Came here for brunch and had such a great experience from start to finish! We ordered the chicken and waffles and French toast, and both were so good. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, paired perfectly with the waffles, and the French toast was soft, slightly sweet, and just the right amount of indulgent. I'll start with the positives. The DJ was great and the music volume fit the environment perfectly. The suya was a 10 out of 10, easily the highlight of the food. Our waitress, I believe her name was China, was excellent. Her response time and attentiveness were also a 10 out of 10. Now for the rest. I ordered the chicken and waffles along with catfish, but was told the catfish was unavailable, which was surprising considering the timing of my order. The chicken had absolutely no flavor and could have been fried harder. Even with a better texture, it still would have needed seasoning. The waffles were very basic and slightly overcooked, nothing memorable. The person I was with ordered the oxtail and grits. Since he did not want the grits, I asked for them to be served separately. He also ordered a side of pancakes that were advertised as blueberry, but it was essentially a plain pancake with blueberries thrown on top. Very mediocre. The biggest disappointment was the oxtail portion. For a thirty dollar side, only two pieces were served, while another order of oxtail and grits at the table received significantly more. That felt inconsistent and honestly like poor value. That said, the oxtail itself was well seasoned and flavorful, easily a 10 out of 10 in taste. Across the table, several people shared the same feedback: lack of seasoning and lack of flavor. While the food came out quickly, most of it was lukewarm. The grits were good, about a 9 out of 10, but also came out lukewarm. The same applied to the oxtail, pancakes, and waffles. This makes it seem like the food may have been sitting before being served. Would I make the drive out to Richardson again? There are a few things about this experience that are worth sharing about our experience at the Icon restaurant and lounge: - 2 couples arrive at 6:30 and the restaurant has a few customers at the bar and a few seated around the restaurant. - the music was loud especially because of so few customers to absorb the sound. We should have moved to different seats as we were seated near the DJ. - my wife noticed that several customers were smoking hookah This was very unusual for us. I did not smell the smoke but my wife did. - the chef came to our table to tell me that they did not have the Tilapia I ordered. That was a nice touch. I subsequently got the salmon and shrimp dish that was very good. - the other dishes included chicken wings , oxtail and rice and lamb chops. Everyone really enjoyed their meals (7-10) - we also had bar drinks that were good. All in all this was a good food experience but the ambiance including the music and hookah will keep us from coming back soon. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and really added to the overall experience. Let's talk drinks, those blueberry lemon drops were on point. Smooth, flavorful, and just the right balance. I mostly tapped into the happy hour menu, and everything I tried hit. Definitely a great option if you're looking to enjoy good food without overdoing it. Now the real highlight for me? Friday Night dinner here was a vibe. They had a band that played RnB and then in between the sets there was carribbean music. The staff was generally attentive. The negatives for me was the portion size of the food for price. The Asun and jollof was $32 and came with maybe 5 prices of meet and a scoop of rice. It was also a bit salty. In comparison to similar restaurants the price was higher but the portions were smaller. That being said I would go back and maybe try some other dishes because I did enjoy the vibe. read more

A friend and I visited last night and had some really great food and a ton of laughs! Apparently Tuesday is all day happy hour however we ordered off the regular dinner menu I had the red snapper and Jollof rice and my friend had the oxtails with coconut rice. The red snapper was SO SEASONED, fresh and delightful. Chef Craig even came out and we were able to give our compliments to him! He was so kind and sweet and even explained the red sauce that came with it and what it was. Highlight of the meal was our server Keyon! That guy right there had us laughing the entire time. He came to check on us a million times, service was prompt, food came out quick, everything was seasoned and everyone had a great time. Keyon was sick of me by the end of the night I know, we debated, laughed, was serious and playful all in one dinner. Good times! We will come back for Keyon and Chef Craig only! This place's food was so good! The pancakes were thick and fluffy and went well with the perfectly crispy chicken wings. The chicken wings had a ton of flavor. The hash bowl had a lot of potatoes, but they were so good it was worth it. Next time we'd order with a runny egg for a sauce component as that is where it lacks. Now the oxtails and grits, omg. Worth every dollar. The grits were creamy and the oxtail was juicy. The drinks were strong and delicious--especially the espresso martini! They had a DJ and photographer (charge for photos). I arrived at Icon for Sunday brunch with a group of friends from undergrad. I must say this restaurant is extremely patient, as I was the only one to arrive on time. People arrived as much as 3 hours late and we were able to remain at our table. The catfish and grits were delicious, but I did feel the portion size was quite small. The only complaint I have is that we had a large party of approximately 15 people and they will not let you split tickets. Thankfully, I always carry cash. This is such a busy place! I was invited here for a birthday brunch on a Sunday afternoon...there was a DJ and the place was full! Everyone I was with seemed to enjoy their food except for a couple of us. I had the catfish and grits. The grits were like water and the catfish was over cooked. I was disappointed. A friend of mine had the lamb chops and rice. The menu does not tell you that they are lollipop lambchops! Do not expect for them to be big. Their mimosas were great and so was the ceaser salad!! I wanted to give this a 5 star, I really really did. So let me start with the pros first. Manager: was incredibly kind, didn't quite grab her name, i think it was Iffy or Izzy. She was very welcoming and very beautiful. I immediately felt at home with her presence. Oxtails with Jollof Rice: Extremely well seasoned, hot, tender fall off the bone oxtail with well seasoned and delicious rice and sauce. Chicken wings: large, juicy and well seasoned wings. There was only 3 to an order but those three were gigantic. Curry Goat: extremely well seasoned and flavorful, great curry but the meat was a bit sparse, most of it was bone. Suya beef: My favorite appetizer, was flavorful and well cooked beef with good seasoning. The meat was firm but not rough and this filled me well. However, the service was a bit lacking. People ignored us repeatedly and it took a while for anyone to take our order. Wasn't excessive but definitely could have been improved. The price was also very high, I understand that with the ambience, and to hire live music, it could be more expensive however the price don't quite fully justify the portions in my opinion (with the exception of the oxtail) I would perhaps rate it higher if it was more affordable. Hate to review this restaurant with 1 star due to being usually a fave of mine. Ordered jerk chicken, coconut rice and plantains. Literally everything on my plate was dried out or shall I say not fresh. Rice had hard grains throughout, chicken just dry, and plantains were ridiculously dry. Also what blew me over as well $4 for can soda. My waiter can't remember her name but an Asian slim lady gave great service. Icon Restaurant was our brunch stop before heading back to Houston, and overall it was a solid experience with a few tweaks that would take it up a notch. I ordered the Cakes & Tenders--three large, fluffy pancakes that were absolutely on point. The chicken tenders, though, were slightly overcooked, making the meat a bit dry. I honestly would've preferred wings instead; they just fit the vibe better. Kaleah had the Chicken & Waffles, which hit flavor-wise, but the wing pieces were pretty small. This dish would shine way more with three full wings instead of small cuts. Koda's Lamb Chops & Grits were cooked beautifully, and the grits were creamy and well seasoned. We also ordered two plates of the Salmon Bites because they were cooked so damn well--crispy, flavorful, and easily one of the best things on the table. Drinks were solid--a Classic Mimosa and a Blueberry Lemon Drop that was smooth and balanced. Shoutout to our server Kiara, who was attentive, accommodating, and kept everything moving without hovering. The ambiance is clean, modern, and relaxed--good brunch energy without the chaos. Overall, Icon does brunch right, but a few small adjustments to the chicken portions and doneness would make it even better. I went for the food and I was wowed. Staff was super friendly from the moment our group showed up. This place is across between amazing food and a good time club atmosphere. Our group tried the difference entrees. Peri Chicken, Jerk chicken and the curry goat. Every bite seemed like there was a possibility of the spice might get you but it was just right with every single dish. I honestly loved all three for different components. If I could have their Peri chicken with their homemade jerk sauce the rest of my life I would be content. The peri chicken was dry seasoned and crispy to perfection. Their sauce was fresh and just tangy enough with just the right amount of kick in it. Best jerk chicken I have tasted in Texas fyi. You know if you try. Rob and sauce both were on point. If I could of made anything better if that was possible was to have the chicken just a bit more crispy. That I'd it. Seasoned to perfection. Curry goat, the sauce was just amazing balanced. GOAT fell off the little bones and was just tasty. The portions here are well worth the price here. Their coconut rice odd so dang good I fought to mention that their drinks are like doubles here and well worth the price as well. Don't skip the cocktails due to sticker shock. They hook it up here. They tropical drinks looked like they took them straight from a tropical bar. The owner?, I believe also but the way made sure everyone and everything was great. For a first experience here, our whole group said we would come back and eat here again. Come here a little bit more dressed up if you can. Every year, I try a new location for my birthday, and I make it a point to support Black-owned businesses--especially as a business owner myself. This experience had its ups and downs from start to finish. Reservation Process: I called on January 25th and spoke with a gentleman named Harold, who took my name and number and told me the manager would call back to assist with my reservation. By Sunday, I still hadn't heard from anyone, so I followed up again. Harold finalized my reservation and sent a text confirmation through OpenTable. Fast forward to Wednesday, I received a call from Tori confirming my reservation and requesting a $200 deposit. Excuse me?! At no point during my initial booking with Harold was this mentioned. Tori said she would check with her manager and call me back. A few minutes later, she informed me that since the deposit policy wasn't disclosed at the time of booking, it would be waived. Arrival & Ambiance: Upon arrival, we checked in and were directed to the bar while waiting for our table. We purchased Drizzle cheesecakes for the entire party (one of my favorites!), and the staff kindly refrigerated them for us. The ambiance of the restaurant was breathtaking--sophisticated, upscale, and rich in culture. I was pleasantly delighted by how clean, spacious, and well-stocked the restrooms were, even offering feminine toiletries. I haven't seen that level of attention to detail since my clubbing days in the early 2000s. The table settings, décor, and overall aesthetic were beautifully done. They also offer mimosa tower service, featuring ladies waving light fixtures as part of a performance. However, their enthusiasm was noticeably lacking, which took away from the experience. Food Quality: Oxtails: A Slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone tender, and flavorful. However, the menu advertised andouille sausage, which was completely absent from the dish. Grits: C- The portion size of the grits overshadowed the oxtails. If some heavy cream, butter, and salt were added it would have jazzed up the flavor. While I understand oxtails are a delicacy, for $25, the meal should have included more meat. Catfish: F Overly salty to the point of being inedible. We sent it back and informed both the waitress and what seemed to be a manager or hostess. Neither offered to replace it or remove it from the bill, so we ended up paying for something we didn't consume. Shrimp: A Large, succulent, and flavorful. The demi-glaze was rich and creamy, but once again, the menu listed andouille sausage, which was missing from the dish. Scrambled Eggs: B- Overcooked and dry. Fried Chicken: B- Freshly prepared but inconsistently seasoned--some pieces were flavorful, while others were bland. A letdown overall. Salmon Bites: A Well-seasoned and tender. Jollof Rice: A Fresh, fluffy, and well-seasoned. Cocktails: The drinks were refreshing, potent, and well-made. The bartender kept up impressively with the high demand. Blueberry Lemon Drop: A+++ Mimosa Flight: A The Iconic: A Music: The DJ was phenomenal!!! His performance was energetic, hype and the mixes were LIT!! While the restaurant's ambiance was stunning and some of the dishes were excellent, the inconsistencies in service and food quality were disappointing. The handling of the catfish situation left a bad taste--both literally and figuratively. If they could improve on consistency and customer service, this could be a standout dining experience. read more

Nicely decorated spot in Richardson. Modern, cute and chic. My waitress was AMAZING. Her customer service made the experience better. She was very sweet and pleasant. I tried the Sunday brunch menu. They have a DJ playing music so this is GREAT. He played some good music. For drinks I love the mimosa sampler. Allows you to try multiple flavors. Food is ok I really need to comeback for dinner to try something better. The presentation of oxtails and grits was on point. Chicken and waffles looked ok. The chicken was lacking season and was boring. I wasn't impressed. The oxtails and grits were much better. I enjoyed them and the grits were really yummy. Oxtails were a good size and seasoned. The others in my party had the Jollof, eggs and shrimp, oxtails and grits and the southern belle. We also got a carafe of mimosas you could pick 2 flavors. We chose mango and orange juice. The menu is a QR code. The picture taken during my visit isn't free but my party was told it was. Reduced by 1 star because of this. If you are in the Richardson area this is a MUST. From the moment you walk in the DJ is jumping. Not too long after, they switched and the bangers kept coming! Food was pretty tasty. My only problem was the amount of food. It seemed to be a bit pricey for what was served. I had the jollof rice which was topped with spicy shrimp and a beautifully cooked scrambled egg. Very tasty. Catfish was good but it only came with one filet and it wasn't huge. Kinda disappointing. Oxtails were good but they gave 2 mismatched ones. I guess folks might be too lit to care. Okay. Let's get into this review... I went to this place for brunch over the weekend and I must say the food was good and the blueberry lemon drop was on point!.. The lady on the door with the short hair was super rude when my friend asked her if we seat ourselves...i mean we were just standing there for a good 2 minutes while her and another staff member talked. After we got our food, the waitress never came back to our table to check on us( not one single time)..which i find unacceptable considering they add gratuity to all checks. My friend even had to go hunt her down so we can get our ticket..AND she had an attitude about it. This place has real potential but their rude staff will ruin it for them..
