We came here as a group and really enjoyed our meal here. The service was fast (under 10 minutes for 4 separate meals) and also very friendly. I ordered the veggie burger and my partner ordered the Brie and ham sandwich with a side of broccoli cheddar soup. The veggie burger was perfect in terms of mix of veggies, flavor and freshness and both sandwiches came with a small side of tortilla chips and fresh salsa. We also ordered a side of French fries which were also fresh. Our least favorite thing was the broccoli cheddar soup, which was a little more watery than we would have liked. Others in our party ordered a cheeseburger and an "ah love" chicken sandwich and they liked their food. I ordered a fresh lemonade and it was homemade and tasted great. The food here is very fresh and reasonably priced and very enjoyable overall. We would definitely come back the next time we are here! I used to love Batata and still kind of do love their food but I will never come back. On 5/26, I ordered the Zen burger after coming back from the hospital and giving birth to my son a few days earlier. Looking for a burger, I picked the Zen burger which was not listed as having walnuts. I even called the restaurant to confirm this burger was nut free. When I bit into this burger, within 30 seconds, I realized something was wrong when my lips started swelling up and my throat started to close in. My husband called the restaurant back and again asked if the zen burger had walnuts. I was assured that it did not. When I said, please go ask the kitchen, the person on the phone did and confirmed, "oh, it does have a little bit of walnuts in it". I don't think that the people working here understood the severity of this and they offered a refund of the meal that we threw away. Wow, how generous! I spoke to the manager and she just said sorry and that the owner would contact us. We wound up having to go to the hospital over this, after just leaving with our newborn. What a day. It's been a week and my husband has stopped by the talk to the owner but she hasn't been there and has not called, emailed, or done anything since. I don't care if she is busy, it honestly doesn't matter, this is important and I needed some reassurance that this would never happen again to anyone since someone else could have died from this but that never happened. I guess she is just too busy to care. Unfortunately, this is a local business that I used to love but I will never come back and would advise anyone with a food allergy to go somewhere else. Great food and great service. The menu is stacked with so many delicious options. My normal go to is a California chicken on ciabatta bread. I promise you won't regret it if your having a difficult time choosing what to eat. The store is conveniently located on a Main Street with plenty of parking. If you choose to dine in you'll always have a seat as they offer indoor and outdoor dining options. Staff are all great and greet with smiles and warm welcomes. Batata is a clean store and they take pride on their appearance with clean glass and nice decorations. They also offer wine in a can which is interesting. I really really wanted to love this place! The menu looked delicious so I just had to try it. They do offer limited indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. The place was pretty busy so it took a little long to get our order, but it just made me more excited to try the food. We ordered the buffalo seitan wrap and the ranchero burrito. Both of these orders bring a nice portion so make sure you bring an empty stomach! The ranchero burrito was nice and moist and flavorful. On the other hand the seitan wrap had me a little bit confused. I honestly did not really taste any buffalo. I also noticed that the "blue cheese" sauce was not included in my wrap. I told the waitress and she immediately got me more sauce. After a while trying to eat the seitan wrap I noticed that it was extremely salty. I felt bad about sending it back so I decided to just not finish it. I'm not sure if they were going for salty, but it was way too much salt, my mouth dried up right away. We also ordered some sweet potato fries and let me tell you that those are probably one of the best fries I've had in a long time. They had the right balance between sweet and salty! We also dipped them in the vegan cilantro aioli which was so creamy and full of flavor. Of course we had to finish the meal with some vegan ice Cream cookies which were pretty good, I just say $5 per cookie is a bit extreme, but I guess majority of vegan food is expensive. Overall the service was good and the food was ok too. Might give it another try! If you're looking for a delicious quick by, don't hesitate to stop. Batata Cafe certainly exceeded our needs. They have plenty of options and our choices were prepared very well. They included pancakes with cranberry butter, the friendly farmer (sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, and eggs served in a wrap with a very nice apple on the side), and a ham and cheese omelette cooked as good as any five star restaurant with a generous amount of ham. They have many cheese options. Choose the smoked Gouda! They also have many other items on display, including chocolate. The seating area is also attached to Macadoo's Grille. I've been meaning to try out Batata Café for a while because they sell Lorene's homemade vegan ice cream (she runs the volunteer efforts at Lewis Oliver).
