Great vegan option for dinner, they run Himalayan food out of the kitchen at this brewery now and it's dank. Several clearly marked vegan options on the menu, not "my sister found a vegan option she just ordered the cheesy beef with no cheese and no beef" like every other vegan-marked restaurant on Yelp in Gunnison county . Fried noodles were what I tried, it'll be hard to stray from that the next time I go. read more

Excellent place to stop in for a beer, or drink, after skiing or adventuring at CB. Bartender was super friendly, greeted us right away and asked us what we wanted to drink. There's an excellent beer selection with all different types which we had to take advantage of. I had the Eldo IPA, which was delicious and my husband had the study buddy, which is a coffee porter, and was also really good. The beer is brewed downstairs, and upstairs has plenty of table seating as well as lots of bar seats. We will absolutely be back to try more of the menu, and check out the food next time! read more

A brewery combined with Himalayan food isn't exactly common, but they do both well. Wide range of very good beers. Solid filling food at reasonable prices -- it's a pretty limited menu but it's got the standards. Service from both sides was excellent. Great vibe inside and out with various seating configurations. read more

Tasty selection of beer and quick service. Poor covid regulations as large clusters of maskless people clustered at the bar all shoulder to shoulder like it was 2019. Unfortunate since we enjoyed their house beers - She's a Butte (lemon vanilla sour) and Mountain Mindset (cinnamon coconut ale). Once you squeeze through the maskless crowd at the bar breathing on your beers you can get away from the crowds as there is plenty of seating in the back that is nicely spaced and cleaned regularly. We were the only one in that entire back area so that was a plus haha. read more

Not sure what happened to my original review of The Eldo, but my memories of the second story joint on Elk Street, Crested Butte, CO., remain vivid although I was last there in 2007. More significantly, the first visit was under previous management in the '80s, when Elk Street still wasn't paved, and Mt. Werner was yet to become a major ski resort. In those days CB was a sleepy mountain town in the off season, populated by aging mountain dudes who had arrived twenty years before and held down day jobs in local shops and mines, so they could spend their nights boozing at The Eldo or one of the few other tap houses open in the winter. Some of them, more bedraggled with the passage of time and suffering from their hardscrabble lives were still around. After days hiking or snowshoeing the Ruby Mountains and writing short stories, I would do as they did, hang out at the bar shooting the shit with the bartenders, waitresses and long beards. This was a comfortable sawdust floored saloon for me. Although a flatlander, I fit right in with tall tales and often found myself carousing long past midnight. If I got lucky, I would find my way back to my room at The Forest Queen in the company of a comely bartendress. The Eldo is now a brewpub. Glad that a little capital was invested to make this historic tavern and wild bunch suds palace into a sustainable enterprise. For those in the know, it will never lose its faded glory. read more

We came here on a busy holiday season night. The food was awesome! Took a bit, but understand with the crowd. Chicken dumplings were amazing! All the spices were on point! Not too spicy and not too bland- my kids ate it all happily! The beer selection was good! The owner(I assume) was very friendly and welcoming- told us the process of ordering food and drinks from the bar that can usually have a longer line- but he was very kind to get us started with our first drinks! This place is GREAT! The eldo IPA is one of the best IPAs I've had. We ordered lentil soup, samosas and the cauliflower, and I would eat all of them again. My husband is from the Himalayas, and he loved the food. They have a small outdoor area and plenty of inside seating. Good selection of games to play while having a drink- our table of 5 played Farkle. Great experience, thanks Eldo! read more

Love this concept! On site brewery and a basic menu of Himalayan food. We ordered take out on a busy holiday weekend. Got a super affordable little glass of beer while waiting for the food. Food was excellent. Would have loved to have stayed there, but seemed like a good night to eat back where we were staying. Highly recommend. read more

This must be this persons first time brewing because this beer is not good. The food is also extremely bland. At least do food or beer good if you wanna make a name for yourself. I'd much rather go to sherpa cafe if I want food from that region and high alpine for beer. Honestly surprised to see the other good reviews for this place as it's definitely a one and done for me. read more

Came here for a beer - stood at the bar trying to get service for a while. We watched the bartender intentionally serve everyone around us, including several parties who came in after us. Clearly was avoiding us even though we've never been here before. He tried serving a man next to us, who kindly pointed out we were there before him. Bartender begrudgingly served us and was condescending around our order, and threw my credit card back at me. Not sure what his problem is, but avoid this place. Also, bad beer! First time I never finished a CO brew. Only came here because everywhere else was busy, and they had space (now we know why). read more

Ok. So if you're wanting a legit pub atmosphere with friendly staff but more importantly killer brews and Himalayan food this is your joint. I can't speak for everything here but what I can say is that the Daal soup with Naan bread is a great start. Finish it off with chicken Korma, wash it down with a glass of DadBods red ale and you will be addicted to this place. Trust me. Do it. read more

Hands down the BEST and most crave-able food in the valley, especially for vegetarians/vegans!! Seriously awesome Himalayan, made with love. When we arrived, we were initially told dogs weren't allowed. I explained that our dog is extremely well-behaved and simply lays quietly under the table. The hostess said that was fine and seated us at a table right next to the outdoor area. After we sat down, three different employees approached us asking whether our dog was a service animal, even though another staff member had already approved her being there. By that point, we felt singled out and uncomfortable. The final employee was particularly rude and suggested we could tie "it" to a tree if we wanted to eat there. Referring to our dog as "it" and suggesting we leave her tied outside was shocking and unnecessary. Rather than continue feeling unwelcome, we decided to order a pizza to go. We had planned to stay for drinks, appetizers, and dinner, but instead we ate in our car. The prosciutto pizza was decent, but it was much saltier than we expected. At that point, we were just hungry and wanted to leave. What was most disappointing wasn't the dog policy itself--businesses are absolutely entitled to set their own policies. It was the inconsistent communication and the way we were treated after being told it was okay to stay. Instead, the experience left us feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

This place is a dump. It's filled with the new aged "ski bums." If you not familiar, those are rich kids from California whose parents pay for them to live in a Colorado ski town, they are better than you in every way! Most of them don't ski, but they enjoy posting about skiing on instagram. The staff are rude and incompetent. Single ply and baby laxatives in the bathrooms. read more

They specialize in live fire cooking and we were lucky enough to get a booth right across from the action as you will see in the pics. They use a mix of red and white oak to control the heat along with a series of movable grill plates. We started with a delicious Strawberry Salad that also had watermelon radish and delicate greens lightly tossed in a vinaigrette. Coming from Arizona, I had to try the Pozole and thrilled I did. The rich red broth gave light to the chili heart of this very complex liquid. The pozole had great texture and the shredded pork was tender and outstanding. An excellent example of this favorite dish. The most amazing entree was the main course. It was a shareable Half Elk Rack. While I like medium rare, when it was brought to the table, I thought it might be too rare. As soon as I tasted it, I realized it was perfection. It was so tender and the chew was great, especially on the end pieces that had an incredible bark on the outside. Elk is an extremely lean dish so to add some unctuous notes, they take Fois Gras, and as the fat renders, add huckleberries before putting it in a blender to create a heavenly base. We couldn't resist dragging every bite across the serving plate to savor the magic. As a side dish, we ordered the squash which was also perfectly roasted over the live fire and complimented the dish.

The quality of ingredients and preparation were all spot on. Bacon was triple crispy as I requested. Hash browns were made with butter, as I insisted. Eggs were cooked perfectly, neither rubbery nor slimy. Magnificent was the French toast. Served as something resembling a German log roll, it was crispy on the outside, tasty throughout, and yet remained free from being bread-y. I savored every bite of this, a real highlight. You can substitute this for the muffin for a $2 fee or thereabouts. Do that, and you won't be disappointed. Two areas that could be improved: the pancake syrup, and while it tasted fine, was definitely corn syrup based and low quality. I humbly think that the owner could easily charge $1.75 more and offer the real thing. Further, the orange juice wasn't great, acceptable, but far from a real fresh squeezed caliber. The hostess forced me to sit at the bar when tables were open. Fortunately for me, a spectacularly responsive and friendly other server rescued me, provided me a table and provided the utmost in service for a breakfast styled establishment of this ilk. She was also food knowledgeable as her husband and her own one of the truly great restaurants in town, further down the street on Elk Avenue. Pricing was just right. Location is fantastic as well. I plan to return, but may bring my own syrup and orange juice. Thumbs up for McGill's.
