Great design and ambiance but the food didn't deliver. The Rustica pastries were great but we're not rating Rustica here unfortunately. Their cappuccinos and lattes were fantastic. Their hash was barely okay and their toast was nothing spectacular albeit good. Update - on a second visit for tea in the lounge, I took this place from 3 stars down to 2 stars because the service was very clumsy. I am still willing to go a third time potentially and try drinks + dinner. read more

I want to love Tullibee for brunch but I'd recommend that you give the restaurant time to get everything together. The ambiance is perfect. The brunch menu seems fine but entrees are underwhelming. The potato flatbread dish is simply a folded up potato pancake, some scrambled eggs and some cured salmon. The fried egg sandwich is small and is unappetizingly presented. Service was very slow and negligent. New restaurants work out their service issues over time. Will Tullibee work out their menu issues too? read more

Cool addition to the neighborhood. Decor is Nordic warm. Drinks are good. Nice crowd. Went back for dinner and i have to say it was just OK. I had the duck. Not bad at all, but i was expecting more out of the first hip hotel restaurant in the North Loop. Service was nice and here is to hoping that the menu will be looked at and improved upon. read more

Amazing food, amazing people! This place seriously has a great atmosphere. You definitely get what you pay for here, we cannot wait to come back. Thanks Tullibee (: read more

I will start by saying that the food here is very good. However the service is clueless... they are all very nice, but it will take forever for the hostess to figure out where to seat you, even though there are countless open tables, it will take a while for you to get service, and quite a while to get your food... there seems to be a lot of confusion in regards to the operation. We've been there multiple times because it's right across the street from our apartment, and the food is truly quite good. Twice we had to just leave because the hostess couldn't figure it out, once we waited forever for our food only to be told the item I ordered was sold out, and the other two times were pleasant and easy. I would give 5 stars to food and one star to service, hence the three star. I hope they figure it out. read more

Went here for New Years Eve dinner. We were there pretty early, and it was not busy at all. We were seated and were surprised to see only a tasting menu. We asked if it was only a tasting menu for the night, and was informed that was the case. I totally understand that this can be the practice on busy restaurant nights like NYE, but NOWHERE was this fact pointed out on any outlet (i.e. website, during their phone call to confirm reservation, sign on the door of the restaurant, etc.). We luckily don't have any food allergies because we weren't even asked if we had any allergies during the prior phone call or at the restaurant. The two of us had the tasting menu with wine pairings. The total, before tax, for both of our meals was $300.00 ($105 per person for food and $45 per person for wine pairing). The server we had was delightful and the food was good, but the food was not worth $105. We have eaten at numerous restaurants with tasting menus and never had it this expensive. It seems like there was basically a 40% NYE up charge for food and wine. The women's bathrooms were also a mess with water all over the sink. The valet service was poor. It seemed like they didn't care. No one opened the door when we arrived. And when we left, they tried up charging us from the cost we were originally told from $16 to $20. I hate to leave a review like this, but it wasn't just NYE for us, but also a personal special event. And all these little things together made a poor experience for the both of us. read more

BEWARE! I have been here a few other times and friends of mine have too with the notion "Its nice inside but the food and drinks are way overpriced for what you get". I understand its a hotel and maybe that gives you the excuse to charge more but I came in last night and my experience was awful. I asked how much it was for a single pour of a Japanese whiskey thinking it might be expensive, decided to do a rye whiskey instead thinking it would have been cheaper but at no point did the bartender mention that the rye was $30 a pour plus $3 to make it an old fashion. I would think its customary (especially after I already asked for a price on a different whiskey) to give the customer a heads up that they are about to spend over $30 on one drink. Poor service and I am not even sure overpriced is a good way to put it, but more so apathetic to the customer. read more

Trash restaurant. First issue was that it lost my reservation. Second problem was the service. And it just kept getting worse. This dumpster fire of a brunch joint bills itself as a fine dining establishment but conducts itself worse than your average truck stop diner. Pictures look nice but highly misleading. I can't wait for it to close down. If the health inspectors don't do it, which I suspect they will, it will run itself out of business, since it's hard to imagine it will have even one repeat customer. This place embarrasses the lovely Hewing hotel; patrons of the hotel would be better off eating at literally any restaurant, vending machine or refuse bin in the city than here. read more

Stumbled upon Tullibee when we had a long wait at another restaurant. Wow - what a surprise! Excellent food. Great creative menu. Great vibe & don't let bring in a hotel lobby deter you. Check it out!!! read more

I was so excited to try Tullibee for the first time during Restaurant Week but I was quite disappointed with the food and the quality of service. Our server not only forgot to bring my wine ( I had to ask one of the food runners to bring it after the first course arrived) but did not check on us during any of the three courses. A portion of my pork was underdone (still very pink and squishy) and the white chocolate sundae was sickeningly sweet and not well balanced. There are so many incredible restaurants participating in Restaurant Week that not only execute dishes consistently but also have a much higher standard of service. read more

Fantastic dinner at Tullibee. Love the space and the restaurant was lively, but quieter than the packed lounge. For appetizers, we had the ham plate, which included a variety of cured pork meats, and also the bison carpaccio. These were all great - well-seasoned but not salty and just delicious. Our entrees were also excellent - we ordered a special beef and squash polenta dish as well as halibut. The polenta alone will bring me back. Rounded out with very solid side vegetables. But my favorite was the blueberry galette. The pastry was nutty and perfect, and the tarte included very fresh blueberries and chives, topped withe creme anglais. Anyone who thinks the best kind of dessert is pastry + fruit will love this. read more

Love the space and the forged mushrooms were great but the restaurant is skating by only because it is attached to an "it" hotel. Went for dinner on Saturday, service was awful, dish seasoning was inconsistent and the quality is well below other restaurants at this price point in town. read more

Loved this place! Everything from the cocktails to to the entrees. The service was top notch & the ambiance fantastic. It's a must do for you mpls-St. Paul foodies out there!! read more

Genuinely...we had high hopes. The main floor bar - and the festivities in the upper floor bar - are fantastic. The experience and dinner at Tullibee's last night was very much the opposite. There were three of us...all had equally ok/mediocre experiences. Service was impersonal and a bit dull - uninspired - the poor person was obviously tired and it translated to the dullness of the meal. The beet salad was tiny - there may have been one small golden beet on the plate. The taste was bland. The best entree was the pork dish served with an apple and fennel slaw - the slaw was tasty but the chop was blase. Our friend had a filet - it looked beautiful but was served somewhere between room-temperature and lukewarm. I had Steak Tartare - the most boring flavor and presentation I've had - it really lacked any punch at all. There were cornichons mixed in the beef, but no onion...no Dijon...and good God, hardboiled egg! We did have one side-dish; roasted potatoes with goat cheese that we all agreed was very good. But overall it was a miss. read more

We celebrated a birthday on a wintry Friday eve. Our server Manu was fantastic & started us off with a prosecco to celebrate the occasion. Enjoyed the ambience - decor, crowd & huge floor to ceiling windows for watching people parading by on the street with various winter head gear. Starter courses were excellent-lettuces, curly roots & tartare in our group. Tilefish only so so as were the potatoes - heavy white sauces more reminiscent of Ikea than Noma. Chicken was good. Desserts were a bit over constructed. Carrot cake inappropriately named. It's orange but that's where the similarity ends. Waiter had explained that so no surprise but it wasn't particularly tasty. Chocolate & cranberry meringue deserts were better. Could definitely notch it up a bit on the main courses but overall a fun place. read more

Amazing food and great staff! Yes a little over priced but aren't most restaurant in Minneapolis... had the beef heart, cod, duck, root salad, and creamy spinach. Really enjoyed the the beef heart tartare. Will most definitely go back again! I'm giving it 4 stars because of the price, we aren't in NYC. read more

Totally awesome. We had a great dinner, then, the table next to us was really loud so we relocated to the lobby for after dinner drinks and the restaurant bought our drinks even though the loud table was in no way their fault- INCREDIBLE. Steaks were great, starters were great, highly recommended. read more

The space is incredible but the food was disappointing. Several of us had entrees that were cold. Some of the apps were good - the lefsa and veal tartare were delicious - but everything else was less than mediocre. read more

Went for restaurant week and was completely disappointed. Cool space but that's about the only good thing I can say. I ordered the pork which was underwhelming, bland, 4 oz and at least 1 oz fat. When I mentioned it to the server she told me that was because it was from a local farm. Laughable. The table next to me had a piece so rare it was purple. My wife had the barley risotto which would be a decent side dish, but no where near an upscale entree. Feel like I was completely ripped off, will never return. Look forward to returning to the space when this place goes under. read more

It's a fancy restaurant that qualifies, in my book as "overpriced mediocre food". I do not like when the presentation comes at the expense of taste/quality. Salmon was cooked very well but lacked seasoning and came with four grilled carrots - that's all. I would expect little more for an entrée. Salad (not part of entrée) was okay but mediocre. Risotto was less than mediocre - it felt like the rice was not fully cooked and it seriously lacked risotto creaminess. Not sure if they used the wrong rice or cooked in a hurry??? However, the plate presentation was great. Not sure if I would go back. read more

Our server Manou is exceptional. Enjoyed 3 appetizer plates 2 entrees and 2 desserts. Hosts need a little more polish when greeting guests. Will definitely return. read more

Since tulibee started a new chef, this place is a whole new (better) place! I almost fell asleep reading their old brunch menu. And now, rather than 6 items to choose from they almost have 6 columns to choose from! Very very good food. Outstanding coffee. I can't wait to come back. read more

Totally mediocre experience. I'd been dying to try the brunch at Tullibee since the hotel opened. I had my eye on their Norwegian waffle, and their gravlax with lefse. My friend and I made a Saturday reservation, and we when we arrived I was so disappointed to see both the waffle and the gravlax/lefse were removed from the menu. The items that remained were lackluster and overpriced. I asked the waitress about the pastries and one of the options she described was a "swedish cinnamon roll". I have been dying to try a Swedish cinnamon roll (Kanelbullar) since I moved to the twin cities and learned about them. I order one with my coffee, and was surprised when the waitress returned with a Kouign-amann, which is a french, sugary roll of puff pastry and about as far as you can get from a "Swedish cinnamon roll". Service was slow, and uninformed about the menu items. Brunch for two, took two hours from sitting down, to signing the check. And this was not by choice; but rather due to 30 minute gaps between seeing our server. Only check this place out if you just want a coffee and a pastry in a pretty atmosphere. read more

As beautiful of a space it is.....The restaurant is a huge disappointment! Had a reservation for 2 and ended up with an extra person. The hostess made such a huge deal about adding a 3rd person, the restaurant had over 50% empty tables! We looked at the menu while waiting way to long for her to figure this out, and saw nothing that even looked good! Everything had so much thought put into it.....it is a flap! The bar area was fun & that was about the highlight of the place. Great people watching, but expected more from a new restaurant. read more

Lively ambiance in the lobby of this hotel. You cut through the hotel bar to get to the restaurant. The service was outstanding, very friendly, knowledgeable staff. The food was delicious with a unique flare. We ordered almost everything on the menu. The favorites were the spinach, spiral salad, duck and Norwegian cod. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Great ambiance. Busy Friday night. Younger crowd. Fun atmosphere. Food: very limited menu. Very overpriced, teeny portions! Good: sweet potato and the root vegetable salad. Poor: the pork was inedible and incredibly fatty! We were compensated for the pork, it was that bad! The $30 duck was the size of my thumb. Left hungry. Disappointed. read more

Stopped here after an incredible evening at Bar La Grassa. I can't speak to the hotel and the rooms or hotel experience, and I am not sure whether to leave this review for Hewing Hotel or Tullibee. At any rate we walked in to Hewing Hotel and got drinks at the hotel lobby bar. Literally in the same lobby is Tullibee which was mostly empty, but unwilling to seat us unless we ordered food. So we stood uncomfortably in the bar and after waiting about 10 minutes a server walked over and we finally got a drink order in. Wait another 7 (which is expected for the craft cocktail I ordered) for drinks to be delivered. I think my girlfriend and I both erupted in laughter at the same time at the tiny craft cocktail to appeared before us. $12 for that? Granted it was good, but I can get an amazing craft cocktail down the street at Parlour that is well worth the money. The kicker came when after 4 sips of my tiny cocktail and it was gone that it seemed impossible to order anything else. Servers walked by, 4 servers by the bar having a blast chatting away, one server took our glasses and ran away without asking if we wanted another. I looked around and noticed plenty of other patrons with empty glasses. It took another 15 minutes to flag down a server just to get a tab. Remember, we are standing at a standing table in the middle of the bar! So out we go, with a disappointing end to our evening. read more

Some of the best food we have eaten anywhere! Such unique flavors and innovative creations. Their chicken and wild rice soup is by far the best soup I have ever had in my life. We liked it so much we are returning tonight! Wish we had another day in town so we could eat a couple more meals here. The hotel is also phenomenal! read more

Whole experience was a disaster. My bf had me excited to check this place out because he said they had the best chicken sandwich. We came on 2.28.19 and both ordered the chicken sandwich on the top floor bar. We were served an order of fries and one chicken sandwich. We'd got the servers attention and let him know this was not our order. We didnt order the fries and wanted another chicken sandwich. Moments later the server came back and told us they ran out of chicken. How does this happen? Who runs out of chicken?? My bf and I became instantly irritated. I proceeded to bite into the one sandwich we had as I noticed the sandwich itself was cold. Not to mention the chicken felt dry and overcooked. We decided not to eat it and return it. At this point we are both highly upset and hungry. We then asked to pay the bill and asked them to charge a curtain card. As if things couldnt get any worse, they charged the wrong card. Naturally they didnt charge us for the food but it would have been nice to have had valet validated as well. This was by far one of the worst dinning experiences we have ever had. Not sure if we will be giving it a second try. read more

Well, it was extremely disappointing. We were not expecting a buffet since there was no mention of a "Christmas Buffet". We had reservations at 2:30 but didn't get seated for 30 minutes. When we asked what was going on we were informed it was to set up the buffet table. Large quantities of 4 different types of smoked fish with bowl of cream cheese, one type bread, capers and chopped separated eggs ( separated eggs?). Then a salad bar with lettuce leaves, nuts, dried cranberries, a salad of small shrimp in a thousand island dressing. No tomatoes or cucumbers etc. Nordic? Then what the hostess called the protein table was lamb meatballs in a gravy; green beans, very dry thick turkey slices with no gravy, small plate of cranberry blueberry jam ?, sliced sguash so dry it was inedible, and whole boiled Yukon potato. We had to ask for butter and salt and pepper. Since the squash and potato were Luke warm the butter did not enhance the dryness. The dessert table was set up in the hotel lobby on the other side of bar past the main entrance. Oh and there were two German Shepherd dogs in bar area brought in by bar customers. Dogs in a restaurant bar area? My husband did mention the dry turkey and squash to manager who was grateful for the feedback. As we were finishing dinner we noticed they took the dry squash away and brought it back as a new refined squash mash! Now if this was not enough of an insult our meal alone without wine or drinks was $135 for 3 of us. For our party of 3 the total bill was $220. 5 stars for Atmosphere and cocktails. 2 stars for Christmas dinner surprise and the dogs. read more

We had dinner tonight at tullibee's. We were celebrating my husbands birthday. They gave us a complimentary glass of champagne which was lovely. Our waiters name was Manu. He was awesome! Very friendly, attentive and French!! We had the curly root vegetables, lefse with duck and the duck meatball soup for starters; so delicious! For the main course we had poussin with a savory risotto-like rice and Atlantic cod. We ordered the broccoli and potatoes for our sides. There was a tad too much balsamic reduction on the broccoli otherwise everything was superb! For dessert we had the carrot cake and ice cream sandwich. The cookies on the ice cream sandwich were too hard but the flavor was good. Don't forget to have a manhattan with dinner and coffee with dessert. We would highly recommend this restaurant and we'll definitely be back. We are staying at the Hewing for the weekend which we would also recommend! read more

The atmosphere is excellent as was the service. The menu was extremely creative, with small to medium portions of appropriate size. Halibut, Bison sausage coil entrees were excellent and well prepared. Some sides slightly salty for my taste, but within an excellent well-prepared range. The hand cut bacon app was worth building a restaurant around. A delicious morsel! Expensive, but not beyond the quality of the menu and preparation. read more

As a group of eight we ordered all of the sides, most of the appetizers and desserts. As an entrée I had the cod. It was prepared very well, but the portion was so small that it left me disappointed. Several of our group ordered the skewers and were very disappointed. They were passed around the table and nobody liked them - which is odd as there were several meat eaters looking to fill their bellies. The sides were ok, but not great - the potatoes were everyone's favorite. The desserts were most disappointing, particularly the carrot cake. It was crumbled and lacked the essentials you expect in a quality carrot cake. The drinks were well done with the Old Fashion a group favorite. All in all, the portions were small and not that tasty. I will not return. read more

here's the thing: beautiful well designed space, terrible everything else. the menu seems thoughtful and interesting, but the food is underwhelming and disappointing. we work in the neighborhood, so gave tullibee 2 chances (like i said, the space really is gorgeous) but both times we were appalled by how awful the service was (saw our waiter 3 times in 1.5 hours) and by what was served (one bite was enough with a few of the dishes). might consider going back for drinks (perhaps sitting at the bar will actually get us served?) but will definitely not be spending one more doll hair on their food snacks. tullibee, you're cute, but i think you need to do some self reflection and work on consistency. read more

Meh. That's really all I can say. Place looks great. Food tasted fine but was not good enough for their prices. Was here for Sunday brunch (with plenty of open tables) and service was terribly slow and the food was even slower (like waiting 15 minutes for a drink and another 15 minutes for an order of fries). And a place that charges for soda water when it's not bottled is absolutely absurd. Will probably not be making a trip back. read more

This was our third visit this month. First time was brunch on SB Sunday, which we enjoyed. Next was a dinner my husband had with some colleagues. He said the food was very good, notably the lamb and pork meatballs and braised short ribs, but the service was almost comical. We decided to give them another chance and try the restaurant week deal. We started with a cocktail at the bar, a Manhattan for my husband and a French 75 for me, and both were well prepared. When we were seated for dinner the service was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. We had the same server, Katie, whom we had for brunch. We shared the brussels sprout salad, the lamb meatballs, the trout, the butternut squash risotto, and their interesting (I mean that in a good way) takes on rice pudding and a sundae for dessert. Our only complaint was that the lamb meatballs were overcooked, although the sauce helped rescue them. It is a very nice space with good ambiance and we would return. Hopefully they will continue to work out the kinks. read more

I was at Tullibee for a business dinner on a weeknight. Our orders were simple and straightforward and yet we waited over an hour for our food, which was very good and very beautifully presented. Unfortunately, it's hard to enjoy the food when you are starving. Problem was repeated for dessert and I had to leave the group before it was served. There's a difference between "slow food" and slow service. read more

If the food even came close to the beautiful renovations, we'd have been happy. No such luck. Very disappointing. The menu is over-complicated and the drinks are over-priced. The four of us came out of there spending close to $300 and left hungry and with barely a buzz. My pork chop was under-cooked (I left half of it) and my cocktail was less than tasty (I didn't take more than a few sips), but our server didn't pick up on either of those cues. And don't get me started on the dessert... the citrus carrot cake? Looks like fried rice, and not a taste of carrot cake to be found. It was more orange scone than anything. Between the four of us -- two vegetarians and two carnivores -- the level of disappointment was identical. We won't be coming back any time soon. Here's hoping they work out the kinks quickly. It's a great space, and a shame to see it not succeed. read more
