together a small plate feast. We shared the blue corn muffins, garlic leek soup, quail and baby carrots. All the dishes were winners, not overly complex yet interesting, subtly scrumptious. The soju/grapefruit cocktail was delicious too! A couple of downsides The service was controlled chaos...a few confused runners unsure of what food and drink went where. A couple of big tables caused a bit of a hiatus in our service but that said, our server Eric was warm and helpful so I think the kinks will work out over time. We were seated upstairs...it was a full house and so so loud. High ceilings and hardscaped EVERYTHING is the norm in restaurants these days and I wish some restaurant designer would grok that everyone sounds like a cackling witch when there's nothing to absorb sound. Crested Butte's restaurant options have been undergoing a rather dramatic 'reset' over the past two years. Several establishments closed and/or changed hands. This, along with the pandemic, led to a paucity of options along Elk Avenue. That is now beginning to change. One of the refreshing new venues is 212 (pronounced 'Two Twelve' and named for its address on Elk). It's proprietor, Kyleena Falzone, is once again applying her talents and resources to this new, and inevitably successful, establishment. Her recruitment of an accomplished chef and sous chef from elsewhere, is typical of her style of management to ensure excellence in the dining experience. Adding to that is her amazing skill at creating the visual décor that characterizes all her restaurants. 212 offers a menu of sufficient variety to meet the palate of everyone from the vegetarian to the red-meat-lover. Portions are strikingly presented and more than adequate. Several offerings are stated as designed to be shared, to include an elk, a beef, and a chicken option. I must comment on one in particular. We have all perused menus where the lowly chicken is included for either the picky eater or someone looking for the more pedestrian and modestly priced option. Let me be clear here: I have NEVER had a chicken prepared like this! A wood-fired technique, the skillful dissecting of an entire chicken onto a platter of sauce, and manner of which your compatriots can grab dark or white meat delights the eyes and the palette. All options are locally sourced. Appetizers, vegetable options, and salad/soup options are separately priced with serving sizes you're like to take home. The wine list is thoughtful and not overdone. Desserts are likewise sharable and well-done. Prices are in keeping with what we all expect for dining of this caliber. Well-behaved kids may enjoy this place, but it's really a grown-up venue where children could be awkward. read more
