Wow... amazing food. Amazing service our waitress Lindy was spot on all evening. Could not have asked for better service, the food on point.

We visited this week to celebrate our anniversary and had a lovely meal. There are some menu changes but over all we still found delicious foods to try and will continue to come back! We tried the new recipe bone marrow appetizer and while it was quite good, we hope the new chef goes back to the tried and true recipe that had the mushrooms instead of so much bacon. The black garlic Caesar was amazing and we both went for the Bison Teres Major for our main course. It did not disappoint. The meat was so tender and cooked just right. The sides of mashed potatoes and fresh green beans rounded out our plates nicely. Our server treated us to some yummy dessert to close out our anniversary night too. We had such a lovely experience at Freestone Restaurant! We had just pulled into Kalispell. We'd been traveling all day and were needing an early(ish) dinner. A quick Yelp search led us to Freestone Restaurant. The dining room is chic and comfortable. If I lived in the area, this would definitely be a spot I'd go when I wanted something a little more upscale. We started with smoked old fashioned cocktails, which were divine. For my main, I got their caesar salad with salmon added. The salmon was pitch perfect (gotta love salmon in the Mountain West) and the caesar itself was exemplary, with just the right blend of creaminess and crunch from the croutons. Our server was a delight. She made the meal an absolute pleasure. She was attentive without being overbearing and gave us some tips for our upcoming trip to Glacier as well. Get to it! read more

Wonderful, solid four stars. We celebrated our anniversary here and were so glad we did. My husband was excited to try his Bison Short Ribs, which he really enjoyed, and I was equally as thrilled for fresh lake trout tacos. The corn tortillas were some of the best I've had. The fish and toppings were great too. I did feel it could have used more sauce as well as more fish. I'm glad it was three tacos and not two, but I felt skimped on protein. Our server MacKenzie was a delight and helped me navigate my gluten free options without making me feel like a pain. Our glasses of red wine were the perfect compliment to the evening. Service staff was friendly however they made us wait for a table for 20 minutes when the lobby was empty and most of the tables were as well, it wasn't even busy really after we were seated. We ordered roughly 10 minutes after we were seating and it took almost an hour for our food to come out. I had the lobster macaroni and the lobster was horribly over cooked and ended up only being 3 bites worth of lobster. Unfortunately won't be coming back or recommending. read more

I'm reluctantly giving the restaurant a three star review. The staff were friendly, but not very attentive. I ordered a $55 steak and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. It came out well done. After the food was served, the server did not come back until we were done with the meal. We ate what we could but everyone agreed their steaks were over overcooked and over seasoned. I love a well seasoned steak, but this had so much salt it was almost inedible. The other people that ordered the same meal agreed . I would possibly try this place again, but I would definitely ensure that the steak was cooked properly and I would ask them to not over salt it. read more

The atmosphere is a calm vibe with the dining room or bar area to choose from. The service has been top notch, from recommendations, to just checking in consistently. Went here for a special occasion with my family. Our reservation was for 7:00 PM. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed the temperature in the restaurant was uncomfortably low. We asked to be moved closer to the kitchen in hopes of some residual heat. Unfortunately, the temperature continued to drop throughout the evening, to the point where we all kept our jackets on for the entire meal. The waiter, who had a man bun (we'll call him or her MB for short), assured us that hot bread was only minutes away. Fair enough. Drink orders weren't taken until 15-20 minutes after arrival. We asked to order food at the same time since we were cold and hungry, but MB asked for a moment. Their definition of a "moment" seems to differ from mine, as it took another 15 minutes before we were finally able to order. My mother wanted the walleye for dinner but expressed concern about pin bones--the waiter told her not to worry. Another 15 minutes passed, and we genuinely began to consider leaving, but by that point it felt like I had invested too much time to walk out. My brother did decide to leave, though. While debating our exit, that "hot bread" finally arrived--45 minutes after it was promised--courtesy of MB. Our appetizers came out over an hour after being seated. Our entrées followed about 20 minutes later. I'll be honest: I enjoyed the calamari, bone marrow, and my steak. My mother, however, ended up spitting out a pile of fish bones from the walleye she supposedly didn't need to worry about. MB asked if she had "found the only bone in the fish," which made it difficult to tell whether he was expressing concern or just taking a sarcastic dig. After all of this, it somehow took another 15-20 minutes for the staff to figure out how to bring us our check. I'm starting to notice a theme here--are you? When the check did arrive, they made sure to include a 20% gratuity because, you know, that service was legit... LOL. I'm giving this place two stars because the food itself was pretty good when it finally arrived (bony fish aside). The service and overall experience were not good--and I'm being generous. If you go here, I wish you luck and make sure you go in the summer or wear warm clothes. read more

The fact that it's connected to a mid-price chain hotel should have been a clue but it was open late so we went anyway. My companion who does not drink alcohol ordered lemonade and was given something with a lot of alcohol in it. Our food was sub par as well. You could actually talk and hear people. The drink was an Brandy Alexander. Something I had on a cruise once. (Oh oh. Now they know who I am.) This is an up scale place with a great atmosphere. Stopped in around 8 as I had just arrived in town and this place was next door to the hotel so I could just walk over Nice inside and mostly empty. Was going to sit in the dining room but there was some kids running around and screaming so I opted for the bar. Bar is nice, big and dark. Sat at a table but no one came over (more on this later) so I moved to the bar. Ordered and old fashioned and perused the menu. Drink was delicious and delivered fairly quickly. I asked her opinion between the bison and beef meatloaf or the burger. She said burger all day so I went with that. The soup was a corn chowder so I got a cup of that too Corn chowder was really good, spicy and delicious. Burger came out shortly after and was very good. Nice burger and fries. I ate it all and half the fries. Service was just ok, after I got the burger I never got waited on again. My water was empty, my drink was empty but the bartender just waited on new people and floated around, never checked in again. I asked for the check, paid and left 2 nights later I decided to go back cause I was tired and didn't feel like driving. Walked over and doors were locked, said closed due to lack of staff. If you've come across this review while looking for a place to dine in Kalispell, LOOK NO FURTHER! I had an exceptional experience at Freestone a couple of weeks ago. The food and service are exceptional! Bread and oil are complementary. The bread is fresh ciabatta severed with olive oil, locally made balsamic vinaigrette and roasted whole garlic. The vinaigrette is incredible - perfectly rich, tangy and slightly sweeter than I'm use to. I wish I remembered the name of the maker. Next came soup and salad, both were fantastic! For my entree, I had the Cab Ribeye ($55.00) - 14 oz of beautifully cooked, juicy certified angus beef topped with bearnaise (+$3.00) with a side of seasonal veggie medley. Wonderfully marbled, each bite was rich and smooth like butter. It was a perfect combination of savory, meaty notes and a slightly sweet undertone. Furthermore, the crust was magnificently seared to caramelized perfection. Damn, this was one good piece of meat. Many, many compliments to the chef. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The waitress was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu items. She checked on us just the right amount of times. one of the worst dining experiences of my life - fine dining my ass! Terrible management (dirty linen and greasy check sleeve), an inattentive bar (our beverage order took forever, even though the place was less than 1/4 full on an early monday evening) - the flatbread pizza was imaginative and tasty, but then disaster - the flatiron steak was unavailable (again, how could this sell out so early in the evening, when the place was not busy at all??) - the alternative suggested was the rib-eye that was served on a brick of salt - the cut was terrible, very thin and all fat and gristle (for 70 dollars - wow, this cut wouldn't be up to Sizzler standards) - and the meat was so overly salty that we just couldn't go past the 2nd bite (fortunate, since cutting around the aforementioned fat and gristle, where wasn't much more to be had in any case). Our poor waitress tried her best to salvage the experience, but there's just no way we couldn't get past that a menu item was unavailable and that the substitute was just plain aweful. With so many other wonderful choices in the area, avoid this one!!! (if you want a "real" steak, head to Mercantile Steak, or if you want "real" fine dining, head to White Fish and Herb and Omni. read more

I am giving this place 5 stars, but if I were able, I'd probably go 4.5 stars. We wanted to try this new restaurant as the menu looked interesting and we thought it would be fun to go somewhere new. The only hesitation was the location being attached to a hotel. That seemed odd and I've never really found a hotel restaurant to be all that great unless you are in a big city. We started with drinks at the bar. The bar is lovely and the drinks were fantastic. They use a lot of local products from the local distilleries, which I appreciate. We next headed to our table, and the room is very large, but nicely decorated. The room was on the chilly side, which I attribute to the large space. The service was fantastic, our server did not hesitate to make suggestions and recommendations. The wine list was very good as well, we were impressed with the variety and selection. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and a salad for starters, and we were off to a good start. Both were very good. My watermelon salad, which the server recommended over the one I was thinking about, was wonderful. We then both had a fish dish - I had the trout and he had the salmon. The server did warn me that the sauce was not his favorite on the trout, and he was right. They need to spice that sauce up a bit to make it more flavorful, but the fish was good and the almond crust was very nice. We ended with sticky toffee pudding, which was one of the reasons I came here. I love sticky toffee pudding. The dessert was large and came in a cast iron pan. it was good and indulgent. But, it wasn't a classic sticky toffee pudding like you'd get in England. So, if you go in knowing they use that term loosely, you'll enjoy the dessert on it's own merits. read more

Great service to start with and fantastic food to end with! I had bison short rib and my husband had scallops. Both were very, very good! The bison was so tender and the sauce it was in was amazing! We stopped here on our way to Glacier, no reservations but we're seated right away. The ambiance was perfect for the evening. A few larger parties were dining but it wasn't disturbing. We accidentally dropped our credit card on the floor before we left and didn't notice until the next day in Glacier. We called and our server had found it and turned it in. They held it at the hotel front desk for us for our return a few days later. Would definitely recommend dining here and if/when we are in the area again we will certainly stop! read more

My husband and I, and our 2 kids rarely eat out as our son is in the spectrum and has Crohn's disease, we came to celebrate with a dinner for several big milestones that occurred recently. With the dietary restrictions our 7 year old has, we had packed his cooked food in a container as we had done prior in this same restaurant months ago and all other restaurants in town. We were greeted with a do you have a reservation, when we replied no, we were told well you can sit in the bar area, restaurant is for reservations (one table was occupied and on opentable app I could have clicked to make a reservation at that exact time). We sat down and got the kids settled, ordered drinks, service seemed to be taking some time. Come to realize it was due to background conversations about us and the individual who seated us came over and shared we could not have my sons container of chicken in the restaurant due to health code. Mind you nothing on the entrance states no outside food either and was never the justification provided by staff, only Montana health code. We shared he has medical dietary restrictions, to which we were met with a 'I know my kids are picky too'. I continued to question this as we were not asking this to be plated, rewarmed, or any request for their staff. Just that 'we aren't going to lose our jobs over this'. I have never felt so insulted and embarrassed in a restaurant by staff, we immediately went home as my kids were clearly confused by why we had to leave. Please do better to train your staff about hospitality and handling situations with grace, as well as what is and is not Health Code or if it is a restaurant policy of no external food! read more

This restaurant's interior is beautifully done! We were staying in Lakeside and had high hopes for this restaurant. The service was wonderful as well! My husband drinks bourbon and she actually took the time to write down the different varieties they served! (I am sorry I cannot recall her name). Sadly, though, the food was just OK. My husband ordered lamb chops and the bones were burned and the meat was very well done. We had not ever experienced lamb prepared in this manner. We got through the meal, but were sadly disappointed given the beautiful interior and attentive server. And the food was virtually inedible. The chicken was incinerated. The buffalo sliders closely resembled hockey pucks. The short ribs were all fat and very little meat. Out of our party of 10, four of us could not eat the dinner, and ended up stopping to get something to eat on the way home. I have eaten at Freestone a variety of times and have always had impeccable service thanks to Wendy, one of the best servers I've ever had. Tonight was meant to be a special night out with family and friends but unfortunately it was marred by our server who was actually the manager. He was rude, knew nothing about the wine menu, and continually complained that he was too busy to deal with us. Luckily, Wendy stepped in as much as she could (she was busy too) and the busser was FANTASTIC. In the end our food was great as usual but man! Be prepared with good servers during the summer.
