So glad True Food Kitchen is here. This location is closer to us. In Reston Town Center, the Blue Garage is the closest to the restaurant. Parking is free on weekends. Placed an order online which was simple and straightforward. Our order was ready when we arrived and neatly wrapped. Employees are friendly. The restaurant is spacious, neat, and organized. Their Edamame Dumplings were delicious! Delicate dumpling skin, smooth creamy edamame filling, with a lovely white truffle oil flavor. The Herb Hummus is very flavorful. Served with house-made pita. So addicting! Everything we tried was seasoned well, fresh, and made with quality ingredients. I'm so glad we got a chance to try this place out. Had really high hopes for this place after reading the reviews but was disappointed. The server was extremely slow and rarely checked on us, and didn't do the simplest things, like offer cream and sugar with our coffees or even bring a spoon for neither my coffee after I asked for cream and sugar nor for our soup. The lasagna bolognese is extremely salty, the burger is ok, the kale salad that came with it had way too much cheese on it. The only thing that was good was the grilled cheese dippers and tomato soup, but again, we were never brought a spoon for it. We wanted to get our servers attention for help but as soon as she dropped off the food she disappeared. This was also during a slow time of the day so I can only imagine how they handle volume. The restaurant itself is really cute, I just wish we had a better experience there. read more

The food here was delightful. I ordered an Ancient Grains Bowl and it was very well done. The quality of the service completely ruined the experience. I arrived just prior to 7pm on Sunday night; there were very few people in the place. I asked to sit outside and was told that service would be slow. I was advised to sit at the bar and did so. The bartender, who had no other customers, took 15 minutes to return and take my order. He walked past me several times and appeared to be making drinks for the staff rather than customers. He was chatting with other staff most of the time. My food, as noted, was outstanding, although getting my water refilled took another 15 minutes. I ordered a dessert to go. You can see the receipt on the bag - it was flourless chocolate cake and vegan ice cream. When I returned to my hotel room, there was no spoon. The staff could clearly not have been bothered to serve paying customers. I will not return. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this location. As a "true" true foods fan of the mosaic location I was excited they now opened a Reston location. I went twice in a matter of three days, both days sticking to the grass fed burger and common bond cocktail. I also tried the flourless chocolate cake (with vanilla ice cream) and squash pie. Both deserts were good not mind blowing. My only problem with the place is that the menu is more limited than the one in mosaic. One of my go to dishes (Korean noodle bowl) wasn't available. Also, I'm mad at myself for not taking pictures because my hangry took over, but next time (there will be a next time). read more

So refreshing to find a health conscious restaurant that has delicious food, drinks and fantastic service!! Honestly, my first meal here was perfect and there are ZERO complaints! The place is bright and clean with a large open indoor dining space with a visibly clean kitchen. They have outdoor seating and we took advantage of having dinner on this gorgeous night. Jess was our server and she was exceptionally friendly, provided a lot of great suggestions and answers about the menu. They have a lot of options on their menu including vegetarian and vegan options. They try to locally source a lot of their ingredients. Their hummus was absolutely delicious as was my chicken sausage pizza and my husband's shrimp tacos. The zucchini salsa verde on on his plate was so yummy as was the cauliflower mash. They have unique and delicious cocktails that are low calorie. I drank their green tea with some simple syrup which was great. The best is their chocolate flourless cake!!! Real chocolate that was rich and decadent without being overly sweet like a lot of places. I have issues with healthier dishes because they're often dry and flavorless but this was great and not overseasoned. Jess made sure our drinks were refilled and checked on us the proper amount of times and brought us our check quickly! We didn't have to wait half an hour for someone to come back to us after dessert. We will definitely come back and think you should try it! May 2021 - COVID Review: I was invited to their VIP grand opening event and it was very timely because I had never gotten a chance to try their other NoVA location in Mosaic yet either! Our server was Aleyah and she was so great! It was nice to know that she understood my husband's food allergies because she was also allergic to the same things (all nuts). So it was helpful that she was able to tell us which items on the menu were "safe" to eat and/or could have the nuts substituted out. We started with a couple of cocktails and an appetizer. Our entrees were delicious! I highly recommend the salmon dish - I loved that it came with a nut-free pesto sauce that was made out of cilantro and pumpkin seeds! TFK is a great place to go if you have food allergies, dietary restrictions, or simply want to eat some healthier dishes! The inside is beautiful and there's even a separate/private dining room for special events. The food felt "healthy" and they certainly cater to dietary restrictions but overall just a little lackluster. The portions were pretty small and everything lacked seasoning. We ordered the kale salad with steak which was cooked well but totally unseasoned. We also got the Korean rice noodle bowl with tofu which was ok but the mushrooms were over cooked. We also got the forbidden poke. While the forbidden rice in the poke was incredibly salty the fish itself was really good. Just a lot of rice compared to other toppings. I recently held my graduation brunch at TrueFood in their private dining area and it was a hit! Octavia and her team were so accommodating with their bar and food requirements. The space was free of use, just pay for food! We had the best time setting up the decor (which it was fair game as long as it did not leave damage to the walls) and they were so attentive to all my needs! My friend and I came here after skating the W&OD trail, so we were hungry but also looking for something relatively healthy (we did just work out, after all). Do not come here if you are looking for quick food or good food. The "air fried" chicken, which they have in place of grilled chicken, was dry and lacked any flavor whatsoever. The citrus salmon salad, which was recommended to us by our waitress, was small and was just some greens under a slab of salmon covered in jam. Most of the food was overpriced for the mediocre quality that it was. The Thai noodles were decent, but definitely not worth the 40 minutes we waited for all of our food to come out. The restaurant wasn't even busy on a Saturday evening, but still very slow. Just another overpriced New American place with uncomfortable chairs and harsh lighting. Also, please note that the air vents in the restaurant blow the smell of tobacco, likely from the cigar shop next door, into the restaurant so there is a general tobacco smell. I've always been a fan of True Food Kitchen. I like the healthier menu options, though a bit pricey. I am now excited they have a location at Reston Town Center. We dined here for the first time with both kids and I'm so grateful to the servers who were patient, kind, and so helpful to our wild and messy table of four! The food we ordered were delicious. My husband loved the lasagna. Our infant who is on solids now loved that dish as well. My little girl loved her kids cheese pizza and devoured 90% of it which is a lot for her. I loved my tuna tostadas. The tuna was fresh, the dressing was zesty and creamy, and the chips were crunchy. This was my first time eating out with my infant boy. Like I said, he's on solids now and I ordered bajillion sides to gage what he would like. All the sides were good. I asked to keep the steamed vegetables bland and they did. The sea bass was flaky and cooked well. The grass fed beef was flavorful. I love how the space gives off positive and clean vibes. The option of outdoor seating is also a bonus. I love a restaurant with a good story, and True Food's part-science/part-art story of an inflammation-free life (and body) is a worthy one. The menu features the kinds of food you pine over scrolling through Pinterest and then spend hours recreating in your head as you plan your Keto meals for the week...until you give up and decide buying it is just quicker. I didn't know much about True Food when we paid their Reston location a visit on an early Thursday evening. But I instantly took a liking to its look and feel. We sat on the patio and started dinner with a Wild Caught Tuna Tostada that was to die for - an explosion of fresh ahi tuna, jalapeno and avocado on a sesame cracker. Awesome. For my entree, I opted for the Korean Noodle Bowl, a light Japchae dish of glass noodles, shitake mushrooms, and lots of veggies (for protein, I went with grilled shrimp). My husband went for a delicious Grilled Korean Steak. And my daughter was happy with her Margherita pizza. Their flourless chocolate cake was the perfect endnote to our meal. The best part about True Foods is the ambience. There's a happiness here that can only result in a positive dining experience. I'm so glad that there's a new location in Reston! I ordered the lasagna bolognese and blueberry lemonade, and my friend got the strawberry lemon pancakes. Everything here was perfect from the staff, ambiance, food, and drinks. Our waitress was super nice and attentive and the hostess at the door was kind as well. I got seated outdoors immediately and the waitress moved the umbrella so that there would be more shade at the table. The lasagna was delicious and came with chicken sausage, mushroom, spinach, ricotta and basil. It was very filling with a yummy sauce and I love how you still feel good after eating here! The lemonade was very refreshing and came with real blueberries. I tried my friend's pancakes and they were fluffy and moist without it being too sweet. "What's that? I can't hear you. Say again?" This is my overwhelming memory from every visit to True Food Kitchen ... of which there were several. Seems to be one of the few places around that can accommodate large groups. If you can avoid coming in a large group - that's probably better. If you can sit outside, better still. Otherwise - don't expect to hear anything. Ah, but the service! Can we call it that? There are definitely people who work there. I wandered up to the bar and joined a group on a recent trip. I was eager to grab a drink and quickly got the bartender's ... no wait ... where's he going? And why won't he make eye contact? Oh, but here comes someone. Excellent, "I'd..." ... I'd wish someone would realize there are people here. Where'd she go off to? ... Someone *did* finally stop but only after we hollered "Excuse me!!" after about 10 minutes. The moment my drink arrived they asked us to move away from the bar to our dining room and please close out the bill. What a way to start a dinner. Dinner was strange. Before anyone had looked at the menu they asked if anyone wanted wine. Since we had no ability to make that call yet, they took away our wine glasses. Okay. I guess no wine then. Water was intermittent. The food came out all at once--except for one plate which took an extra awkward 5 minutes. The food, on the other hand, was quite good. If there is one redeeming thing about this place it's that. There is good food. And allegedly healthy. Though I'll tell you... it doesn't TASTE healthy. If you get my drift. True Food Kitchen in RTC was a super cool food experience. A couple friends and I wanted to try out their healthier and fresh menu especially since they had some dope vegetarian and vegan options. We tried the edamame dumplings, double cheeseburger, Korean noodle bowl, and tomato and lemon ricotta flatbread. The dumplings were vegetarian and made with miso broth, white truffle oil, herbs, and edamame. The dumplings were cooked to a soft but chewy consistency and were packed with savory flavors. I was honestly skeptical about trying an edamame dish but absolutely loved it! It ended up being my favorite dish of the night. Note, it does have an Asian kick to it. The vegan double cheeseburger is made with a house vegan portobello, walnut, and beet patty. It's then assembled with pickled onions, tomatoes, vegan cheddar (I recommend subbing or adding their gouda), veganaise/mayo, and a flaxseed bun. Overall, it was super filling and tasted amazing. All the flavors came together super well and was a hearty dining experience. The Korean noodle bowl was probably the most interesting dish. It was gluten free and vegan. It was assembled with sweet potato glass noodles (they actually looked so cool), pickled shiitake, spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, and toasted sesame. It was all cooked in a sauce that definitely had hints of Korean spices and flavors. Since it was my first time trying a Korean dish, it was different but I liked it a lot. The only thing I would ask for is more sauce! But like actually, the glass noodles themselves are worth the order. Finally the tomato and lemon ricotta flatbread was probably the most underwhelming of the four. Being vegan, it was cherry tomatoes, red onion, lemon ricotta, arugula, and cilantro pumpkin seed pesto spread on flatbread. My major complaint here was that the flatbread was super thin and not spongy at all. Other than that the flavors complimented each other well and the cilantro pumpkin seed pesto definitely stole the show! Overall True Food Kitchen was great! The RTC restaurant had dim light vibes and the staff was accommodating even though we visited near closing time. Pro tip: ask for their spicy sauce; it pairs well with all their dishes and adds the perfect kick. Note that although the dining experience was great, the food is very pricey. read more
