Absolute 20/10 Experience! We hosted my son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner and meet-and-greet at Bonez, and honestly, everything was absolutely perfect. We had a pretty large group, but our server, Rachel, was a total rockstar. She took incredible care of us and didn't skip a beat. The rest of the staff was also extremely kind, helpful, and on top of everything the entire night. We went with the family-style fajita dinner with chicken, beef, and shrimp, and the food was delicious. Everyone kept talking about how good it was! We also opted for a drink package, and the service was so seamless that not a single person had to wait for or ask for a drink. We love this spot everytime we come to town! This time we brought a group with us and enjoyed some tequila and some amazing tacos and other options. You can't go wrong with all of the different food options they have here, the staff is always awesome and very friendly. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for drinks and some chips and salsa. It was about 3pm ... happy hour. The vibe of this place is fantastic. Like a Dia De Los Muertos vibe with a laid back twist. We were seated in a cozy little booth. Our server showed up right away. He was friendly but professional. The skinny marg was fantastic. My husband enjoyed his draft beer. We ordered chips and salsa and were delighted when it came to the table. The fresh and crunch-errific chips came with a trio of in-house made salsas. All three were sooooo good. I'd never had a pineapple habanero salsa but now I'm determined to learn to replicate it at home. I stopped by for a couple drinks with my dog and really enjoyed this spot! There is tons of outdoor seating and the servers were so sweet to my dog. My drinks came out quickly and were so refreshing. I did not try the food but it looked really good so I'll definitely return when I'm in the area again! read more

Deb and I were strolling up and down Elk Ave when hunger struck, being from Texas we hadn't had any Mexican food since we arrived in CB. We were seated promptly and quickly watered too. Our waitress was prompt with chips and three salsa's, she was very pleasant too. Deb ordered the Bonez bowl, I ordered carnitas enchiladas with rice and beans, quenched by a Colorado Lone Star (locally known as a Coors Light). The atmosphere is pleasant (at lunch)! Came in here after snowboarding on a Sunday afternoon, we were happy to see they were open around 1 PM, when many other bars in the area were not yet open. Although the sign said, fresh pressed margaritas, the bartender didn't know what we were talking about when we asked if all the margaritas on the menu were fresh pressed. Turns out they are mostly all batched. We sat at the bar and we're shocked and odd by the beautiful ambience, with a bookshelf spanning 40 feet high up into the rafters of the ceiling and Mexican themed skeletons lining the shelves high above reach. Very unique and fitting for the theme. We tried the scorpion and the El Niño, the El Niño tasted a little too sweet, although I saw him shaking it and making it in the moment, it tasted a lot like a regular juice. Also, we were given the wrong rim, but when I pointed it out and asked for the cinnamon sugar it said on the menu, the bartender swept out the cups and re-rimmed the new glass. The scorpion was the better drink, although it came batched it was light and delicious, with a real kick that many spicy margaritas don't achieve. Sadly, it slipped my mind to grab a photo! Great atmosphere with friendly service. Our party of 6 came on a Sunday night and had a 15 min wait until we were seated outside streetside patio. The group really enjoyed out queso and salsa appetizers....the pineapple salsa was a hit! Unfortunately, they didn't have avocadoes so we couldn't get the quac :( They had a busy weekend and CB is pretty remote to get frequent deliveries. We ordered Chicken Enchiladas, Fajitas and every version of the non vegan tacos across all of us and the group seemed to enjoy them. It took a significant time to get our entrees.....which I guess can be expected from time to time when a smaller town gets overwhelmed with visitors and staffing challenges. This is a lively restaurant with a cool atmosphere, I especially like the bar area with a long high communal table. The house margaritas were good, they are premixed but not too sweet. The trio of salsas was also yummy, I especially liked the pineapple one, quite spicy. You mix your own guac and I'd recommend asking for jalapenos if you like it a little hot. Our waiter was nice and we had a great time. We'd definitely go back when in Crested Butte. read more

We always plan one dinner at Bonez while in Crested. They have an incredible selection of tequila from which they make outstanding margaritas, the enchiladas and fajitas delicious, and the service is prompt and friendly. The decor is unique with the wall of books and bottles hanging from the ceiling. In particular, we recommend the carnitas enchiladas and the queso blanco to start. Yikes! First off, this building is incredible. Such a cool atmosphere with so much character. But holy cow, the food was just bad. Like chips and salsa are tough to mess up... but it was bad. The elotes tasted like warm mayo with some frozen corn thrown in. The carnitas enchiladas were very strange... slightly fruity tasting? This was a really neat place to eat at. We ate outside because the weather was so nice but the interior of the restaurant is beautiful so maybe a good option for dinner! The salsas were really good. I really liked the chipotle one but the rest of the family liked the pineapple salsa. We passed on the guac because it was overpriced AND you have to make it yourself. Anyway, the enchiladas(we got steak) were the favorite of the meal, followed by the fajitas(the sour cream and picked onions really made this dish), then the bowl which we felt we could have done without. Spanish rice and beans on the side were a good call. The staff was really friendly and helpful, our dishes came out quickly, and they checked in on us regularly. Cool vibe. Cool merch. Polite staff though not necessarily experienced, which I get, it's seasonal staff. Food was so-so. Tortilla soup was tomato based and lacked any real depth of flavor. Carnitas tacos are piled with meat, so really generous servings but the meat is overcooked and again, not a ton of flavor. Sat us near the kitchen with an open window where my 10 year old got to hear at least a dozen F-bombs from the line cooks (place was pretty empty so everything coming out of the kitchen was loud and clear. I am giving a bad review for two reasons: one is so people will check their carry out before leaving, and the other is so servers start paying attention to detail. We spent close to $100 for a simple Lunch which was very good but too much food. We asked for boxes so we could heat it up the next day in our hotel. When we heated our food we found we were given someone else's food! Suddenly there were potatoes and sausage enchiladas instead of the cheese ones I had ordered and the steak my husband got. Hugely disappointing since that was our supper! We had to settle for popcorn and crackers! Pay attention servers! For me--I will never allow a server to box up my food again! read more

Things have really gotten better at Bonez. I don't think the previous bartender that I went on a rant about in my last post is there anymore. My husband gave it another try & said the service was great & the bartender was very informative of the specials. Ive been back twice now for Taco Tuesday (Margarita & any 2 tacos for $15). Again, service was great, we did have to ask about Taco Tuesday each time, we weren't told & it's not noted on the menu. Also, if you enjoy eating Al Fresco, this time of year is great for sitting outside & theres several tables set up outside with umbrellas for shade. I also believe dogs are allowed at those tables. read more

The building and interior itself is very nice but the recipes and flavor are plain off. Service was good but it's mind boggling when ur consciously putting out simplistic food that has awful flavors. If you are craving Mexico food while in Crested Butte BONEZ is the place to go! We stopped for a quick ladies lunch date. We got guacamole and chips for an app for the table - best decision ever! We all filled up on them before our entrees came out. But we couldn't help it, it was so delicious!!! The chips came out warm so you know they were freshly made and the guacamole is customizable since you make it at your table. Two of us got bowls and one got a salad. All three were delicious. My bowl was the standard with chicken. It had a bit of spice. I think it was the rice that made it spicy. It wasn't what I was expected since I asked about how spicy the different protein options were but the waiter never mentioned that the rice had heat. I am a bit sensitive to spiciness. My friend who got the salad said she made a great choice and stated the steak was very flavorful. read more

Repeat visit based on our first experience during the height of COVID. Every fall we venture over the mountains to enjoy some fall fun in Crested Butte. We always come for a long weekend, hike, shop, wander and eat. Just like the thousand of others who enjoy the same... We had a great experience here back in 2020 and it was top of the list to repeat this year. We got in early for the blue hair special thinking we would beat the crowds but alas that's not possible in CB in the fall. The amount of outdoor seating they have added is awesome. So many big tables that can seat 8 easily were filled with couples and small families. Seems like they should do a community seating table for small groups to maximize space but that's just my hungry tummy grumbling... We sat inside in a booth, not so spacious but ok. Wait staff was sparse as expected and it was a good 10 minutes before anyone came by to acknowledge us. It was just busy... We had tacos trios or bowls and shared a guacamole with four people. The DIY guacamole is super yummy. Definitely worth a repeat. The tacos and bowls were tasty and came as ordered. We had 3 Paloma's came as expected. The tacos are stacked. So much meat. I think the downfall here was the carnitas were dry and not all that flavorful. The bowl was good! All totaled for 4 people we spent $180 for DIY guac, 6 tacos, 3 Paloma's, 2 bowls and no partridge in a pear tree. Why 3 stars? No pizzazz...staff that doesn't care, uninspired food, a lackluster experience. You just don't have many options. I wanted it to be as awesome as the first time and it left us wanting more for less. read more

We loved the food and had great service from Chloe at Bonez! The ambiance was very cool! Loved the design and ambiance. We ordered the El Niño mezcal cocktail, which we loved. We had a really tasty salsa trio as an appetizer along with the queso (delicious)! Chips were high quality. We split the 'spinach and shrooms' and I would highly recommend that order! Very interesting place but be prepared this isn't your standard red sauce and chips place. Best I can describe it is the idea of Mexican but fused with very different spices and sauces. You won't recognize it as Papacitos Mexican but come with an open mind you may be quite pleased by their recipes. Same with their eclectic mixed drink options. It was a bit spicy hot for my taste but clearly with the ambience along a creek and really cool interior it is no wonder lines can be out the door after 6:30 (we went at 4:30 with no problem getting seated).
