We just went to Seattle last week for the West Coast Flower and Garden Show and spent the weekend checking out the city and enjoying some of the local restaurants. On Saturday night we ate at Tulio's on 5th Avenue. It was nothing short of fabulous!! What a fantastic find, we just happened to walk by and read the menu posted outside the door. I saw Burrata on the menu and was sold. I love Burrata. If you don't know what that is....find out. I'm very picky about Burrata as well...it has to be real, good authentic Burrata and not mozzarella masquerading like something it's not. Tulio's designs an absolutely delicious dish for its Burrata. Excellent flavours, beautiful presentation and unbeatable price. We started our evening with some Prosecco and nice warm bread service. I had the Burrata to start and my fiancé had the Escarole Caesar salad. You already know how I felt about the Burrata, and my fiancé really enjoyed the salad as well. We had the Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Sweet Potato Gnocchi as our mains. Both were MELT IN YOUR MOUTH delicious!! We enjoyed a glass of Vermentino and Nebbiolo with our dinner and finished the evening with a Gelato for him and an amazing Affogato for me!! As a nice little surprise, Shasta our brilliant server brought us some Limoncello on the house to put the proverbial cherry on the cake of a wonderful evening out. You would never guess Tulio's was part of a hotel, but it is. It is a beautiful and charming venue. The kind of place you'd take someone you really wanted to impress. A shout out to Shasta who was delightful and to Paul, the Restaurant Manager who took the time to come by our table and chat for a while. If you're in the downtown Seattle and you want a great place to have a lovely dinner, we would recommend Tulio's without a doubt. You will pay a little extra but it will be well worth it. Great Italian food and good service! We were there on a Wednesday Summer night. The restaurant was packed at 6:30 pm. Our waiter was great. You can tell he enjoyed the food he recommended. Right there we know we would enjoy a nice Italian dinner. We ordered Burrata for appetizer. It made with rhubarb agrodulce, pistachio herb oil, citrus segments and foccaccia tuille. A great start! My lamb shank is made perfect with mint, barrel aged feta and creamy polenta. My husband's Pork Milanese with panzanella salad, brown butter vinaigrette, kale, apples, pickled golden raisins. I love how the kale which was so tender and yet I can feel the kale's unique texture. All dishes are so well thought and executed! read more

So staying at the hotel and went to get a glass of wine and was pounced on by the bartender saying they were closing in 10 minutes and making sure I didn't want to order food. The restaurant was still packed too. If I were an owner, I'd be watching and training these people to get the most for the business and appease the customers-especially when it's still packed . The glass of wine was not spectacular - it was a basic Cabernet and price was $26. I didn't get to see the wine list-just asked what I wanted. Solid dining experience if you're looking for a good spot in the area. We went before a show nearby and it worked out well. Warm cozy feel during the holidays. Started with drinks at the bar and the bartender was great . Thanks Narwhal! We were on a tight timeline to get to our show and they did a good job trying to get us out there on time once we were seated, although the service was a little hit or miss. We ordered wine which didn't come until our dinner was served. They may have been short staffed. Really loved the lentil and kale soup and gnocchi to start. The orecchiette was our favorite dish. Nicely flavored with a kick of spice but not too heavy. I was excited to try the ravioli but was underwhelmed. Some of the other dishes lacked a little flavor ... we had to add salt...oops! I recommend Tulio if you're looking for a place in the area but wouldn't necessarily go out of your way. read more

I stopped in here one night for dinner while staying at the Kimpton Hotel Vintage Seattle, where they are located. I sat at the bar since I was traveling alone and ordered a glass of wine and chicken fettuccini. The pasta and sauce were wonderful! Being that this is "fine dining" in Seattle, I paid the price for it here. No regrets though. The perfect balance of pasta to the sauce and I really liked the pasta flavor and texture. They only get 4 out of 5 stars because they advertise themselves as an "elegant dining room that bustles with convivial grace." I don't feel like I had the 5-star dining hall experience that I would at a restaurant with these prices. Maybe it's because I sat at the bar? But overall, the restaurant didn't scream elegance. More just a casual bar-style Italian restaurant. I did appreciate that my server/bar-tender didn't treat me differently for solo dining - that happens frequently when dining in. read more

Ordered the sweet potato gnocchi and thought it was pretty solid. The sweet potato isn't super sweet and it paired well with the mascarpone. Texturally the gnocchi was soft and was crisped on the edges which I really liked. There was some finishing salt or something on there that made some bites way too salty. It's kind of a small portion for $16 but it was listed as an appetizer and all Italian food is pretty overpriced so it was pretty standard. read more

What a wonderful restaurant. They work so hard to provide a lovely experience and we do love eating here. Our excellent server, William, was such a professional and so charming. Seriously, life can be hard and coming here is such a gift, helping to make the world better one meal at a time. The food is very good and the wines well chosen. We have to come back soon for the specials we couldn't fit in. lol. All the pastas are delicious and the meat and seafood first class. Brutal - 4th of July they only have ONE person working breakfast because they thought it would be slow!? Had to wait 20 min to sit when there were 5 empty set tables, 2 empty unset tables, and 3 uncleared tables with dirty dishes on them . Then once I sat it took another 30 min just to put my order in, mind you the restaurant only had 5 tables of people at that point. when i finally got my food, eggs were hard and cold, then they brought me a check with the wrong charge on it so had to bring me new one, felt bad for the 1 woman working but as a customer it was awful waste of $30. I asked her when I sat down if there was a manager or someone she could call to help, she just kinda shrugged. Before that I'd told the front desk was what going on but they didn't care. You'd think they'd at least be able to grab someone from housekeeping to help clear dishes, on a holiday to only have ONE person working is honestly odd, I can't imagine they really thought it would be slow if they have any experience, but that's the reason the server gave. Really tainted my stay at the hotel. And then oddly when I was heading to airport at 5pm I heard a guest ask the front desk what time the bar opens, they said oh it's not open tonight....id be bummed if I came to stay there and heard that. Now I guess I'm not that surprised that when I called from my room the prior night to get a drink they said oh the bar closed at 9pm...seemed early at the time but clearly there's some sort of staffing issue. read more

Tulio consistently delivers excellence. And while I do not get in as much as some other places, it is remarkably convenient to a lot of the buildings in the downtown core, thus making it a great spot for dinner after long meetings ending at the close of business. The philosophy here is to offer a few items that are all excellent, rather than an over-broad menu that risks some items being less well prepared than others. I had the ravioli and they were excellent. as were the cocktails and small plates that came before. The service war attentive and well paced. I also appreciate that the floor is not too crowded with tables and the atmosphere is quiet, leading to a peaceful meal. read more

We had a pre-show dinner here in the bistro section (front part of the restaurant by the windows) and were not disappointed! I had bookmarked this place ages ago and finally made it in. They have a large menu of beverages to start off the meal, including a long list of various grappas. I enjoyed the mixed greens with gorgonzola and the mussels before sharing the butternut squash soup (delicioso!) and linguini and clams. The linguini was a little too al dente for my taste as I couldn't get the noodles to stay wrapped around my fork but the sauce was flavorful and delicious. I will have to return for the pumpkin gelato in the future as I was out of room and needing to head to the theatre at the end of the meal. Looking forward to it! Service was wonderful! read more

The best service i've had at a restaurant! The food was amazing, the decor was splendid, but our waiter really went above and beyond in every way. Went here for the first time for a private event. The servers did an amazing job staying attentive to all of us with our water and wine and serving each course with class. I drank all of my water then I noticed they brought me a second glass of water so I wouldn't have an empty water glass for the rest of the night. The roast chicken was delish and the chocolate cake was very rich with yummy vanilla gelato. I will definitely come back here again. Ambience was very cozy and comfortable. Bar area looked welcoming. I wanted to like this place since the food wasn't exactly bad and the place had a nice ambiance to it. But it was overpriced, service was lacking, portions too small, and they add a service charge to your bill (before tax)! We had the sweet potato gnocchi as an appetizer to share. It was good but very small portion. For the main meal I had the clam linguine which was good but again, portion was small, the clams were teeny tiny, and barely any linguine underneath. I was left feeling HUNGRY (hangry). My boyfriend ordered the ribeye with "porcini potatoes". He loves porcini mushrooms but was disappointed that there wasn't even a trace of porcini on the plate. The ribeye was good though. We wanted to ask our waiter about the "porcini potatoes" but he never bothered to ask how our meal was. He walked by our table many times and never stopped to check on us at all! He only talked to us when he brought us the check- which included a service charge before taxes. For adding a service charge, this place did not deliver to a higher standard of service. Our waiter barely even did his job except bring us 3 plates of food. Don't come here if you are hungry. Surprisingly, we were able to call this place at like 8:30 am and get a reservation for 10 set for 9:00 am the same day. This place has a nice, authentic feel to it. The breakfast/brunch menu didn't serve a huge variety, which was disappointing. The staff were nice, but as they got busy, they seemed less attentive. Also, since we were here in the morning, a lot of us had meals with eggs. My friend took a bite into her eggs and also received a bunch of egg shells. She didn't want that to happen to she pushed all her eggs to the other side of the plate and left it there. Lol. I ordered the biscuits and gravy; I forget the name of it, spicy sausage or something. It definitely felt like it was missing a component; like it needed some extra meat or something. Overall, this place was okay. FYI, when coming in with a large party, know how you plan on paying. Most of my friends were flying back home so splitting the check seemed like the best option but this place only allows you to split the bill in a maximum of 4 ways. Perhaps it is true that familiarity breeds contempt because, after our first breakfast at Tulio, I would have given Tulio a 4. But we ate four breakfasts here as well as three dinners. It's now down to a 3; meaning, average. Let me start by stating that not one waitress (breakfast) or waiter (dinner), or the Bartender, introduced themselves. We asked one waiter (Shawn) his name; and we asked the Bartender (Leah) her name. No one told us their names. I do like the Matre D. On one occasion, he told us which three tables he had available and let us chose. Another evening, he set a professional basketball player and her friend next to us. That was kind of cool. The restaurant is pleasantly dark, lots of wood, very traditional and warm. Love the interior. However, getting in and out of the booths (which we did twice at breakfast) is hard; especially getting out of them. We then started asking for a table for breakfast. We had stuff to spread out, literature for planning our day. Even though four-tops were available, we were always seated at two-tops which didn't give us room to plan our day. First breakfast: Hubby had the Waffle with fresh fruit, syrup, a compote and whipped cream. He doesn't like compote or whipped cream; he wants syrup on his Waffle. It's Italian syrup, so way too sweet for his taste. Several days later, I ordered the Waffle and used the compote which I loved as well as a wee bit of whipped cream, which was delicious. In my case, I also ordered bacon, "crispy, please." The bacon was prepared "crispy," as I had asked. First breakfast: I had the Frittata which was topped with dollops of Goat Cheese. It was good. The OJ is $5. I guess that is typical of restaurants but the first breakfast was the first and last time we ordered juice. After that, we swallowed our pills with water. I never have more than a few swallows of coffee, so I brought my own coffee in from the Hotel Lobby. Why pay $5 for half a cup of coffee? Speaking of water: It is served without asking in all of the Seattle restaurants we visited; and, of course, served without straws. I have a problem with that, because I don't believe that all restaurants get their glasses germ-free; I don't believe the water gets hot enough to sanitize. Just saying. Second breakfast: My husband wasn't very hungry, so he ordered the Cinnamon Roll. It wasn't warm and the icing had congealed. I had the Waffle and bacon and was very happy. Third breakfast: We knew we would be out in the wet and rain all day, so we both had Oatmeal. I was surprised it wasn't served with milk. The next day, I ordered Oatmeal again. Different waitress; this one offered milk. We split a Fruit Plate. Fourth breakfast: By now we were so tired of their limited breakfast menu, we could scream. Fortunately, I rode the elevator with a hotel guest who was carrying two cups of coffee in a tray and a bag of pastries. The next morning, we walked just one block to Vovito where we had tasty, warm Turkey & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches and good coffee. We spent $20 on breakfast at Vovito's instead of $40 at Tulio. Tulio adds a 5% surcharge to their bills. Hubby didn't notice it when he paid for our first breakfast. I noticed it later. After that, I took care of the bills. I tipped 15% consistently, instead of 20%. In Seattle, check your restaurant bills to see if you're being charged any or all of the gratuity. We dined at two restaurants that add 20% BUT they are clear about it, and say that the wait staff do not expect more. Tulio is sneakier. They make it sound as if it's in accordance with a law to provide a higher minimum wage, but that actually isn't the case at all. First dinner: We shared the Gnocchi appetizer. The Gnocchis are stuft with Sweet Potatoes and then lightly pan-fried. They were surprisingly good. I had Linguini with Clams. Couldn't see any linguini because there were so many clams. I did eventually get down to the Linguini, at which time I requested cheese. They don't shave the cheese at your table; they spoon already shredded cheese onto your food upon request. Second dinner: Bartender Leah is great at her job. One evening we just sat at the bar. We wanted some food to soak up the liquor but found their Appetizer Menu to be sorely lacking. When I told Leah there was nothing on it that suited, she offered to put together an antipasto plate. We accepted. We had drinks, the antipasto plate and one slice of Tiramisu. Our bill came to $145!!! Yikes! Third dinner: My husband had Mussells and thoroughly enjoyed them; the best Mussels he's ever had. I had Pumpkin Soup. It was okay. I've had better. (Five Spice Pumpkin Soup at the historic Panamonte Inn in Boquete, Panamá.) Dinners are served with Foccacia, but the bread is bland bland bland. We eat Foccacia at home frequently, but what we buy from Trader Joe's is tasty. This was so bland that it was "one and done." read more

Tulio reminds me a lot of old Italian restaurants on the East Coast - great use of wood, moulding, and quality materials while being a bit more 'buttoned up' than most restaurants in Seattle (even the 'fancier' ones). We went for lunch on a Friday and while they were full, they were able to seat us in the bar. Service was prompt and friendly. We were almost immediately served four slices of soft bread with olive oil for dipping. We ordered two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, and I ordered the agnolotti and my co-worker ordered risotto. The food came out remarkably fast, and the agnolotti - OMG! YUM! At first, the use of lemon was a little overpowering in this creamy dish, but when paired with the cheese inside of the pasta, it was balanced very nicely. My co-worker enjoyed his risotto and we happily drank the sauv blanc (which was good, but a bit pricey per glass). The environment here would make for a great place to bring someone when feeling a bit more upscale, or if you're on a date. The food was delicious, and I'm looking forward to going back and trying the full dinner menu. read more
