An Italian place right in the center of downtown whitefish. A little compact, but definitely feels home-y. Service was great, and very inviting. Food took a bit to come out, but was warned ahead of time. Waiter claim everything is made from scratch definitely taste like it. A little price-y but within normal range of good quality Italian place. 3.5/5 - Caesar Salad - Standard caesar salad, tasted fresh with some fresh slices of cheese on top. Wish there was more crutons maybe to add better crunch. Nothing to complain about, but nothing special to stand out. 4.5/5 - Carbonara Pizza - Perfectly cooked, with a raw egg on top. Creamy, crunchy, and very savory from the carbonara. Exactly as it states bacon is nice and crispy, with the cream finish to cut any greasiness from it. One of the better pizzas I have. Waiter also claim its their favorite and I can see why. 3/5 - Fennel Sausage Pizza - The extra cheese adds a great creaminess to the sauce. On top of it the sausage and bell pepper makes a great topping as it tasted fresh. Only complaint the bottom was very burnt. Usually I accept a certain level of burnt crust from this type of pizza, but all i tasted was burnt dough. Ruin more than half the pizza. 3.8/5 - Wild Boar Ragu - The noodles used tasted very fresh and homemade. Velvet-y and slides off the tongue and grabs all the sauce easily. The price was way higher than the rest, but flavor was more flat than expected. Very little game flavor from the wild boar which is a huge plus. For the price there are better flavors on the menu. 3.5/5 - Classic Bolognese - Despite the same plus from the pasta noodles, the sauce was another letdown. Very watery for a bolognese. Usually its thick meat sauce where the pasta can pick up the sauce with ease. However this one was very watery jsut slides off the pasta made it hard to eat it all without a spoon or something under neath to catch the sauce. Flavor was okay tasted meaty tomato sauce. The fresh, light grated cheese to put on top of the pizza was surprisingly the stand out. No more dried parmesan for me in the future. Went here with a large group for a bachelorette dinner. Overall experience was great and the service was amazing. The cocktails and wine were good, but a bit pricy. Like as expensive as some of the entrees. We started with the focaccia bread for the table and a few Caesar's. They were delicious, but fair warning the ceaser is pretty heavy on the anchovy. I did get the grilled octopus and was disappointed. Flavor was lacking and it wasn't well cooked. Entrees overall were very good and came out within 20-30 minutes. The vodka pasta was 10/10 along with the boar pasta! Highly recommend. The rib eye one of the girls got was overcooked, but she was too nice to say anything. A solid Italian dinner in Whitefish! We ordered the GF calamari, Caesar salad, fig & prosciutto pizza with GF crust, wild boar ragu, and panna cotta. The calamari was fantastic, and I was honestly shocked that it was gluten-free! I had seen people recommend it and completely agree it was delicious. The GF pizza crust was also surprisingly good, which is saying a lot because GF pizza can be hit or miss (usually more miss!). The wild boar ragu was another favorite and the pasta was really well done. The Caesar salad was good, but nothing particularly memorable. We also tried two cocktails--one coconut-based and one rhubarb-based special--and both were really fresh and enjoyable. We had a Super Tuscan and a Spanish blend with dinner as well. The service was good, and the restaurant itself is HUGE. It does get pretty loud, so it's not necessarily the spot if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dinner. The panna cotta was probably our least favorite. It was very tart, and neither of us loved it, so I'd probably skip dessert next time. Overall, I'd definitely come back for a solid Italian meal. A little spendy for what it was, which is why I landed at 4 stars, but there were some really great dishes--especially the calamari and GF pizza! read more

Reservations are a must, we went on a Wednesday and luckily we had reservations because the wait was an hour. The food was very good but the service was awful. The hostess gave us water and menus when we were seated, then it took ten minutes for our waitress to come and take our drink order. It was another ten to fifteen minutes before our drinks came. We ordered some bread and a salad while we had her there and they came right away. But then service ended, our waitress came back and took our dinner order and took our salad plates including my fork. When we got our dinner I didn't have a fork and our waitress was nowhere around so I had to get up and go to the bar and get silverware from the bartender. Our waitress never came to see how our food was or if we needed anything our entire meal, or to bother bringing silverware back. She did seem to be found when it was time to pay. read more

Very average experience for us. We can be hard critics because we are Italian-NYers who grew up making our own authentic Italian food - but I truly try to be unbiased in these circumstances being away from home on pizza, bagels, and Italian food. Still very average as far as food goes. It was very busy the rainy Sunday night we went. Waited 45 min for a table. We were sat in the back almost patio like area. The inside was beautiful! Fancy, nice, we were probably a little underdressed. Even a fancy shirt and jeans would be fine but I was wearing sweatpants and a sweater because we were exploring in the rain prior to getting back for dinner. Food: Started with calamari piccata ($19) and foccachia. Calamari was very lemony, which I love, but it was very salty. Foccachia ($8) was fresh! But very plain. I got rigatoni alla vodka ($26 meatless) and my husband got the wild boar ragù ($34). Mine was very plain. My husband said the pasta was good for his but also sauce was salty. Bland but salty was the overall taste for our meal. Quality didn't equate to the pricing. Toddler friendly: They did have a kids menu, highchair, crayons and coloring paper for toddler. My toddlers pasta Alfredo came out like a good 10 minutes after our meals, which anyone with a toddler knows is a nightmare. So I ended up having to feed half my meal to him before he got his to keep him from having a hangry meltdown. Waitress took the foccachia off our bill for waiting which was generous. The food is one of the best tasting restaurants my husband and I have had. The Caesar salad had a homemade dressing that was delightful. I had the in house pasta with bolognese sauce (pork and veal) and my husband had the special which was gnocchi in a white truffle sauce. They were both outstanding. Came here with my entire family while on vacation, and it was a fantastic choice for a nice night out. We started with a few appetizers our waitress recommended: the cauliflower, caprese, and meatballs. The cauliflower was easily the standout dish of the entire meal, absolutely incredible. The caprese was both beautiful and delicious, and the meatballs were excellent as well. For our entrees, I split the wild boar pasta and the rigatoni alla vodka. Both were 10/10, and I honestly couldn't decide which I liked more. Overall, it was an amazing meal with outstanding food and a great atmosphere. The only downside was that it was pretty loud inside, making conversation a little difficult at times. Even so, I'd definitely recommend it and would happily come back. read more

My husband ordered the wild boar ragu and it was terrible. First off the oder was very off putting. We get it wild boar but we figured at this high end restaurant it could have been better. I got the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. For 26 dollars, I expected a lot a better. Sauce was tasteless and the portion was shockingly small. I counted 14 Rigatoni total. It's not often that I go to a restaurant and leave feeling scammed, but after leaving here I did. The ambiance is nice, and if you money to waste on overpriced mediocre pasta perhaps it's a good choice. If you go to restaurants to get something better than you can make at home, this is not the correct choice. read more

We came back--and we're so glad we did! I was really excited to try their homemade pasta since we missed out on it during our first visit. It absolutely lived up to the hype--nothing beats fresh, homemade pasta, and the sauce was incredibly flavorful and unique, definitely not your standard red sauce. We always stop into Abruzzo when visiting Whitefish, and this time was no different. While our visit was alright, we've had better meals and dining experiences at Abruzzo... To start, they were slammed (glad we had a reservation) and it was so loud in the restaurant... We could barely hear each other from across the table. Add in the drunk, loud, foul-mouthed California yuppies sitting behind us making a scene (whilst all dolled up like they're auditioning for a Yellowstone episode for Taylor Sheridan), and we were annoyed from the start. As for the food, we shared the calamari piccata and Cesar salad for starters, and both got the pasta with meatballs. The calamari was just ok (it was too heavy and greasy for our liking), the Cesar salad was excellent, but unfortunately neither of us loved our mains. The meatballs were way to heavily seasoned with black pepper and they had another spice in them that we just didn't mesh (not sure if it was thyme or sage, but it gave the meatballs a funky flavor that we didn't like). On a positive note, our server was great... Friendly, attentive, and prompt. Overall, Abruzzo wasn't bad but just not as good as usual. read more

This was one of my favorite restaurants to dine at during my trip to Whitefish. We made a reservation in advance for dinner on Sunday, and I'm glad we did since it was packed even though the restaurant is pretty big. We parked at the parking garage a block away and walked over to the restaurant. We had a large, comfortable booth that had a view of the pizza oven. The restaurant is dark and cozy inside. Our party split the local greens as well as the cauliflower starter. Everyone loved the cauliflower dish more, even though the local greens dish wasn't bad either. For my entree, I ordered the Rigatoni All'Amatriciana but I also tried the Roasted Chicken risotto. Honestly, these two dishes worked so well together. I liked my pasta dish, but the risotto was so creamy and the flavor was awesome. read more

Raise the prices if you want, but F**ck you for an undisclosed 3% charge I never agreed to. I don't care how good your food is, I won't be back. Edit: it appears the charge was disclosed on the menu. In small type. Never mind. We live in a credit society. If you want to accept credit cards, either absorb the charge or change your prices to cover it. Otherwise what am I to do? What a wonderful Italian spot in downtown Whitefish! We've heard it gets quite busy but were able to get seated immediately at 515pm on a Monday - but by the time we left, they were definitely on a wait list. We started with two cocktails - which were delicious and refreshing after a day of hiking. Then for appetizers, we started with the elk tartar and the crab and tomato salad. The elk tartar was exceptional - hearty, salty and such fun treat. The crab was okay - but the star of that show was the heirloom tomatoes. They were so vibrant, flavorful and clearly very fresh. For entrees, we split the wild boar ragu and the gnocchi special - which was truffle. The ragu was truly the best - it was hearty, flavorful and tasted like it had been cooking all day. The gnocchi was great as well - they actual gnocchi was a bit big for me, but I like that it was also pan seared to have a bit more texture. The truffle of course was decadent. Our server, Eliska, was great! I would highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a nice dinner in Whitefish. read more

Decent Italian food. We visited Abruzzo Italian Kitchen on a Tuesday night, and it was about a 25 minute wait for a table of 4. There are two sections of the restaurant: the original space and a pseudo-outdoor addition which we sat in. The pseudo-outdoor space is fun with string lights on the trees and draped from the ceiling. The original space is more dark with western art on the walls. I tried the whitefish melonaire 'rita to drink, we split the cauliflower and calamari picatta as starters, and I tried the mushroom bianca pizza as a main. The whitefish melonaire 'rita was watery, weak, and bland. The cauliflower had a lovely lemony flavor. The calamari picatta was okay but was a bit on the bland side. The pizza was served hot and had a good crust and tasty mushrooms. The sauce and cheese were on the bland side however. Overall, I think there are better dining options in Whitefish than Abruzzo Italian Kitchen. read more

The vodka sauce was not vodka sauce - it tasted like tomato sauce, cream and parm. Where's the spice? And it should have a hint of sweetness. The music fit the vibe perfectly, and even though the restaurant was full, it somehow still felt comfortable and relaxed rather than crowded or overstimulating. The service was excellent as well. When we were planning our trip to Whitefish, a friend told us this was the best Italian restaurant he'd ever been to. He was in the restaurant business and I thought surely he'd oversold this. Nope! THE CAULIFLOWER...one item that will surely get me back to visit and it's the star of the show! They have such a nice twist in Italian cuisine and our party appreciated it!
