Came here on a Weds night for Happy Hour. Drinks and appetizers were great! Our bartender was awesome, even while training another girl. She was super attentive and on top of everything. The only reason I'm giving this place three stars is because the MANAGEMENT is extremely unprofessional. One older lady with blonde hair said out loud, in front of everyone at the bar that the bartender was going to have to PAY OUT OF POCKET for an order that was placed wrong. I have worked in the restaurant industry for years, in the past and I couldn't imagine being on eggshells, trying to not make a mistake because I would have to pay for it. Was at Tula Kitchen recently. Had the shrimp quinoa entree which was ok. The flavor was decent but the shrimp looked unappetizing. Maybe that was my fault bc I assumed the shrimp would be grilled but when it arrived the shrimp was almost steamed, which was not appealing to me. I was hoping for some nice grill marks! The dish was nothing fancy at all with very basic ingredients but was $26! Very overpriced. The portions (and menu) are extra large. Almost to a fault. This isn't Applebees - it is supposed to be a more elevated experience and diners don't need (or expect) a pound of pasta. Guess they need to justify their unreasonably high prices? Went to this place tonight for my wife's birthday. This place is awful. Flat out awful. We were seated at a row of tables that were EXTREMELY close to each other. So close that if you stand next to your chair, your butt is directly in your neighbors face. The service was PAINFULLY slow as well. I had the chicken Reuben which was good, but wayyyyy over priced. My wife had the dragon love dish which she enjoyed, but was even more overpriced. Quinoa and a few mixed vegetables should NOT cost $19. An absolute joke. I understand this is a vegetarian/vegan friendly place but can they please have 1 meat option??? When we finished our meal and additional 20 minutes he passed the waitress finally came over to clear the plates. She brought the dessert menus over without even asking if we were interested in dessert. Another 10 minutes passes after we were clearly not looking At the dessert menu anymore and the waitress finally comes back and we ask for the check. More time passes until we get the check and even more time for her to take my credit card. Not once did they ask about drink refills. At the end of the night I paid $35 for 2 dishes worth no more than $21. OVERPRICED AND PAINFULLY SLOW. A very small tip was left and I can proudly say I will never return to this INFERIOR restaurant. Recently had lunch at Tula. The food is excellent. However the service was absolutely terrible. Our waitress never asked us if we wanted a drink. We waited a good half hour for 2 salads that should have taken no more than 10 minutes to serve. When the waitress asked how everything was, I replied that the food took way too much time to come out of the kitchen. Her only response was "sorry". Then at just before 3 pm it appeared that the entire wait staff went on break. I had to " scramble" to find someone to give us our check. Bottom line is - totally absent management during lunch service. read more

Food was mediocre and the hostess was outright rude. My mother had just received her coffee when The hostess asked us to leave because others were waiting for a table. If they needed the table, why serve the coffee in the first place? They should have simply informed us that we had no time for coffee and/or hand it to us in a "to go" cup. Ate here for the first time this evening. I was a bit apprehensive & afraid it would be not what I hoped. It's hard to find a place that does really great vegan as well as non vegan dishes. To begin we ordered the BBQ cauliflower salad. The concept could work, however when it arrived it was totally over dressed in ranch dressing & BBQ sauce. Leaving it really soggy! Total over kill, I suggest getting the dressing on the side. I ordered the tofu "crab cakes" as a recommendation by out waitress. As anyone who eats tofu knows it's very flavorless. Which means you need to jazz it up real good. These crab less cakes were also flavorless! Basically was just a flattened fried piece of soft tofu. Now if you added some traditional crab cake spices such as old bay, red or green peppers, onions etc that would make a world of difference. But biggest turn off was the bed of wilted bagged greens it's served on. I mean that stuff went out of "plating style" 10 yrs ago! My boyfriend ordered a shrimp & pasta dish which was nothing special. I could have made it better at home! Over all I think the menu has potential. But it certainly needs tweaking. read more

Tula Kitchen has everything a great restaurant should have: beautiful and clean surroundings, friendly and helpful waitstaff, delicious and healthy dishes, and fresh and sustainably sourced ingredients (some items are organic or local). My boyfriend and I are both vegan and we have been here 3 times. The food was beautifully presented and consistently great every time. Since Tula Kitchen offers non-vegan menu items, it is a great place to go with omni-friends. To start off, Tula delivers a complimentary plate of white bean salad with pita bread to every table. Our favorite dishes are the tempeh reuben sandwich, the peanut seitan with coconut basmati, and the tofu crab cakes. We have also tried the chocolate cupcake, which is delivered fresh from a local vegan bakery in Babylon. The vegan menu only offers about 7 dishes or so, but the waiter informed us that certain things on the regular menu can be made vegan with tofu, tempeh, or seitan. The restaurant is always busy, so definitely make reservations in advance! The food takes a little long to arrive, but I appreciate that because I know it's made fresh and with care. read more

Went here this past Wednesday night with 8:15 pm reservations. I was on a date. When we arrived the guy running the place said he was trying to contact us by cellphone to come in earlier because the kitchen was closing early, There was approximately 7 tables with diners occupying the restaurant at this time plus a tarot card reader, We sat down and as we were looking over the menu the same guy started closing things up. The front door that was opened to let the fresh air in was now closed. The sign board that sits on the sidewalk was taken in. The whole night felt very rushed and unwelcoming. It was very clear to us that our business was not appreciated and clearly the restaurant must be doing very well in this struggling economy to push customers out the door. I will not spend my hard earned dollar at this establishment again, I will take it to a place has true customer service. read more

First time and the last time at this place with my wife - which is sad cause Bayshore is usually good for restaurants. We were in here this past weekend and we were totally disgusted. Waitress was not only rude to us, the food was also pretty garbage. The drinks took forever (not mixed, literally just on the rocks!) and the place was pretty hot (temperature wise). We asked for certain accommodations for our food (diet/allergy) that were not met and when we asked the waitress why, we were told the kitchen was "too busy". I think this is just waiter lingo for "I didn't put it in let me cover my own butt" LOL! The inside is nice but that is no reason to go here. I also was intrigued that the managers were MIA of our situation but then again - we were so disgusted we didn't even ask for them cause we weren't coming back. Whatever you do in Bayshore, Tula's should be the last place on your list, if even on it at all. Disgusted, would give it zero stars if I could to be quite honest :( read more

The business practice of the restaurant is hostile to the customer. We called to set up a reservation and we were required to give a credit card in case of not showing. (never heard of such a thing). They charge extra for sharing dishes, for vegan cheese substitutions, etc. They promoted themselves as a vegan restaurant. We ordered a kids vegan cheese with veggies and beans. At first we got a pizza with only cheese and not veggies, we asked to add the veggies and they did but with half cook veggies and no beans. The dishes are too salty and nothing special about them. We got 4 vegan dishes one veggie and one with seafood. We all agreed that the food was alright, but not worth the price. On the other hand, the wait staff was nice and friendly. I appreciated how nice they were to my kid. It's great that they are making an effort to bring vegan food to LI, but it needs more work. I was looking forward to try this place and at the end it was overpriced and nothing special about the flavor of their dishes. We were a little surprised they didn't have our table ready, despite having made reservations a week in advance. We waited at the bar for over half an hour. It would've been a nice gesture to comp an appetizer or something. Otherwise, the drinks were fabulous! The Tula Punch is very satisfying (but don't have too many!) and in a generously-sized glass. Appetizers were tasty with enough for our group of eight. The Brie came with grapes and an assortment of bread and the pita with hummus was amazing. As for the entrees, they did not disappoint! The chicken kabob was tender and delicious, the almond crushed chicken came with a glaze unlike anything I've ever tasted. They did not have the turkey tacos, but substituted chicken, which continued to satisfy. Excellent portions. Fresh and tasty, well worth the price of admission. Had it not been for the slight foul caused by the wait time despite having reservations, this would've been a 5/5. read more

We recently became vegan and heard they had some great options. We walked into a NYC ambiance feel with tasteful Halloween decorations (this is the season). The wait staff started out great with recommendations and drinks on the table quickly. A starter that is a must is the stuffed avacado, ordered with no feta! After we caught our breath we realized how busy the place had become, not to mention it was Saturday. But that's when it went down hill from there. You can see the staff was overwhelmed and the service showed it. I was ready to spend some more money on the red sangria that was fantastic, the issue was the empty glass was on the table for over 15 minutes and no server around. Any of the staff should realize that and sell another glass of sangria, make the money. Add another server or two and this issue will go away. Went to tulas for the first time yesterday (Sunday) , the addition is beautiful I must say. My sister and I came in for a quick app and drinks. We did actually have to sit ourselves..the hostess were NO where to be found and we were standing there for at least 8 minutes. So we took it upon ourselves to grab our menu' s and sat at the bar. I wouldn't have cared at all doing that but after we sat down a bunch of people also came in and they were welcomed with a warm greeting by two hosts.. not sure why we didn't get the same treatment. Anyways other than that the bartender was awesome!, he made our drinks so good and he was such a sweet heart so it made us feel way better. The apps were really good as well. For sure coming back but hope the hosts get it together because it is an awesome spot. read more

This used to be our favorite restaurant. Always loved the food. This past weekend we took the family for dinner for my birthday. Everything was enjoyable until the check came. We gave the girl a credit card and she brought back the credit card receipts. The bill was $396. We were a group of 6 and it seemed a bit high. At that point I requested to see an itemized bill, which I should have received in the first place. When she then brought it to me all crumpled up as if I was never meant to see it I reviewed the bill and I see that the restaurant automatically included the Gratuity of $61.60. I had no idea that with groups of 6 or more they automatically add this on. When I questioned the waitress she said it's stated on the menu. I never noticed it (in very small print in dim lighting). I was about to add a $60 tip since they held back giving me the itemized bill. When I spoke to the manager she said if I left an additional tip she would have returned it. I highly doubt that. I just want other people to be aware of this and not end up paying double gratuity!! I wonder how many other people have had this happen to them at Tula's?? read more

Went to Tula kitchen this past Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Arrived in bayshore around 4 intending to go to verde which we like but happened to look at tula's menu and decided to come back at 5 when they opened bc they had outside tables and the menu looked good. The bf loves that Mediterranean style of food. Went to verde, had cocktail and then returned. Had never been there before and were delighted to find the whole restaurant opened up via garage style doors. As usual we sat at the bar, but we loved the decor. It was sort of modern romantic with white chairs and a very large pink velvet banquet. I ordered a coconut martini with modifications (not so much sugar), it was not a problem. As is often the case there was no scotch suitable for my man so he decided on a cucumber margarita off the drink menu. The young man bartending was accommodating and personable. Drinks were actually perfect. We had 2 rounds of the same thing. I ordered a bowl of mussels. They were ok. Sometimes mussels are just a little off. Could've used garlic maybe. Also ordered the falafel appetizer with tzatziki substitute. They were very good, much better than the attempt I made at home last week. For a meal we shared the chicken kabob. It came with 2 skewers served over a warm pita with a good sized bowl of hummus and a side Greek style salad. The chicken was very good, not "suspect" as my bf likes to say. We ended up taking home some chicken and the hummus, was a nice sized portion. Everything arrived in a timely manner and we never felt ignored even when the bartender started to get busy. Overall we highly recommend, everything seemed fresh and was delicious. We are looking forward to returning. read more

Just had dinner at thiis restaurant in BayShore..shared an app of honey ricotta, Brie, roasted veggies, fruit & crusty whole grain bread..mouth watering!! The ricotta was as smooth as whipped cream. Entree of Veggie Mousakka was in a bath of the most delicious tomato sauce..the layered eggplant & potatoes was served with warm pita..the stuffed acorn squash was diced to perfection with every bite a delight..the turkey meatballs with zucchini spaghetti put an interesting twist on the Italian dish..scallops were another favorite!! Dessert was a shortbread with warm coconut & pralines..the Key Lime pie was one you do not want to miss..French pressed coffee..all good...worth a trip from anywhere!!! read more

Tula Kitchen is just fabulous! The staff is warm and friendly and the food is delicious! They offer a unique and varied menu that can meet just about anyone's tastes. During the week (Tuesday-Friday) they offer a breakfast/lunch menu. It was just seasonally updated. I recently tried the new hummus bowl and it was fabulous. The roasted vegetables, warm pita, falafel, and outstanding fresh hummus were filling and delicious. If you haven't tried the chicken bowl it is a long time favorite of mine along with the Israeli couscous salad, Cobb salad, and warm winter bowl. My kids love the breakfast items on the kids menu! Dinner is served Tuesday-Sunday. My husband and I make it to dinner there at least once a week. There are probably 30 options or more to choose from. The balsamic salmon, almond chicken, turkey meatballs, shrimp quinoa, chicken bowl, and Korean burger are just a few of the fabulous choices. This was my favorite restaurant for quite some while. Unfortunately the staff themselves ruined my desire or willingness to ever return again. Meals are not cheap and my mother and I were told we can finish our drinks and opt for dessert at the bar if we choose to stay. Tula Kitchen is a must try! The menu has many great vegan/vegetarian options and non-vegan options. There is something for everyone and all dishes are delicious. Have been here a few times and everyone is always happy. The tofu scramble will keep you coming back. I usually order the vegan salad platter, scoop each of "egg" salad, "chicken" salad and "tuna" salad as an appetizer. Even non-vegans enjoy it. They have many desserts to choose from. The vegan cupcake is fantastic. Service is quick and attentive. There is plenty of metered parking in the municipal lot behind the restaurant. I love Tula's food. The healthy options and delish flavors are perfect! However, the salad and bowl sizes compared to the prices drops it down from 4 to 3 stars for me. The chicken bowl has three cubes of chicken and a handful of kale, among other healthy and good ingredients. The problem is to really be healthy the bowl doesn't have enough calories and protein to sustain for a lunch. This is the same with other dishes I have gotten there as well. For the high price tag, I would expect to get a bit more on my dish. read more

I love, love, love this place! I like the décor and feel of this place. It has dim lighting.. 3 stand candles on each table. nice bar area! Definitely good for a date or group of people. We went on a Sunday night about 7ish and we didn't have to wait long for a table. People were nice and service was good. I rrreally liked my food and drinks were good. First they give on the house delicious pita and bean salad..very good! for apptz we had the spinach pie with tzatziki sauce and I loved it!!! it also was a nice portion to share..4 pieces. Then we had Sesame crusted tuna with Asian slaw and the slaw was delicious! Main dish...I had Almond Crusted Chicken and it was delicious..it has a nice sweet apricot sauce on it..also comes with a salad. b/f had chicken kabobs..large portion and it tasted good! Now for dessert.. I wanted to try the vegan cupcake even though i'm not a vegan..i was curious and it was very good..but the Rico Suave Brownie Sundae was the winner!!! the sundae was delicious....it had pieces of brownie layered with vanilla icecream and little whip cream and sprinkles and it tasted delicious!!! I have to start by saying that I really love Tula. I have been going there over the last 8 years or so and the food is consistently good. However as time goes on the prices keep increasing and I feel like you get "less". Don't get me wrong their entrees are decent sized portions but what really annoyed me is that they took away the complimentary bean salad and pita! And now they give you nothing as you are waiting for your apps and entrees, which do take a while to come out. If I'm paying over $20 for an entree I would expect bread or something for the table? I almost never leave there without spending over $100 for two people, I think that warrants some pita and bean salad! I still love you though Tula.. read more

The food here is great, but don't go if your in a hurry. The service is slow and it was hard to even get the waitresses attention, we felt like we were being ignored at times. Also as a vegan coffee lover, I was disapointed to find out that a soy cappuccino was not able to be made and the waitress was full of lame excuses.
