Enjoyed a dinner with friends at this cute little spot hidden away near the water in Bridgeport. They had this fun little book nook for us to browse while we waited for our friends. The service was very hands off (you picked up your food at a window at the front) but super quick! We ordered the vegan cheese plate to start, which was tasty and I got the ginger beer while my friend got the pineapple coconut, both of which were tasty! For dinner I got the coconut pineapple curry which was delicious (I cleaned my plate!) though not spicy. I also tried my friend's Jamaican jerk "chicken" and that's what I will order next time! Thanks for the friendly folks there for a nice dining experience.

This a vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Bridgeport. They also have a feminist book store there. They have a dining room, an outdoor area, and there's a pretty beach outside and there's seating there, too. They're popular for takeout, too. They sell a cookbook, it's a calendar. and have some cool things you can buy. Give yourself time to look around! The desserts are great. They have foods from different ethnic groups, too. You can meet the owners and learn about the history. Highly recommend you visit. Unique place!

Wow, what a find. Esoteric, eclectic, exotic -- amazing -- feminist bookstore / vegan restaurant that has been serving the larger community for decades. I learned about it from the cookbook I purchased many years ago. If you're anywhere near Bridgeport, CT, take a trip to Bloodroot (aka Sanguinaria canadensis)! Delicious and healthy!

Cambodian Kanji soup, Injara Dinner, and local apple cider

Ordered the Cambodian Kanji Soup and Injara Dinner. Also had the local apple cider. Everything was delicious. The Injara dinner is authentic Ethiopian food. The soup hit the spot and perfect for the cool temps. So good that we finished everything. There's hot water, room temperature water and lemon wedge that you can self serve. Also perused the bookstore. It had a lot of gems (good books) and photo albums of the owners. Also was able to talk to the owners and friends of the owners; it felt like talking to old friends. Such good conversations. The whole place felt homey. Wish we had enough time to visit again during our trip. Will be back next time!

New "burger" and mushroom quiche -- both delicious!

I'm not vegetarian. This is hands-down one of the best restaurants in Connecticut. Whenever non-local friends visit me from now on, this is where I'll take them. I was blown away by everything I tried -- the new "burger", mushroom quiche, and the Brazilian couscous for dessert. I felt like I could TASTE the skill of the cooks -- the flavors and textures of everything were just perfect! I literally bought their vegetarian cookbook before ordering dessert. Again, I'm not vegetarian! It's THAT good. The outdoor seating is by the water and it has a great atmosphere on a sunny spring day. The inside of the store is so full of history and I enjoyed browsing the little feminist bookstore. I really hope Bloodroot is here to stay for decades to come!

This place is wonderful for people are looking to stray from the mainstream eateries. I found this place to be nurturing to both my mind and stomach. The food was freshly cooked by hand by the amazing cooks in the kitchen. I enjoyed the avocado toast and the best chocolate mousse I ever had. This place has a rich charm and even has a space to look around at secondhand books. If you have a chance to visit this place I would highly recommend it. Just as a heads up to others in a similar situation, I tend to be very tasty to mosquitos and since this place was next to the water I had to spray myself down with mosquito repellent! Otherwise it was a great trip.

Bloodroot is an absolute institution. I have been coming to this feminist enclave with my mother and aunt for years. Delicious vegan food and perfect ambiance! Try everything, and make sure to get the bread sampling!

The Food Is Amazing! ... healthy, hearty, filling, Fresh, affordable, Vegan, Vegetarian Atmosphere Is Comfortable, Inviting, books to read There Or Purchase Seating For Outside / Inside The Owners are Present ... either in the kitchen and/or conversing with you ... I am definitely going back ... possibly on a regular

This is such a cute place. I came here with my dad and was surprised by the home like, almost quaint feeling. The staff are so nice! We really had a nice time. I did not eat because I had already eaten and this was a spontaneous trip. But I had coffee and watched my dad eat..LOL. He is a picky eater! He LOVED his food! It seems everything is made from scratch here. I plan to go back and next time have a meal! The re is plenty of parking here and for People seeking Veg choices this is a great option!

For many years we have enjoyed the feminist vibe, good food, self-service, bookstore, ambience. A bit far from Manhattan.

Tucked in downtown Bridgeport with easy street…read moreand garage parking nearby, 29 Markle Court walks in with serious style -- the decor is chic, the atmosphere is warm and cool at the same time, and it genuinely feels like somewhere you'd expect to find in a much bigger city. Drinks first: my slightly dirty martini was made exactly right. My friend went with cosmo and it was equally on point. Whoever is behind that bar has their act together. Then the food happened. We started with grilled bread with an EVOO, agave, and chile dip -- sounds simple, ate like a statement. The char on the bread, the heat and sweetness of that dip. Good sign of things to come. Main event: shrimp and grits. Guinea flint grits, spicy red sauce, sage, stock. I don't say this lightly -- this is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The grits were creamy and rich, the sauce had real depth and heat, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The whole bowl just worked on every level. Dessert: goat cheesecake with pistachio dust and berry compote. Tangy, creamy, not too sweet, and that pistachio dust on top was a perfect finish. We cleared the plate.

Finally got around to trying 29 Markle, twice…read more Everything sampled was great. Service was good, though a little more knowledge on the menu would've been nice. The chef owner came out personally to check on everyone. We will be back.

I finally visited around 3:15 on a recent Saturday afternoon. The space is very nice and includes high ceilings, cool light fixtures, light colored woods and white chairs. Service is helpful, efficient and friendly. I asked for a recommendation because I like ramen, pho, curry noodles and the other soups on the menu. The server recommended Curry Crispy Chicken Noodles, but she warned I might think they're spicy. I loved these noodles. The curry broth was flavorful, but not too spicy. The noodles had great texture. The crispy chicken was very satisfying. The potatoes and carrots were well executed. The punches of cilantro were very fresh. It was a great bowl of noodles. If I lived nearby, I'd be back soon to explore more of the menu. In any event, I'll make sure I come back. 5 Stars

We had Lucia as our server, way better than the one we had last time. Thank goodness. Our food came out quickly. This time I got the crispy chili chicken skewers as an appetizer. It tasted fresh and clean with a great crisp. I got curry noodle with fried chicken. I put the top pieces to the side to protect it from getting soggy. It was perfect. I like how the table has chili sauce available to add spice to anything. To drink I got a house made black tea, a lychee martini, and a mai tai; all tasted good. My son got the pork boa buns, next time I'm going to try that. My daughter got a happy birthday fried ice cream for dessert. Said she'll come back again.

I don't care if you're full, get the cookies to go! Must try Breakfast isn't your ordinary diner food. They have created some fantastic omelette combinations. The homefries have a hint of rosemary and are very tasty. The shredded pork I had on my egg quesadilla was tender and delish. The pico was fresh and tasty. The green sauce also yummy Pancakes- 2 huge plate sized pancakes were some of the tastiest I've ever had. Yum! Kale, chorizo, cheese scramble - the bomb! The kale really made it. I am not a huge kale fan but in this I loved it! Came with homefries but no toast which was fine. Oatmeal cookie - best I've ever had Chocolate chip cookie- warm chewy delicious Chocolate chip walnut - even better Chocolate chip sea salt - over the top delicious People were coming in and buying a dozen cookies to go and I can see why. Parking is a pain, but it's in a historical area of Bridgeport, so there's not really much they can do about that. Their lemonades are amazing in the summer and during fall and winter, their selection of hot chocolates and other holiday themed items are always a hit. The cookies and other pastries always sell out before I can even get any, which I think is a testament to how good they must be. My favorite sandwich is the Mikey T.
