Delicious creole-inspired food! We visited Tupelo Grille on a Monday night, and it was about half full. The restaurant has a dark interior with a beautiful ornate ceiling and paintings on the walls. I tried the sazerac to drink, we split the duck confit poutine and brussel sprouts as starters, and I ordered the fried green tomatoes and eggplant as a main. The sazerac was abysmal and tasted watered down. The duck confit poutine was okay but did not have the most appealing presentation. The brussel sprouts were excellent. The fried green tomatoes and tomatoes were absolutely scrumptious with a perfect blend of flavors. Overall, I think there is a lot to like at Tupelo Grille, and I would recommend them for dinner in Whitefish. read more

We've been going to Tupelo since it first opened. It's changed hands over the years which means the menu and food quality have also changed a lot over the years. The food was so good a couple of years ago. They had a pork chop that was amazing and a meatloaf that was outstanding. They still have these items on the menu, but they've completely changed them and are just not good anymore. The best things on the menu right now are the biscuits and a brat and cheese platter. I would suggest sitting in the bar, listen to music and just have these two items and finish it off with the bread pudding. The service was the best we've experienced all week in whitefish. Celebrated my wife's birthday there tonight. The food was perfect. Every detail was dialed in, from the biscuits that were hot and fell apart in your hands because they were so soft, to the special shrimp salad, to the poutin with duck confit that had a generous portion of duck meat and cheese, all the wait to the shrimp and grits that was the best I've had (and I spent 4 years in Baton Rouge!) The decor contains tin ceiling tiles, brick walls, lots of dark stained wood and eclectic art on the walls. The vibe is cool and special. The wait staff was attentive and great about presentation of specials. We ordered crawfish and shrimp cakes with remoulade and celery leaves. This was amazing with the slaw enhancing the appetizer. Reward your taste buds and order this dish. The beet salad had whipped feta, hazelnut brittle, and preserved lemon vinegarette. Again flavor was salty, peppery but could of used a hint of sweetness like candied pecans for crunch. Our entree was the crusted trout filet with veggies in a hazelnut / citrus brown butter. The crusted trout was good and the veggies were perfectly done but the flavor was minimal. The ambiance here is great. You expect a very special meal is this very nice venue. We tried an array of things: Cocktails: affordable housing, Aperol Spritz , old fashioned the Smokey Smokey whiskey flight. They were all wonderful. Wow! This is a Fantastic Restaurant in 'downtown' whitefish. We started with a lot of questions about the cocktails, and the waitress got some additional info from the bar tender. Then, when we ordered drinks, we got an extra one! The waitress said the bartender (Alec) wanted to make sure we were happy with our drinks. And were we ever! The drinks we ordered were great and the extra one we fought over! We got the daily special appetizer-- wild mushrooms cooked in a cream sherry sauce and served over crostini with a little greens and truffle oil. They might have been the best mushrooms we've had! My partner got the 14 oz rib eye, cooked medium rare. The steak has a crispy crust. It melted in your mouth. The onion fig sauce was delicious. I had the blackened shrimp with grits. They were the best shrimp and grits I've ever had, there was a cream cheese jalapeño sauce that I was a bit suspicious of, but that made the dish. If I lived here in Whitefish, I would likely be here so often that they would put my name on a table. My wife and I came here per a recommendation from our local friends, who consider this their go-to. Like many of the establishments here, it has a feel that tells you it's been here for a long time, and seeing all the other people here, it's definitely a favorite for many others. The decor is warm and inviting--wood-lined everything. The place is built for large parties or intimate dates; you have seating for every situation. This night, it was a party of two, looking for something darn delicious. What we ordered had us screaming for MORE. Even after we couldn't eat another bite, we considered cramming it down--that's how good it was. We had the Hot Fried Chicken Sliders, which had just the perfect touch of spice, great flavor, and were cooked perfectly because they were juicy in every bite. I had a vegetarian dish, the delicata squash dish, which had wild rice and all sorts of vegetables everywhere. Was it cooked tender? Yes. Seasoned well? Yes. Delicious? Yes. My wife had the Elk Meatloaf, which was a beautiful beast of a meal. It was a SLAB of food--massive. It was also DELICIOUS. Tender, juicy, with potatoes and a glaze that would induce even the stiffest lip to want to lick the plate. Sure, we were already full, but we went overboard and got the bread pudding... and it was a massive portion. Golly, we muscled through it and gave up because, well... we were satisfied. Waitress was very good, prompt service and friendly. Ordered the tuna poke for our appetizer and the shrimp and grits for dinner. Asked the waitress to pick between short rib and shrimp and she said shrimp was amazing. So turns out she was right! Tuna was good, seared and served over a delicious rice cake thingy. Was yummy I used to eat shrimp and grits at a place in the middle of nowhere South Carolina, and it was the best I've ever had. Was the first one I ever had too. So I always compare them to that place. Tupelo was as close as anyone has gotten. Plump shrimp covered in sauce over a grit cake. Was just delicious On the way out I noticed the bar had several bottles of Blood Oath bourbon! I returned on Saturday night to have some of that bourbon. A flight of all 3 pacts, 7.8.9 was $100 for an ounce of each. They were exactly as I would expect, oaky and full of flavor. I added a Caesar salad and the special, a 16oz Montana ribeye to them and it was a night I won't soon forget. Ceaser salad was good, had anchovies which is a must for me. Steak was ordered medium rare and delivered perfectly medium rare Covered in maitre d butter it was out of this world. Fresh steak makes all the difference. Quite possibly the best restaurant I've been to in 2025. This place is very popular. We were here in the off season and it was still difficult to get a reservation. I'm so glad we chose this place for our special occasion dinner because everything is absolutely perfect. The staff here is excellent. Prompt efficient service. It's clear they care about everything being to their customer's satisfaction. We ordered the must try Biscuits. The best value on the menu at only $4 for two. Absolutely fabulous. Best biscuits I ever remember having. If only you could get a side of honey to go with them. We ordered the soup of the day which was clam chowder. Excellent soup. It wasn't overly thick or creamy. It was just perfect. Huge bowl was only $14. My other half ordered the pork which was $39 and she described as the most tender pork she ever had. I got a fish special which was Halibut. Best Halibut I ever had. Both dishes were exquisitely presented and had perfect accompaniments. Both were HUGE. We all know the fancy restaurant that has great food but tiny portion. This place has the same great food but an enormous portion. We were way too full for desert so we got the bread pudding to go and ate it for breakfast the next day. My favorite restaurant in Whitefish, which says a lot considering how many fantastic options there are downtown. I get the ribeye every time, but I think the sides change sometimes? Their hush puppies are the best I've ever had, and I've had a LOT of hush puppies in my 36 years of life lol. French onion soup? Delish Elk meatloaf?? Incredible, and not the least bit gamey. Absolutely spectacular food at service at Tupelo Grille. Even in season the fine(r) dinner dining options are somewhat limited in whitefish. This spot has something for everyone on the menu. We came off season and had great service. Our waitress was attentive and informational. I had the scallops which were seared so well. Totally perfectly browned but not rough at all. I hadn't water red meat in a few years, so when my friend asked me to try their elk meatloaf I was skeptical, but holy cow was it amazing. I went back for a second bite and totally it totally blew my mind. Was served with whipped potatoes and some kind of gravy- both wonderful. I was happy to see that they had a Riesling on the menu and it wasn't dry, could definitely smell the floral notes. Desserts were all heavily- we got the huckleberry tart which was sweet but not too sweet, served with ice cream. The bread pudding was maybe a little less traditional than I am used to but still really good, served with a Chantilly cream. Will 100% return when I come back to whitefish. read more

I certainly agree with all other reviews that the food is outstanding, and most others that the service is a bit lacking. Our server was friendly enough, but spent a fair amount of time chatting with regulars and the band that had come in to play rather than checking if we needed to order anything else or were ready for the check. It is also odd that they stop dinner service and close relatively early. We didn't feel rushed exactly, but we didn't feel like we could relax and hang out either. The live band was excellent, but keep this in mind if you are looking for a quieter dinner out. We had the option of sitting in the other room, but I didn't think it would be much quieter and was game to see local music. My boyfriend was skeptical about a place in Montana with Cajun/Creole influence, but ate his words. The elk sliders with cajun chow chow is one of the most creative, flavorsome things I have ever eaten. The arugula salad was actually quite a good deal with a generous amount of greens and fresh, high quality ingredients like watermelon radish, fennel, and roasted pine nuts. We shared the 8 oz filet and the bourbon coffee demi was so rich and satiating, I didn't mind that we were splitting a smaller cut of meat.
