I've only been here once and I absolutely loved it. The ambiance, the menu, the service. Everything was great. Both indoor and outdoor seating. My favorite is the decor/ambiance inside. Ahh!! I love this place and all the girls in it. They're so patient and kind. One barista's favorite is the iced americano and Tru Bru's most popular is the vanilla chai. Beautiful interior and decor, and I love that they roast the coffee beans in-house. We had the cappuccino with one shot espresso and oat milk, iced blended caramel latte, iced vanilla chai, and an oven heated pumpkin scone. Everything was delicious, my only critique is that there was too much ice which watered down such great tasting drinks. Otherwise, the drinks were bomb!! I highly recommend the caramel latte, vanilla chai, and the scone. The pumpkin scone was so buttery and even better than I hoped. I love coffee and am a huge fan of roasteries because you can really taste the difference. That being said this was probably the worst Roastery coffee I have ever had. Still better than the major coffee chains, but it tasted bitter and burnt. Service was super slow, two mochas took over 20 minutes. Cafe itself is nice, plenty of seating. Today I went in with my friends and not only did they mix up our order number and gave us the wrong order but they also had us waiting an additional 30 minutes for our original order to come out. I loved this little coffee shop! Super cute decor and they had lots of great drinks and foods to offer. The spot was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon. Students, families and coffee house patrons filled the shop. Plenty of seating. They have oat milk and hemp milk. We got the green matcha lattes and those were delish! Some lady in front had a pink amazing looking drink and when we inquired what her order was she proceeded to tell us. Then went to the register and bought us one too! Super sweet and kind of her. I came here to eat brunch right before class and I really don't regret it. I ordered the matcha latte and the bacon breakfast burrito. Tbh the matcha latte was pretty bland (I got it sweetened and with almond milk and it basically tasted like sweet almond milk) but the burrito really made up for it. Probably the best breakfast burrito I've eaten EVER. The inside of the cafe is really nice and not too loud. A lot of people come to study or work there so it's a really nice place to eat. My new favorite coffee shop, that is more than a coffee shop. Over the last year I have made the transition from coffee to a variety of tea drinks. My favorite is matcha. Tru Bru has some really good organic ceremonial grade matcha. I like to make my own at home, but over here that some of the best matcha lattes around. Of course taste and preferences are always subjective. Tru Bru has a nice menu of breakfast and lunch items along with pastries to satisfy a sweet tooth. Go for the blueberry scones! They have wines and beer on tap too. Lines can get long if you go during peak times. If you're in a hurry, you might want to rethink coming in until you have more time. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Definitely worth a stop if you have more than a few minutes to spare. read more

After my 5th visit to this place I decided to write a review to let others know that this it is way overrated. Busy for 8:30 am, no where to sit or wait for my food and coffee. Awkward layout and not super inviting. Looks like people use this space to work. There is a 90-minute limit on seating so it looks like they figured out people camp out here for the day. There is some outdoor seating but is cramped as your are up against the parked cars in the parking lot. Not ideal. Cleanliness is not a high priority here. They need to have someone go through periodically to clean the counter and tables. Service was not friendly at all. They all seemed kind of bothered by having to be at work. No smiles. No greeting. Nothing but a blank stare or glare. Food is so-so. I got the breakfast sandwich with sourdough bread and added bacon. Coffee order is usually a cappuccino. To change it up, I ordered an iced coffee and I almost asked for another drink it was so bad and bitter. I didn't want to deal with the poor service so I just thought I won't order this again if I ever decide to come back. Overall rating is 2.5 Unfortunately, there are not a lot of independent coffee locations in this area so it will have to do if you're in a bind. But this is NOT a 4.5 to 5 star establishment by any means. So lower your expectations and know going in so you're not disappointed. read more

Food is great. Coffee....even the plain basic drip coffee is great. I can honestly say I LOVE IT!! However....the location is full of people using it like it is a Starbucks. There is no where for you to sit and enjoy your food or coffee for that matter. Workers are not the friendliest and their scramble menu is a bit confusing because they only have 1 laminated 8X11 at the cashier that tells you what is in it. I would recommend putting the menu on one of the many chalkboards and not allowing people to sit with laptops for hours. While they say there is a 50min cap, there is no one keeping tabs. We were there and left and none of the people with their laptops left (even though they were all there beforehand) But I do love their food. read more

It's perfectly blended for a hot summer day and the dark haired cashier recommended the cinnamon roll as a pastry and I've never had such a good cinnamon roll in my entire life. Great coffee, good food, cute shop and delicious scones! I have been back twice now and have loved everything. I felt that the lattes can be a bit heavy on the milk but you can't win them all. They have both takeout and dine in breakfast options available. Breakfast burrito was good, scrambler was also good but needed either seasoning on the potatoes or ketchup as they were bland. Tru Bru is my favorite coffee shop in Orange County. I live about 30 minutes away but I will go out of my way because I love it so much. Some great things about this cute place: 1. The coffee is excellent. 2. The prices are good. Even with the recent inflation, I can still get a delicious latte for less than $5 3. They have amazing pastries! I have yet to find another coffee shop that bakes their scones, muffins, and cookies in house. The scones actually take it the extra mile for me. When I'm deciding where to go to hang out or meet up with a friend, I'll gladly go to Orange just for a fresh scone! 4. The atmosphere is so cute! It's not like other shops where the chairs are uncomfortable and everything is all white/minimalistic. It has character, and a comforting one at that. 5. It's in a great location. I enjoy walking around the surrounding neighborhoods to see the nice houses and the parks. Just a tip - it gets packed on weekends. I get my burrito with thick cut bacon and chicken sausage, pico on the side. This place fills up on the weekends (for good reason). This place is also a favorite pit stop for weekend cyclists. Well, the name says it all. It's organic, it's true. It's pretty much what you would expect for a coffee shop that places the word organic in its title. Surprisingly yet not, there's lots of vegan options here, including dessert and the soup. Which, not sure if that constitutes as "lots." My sisters raved about their Iced Chai Latte and so that's what we got. We choose to get one with almond milk and one with hemp milk which bumps that up to a little more than $5. Uhm..so like some people have stated, if you're going to pay for starbucks, you might as well come here and get your money's worth. The Chai Latte was delicious! It's creamy, cinnamon-y, thick and not to sweet. It was spiced so perfectly that when my sister and I had a chai latte in DTLA, we weren't impressed. Tru Bru does it good here. We also got their grilled cheese which was I mean, filling for a grilled cheese but nothing too exciting. Their vegan four-bean soup was served in a cute little pot and that was pretty good. It didn't lack flavor and was surprisingly filling as the broth wasn't that thick. It was definitely at hot go-to spot for the local college kids and even on the weekends. I love walking into coffee shops and getting smacked in the face with freshly roasted beans. It's really soothing and enjoyable. Came by on a Sunday evening and the place was brimming. No line but a lot of the tables were occupied. I asked the cashier what was the most popular drink and she mentioned the chai latte. First of, I don't particularly enjoy the taste of chai -it just never appealed to me. Whatever. Paid the ~$4.50 and waited for my latte, which came out quickly. And with the first sip, I was hooked. Wow. The smoothest blend of spices, the sweetness of the drink -I just had to smile. That's a darn good chai latte. It is on the sweeter side but I enjoyed it. I should've gone back for a second chai since I don't live nearby. But wow! Definitely will be making the drive back to get another chai. read more

Stopped by here for a late breakfast with my five year old nephew after his swim lesson down the street. He got the California scramble and I got the breakfast burrito. He really enjoyed his scramble with avocado and bacon and ate almost the entire plate including the toast and potatoes. The burrito was the perfect size for a breakfast portion filled with potatoes, eggs, cheese, bacon, and tomatoes. Adding the salsa made the perfect bite. I also had a cafe latte. Breakfast is served until 2pm. They also have baked goods and a lunch menu. The service was friendly and helpful. You order at the register, pick up drinks when your name is called, and food is delivered to your table. There are tables inside, a few couches, a communal table, and outside seating. Wifi is also available for those wishing to get work done. Located in a plaza with other small businesses on the corner of Chapman and Newport. Plenty of parking available. read more
