The service was the highlight of dinner. The food quality was ok. I ordered the ribeye steak (sauce on the side) and as you can see in the photo it did not look like a ribeye (missing the most important cap/lip). The ice cream scoop of garlic mash was very chunky and lacked garlic (I should have ordered the baked potato instead). Filet mignon was over cooked and it was a size of a credit card so if you want something small there you go. The best looking and portion size was the New York. They do not offer any beer on tap. Not impressed. It took over an hour to get our food and the food wasn't hot. Some steaks were good and others were not.

Went here with party of 10 for New Years Eve. Place wasn't busy and it took 1hr 45mins to get our food and we had to go ask 2x to get drink refills. Food was pretty good (nothing to brag about, especially for the price and small portions); steak was good, but mashed potatoes are cheap and only given a tiny scoop. The mixed vegetables were mushy and only a spoonful. Service was nothing to rave about; slow. We were placed at 3 round tables pushed together; not ideal for a large party. We were charged 20% automatically for service that was definitely not worth 20%. Won't go back here again. read more

A Fine Dining Experience in Need of Fine-Tuning This restaurant has anchored the Valley's dining scene for years, and in a part of town where options are scarce, it's been a lifeline. The food is still its strongest asset -- when it finally arrives, it's good. But my recent visit with a large party exposed several issues that undercut the fine dining experience it promises. The Space The place needs a remodel. There's charm in patina, but this has crossed into neglect. Window coverings are literal bedsheets hung with thumbtacks. About a quarter of the light fixtures were burned out, leaving the dining room dim in a way that feels forgotten, not atmospheric. The menus are falling apart, and several listed items weren't available. The wine bar seems to be a newer addition -- clean, modern, promising -- which gives me hope for what the rest could be. Large Party Setup For groups, the seating is awkward. Multiple round tables shoved together make conversation split in odd, unnatural ways. A few square tables that actually connect would fix this overnight. Service Speed One hour and forty minutes. For food to arrive. Then another twenty-five minutes between the first plate served and the last. The final guest ate alone while everyone else had long finished. This isn't "fine dining pacing" -- it's a kitchen that's overmatched. Either limit seating to what the kitchen can handle or expand staff and capacity. Right now, fewer guests would mean a better night for everyone. Dietary Accommodation One guest needed dairy-free, egg-free, meat-free options. The kitchen offered a plain baked potato. That's it. A plate of lettuce was suggested but politely declined. Any restaurant charging fine dining prices should manage one solid plant-based entrée -- dairy-free pasta, a vegetable main, something beyond starch and sadness. The Opportunity I remember when this place opened -- it was special. The bones are still there: good food, prime location. But as the Valley grows and competition increases, guests expect food, service, and atmosphere to work together, especially at these prices. A few targeted updates, a smoother service plan, and some basic menu flexibility could make this one of the Valley's best again. The potential is obvious. Enjoyed our meal here when I dined in October! Arrived right when they opened since I didn't have reservations and was able to be seated. Heard from our Airbnb host, you'll have to get there early or have a reservation. Inside has an old Christmas cottage vibe to it. Kinda dark with Christmas lights along the fireplace and around the entire restaurant even though it was October. It's quite charming. The free rolls they give out while you wait for your food was ok. They're just basic rolls with butter. Food wise, we got the cocktail shrimp. Was pleasantly surprised since there's no ocean around. The texture of the shrimps was firm and had a nice bite to them. Prime rib - not too bad! Got a medium rare but felt it could have been a little more rare. You have a choice for a side and I chose a baked potato. Comes with butter and sour cream. For an 8oz. cut the price was definitely not bad for it at all! They have bigger cuts but 8 oz. was plenty for me. Lastly, got the exotic trio plate. The plate was pretty meaty and everything was pretty good. Comes with duck, quail and Buffalo filet. Don't even THINK about this place! We had eaten there many times before the new owner (Ms. Peterson) took the reigns. Tonight we went to celebrate our anniversary and use a gift certificate we had been given by friends. We were told the new owner would NOT honor the older gift certificate, in CLEAR violation of Montana law. We won't be back. You screwed up, Ms. Peterson. BIG TIME. The ambience was great and the service friendly. However, we must have caught them on a bad evening! There were only 20 people in the restaurant. The server took our drink order, served that, and then took our food order. The salad arrived - mine looked and tasted 2 days old - wilted and wet. She kept coming back to say that various things I'd ordered were not available - not all at once but over a period of minutes. When the food DID arrive it was NOT HOT! And, she served the wrong side with my husband's meal. Each of these was no big deal, but put all together, it was a rough evening! Who would also believe that you could fresh seafood in Montana? Our friend had Halibut she said it was delicious. We shared a Shrimp Cocktail that I could eat for every meal. Again that horseradish. I know it's good when my eyes are watering. I still didn't have enough shrimp so I tried some fried, again light and delicious. The baked potatoes could have been fresher. Make sure you have any desert. We tried all of them and they were all wonderful. The service was great. The ambiance e was a little schmaltzy. Decorated with white Christmas lights strung throughout. We have been going to Jagz for a number of years and the restaurant has gone down hill in the last year or two. We decided to give it one last try last night and were very disappointed. Service was poor in that was only one waitress. She was great, we felt sorry for her. We both ordered the rib eye, hoping to get the "Best Steak in the Valley". My wife's steak was overcooked, but she did not want to return it. I did return mine, which I rarely do. I ordered medium rare and specifically told the waitress I'd rather have it more rare than medium. It arrived medium and tough. I returned it and received a thin, very fatty piece of meat that only tasted like the sauce. The vegetables were barely warn and tasteless. The baked potato was also barely warm and had a big chunk of butter in the middle that was not melted. Big disappointment, we don't mind paying the price for a good steak, this was not that. After seeing their website I expected a bit more upscale but this is a diner style steak place frequented by locals. Lots of beards, baseball caps and checkered flannel. I had Caesars salad, clam chowder, prime rib with mashed potatoes and some run-of-the-mill steamed veggies I didn't touch. Ok food but I had better. Service was so-so. In Kalispell with friends for a short break that encompasses one birthday and one anniversary. This was the restaurant chosen for the birthday and what a fantastic choice it was. Picture a steakhouse restaurant back a couple of decades when folks cared more for the flavor and experience than the calories and trends. This is Jagz! Fabulous King Salmon with a Chardonnay cream sauce, King Crab legs, a massive pork chop swimming in an apple brandy cream sauce so rich it could have been the meal itself, and a senior prime rib for the only one who could restrain himself at the table. The question being, how were these decadent meals? One word can sum them all up... FAN-FLIPPING-TASTIC! So much so, we're returning next week! If you only enjoy the trendy or bland foods of today or if you are on a strict low-calorie diet, this place may not be for you... however if you occasionally yearn for comfort foods of days gone by, the rich, artery clogging, flavor filled, politically incorrect foods of yesteryear, this place should be next on your list! read more

Have taken time to write this because so disappointed. We have been loyal customer of Jagz all the way back to when they were Black Angus on Hwy 2. Took my family there in December and this is what we were served. Clams bland lacking garlic & white wine, Caeser salad watery little or no dressing, angel hair pasta over cooked and dish can out looking like slop, Ribeye steak under seasoned ordered A1, duck overcooked sauce bland lacking rich red wine sauce known for, stuffed backed with works came with nothing but a 1/4 cup of sour cream, garlic mashed not mashed used forks to cut potatoes, cold vegetables, hamburger ordered medium came out well done. Meals ordered - 2 duck, one hamburger, two pasta, one steak. Owner was serving had to ask for silverware after appetizers, water refills, butter for bread. We have went to Jagz for the past several years. This time was not great. Bread was dry, salad dressing was right out of the bottle , not good , steak burned outside rare inside- I think it made me sick or maybe the sour cream butter mix on my potato , but I got sick. Anyhow something has changed and we won't be back. On top of everything else they seemed to raise prices which would have been ok if the food was great - it was not . Son had chicken that was tough - will dine elsewhere. Best thing served was the water and bottled wine - the water gal was on it. read more

Came here to take a friend to dinner for her birthday and we've heard a lot of great recommendations to try it. By the look from outside it doesn't do it any justice. We made reservations for a Friday night. We arrived at our scheduled time and it's a lodge type decor with a roaring fire and two levels of seating. They sat us up top by the window with a nice view of the mountains. Their menu is very nice. My husband opted for the game platter, I don't know if that's what it is called but it had buffalo, pheasant and quail I chose a filet mignon. Our guests had steaks too. Our waitress was efficient and friendly. Our food came with the usual salad potato and a vegetable that was all very good steaks cooked to perfection. My husband loved his game platter. They brought my friend a huge piece of cake with a candle and it was enough for us all. Very good food nice ambiance. We'll be back. read more

My family and I went here after a beautiful day wondering in glacier park. We got calamari and cocktail shrimp for appetizers and I do not regret it! I got the angel hair pasta and it tasted fresh and so pleasing! Make sure to save room for the crème brûlée for after if your planning on going. Also amazing service! I hadn't eaten here before and was really looking forward to it when I heard a Christmas party I was attending was going to be here. It was a huge let down. It was buffet style and the mains were some fish in a beige crème sauce of sorts and "prime". Unfortunately, they literally cut the prime so thin it was like a single piece of lunch meat put on our plates and they refused to cut it any thicker or provide additional. It was a group of 40 and I think they only had 1 prime for the entire group. There was 1 bowl of salad that was gone immediately and they finally brought another bag of pre-packaged salad out after multiple requests, opened it and dumped it in the bowl at the buffet. Potato was literally a pan of plain small potatoes. Not cut in a garlic butter or big enough to be bakers, just plain small potatoes. We had a dinner at Jagz this evening. I must say, the service was excellent. However, 4 of us ordered prime rib, and they need to find another meat supplier if that's what their best prime rib is. It was extremely tough. The meat was lined with muscle and gristle. Large portions of fat around the meat, which should have made it better. The waitress offered us another cut, but I figured it was from the same prime and passed on the offer. Jagz is a fine restaurant (if they had alcohol). And to top it all off, our bill came hand written on a sticky note, no itemized bill, just a number on the note! Next time we'll try a hamburger. read more

Really great food option for steak and seafood in The Valley. I had the Buffalo Filet and it was perfect! However, boyfriend's prime rib was cold and waiter was busy so we just took it to go. We had the most unflavorful and tough grissley ribeye ever.........It had no marbling flavor and tasted more like a bad sirloin cut than a ribeye. Mussels was a special appetizer, it was great, there was a depth of flavor to the broth that was so good!! Bison filet was excellent. The last two times we've enjoyed the service and atmosphere but there food and quality thereof has gone way down.
