Great food overall. The entrees were better than the appetizers though. Good fried catfish but it had some panko breading, not quite a southern finish but considering it's 60 miles from Canada -- ain't bad. The gumbo was good but I didn't taste any okra and the rice tasted like Uncle Ben's. Excellent lamb chops. Biscuits or homemade rolls would have been better served than baguette. I liked the grilled shrimp. Some items weren't quite warm and the food took very long to arrive. Very nice ambiance. I would go back for sure when it's not so busy. read more

My fiancé was in town for work and I found this place for him based off the reviews and live music. He went in for dinner without a reservation and got a seat right away. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at this restaurant. The live music was great and he enjoyed the elk meatloaf with an old fashion! He lost the receipt and needed it for work, so we called and the manager Lisa was so so helpful! She took some information and send me the receipt within minutes, she even called back to make sure I got it. Such good customer service. We came to Whitefish to visit family and to ski. We stopped here the day before skiing on the local mountain. I ordered the Jumbalaya for my meal and the grapefruit mocktail, they were amazing! Our family knew the waiters which was great, because we got a background of the place. I love how the tables are smooth but still have texture that I love about wood. The room has exquisite lighting, it makes it seem like the restaurant is happy that we were there. I tried my father's meal, the elk meat loaf, and it was terrific too! read more

Sunday evening in July, packed restaurant, glad we made booking in advance. Service and food were great. We both had steaks, being in Montana etc! The restaurant was nice to split our shared Charred Romaine salad. It does have a lot of bacon, ask to skip if you don't want it. The dressing seems to have a bit of tapenade chunks, tasty though. The steaks were cooked nicely, medium on NY steak & medium rare on the filet. The only unfortunate thing, is a long delay between the salad & the main course. Our waitress was apologetic. read more

Great southern inspired place in the heart of Whitefish! If you're in the mood for some delicious comfort food this will definitely hit the spot. It is a nice restaurant with reasonable prices for a fancier dinner. I had the chicken and dumplings as my entree and it was delicious! Crispy fried chicken, moist dumplings, in a mildly spicy and creamy sauce! Make sure to get their bread pudding for dessert - it is by far the best bread pudding I've ever had. First off, DO NOT make reservations for this place. You'll get in sooner if you walk in and put your name down on waitlist. We had a 8 pm reservations and people who were in waitlist got in quicker than we did! We had you wait quiet a bit while watching everyone finish their meal that had no reservations. Everything was cooked to perfection. I go to some restaurants and order medium rare and it comes out medium well. They cooked to perfect temperature. Everything was flavorful and on point. We came here on the recommendation of someone on the street who heard my partner pining for steak (lol) and we were not disappointed. It was SO good. The whole menu is bayou meets Paris and it goes off flawlessly. The catfish strips (appetizer) might have been the best fried thing I ever consumed (so crispy, so good). I had the chicken and dumplings and it was such a great grown-up version - savory, hearty, and delicious. The steak was the real star of the show though. It's pricy ($56) but it's worth it. So we were seated at almost exactly 8pm, our rez time. Cool. It's waiting 1 hour for food to arrive that kinda ruined our experience. Our entrees were decent (shrimp and grits, steak and frites & mac&cheese), but the brussel sprouts we ordered as an appetizer were overly burnt and we only ate some pieces that weren't completely charred. Waited 45 minutes for our entrees. Ordered NY strip steak over medium well. The steak was well done, dry and at room temperature. Elk sliders were also served at room temperature. Had a fantastic experience here. It's dark, cozy, and classy inside. I like how they didn't overbook their tables when they knew they were short staffed. We had excellent fast service, almost a little too fast (they kept bringing out plates when we weren't finished with the others & didn't have room for them) but not a big deal. I would rather have it that way than be too slow. I loved all of the food I ordered, except the arugula salad was a little over salted and I couldn't finish it. If I were to order a salad from here again I would ask for the dressing on the side. Other than that everything was wonderful. My favorites were the shrimp & grits and the brussel sprouts. They were perfectly crispy with just enough dressing/flavor. The shrimp & grits had a Cajun flare to them but without being overly creole style. It was like traditional shrimp & grits but with a hint of Cajun seasoning to them, SO GOOD!! I felt like the portion sizes were appropriate as well. After much deliberation, we selected Tupelo as the capstone meal of our stay in Whitefish. The restaurant, which specializes in elevated Cajun and Southern fare, is dim but warmly lit, with a casual lounge-like feel. The service from start to finish was excellent, and our charming waitress paced the evening well and struck the right balance of being available but giving us space. The cocktail menu was a fun mix of tried and true (old fashioned, Sazerac, Manhattan) and outside the box, such as drinks called "Smoke and a Pancake" and "Off with her Head." I have long since forgotten which ones we ordered, but they were great and well balanced. Their menu is concise and well-organized, which made for a stress-free experience. Among the smaller plates, we shared the Sauteed Mushrooms and Tupelo Wedge salad. The shrooms were tossed in a savory and sweet sherry-truffle sauce and spooned over some thin, buttery crostini. A small but decadent first bite. The salad was absolutely huge - far more than one person could reasonably eat as an appetizer - and packed with flavor between the tangy sundried tomatoes, sharp bleu cheese, tart vinegar and pickled onions, and salty bacon. My wife's main course, the Zydeco Combo, a Cajun smorgasbord including a shrimp-and-crawfish patty, a thick and saucy crawfish étouffée, three fried catfish, three grilled shrimp, and a dollop of jambalaya, was so-so. It showcases quite a wide range of Southern classics, but the flavor and execution just fell a little flat for us. My Dry-Aged Bison Cowboy steak, on the other hand...my lord. Perfectly cooked to a luscious medium-rare, lacquered with a sticky and delicious glaze, and topped with fried shallots and blue cheese. Sweet, sharp, and salty in perfect balance, served with creamy mashed potatoes and simply prepared asparagus - a truly awesome dish. Pricey no doubt, but the quality of food, drink, and service scale appropriately. An excellent meal that we will remember fondly from our trip to Montana. read more

We had an amazing meal las evening at Tupelo Grill. We didn't have a reservation but when I called them the Hostess said to c'mon in and we'll find a place for you. We were seated at a table in the lounge area which was very comfortable along with other diners. Started the meal with a bowl of Gumbo which was savory a bit spicy,and made from a dark rue with plenty of chicken and andouille sausage. I ordered the NY Strip which was thick, juicy, tender and flavorfull, and cooked to perfection. Probably one of the best steaks I've had including popular steak houses! My wife had the Filet, also thick, tender, juicy, and flavorful. The service was also amazing and they made sure we were well taken care of. read more
