I stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Vintage Seattle over Veteran's Day weekend last November and was coming back from a day of adventuring when I realized I was literally starving. I tried to get a table at Tulio for a bite to eat (late lunch/early dinner type situation) but they were closing...! It was 2:25pm and I was THAT person, I ordered the gnocchi to go. I ended up eating it in my room which was not a big deal but I know it would have been even better if I was able to dine in. I was just pleased that Sharon was still able to accommodate me. Obviously the restaurant was empty, even though two individuals came in while I was waiting for the gnocchi to be cooked and packaged up. Both were turned away. Came here for a work dinner. We started with the burrata and tomato jam bruschetta, which was excellent. The sweet and savory parts meshed very well. Next came 2 salads, and I liked the caesar better than the arugula with egg because it had better texture and crunch. We had 2 pastas, the orrechiete and a mushroom one with linguini. Both were excellent but I liked the mushroom one slightly better due to the rich flavors. The NY strip steak was prepared very well, very impressive for such a large party (24). Went here since it was suggested by our hotel nearby. We didn't have a reservation so we waited and we were told it would be about 45 mins. But, after 25 mins we were called in and out table was ready. Food was just ok--nothing spectacular for an Italian restaurant. We ordered the Arugula salad followed by the vegetarian ravioli with hazelnuts; was not really a fan of the overall taste. Also ordered the grilled NY steak which I thought was a bit charred. It was served with potatoes au gratin which turned out to be the best tasting of all. We also had red wine with our orders. Thank you for the details. Here's your review for Tulio Restaurant: --- I needed to make a last-minute reservation for dinner on a Thursday night and decided to look at Tulio Restaurant. It was relatively close to the Fairmont Hotel, and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to try some Italian food. The ambience looked really good--warm, inviting, with a rustic feel to it. The service was excellent, and everybody was super-friendly at the restaurant. However, the food was a complete letdown. It didn't really satisfy any of our expectations. We ordered bread as an extra item for $9, which, while nice, wasn't anything special to justify the cost. I was hoping for something really authentic and flavorful in Italian food, and I ended up getting food that was well prepared, but not flavorful and a little mild for the taste. The burrata was good, but the salmon, though prepared nicely, was nothing extraordinary. The wine recommendation from our server was for an Italian wine they favored. It was okay, nothing special, though it did improve slightly as it breathed. In the end, the experience cost us $500 for a salmon dinner, bread, burrata cheese, and a bottle of wine. Given the pricing and especially compared to the dinner I had at 2120 the next night, which was amazing for half the price with all the same items, I really feel that Tulio is an overrated restaurant. It seems to be given four stars mainly because it's close to the hotels. Also to add on, I was debating whether or not to give it a four stars or three stars and kept thinking 3.5 so if the review is exactly accurate, I would say it's 3.5 stars not three but they're only choices on yelp are obviously three or four stars so I went with three because four stars seems to be just so much better. read more

It's been years since we first enjoyed Tulio & went back out of a sense of nostalgia. They did not disappoint, and they've also moved their game up. We started with a gorgeous appetizer of burrata with stone fruits - what a lovely change up for summer & not just another caprese. Their foccacia bread has a different texture than I'd had before, more like a banana bread but the outer crust was so crispy & the interior firm and fluffly. Delightful. I ordered the caviar pasta out of sheer curiosity & found the butter/lemon flavors in the sauce paired very well without overwhelming the caviar. My companion had the pork chop, which was cooked a little too much, but still flavorful and relatively moist. The biggest disappointment was hearing multiple staff members brag about their Super Tuscan wine & finding it okay, but pretty one-note, and not worth $23 a glass... I really wanted to love this place... The location is unbeatable if you are headed to a show at the nearby Benaroya afterwards. The vibe is that of an old-fashioned Italian establishment, more on the "smart casual" end of the spectrum, what with dark wood accents and dim chandelier lights. The food, to me, was also a bit on the "old-fashioned" side, with a few surprises here and there, e.g., the addition of squash and cabbage to burrata. The service was friendly, albeit a bit overzealous at times. This place is most definitely respected by its devoted clientele, judging by a few groups that seem to be regulars. I expected this place to be good and it exceeded my expectations! The service was on point from the hostess, to the bartender, and the manager checking in. The portions were generous but I had to try the Escarole Caesar, Orecchiette, Olive Oil Cake, and Smoke and Mirrors. It was the little additions they recommended that earned these fives stars. I was given the option to add anchovies to the salad, which paired perfectly with the red sauce. It added umami the way fish sauce does to tomato based pasta sauces. I ordered my second Smoke and Mirrors cocktail as a double and my bartender, Caitlin, made sure it was still balanced given my preference for a booze-forward drink. The best part was the vibe. The dim lighting, tunes (Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra...), and the decor made this an ideal dining spot for me. Highly recommend this place and I'm not just saying that because they carded me. If I lived here, I would come back often, especially knowing that they have seasonable menu options. Oh! My husband and I went to Tulio for an anniversary lunch and it was a fantastic meal. I started with a smoke and mirrors cocktail, he had an Italian beer. We shared the pizza confit and the chicken with charred lemon risotto. The chicken takes half an hour to prepare but is definitely worth the wait. Think hardwood walls and cozy booths where you can settle in and really focus on the food. We shared the bread plate and Caesar salad to start. The bread was fresh and soft and came with both butter topped with flaky salt and a bright fruity olive oil to pair with it. I also really enjoyed the pickles on the side. The salad was big enough to share and we liked the breadcrumbs in lieu of large and unwieldy croutons. For dinner I enjoyed the ravioli filled with cheese and greens--it was a great combination of flavors in the filling and the nuts and buttery sauce provided perfect contrast. My husband liked the orecchiette with sausage as well. For dessert we split the chocolate pot de creme which looks small, but is very rich and plenty for 2 people to share! The evening was practically ruined by the suit wearing manager? assistant manager? flunky in training? who sent the bartender on an errand so he could root through the corner cabinets with his phone light with all the grace of an ICE agent looking for illegal aliens until she came back, whereupon he made an embarrassingly flimsy excuse about what he was doing and then tuck-tailed it out from behind the bar. We were staying at the hotel in the same building (you can get to the restaurant from there but apparently its not associated with the hotel). I highly recommend making a reservation as space seems to fill up quickly here. We selected an early dinner time and were seated promptly. Service was fast and attentive and the food good. My partner had the ravioli and I had the chicken, and later for desert, tried the olive oil cake. It was very good! The prices are a bit high for my liking though. Also, I was concerned that us tourist types dressed in shorts and a Tee might be looked down upon, but didn't have to worry about it in the end. We were staying overnight at the adjoining Kimpton Hotel and didn't want to get the car out and brave the weather and iffy parking in downtown Seattle. So we made a reservation at Tulio. What a great decision! We arrived a bit early and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. Drinks were excellent. Then we moved on to dinner and were seated at a cozy booth against the wall, which helped muffle the noise from a busy restaurant. We shared the entree mussels tagliatelle as an appetizer. SO GOOD! Pasta was clearly homemade and the mussels succulent in a light broth. Hubby had the Italian sausage orecchiette, which was fantastic. But the star of the evening was my lamb shank, cooked to perfection, seasoned even better, and with enough left over for the next evening. The service was amazingly good. Post pandemic, restaurants seem to be struggling with finding and training staff. That doesn't appear to be the case at Trulio. Our waiter, Chris, was very inattentive to us but so much more attentive to another table. I watched him refill glasses of water while mine remained near empty. The burrata is something the chef is trying out and taking bold steps on however if they can read this I would say it's a bit on the Mexican ceviche side. I'm giving Tulio a 3/5 stars because it's been a few weeks since we've visited and I honestly can't remember what I even ordered. I usually take pictures of my food but this time I did not. After reviewing the menu I do know we ordered the beets salad (the seed crisp was memorable for my husband). I asked my husband and he said it was dingy, our waitress was new, and my pasta dish wasn't good. He took photos instead and that jogged my memory on why we didn't enjoy this as much as we should have. Half my family is Italian and we've perfected our bolognese sauce, so whenever we order it at a restaurant it's not nearly as flavorful. This bolognese tasted purely beef, which isn't bad but you miss the flavor from the fat of Italian sausage. This bolognese is missing that fennel sausage, thyme, rosemary, and sage flavors. I came here with my co-workers for a work lunch/gathering. This is one of my co-worker's girlfriend's fav Italian restaurant, so we are excited to try it out. The restaurant has a fairly small menu and it's typical Italian. The server was really nice and friendly, he went over the whole menu for each dish and with his own recommendations. We ordered sweet potato gnocchi to share (good for 2-3 people), the sweet potato flavor was not strong, the sweetness level was 2-3/10 and it was creamy and heavy. All of us liked it. This can actually be an entree. We also ordered a pizza to share, it had 6 pieces and it was very delicious and cheezy. We had our own entree, some of us ordered pasta, risotto and I ordered calzone. The calzone is giant (can probably shared by 2-3 people...)! It is pretty salty (probably good pairing with wine?) I was only able to finish 1/4 of it and packed the rest home. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a hotel, and the ambiance is cozy and the lights are dimmed. $30+ a meal without any drink. read more
