Ambiance ok - small but cozy, not fancy. Service excellent. Steaks run you 25-50 depending on cut but was absolutely delicious. Spaghetti with steak unique but tasted ok. The steaks are served with little seasoning but you can ask for steak sauce or steak seasoning if you require a little more spice. My only complaint is the cost of alcohol. 3 amaretto sours and 2 Old Fashioned's came to a total of $80.00. While servings were a good size and drinks tasted good, that's $16.00 a drink. We were a little gobsmacked by the bill but couldn't argue it because we didn't ask cost nor for a drink menu when we ordered. I realize dining out is crazy expensive these days but $16.00 a drink? Lesson learned for us, but man that put a dent in the dining experience and excellent service and we walked away feeling a bit ripped off. Worst filet mignon I have ever had I don't say this lightly, but this was honestly one of the worst meals I have ever had at a steakhouse. I eat A LOT of filet mignon, so I know what I expect from this cut of beef, especially when I am paying $44 for an 8 oz filet. The filet came with garlic toast, a side salad, and a bowl of spaghetti for the table. I also added a side of mashed potatoes for another $5. I ordered my filet medium, just like I always do, and while it did come out medium, it was completely dry with absolutely no juice. Even after adding a liberal amount of salt and pepper, it was unbelievably bland. I have never had a filet mignon that I needed to put steak sauce on just to be able to chew and swallow it...EVER. At first I thought maybe I had just gotten a bad filet, but my husband's was the same way. For $5, I expected the mashed potatoes to at least be real potatoes and a decent-sized serving. Instead, they tasted like instant potatoes and the entire serving was about the size of one small ice cream scoop. Then I tried the spaghetti, hoping the sauce might be amazing. If that wasn't Ragu or something extremely similar, I would be shocked. There was nothing about it that tasted like the kind of homemade sauce I was expecting. The rest of the menu and experience were disappointing as well. There was no bread brought to the table, there were no appetizers on the menu, and we were told none of the desserts were made in-house. What was especially strange was that the lady at the table next to us ordered salmon. Salmon was nowhere on the menu we were given, nor was it ever mentioned or offered to us. Apparently there were options available that we had no way of knowing about. Even the presentation of the filet was disappointing. It came out on one of those old-style metal hot plates that reminded me of the plates Mexican restaurants used to serve enchiladas on. Our waitress also never asked us to cut into our steaks to make sure they were cooked correctly, which is something I normally expect when ordering steak at a steakhouse. The one genuinely good thing I can say about my meal was the house-made ranch dressing on the side salad. It was very good. The garlic toast was fine, but certainly not enough to make up for everything else. I was incredibly let down. I went in expecting an amazing filet mignon, especially with the advertised Montana beef, and this was absolutely not it. Let me make this brief. I ordered a $44, 8 oz. filet, then added the $5 mushrooms and $5 mashed potatoes. At that point, we're comfortably north of fifty bucks for a steak dinner, so I foolishly assumed flavor would be included. Narrator: It was not. I'm pretty sure the mashed potatoes were instant. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against instant potatoes. I've eaten plenty of questionable food in my life. But if you're going to charge me $5 for a Furr's Cafeteria-sized scoop of potatoes, they should at least be thick enough to stay on the fork. These appeared to have been prepared with the recommended amount of water, plus a little extra for good measure. They did come with a pat of margarine, though, so apparently somebody in the kitchen was feeling fancy. Still, they were so bland I had to salt them. Then came the mushrooms. I can't prove they were boiled instead of sautéed, but I can say with confidence that no mushroom willingly gives up that much of its personality without being interrogated. More salt. The spaghetti sauce was an interesting choice as a side for steak. It tasted suspiciously like Ragu. Nothing necessarily wrong with Ragu, but if I wanted grocery-store spaghetti sauce with my $44 filet, I could have stayed home and eaten it standing over the sink. And then there was the steak. Folks, I had to SALT THE FILET. More. Salt. I almost never salt my food, and at this point I was seasoning this meal like I was trying to preserve it for the winter. This was quite possibly the most boring, flavorless, dry filet I have ever eaten. A filet is supposed to be tender, juicy, and flavorful. This one had all the personality of a conference-room chair. I genuinely started wondering about the rave reviews. Did we eat at the same restaurant? Did you actually taste your food? Are some of you just chewing mindlessly while thinking about your 401(k)? I'm not a food snob. I'm really not. I had better meals in the Army, and Uncle Sam wasn't charging me $44 for the privilege. But I do expect value for my money. When you cram me into what feels like someone's living room converted into a dining hall, make me wait 45 minutes for a steak, give me no bread or starter, have two obviously overworked servers covering what seemed like ten tables each, and then hand me a premium-priced steak that requires emergency seasoning, we have a problem. Maybe I'm spoiled by The Capital Grille or Morton's. Fine. Guilty. But if you're going to charge steakhouse prices, eventually somebody is going to expect a steakhouse experience. Linen would be nice. Attentive service would be nice. Bread would be nice. Seasoning would be revolutionary. There was, however, one shining beacon of culinary excellence: The ranch dressing. That ranch was good. The salad was good too. Yes, I salted the salad, but I ALWAYS salt my salad. I mention this because apparently tonight I was personally responsible for the restaurant's sodium distribution program. So, my friends, if you find yourself up this way, I have an alternative recommendation. Grab some charcoal. Stop at the bougie Safeway in Whitefish. Pick out a couple of nice filets. Head to the park. Grill them yourself. You'll probably spend less money, get a better steak, enjoy more elbow room, and Mother Nature won't make you wait 45 minutes for a table. But if you absolutely must go to Spencer's, come prepared. Bring Montreal steak seasoning. Maybe some garlic. Possibly a salt lick. Because based on my meal, disappointment is the only thing they serve already seasoned. read more

The steak was good, but not exceptional. The service was not very good. The waitress was sullen, rarely came by the table, and when she did she would leave before we could get a word out. We asked for steak sauce, she never brought it. I don't think I've ever been to a steakhouse that didn't offer baked potatoes. The only potato option was $ 4.00 for a small bowl of mashed potatoes that tasted like they were instant. According to the menu, each dinner was supposed to come with a side of spaghetti. There were three meals ordered and only one small bowl spaghetti was brought to us. I tried the spaghetti and let's just say that a jar of Ragu would have been better. But we figured let's try it. Smaller place - nothing fancy. We did have good service. 2 days an ordered steak and 2 of us the grilled pork chops. We all had mashed potatoes as our side as they don't have many options. The steaks were very bland - no seasoning. So they had to add salt and pepper to give it any flavor. The pork chops were dry. Wow! We were looking for somewhere for dinner our last night in Glacier National Park. We looked at reviews and decided that Spencer & Co. was the place for us. Right off the bat our hostess was so welcoming. Even with our all day of hiking and still having our hiking clothes on. She was so friendly. The very first thing when we ordered drinks I got Jack on the rocks and the pour was so generous. I knew we had chosen the right place. We all ordered ribeye steaks and everyone said their steaks were delicious even though they didn't have a lot of seasoning. They tasted like beef. Yes there was spaghetti served family style brought to our table and we could have as much as we wanted. But we knew that from the reviews. So it wasn't bad. The spectacular finish to our meal was the chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and dark chocolate icing that we learned is from a local business. I ordered coffee to go with my dessert and it was on the house. I don't think anyone has reviewed this place recently on Yelp so here you go. Don't skip this place because of 1 year+ reviews. We ordered a Spencer steak rare which was cooked perfect. Charbroiled on outside but rare inside. So good. Comes with spaghetti with a red suace which is very good. We had a bottle of cab from California which was great and reasonably priced.. People that did not like it are ones with broken taste buds do to vegan crap. Others that said overcooked must be idiots that don't know how to order. Yes this is old school how the restaurants should be. No chain crap joints. Salad was awesome not some hairy crap that rabbits wouldn't eat. Best place we have had in North Western Montana. Should be ten stars. So I grew up in Butte MT which had a huge Italian community that made the supper club concept very popular. I was so happy to find that Spencer's is one of those type places...think multiple courses featuring spaghetti and steak as the main course. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and on the old school metal and wood steak plates. A great salad was offered to start it off and the spaghetti was fantastic. It offered me a nostalgic trip back to the fancy restaurants of my youth, but this place is less pretentious, and just as cosy. Drinks were stiff and a generous pour. However, we were totally underwhelmed. We were there about an hour before closing (does every restaurant in Kalispell close at 8PM?). The waitress was friendly but had way too many tables. There was no bus boy, so tables had dirty dishes on them for quite awhile which made our wait a bit longer. The food was not very good. It costs EXTRA for mashed potatoes. I had a steak that came with spaghetti as a side. The spaghetti is not good. I also had a salad. The salad was absolutely DOUSED with dressing. Spencer's is the best steak in town. I typically order the sirloin because the cut is one I like and it's not a huge, overwhelming steak. Melted in my mouth this last time. I couldn't remember a steak being so tender. This is the third or fourth time I have been to Spencer's and I usually leave very full and a little boozy, due to the full bar and old-school, dinner club atmosphere. It's fun! What can I say. Probably one of the worst food experiences we've had. They said the wait was 30 minutes but it turned into over 1.5 hrs. Then we finally get sat down only to then wait even more for our terrible food. Overcooked fish in a foil pack, like 3 cups worth of spaghetti with only about a cup of sauce that tasted like it was out of jar. Not even the salad was composed nicely. For a restaurant that doesnt bother to have different sides you would think they would have it set up so that a small piece of fish would come out in 10 minutes or less. A woman at the end of our meal came to ask how it was to what I expressed my dissatisfaction so she sent a dessert with the waitress that slapped it on the table and said "Happy Anniversary" even though it wasnt of course. An invitation to Spencer's Steakhouse seemed like a good thing to do for  dinner with friends.  We were seated promptly and the lady who took care  of our table was friendly and efficient.  My wife and I frequently order  two different things with the intent to share.  We ordered a seafood  salad and a porterhouse steak. After talking to our waitress about how meat is cooked at Spencer's, we  ordered our steak medium rare on the rare side. The porterhouse arrived and was the thinnest piece of meat I have seen  served in a reputable restaurant.  This is a $35.00 steak advertised on  the menu as a 20 ounce steak.  There is no way that this skinny little  steak weighed 20 ounces.  Our request for medium rare on the rare side  came out medium at best, a serious disappointment. We were the only ones to order the porterhouse and the other orders  looked fine. I will not likely return on my own and if I do, the $15.00 hamburger  might be the best bet.  Don't order the porterhouse. read more
