It was a great time, the beer was excellent and we even ended up leaving with a growler to take home and share with friends. Everyone is always so friendly and we've never had anything that we didn't like on the menu. This is definitely one of the standard spots that we will always come to every time you make a trip to Crested Butte.

We stopped in, the place was packed, the ambience was great, and the food was just wonderful. My wife is an extremely picky eater. She ordered a chicken fried chicken sandwich, and it was exactly what she wanted. They even made her french fries extra crispy at her request. I had a chicken salad, which was phenomenal. When we arrived, we were initially told dogs weren't allowed. I explained that our dog is extremely well-behaved and simply lays quietly under the table. The hostess said that was fine and seated us at a table right next to the outdoor area. After we sat down, three different employees approached us asking whether our dog was a service animal, even though another staff member had already approved her being there. By that point, we felt singled out and uncomfortable. The final employee was particularly rude and suggested we could tie "it" to a tree if we wanted to eat there. Referring to our dog as "it" and suggesting we leave her tied outside was shocking and unnecessary. Rather than continue feeling unwelcome, we decided to order a pizza to go. We had planned to stay for drinks, appetizers, and dinner, but instead we ate in our car. The prosciutto pizza was decent, but it was much saltier than we expected. At that point, we were just hungry and wanted to leave. What was most disappointing wasn't the dog policy itself--businesses are absolutely entitled to set their own policies. It was the inconsistent communication and the way we were treated after being told it was okay to stay. Instead, the experience left us feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

We were looking for something near our hotel with a kitchen that opens late and that offers gluten-free options (for my buddy). Iron Horse Tap ended up being the place for us. They serve up American bar food and appetizers with a nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails on their drink menu. Iron Horse Tap is located inside The Plaza and has great views of Mt. Crested Butte's Peak. We were able to walk over from our hotel. It was a chilly night, so we appreciated how warm and cozy the place was. Iron Horse has a number of TVs that show various sporting events. The pizza options on the menu looked good, so order a MOB Pizza with a beer. I like to try the local beers whenever I visit a new town and Iron Horse had a selection of local Colorado beers on tap. Iron Horse Tap had a nice crowd on hand and ended up being a solid first stop for us on this trip to Crested Butte.

I came with my flight crew (just a couple of pilots in addition) and we just sat at the bar. I had the kale rotisserie chicken salad. The peanut dressing does have soy sauce so it is not gluten free, so they brought me a champagne vinaigrette instead. It was delicious. I got this during the cyclospora outbreak, because I'm a wild person now lol but they assured me they only get quality ingredients and super clean all veggies and fruit coming in. Everyday: 12pm - 1am Kitchen: 12pm-6pm (Wed-Sat) Kitchen: 12pm-5pm (Sun) The exterior alone looks like a movie set from an old Western. Inside it's a warm and cozy saloon with about 10 bar seats, high tops, booths, and a big back room with most of the seating available for patrons. Pub grub is their specialty, with the additional flare of wild game. They serve cocktails, wine, and have a nice beer menu consisting of local Colorado brews. Bellying up at this bar felt special, and when the bartender handed me some reading material about the bar's history, everything fell into place. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much of the food, but the lamb french dip was amazing! I was tossing and turning over what to order, and the bartender, Bobbie, steered me in the right direction saying this was her favorite. The sandwich was rich, cheesy, and unctuous. The bread was great, too. Gimme 10 more for the road! She told to order their famous onion rings and these are definitely noteworthy. When's the last time you ate an onion ring and it bit through cleanly? (think O shape to C shape). I feel like they could've been seasoned more, but the texture was A+. Bobbie, the aforementioned bartender, was awesome and deserves a shoutout. She worked the whole bar throughout my timely stay and was a pleasure to talk to. I love frequenting old establishments. To me, sitting inside and appreciating the history is enough. When you have local beers, great food, and good convos, the ante only ups itself. If you only have time for one stop in Leadville, make it the Silver Dollar Saloon!
