Work team lunch was casual and it was good that we were easygoing because the service was a disaster. First a colleague was served a pineapple beverage that our server assured us was lemon-lime ... despite other drinks garnished with lemon and lime slices. Colleague is allergic to pineapple, so that was an issue. It took four tries to get our bill correct -- we were charged for 8 drinks when we had 4, double-charged for an entree, then CC processed for a completely wrong total (think a $30 charge instead of $180). Finally got it right... and they call me later that day because they can't find the receipt. The amount charged on my card never did match up to my receipt, but I give up. On a positive note, the food was well done and the menu is full of strong choices. From a front-of-house aspect, it needs work. read more

Beautiful huge space inside but we were seated right in the middle by the front which was awkward and I didn't love. The food here is very interesting and different from other places which can be both a good and bad thing. Everything is super healthy as well and I like that they tell you the calories of everything on the menu. I really loved their iced Matcha drink, and I thought that it was a unique drink. I also tried the edamame dumplings, which were delicious and so light! For my entrée, I try the Penang curry with steak. It was way sweeter than any other Penang curry I have tried and not spicy at all. It had kind of a weird sweetness to it, but it was good overall and not heavy or creamy by any means. However, authentic Penang curry is way better. I got this dish with steak and I wish there was more steak in it but the steak was very tender and not dry at all. We stopped by for dinner. The place was not busy and we were able to get outside seating with no trouble. We didn't order starters and went straight for our food - ordered 4 dishes. The food took like 15 minutes to arrive, the 3 bowls were all good + tasty and the food was (luke) warm but my son's hamburger was cold with the sides (sweet potato fries) unevenly cooked, although he still liked his meal, and wants to come back. (I've been asking him not to create a fuss over small things). Needless to say the food is pricey even by Reston standards and thus the food and the service needs to be flawless to justify that high(er) price - and today they left it a bit wanting. This location has a fresh look that is cool and inviting. The open feel of the restaurant is nice. The menu offers lots of great fresh options with seasonal soups and salads. I had the mushroom pizza which has a thin crust. It never thought I would describe pizza as light, but this one definitely is. My family and I really used to enjoy going here. However, the quality of the service has declined dramatically. After we arrived for our reservation and were seated, it took 17 minutes for a waiter to come to our table and take our drink order--and they only came after I physically got up from the table and asked the people at the front desk to please send a waiter over. We then waited for another long stretch for our drinks and our food, which arrived to our table cold and thus did not taste good. We were not the only ones having this problem; there was another table who came in around the same time as us and also had to get up and ask the front desk to be served. They chose to leave rather than put up with the unacceptably poor service, and I don't blame them in the slightest. I was frankly embarrassed to have brought my dad there for what was supposed to be an enjoyable father's day outing. We will not be back. read more

Last week we went there for brunch at their soft opening. We have always been a big fan of True Food. Glad that it's open in Reston now, which is more closer to us! We had Edamame Dumplings, Egg and Chicken Sausage Sandwich, Spicy Tuna Spring Rolls, and Sparkling Mango Tea. One thing I would say, True food has never disappointed us!! They don't take allergies serious. I don't know if the server thought I was making it up or what but I literally have an allergy to green beans yet my dish ended up with green beans despite pointing it out! I had the chicken sausage pizza and we split one of the best burgers I've ever had in a restaurant; I can recommend both! I really enjoyed my experience but they were out of several menu items. I've been for lunch and dinner now and think it works well for both. We went on a Thursday evening and it wasn't too noisy and were seated right away. The atmosphere is pretty casual although there were several couples there on a mid-week date night. They have a full bar, so even grabbing a few drinks here would be a nicer, more relaxed option than Jackson's down the block. I appreciated the seasonal menu and found plenty of options to accommodate my pescatarian diet. Service was really off and my fish, although relatively flavorful, was really fishy smelling. The smell grossed out my poor partner, so maby next time I'll stick to the warm bowls and salads I love instead. read more

The food was pretty incredible but the low level of service killed our experience during our visit. We were one of three tables total in the restaurant and our waiter only had two of those but we still didn't have a good experience. We had to remind him of basic things like water, dishes piling up, process the credit cards sitting there for 20 mins etc. This is in addition to some other things when ordering food and drinks: For example - we'd ask what the special drink was and the answer would be "I'm not sure" instead of "let me check". We tried to order a bottle instead of a glass of wine but he said he already put the order in and couldn't change it... which is fair since we changed our mind but in most restaurants they'd just have a manager nix the glass before it arrives and bring the bottle ? Came for Mother's Day brunch with a 6 and 9 year old. We arrived at opening, and were one of the first tables seated. No kids options for brunch, just lunch/dinner items. We ordered pancakes for the kids, just to be told after the order went in that they were out of pancakes. This seems like terrible planning, no pancakes on Mother's Day for brunch?! the The regular menu isn't super kid friendly and the only kids options are lunch items that aren't appealing at 10:30 am. Server seemed a bit inexperienced and not totally comfortable yet. We had a few plates and drinks cleared before we were finished - pet peeve ! After Covid, people have forgotten what being in the service industry is all about. I walked into the restaurant at 5:42 PM on a Monday. I was greeted and directed to sit anywhere. I sat at the bar and was shown a QR code. I was then instructed to order through the app if I wanted anything. While this may be picky, it was kind of sad to see as there was very few people in the restaurant and I was the only person at the bar. You would think that the bartender would have enough time to serve me. It would be nice for things to go back to normal where servers actually wait on their patrons instead of just expecting them to do everything through the app. I'll be getting dinner somewhere else where I can experience what I'm apparently tipping for. Hmm. Wasn't super impressed with this location of True Food. I've been to the Mosaic location once before and was relatively pleased with this experience. It seems that the RTC True Food has some kinks to work out. I brought my friend here to celebrate her birthday, she had never been here before and was excited. We didn't make a reservation (on a Saturday night) until kind of late, but the hostess we talked to was very nice and accommodating (...even when we showed up a little late). We were seated immediately at a corner booth, which was nice and spacious for just the two of us! The space of the restaurant itself is gorgeous, very roomy and decorated with lots of plants and nature-themed decor. When our waiter arrived, he asked us if we'd ever been, and I told him I'd been to another location but that my friend had not. He gave us his whole spiel about True Food and said something along the lines of, "well, we don't serve soda or fried food here." He also pulled the wine glasses from the table immediately, which was funny to us since we have both been of age for a while. I ordered the grilled chicken panini with the side kale salad, and my friend ordered the margherita pizza. The picture of the pizza on their online menu looked delicious, with lots of fresh mozzarella on it. My friend was really looking forward to it, because she loves margherita pizzas but finds that most places around here don't make ACTUAL margherita pizzas, and they're usually just regular cheese pizzas. Well, we even mentioned this to our waiter and he said that this would be the best margherita pizza she's ever had. Flash forward to when our food arrived and her 'margherita' pizza was, as we had feared, a regular cheese pizza with a few TINY drops of mozzarella. I'll even include a side-by-side comparison of what the pizza on their menu looks like vs. the one she got. My panini was interesting, it was served on a very thin pita bread so it was almost more of a wrap than a panini. It was definitely tasty and fresh, but it didn't hold up super well and the broccolini in a panini was an interesting choice. The side kale salad was good, no complaints there. When the waiter came around to check on us, we (politely) expressed our disappointment with the pizza. My friend even said that the pizza itself was really good, but it wasn't what she expected - there was barely any fresh mozz or basil, and no fresh tomatoes at all. The waiter was just kind of like, "well then where have you had a good one?" It could just be me but he seemed kind of sassy the whole time, almost like he thought we were annoying teenagers. Whatever, not my problem. I will say that I ordered the chocolate flourless cake as a "birthday" cake and he brought it out really nicely with the candle and everything. This was definitely the best part of the meal--it was delicious. Very dense, thick, and flavorful, and it had an interesting coconuty taste that wasn't expected but still very good.
