Got their seafood tacos with Mahi Mahi , without cheese and a side of fries. Loved how well seasoned and cooked their fish was though the salsa had a tangy taste that wasn't always the best in every bite. Their fries were some of the best I've had: crispy and well seasoned. Their staff is incredibly friendly and portion sizes are good as well. read more

Went as a group of 4 adults for a Sunday Lunch. Place wasn't too busy. The dining room was clean and cozy. Main complaint is the chairs. Plastic formed seats with metal backs. I wanted to stay longer to chat and possibly look at dessert, but didn't want to stay seated. Ordered the oysters ($2.50 per, current mkt) and they were great! They are plump and very clean. Tried the fried green tomatoes. Wished there was more seasoning in the bredding that came off when cutting into it. My hub said the same thing about the catfish bredding...likely the same. Catfish came with a romulade dipping sauce which gave it that cajun feel. I enjoyed the coleslaw, it had a bit of a spicy after taste. They don't have hushpuppies, which is disappointing. Definately offers generous portions. read more

Firstly our server Kara was amazing! The food was incredible. But I disliked the seating arrangements. They don't allow you to combine tables even if they are right next to each other. Inside and out. So we had to seat 6 of us to a 4 person booth. Kinda annoying but I can manage. And there was a bug in our food and nothing was done. I wasn't really looking for anything but a table visit from a manager would have been nice. Usually just good hospitality. I feel bad for the server for having to deal with all of that on her own. It's not her fault. But ultimately I would still eat here again. Recommend the fried cod! read more

Tricky Fish - A bug on the fry - Seafood Near Me - Richardson, Texas

The only reason I give them a 3 stars is because the food was terrific and female waitress who did help us was great. I am not upset about the food. By the way I had the tricky fish plate and my wife had the gumbo. The service from our waiter was horrible. He came and took our drink order then came one last time to take our food order and he never came back to our table. He was still there but never came back. My wife ordered a drink that never came even though we asked the gentleman that brought the food if he could check on it. He was not our waiter. I finished my beer and we both finished our food. Then I flagged down a female waitress who actually did check on us once and asked her who our waiter was. Turns out it was the same inattentive person we thought it was. I asked her for a to go box and she brought it. I told her if I could leave the tip to her I would but we were paying by card. I also told her I was leaving him the waiter no tip. The restaurant was very nice and in a nice area. The food was excellent the waiter sucked. This could have easily been a 5 star review had it not been for the lack of customer service. read more

On 12/4/25 I ordered the Damn Good Salad(DGS) without meat. On 12/5/25 I reported to the mgr., Cindy that I was food poisoned. She immediately took no accountability and was unempathetic stating, "Well no one else reported an issue." She proceeded with requesting I complete an "insurance claim form" regarding the incident as if she was insinuating I wasn't being truthful. I sent an online request for her superior to contact me, and instead Cindy responded via email reiterating the issue was closed and again no one else reported the issue with the DGS. I dine at Tricky Fish on the regular and I've never experienced such unprofessionalism and poor quality of service. I was never offered a resolution or a follow-up from mgmt. as I requested. I will never eat here again, and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to do so either. Dine at your own risk! read more

Tricky Fish in Addison has become a family favorite. My husband used to work in the building above it, and we joked that the proximity made it impossible to resist their amazing salads loaded with shrimp or salmon, fish and chips oyster shooters, peanut butter pie, and the exciting specials menu. Even though he works elsewhere now, we still visit regularly because the food is just that good. The ambiance at Tricky Fish is fun and fast, adding to the overall experience. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy great service in a lively atmosphere that keeps you coming back. Jen, the manager, is an absolute legend. She is not just running the show... she adds a personal touch to every visit, whether stopping by to say hi, refilling drinks, or even helping carry food to the table. Tricky Fish delivers consistently fantastic food, warm hospitality, and a fun vibe. I highly recommend it, whether or not you work upstairs! read more

What can I say! This place deserves a 10 out of 10. I read the reviews and decided to try it and my whole family loved it. It's very casual there so come as you are. Let's start with service. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. He gave great recommendations. Then Gary, the manager, was phenomenal and on the next level when it comes to service. He first passed by just to ask if we had been helped, then stopped again to see if my husband liked his mule. During the conversation, he mentioned how the original Shirley temple was made and wanted to make me one so I could try it. Let me tell you it was AMAZING! Yes I know, it's just a Shirley temple but it definitely tasted like something that deserved some liquor in it. I'm pregnant so it was perfect for what I was looking for. He even gave it to me on the house which shows just how the customer service is. Next, the food. Calamari $11 8/10 - very good and fresh, with okra and banana peppers. Tartar sauce was okay but still tasty. Mahi mahi herb butter $21 10/10 - fish cooked perfectly came with mashed potatoes (really good!) and Mac and cheese (decent choice). They ran out of veggies. Mahi Mahi Bourbon sherry linguine $21 10/10 - pasta was cooked perfectly and sauced well. Very filling Kids Butterfly shrimp $8 10/10 kids meals pricey but really good. shrimp was fresh and hot. comes with free drink and side. Mashed potatoes fire! Pineapple Mule 10/10 $5 Mules all day on Mondays with drink specials on different days and happy hours. We're going to try to eat here again before we leave. Must try if in the Richardson area! read more

I'd been wanting to try this place for along time. My first visit was very nice! Customer service was excellent. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. The price was right for the meal. Tricky Fish is a casual neighborhood spot that focuses on NOLA style seafood and southern cuisine. They have a full bar and the menu has a variety of options. I went with the fish tacos and they they were filling - blackened mahi. The seating is somewhat limited, however it doesn't get too busy as it seems to largely be a workday crowd. Overall, nice restaurant with seafood options and po boy sandwiches. read more

Tricky Fish was highly enjoyable and is recommended. We ended up trying it off of the strength of someone's recommended and it did not disappoint. It's located in the State Farm City-line area which is in Richardson. The restaurant is surrounded by other eateries and a small park which makes for great entertainment in that area. Upon arriving, I was able to get a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. All spots were 2 Hour Parking for your convenience and enjoyment. Upon walking in we were immediately greeted. We arrived there around 6 pm and the patio area was kind of empty. We were seated inside in a booth. The restaurant was really clean and a warm inviting decor. We didn't wait long before we were greeted by our server and provided menus. Food/drinks: I ordered a Lime in the Coco mule which was very good! The coconut and lime were a good mix to make for a refreshing drink. My friend had a Filthy Pineapple mule which she enjoyed. We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. All I can say is YUMMY! They were fried perfectly and had the perfect firmness. As a bonus, they were topped with crawfish and a nice drizzle. Amazing! I ordered blackened mahi mahi tricky fish (comes with rice, fried okra and topped with a crawfish gravy. Yall...I can't even describe the flavors. It was amazing. The fried okra is not your average fried okra. My mom and friend had the fried platter. They really enjoyed their food as well. Service: Carlisle was SPECTACULAR! He earned every bit of the tip he received. He was user knowledgeable of the menu, always kept our drinks refilled and made sure we had everything we needed without asking. The manager even walked around to ensure all patrons were good and were enjoying our meals. Nice touch. COVID: all employees were wearing masks and cleaned thoroughly between guests. Bonus: there are wall outlets in the booths in case your phones or tablets for kids need to be charged. They also have a large bar table area that can accommodate larger parties. There is patio seating that filled up quickly by the time we had eaten and was leaving. They also have a touchless payment option on the receipt that you can use to avoid the handling of your debit/credit card. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd like to go back to try something else? read more

We went during Mardi Gras and the atmosphere was cute. We arrived sort of early on Saturday (5pm), which was good because it quickly became a bit busy. We had the Fried Green Tomatoes, the DSG salad, Tricky Fish with Redfish and the Shrimp Bourbon linguine. Every bite was DELISH!! I also had the Pineapple Mule and it was the best mule I've had in a while, just the right balance between the vodka and fruit, so not too strong, but not weak either. The only catch was the service. Everyone we interacted with was very pleasant, but we had like 3 different folks take our orders and bring out the food. It was hard to tell who our exact server was. Now that may be their typical rotation which is fine, but it was new to us. With that though, we had a very long wait between being seated and ordering drinks and a pretty long wait between ordering our dessert and receiving it. That took so long in fact, the manager removed it from our bill, which was really nice of him. Like I said the actual folks were great and the food was fantastic, so we'll definitely be back!! And we were too hungry to take photos, so I grabbed these from their Instagram . read more

Solid dinner experience, and family friendly. I enjoyed the food, service and casual dinning experience. Ordered the Blackened Redfish w/ Tricky Fish - included crawfish etouffee, dirty rice, and okra. The food was savory, but didn't have the spice kick I would expect from a Cajun food. The service was excellent and added some heat with hot sauce. The wine was also half off on Wednesday, so a nice bonus for my meal out. I appreciated how friendly and accommodating the staff was, and it was casual enough to bring young kids or a mixed group. I would recommend! read more

Today was a good day. We ventured out to a new catfish place and we were pleasantly surprised but the quality and ambiance of this place. This is a chain, I think locally owned with locations around the northern part of Dallas. This was our first visit but will not be our last. We went to their location in Preston hollow shopping center on walnut hill. This is what we liked about the place. 1. The price is right for 2 without alcohol including tip was under $50 2. The ambiance is clean with great sight line to their TV which had the March Madness in full swing. 3. The service was good not great but on Friday nights we were still happy because we were in and out in a hour. 4. The food was a 10. I got the catfish and shrimp platter. It was fried to perfection with a light batter that did not hide the fish. My wife got the etouffee which said was very flavorful. Bottom line we would both order our meals again. My only criticism is that the cement floors and high ceilings make the place noisy. However we would still go back and eat there again. Love it.. read more

In a era where bad service is common, we were pleasantly surprised to receive EXCELLENT service. Paul, our server, gave great recommendations and was conversational. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was a nice balance of casual and charming. We were so pleased with the food and service we will be back. Now I will say if you don't like a hint of rum in your banana pudding, don't get it. I liked it but my husband didn't (and he's the big banana pudding fan. ) read more

The food is always delicious and served in a reasonable amount of time. They offer great cocktails.

Nice place to hang out. Good quality and portions of food served. We ordered Thai chicken wings, fish and chips, crawfish etouffee (very hyped based on review but found it decent). All the items tasted good, however not stellar. Special mention: the chips served with fish, they were great and adequately spiced, very flavorful. The mule flight looked and tasted good, but I really doubt the content of alcohol served in those. Good menu options to search from. Interested to try more items here. read more

I wanted seafood during the height of the pandemic and was happy that this place was opened. I ordered the salmon with dirty rice and okra and a fried green tomato appetizer. Everything was so delicious!! I really loved the okra. I'm not sure how they got it to have that level or crispness but it's superb. The fried green tomatoes were also excellent. I love the sauce and that it included shrimp. I haven't been to sit inside this restaurant yet but I will soon. The food is definitely worth it. read more

Have been here a few times. Had glass of wine and beer. Good selection and not over priced. Had shrimp tacos. Tasty but slaw seemed a little off. Fries are always good. Fish and chips were tasty. This was our first visit to this local restaurant that has been recommended to us many times. It has a clean, crisp atmosphere that is very comfortable. We walked in were kindly greeted by the host and immediately seated at the booth that we asked for. The came L J, our server. Never was there a more upbeat, bubbly young lady in this role. She was exceptional. She let us have time for a cocktail, knew the menu well for two wonderful recommendations and timed our service perfectly. We had three items, first the Darn Good Salad which were greens, candied pecans, blue cheese crumbles with a wonderful vinaigrette dressing. This was almost too much to share. Then we had two entrees, shrimp and grits and the tricky fish. Both were exceptional!! As we finished our meals, I asked to speak to Jay, the GM. I wanted to compliment our experience and he smiled big as he heard the details and was very appreciative. All in all, we were blown away by this dinner--it was excellent! read more

Was finally able to take this gem off my bookmarks! Service was excellent. Omg there Mac and cheese is amazing and super creamy!! One of the best bites of the year, Tricky Fish is somewhere I would love to go back to every time I'm in Dallas. Portions are big, decor and ambiance are on point, friendly staff and most importantly, terrific food (seafood at that!) at a friendly price point. Tricky Fish has a few plates including the namesake Tricky Fish that is a must get. My wife got the tilapia tricky fish and it was amazing. Nice big piece of fish, super flavorful crawfish etoufee and dirty rice that's not overly salty make for a great meal already. But the real star? That OKRA. The only time I've enjoyed okra is in it's deep fried form, but Trick Fish's take on the vegetable is mind blowing. Roasted and charred to a crisp, the okra has new life in it's texture and flavor. By far one of the best vegetables I've eaten in my life. They also got an assortment of sandwiches, which are pretty hefty in portion with the fries (they give a LOT of fries). Soft roll, fried oyster po boy is a different take on a classic and while the sandwich wasn't certainly good enough, it is pretty average compared to the fish plates, so I would opt for that instead next time. Definitely going to be a new regular fixture when I come back to Dallas! read more

Food was really good and I was happy to see they were open pretty late on a weekday, which I appreciated. I ordered the Salmon with etoufee on top and a side of fried shrimp. The Salmon didn't come out cooked medium-well as requested, so they had to take it back, but it didn't take too long to be corrected. Once it was though, I slaughtered the food. I am an okra fan but I have never had "whole" okra fried or roasted or whatever they do to theirs, but it was really good. I was actually surprised I was able to eat it whole and I didn't start to overthink it because lets be honest, okra is slimy and sometimes has hard stems in them that make them non-chewable so I feel "cut" okra may reduce some of those issues (lol), but I bit into it and was pleased by not only the flavors they seasoned it with, but also the fact that is wasn't overly slimy and I didn't had to spit out one stem. Win for them.... The fried shrimp were good and although "I" didn't see lemonade on the menu, they brought me one and it was really good. I would definitely go back and try some other things. read more

I ordered , "fried shrimp platter with fries only.' While holding the lunch special menu. He asked, do you want the lunch special with a drink?" Yes please. "Fries and Cole slaw okay?" "No just fries. I've ordered this several times and the server always says, no slaw, more fries?" But this server put the order is as fries and slaw.which was incorrect. Came here for happy hour. I ordered the Old Fashioned. This is normally my litmus test to see how good a bar tender is. Our tender was very friendly and attentive. I was very impressed with her Old Fashioned. She used a blood orange rind, and actual cube of clean, clear ice, Woodford Reserve, the correct amount of simple syrup, and bitters. It was delicious. We also had some apps. Blue cheese potato crisps, calamari, and fresh oysters. Well, the only reason I'm not giving this establishment 5/5 stars are because of the oysters. They weren't as fresh. I will come back to this place and try out the other stuff but definitely staying away from those oysters. read more

I tried the fish and chips and the jumbo shrimp cooked the tricky way. The fish and chips was phenomenal and the tartar sauce was fantastic; definitely one of the best that i've had. I wish the fish was more of a tender rather than a filet because then I can get more of that delicious breading. The fries were also really flavorful and fresh. Mac and cheese was not bad, pretty solid. The shrimp (I got it blackened) was yummy and tasted very fresh but I would have preferred for the sides to have been more light, everything was salty and I wished there was more balance. My crawfish etouffee came cold which made me sad. We also ordered the calamari for appetizer but I guess our server just forgot to add it to the tab so I didn't get to try that; maybe next time. Clean and nice place; it's in city line so it's a great place to hang out and eat. Overall GET THE FISH AND CHIPS!!! You won't be disappointed read more

I start this review with one word--amazing!! From the food, to the service, to the atmosphere everything here is nothing short of amazing. A group of us met up for a get together and the staff was super accommodating, attentive, and kind. I could not decide between brunch and dinner, so I asked the server and she was super helpful and honest. I ended up getting their refreshing and strong paloma to sip on and their tilapia with potato hash and veggies to eat. Omg, the tilapia was super flavorful with a nice hint of butter and spices. Also the veggies had that same spice and were oh so delicious! I got a chance to try their okra, seafood pasta, and hash! Wow, wow, and wow again! All of my senses just came to life with each bite! Everyone had nothing but good things to say about their food and I know we will all be back. Also loved the fact that their soundtrack is amazing--you could especially hear it in the bathroom and they were playing an amazing mix of classic and new rnb and pop. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Ok, this place is a don't miss. The crab bisque was way beyond expectations- best I've ever had and I've dined in some top of the line places. The staff here are very friendly and attentive. I left Jaspers a few doors down as they didn't seem to want to accommodate a single business diner, and walked into Tricky Fish where i got fantastically attentive service from the minute I walked in the door. The food, oh the food- don't let the casual atmosphere fool you. The bisque, grilled fish, drinks, and desserts could easily be served in a fine dining restaurant. Yes. It's that good.
