Tried out this Richardson location with a friend this week. I love the location! We had a booth my the window and could people watch the sidewalk. Friendly service too. My friend got the catfish and shrimp platter, I got the salmon-herb butter style and we shared the fried green tomatoes. Tomatoes--the addition of little blackened shrimp was awesome!! Other restaurants should take notice! The platter was good--really big portions and not greasy at all. I appreciated the choices on the Catch of the Day offerings. You pick a protein and then have 4 choices for the style and sides. I picked "herbed butter" which meant loaded mashed, sautéed veggies and a big dollop of herbed butter on the fish. The whole plate was so flavorful and delicious. I missed taking a picture because I dove right in! Only thing keeping this from 5 stars was the cook on the salmon--a little over. I had even asked the server if it was cooked medium and requested it like that. He assured me they "do it right". It was dryer than I like, but I ate it all...so it wasn't awful. But still--wish that was cooked to order. Next up, I want to try the one closer to me in Frisco. read more

We happened to try Tricky Fish on a night where they had the windows open and we could enjoy the outside (without the extreme heat). It made for a nice ambiance. You could also sit outside as an option. The service was attentive, friendly, and helpful with suggestions. We took advantage of their drink specials with the $5 mules that night. I had a Hill Country mule and it went down just fine. My husband went with the Dirty Pineapple mule. That was also tasty but on the sweeter side so it was a bit much to have a second. For dinner I went with the Low Country Cobb salad and opted to have it topped with grilled salmon. THe salad on its own was a generous portion. The balsamic dressing was the right balance on the greens and veggies and the salmon just put it over the top! I found it hard to stop eating it all because it was so good! My husband went with the Today's catch with the Redfish. His fish was cooked perfectly and the dish had lots of flavor with a generous portion. We both commented on how we'd come back just to have these items again! read more

A friend and I came here at lunch time. We shared the green tomatoes appetizer and she had the crab cake which came with a spicy coleslaw and I had the shrimp & crab cream soup. The meal was very good. We hadn't seen each other in a long time and had much to visit about so it was a bit noisy with the music. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated and some people were even eating outside! The waitress was very attentive & checked back often. Not so much to be a pest but often enough to be conscientious about our needs. The only problem that I brought up to the waitress is my water came with a straw in it. I explained she should check with her Manager but the Staff should check with the customer before putting straws in drinks. Plastic straws do not decompose in landfills and when the huge pile of garbage goes out into the ocean the sealife may think it's food and try to eat it. The straws can harm the sealife or even kill them. Businesses need to look into straws that degenerate so they don't hurt the Earth. And the first thing businesses need to do is have Staff ask customers if they want a straw. It will save the business money on their bottom line. read more

It was ok. I had the shrimp tacos. They were edible. Honestly, nothing to write home about. I would probably Come back but I think if I had a choice I would probably go to the other fish place near Whole Foods. read more

Our 2nd time here and definitely not the last! Happy to find we came in on 1/2 price wine night so we shared a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc Rose which was perfect for the Blackened Mahi Mahi. lol of the sides were so good and we shared a crab cake for an appetizer that came with a slaw that was delicious! Our server was attentive. Great place for a weeknight dinner date with my forever love! read more

They have horrible customer service. I went there and was ignored the whole time. I guess the server was more interested in perspective tip from a group of men over acknowledging all customers. The group came after me and I made multiple attempts to get the waitress attn read more

We ordered fish and chips and of course I didn't know I was supposed to add chips (fries) because I thought it was part of the order but anyway the fish was terrible. It was literally chunks of cod in a breaded pocket. It was a total thumbs down. I would never order from them again. read more

I love going here for lunch. My favorite lunch special is the linguine with shrimp. Even though they have a long line, they move quickly and get the food to you quickly. The service is ok, nothing special and the vibe is pretty modern. I feel good there. read more

I was in Dallas and my friend suggested we meet up here to catch up and enjoy some really good food. I'm glad she knew about this place because it did not disappoint. They have street parking in front but there's also a much needed parking garage, and it's free!!! We were immediately greeted and sat right away. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, made great suggestions for me being a first timer and was able to figure out what dish my friend wanted. They offer brunch specials on the weekends so we had the Mimosa tri...I must say that pineapple juice was so refreshing that I didn't even drink the other two. My friend said we had to order the hushpuppies and she was right, that hint of jalapeño and cheese definitely set them off!!! I also ordered the boudin balls and the dipping sauce was really yummy. She also ordered the fried green tomatoes but had to take home to enjoy. Another friend joined us and she ordered the Tricky Fish, which is redfish served over dirty rice and topped with crawfish etouffee. She also had something I had never heard of, okra fries... which looks like they fried/oven baked the whole okra piece and then seasoned it, very healthy and delicious alternative to french fries. The restaurant has a very nice and chilled vibe and I could see more and more people coming in. I'll definitely go back there to meet to with my girls the next time I'm in the area. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here. My favorite part of the restaurant was the vibe - very casual and open. Price point is fair! Our waitress was awesome and very attentive. All the dishes we ordered were good... our favorite was the catfish basket! The calamari was good and also interesting because they added fried banana peppers, which added a fun taste to the mix. We will definitely be back to try their other options. read more

Food was good. I got the today's catch herb butter with red fish. It was very good, wish they would cut the veggies smaller though; the squash was pretty thick. We got the wings as an appetizer, they were nice and flavorful. Drinks were 5/5! Service was 2/5 he did the bare minimum ( & we noticed that he was paying attention to other tables more than us , hmm) Ambiance was clean. Not too many people there on a Saturday night. read more

Downtown location, parking is tricky. The ambiance is very good, bright, and well-designed. Originally from New England and recently moved to Dallas. Looking for a great seafood place. The menu was focused on Gulf seafood, which makes sense. They did have fish & chips, the size of the fish was average but was prepared well and hot. The coleslaw was great. The one item I was looking forward to was, missing. Chowder! Service was good, and will return. read more

Disappointing first impression. Due to the good reviews I had high expectations for this restaurant. We arrived during happy hour and were surprised to see the restaurant was empty. We were seated quickly and the server took our drink order immediately. Unfortunately, when I ordered a draft beer the server informed me their fridge was down and all they had available was bottled beer. Once the drinks arrived, we inquired about the oyster shooter appetizer. The server went on to explain what the appetizer consisted of and that they no longer offered it as an option even though it's on the menu. We needed up settling for the 30A queso with shrimp. The queso had a nice thick consistency and was delicious. Not sure if the shrimp added much to the flavor, but it also didn't detract from the app. For our entrees we ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp with veggies and the redfish tricky fish platter. The star here was definitely the tricky fish, it was heavily spiced and full of flavor. The crawfish etouffee was outstanding and the fried okra was tasty. As far as the bacon wrapped shrimp, the meal was average at best and the flavor didn't come close to the redfish entree. Our server did ask about a second round of drinks midway through our entrees. I did agree to a beer, but my wife passed on her Painkiller. Moments later a different server came to ask my wife if she wanted a refill and once again she passed. To our surprise our server delivered another Painkiller to the table and took it back moments later when we reminded him that my wife had passed on the drink. Overall this restaurant did not meet my expectations. The food was tasty, but there were too many misses during this visit that detracted from the overall experience. I dont see another visit in the near future. read more

I always enjoy coming here. The drinks are always good and the food a majority of the time is tasty. The beach blossom cocktail was $9. The fried catfish platter and po'boy was $13 each. The fried chicken sandwich is a hit or miss. Sometimes it's tasty and other times, the chicken is dry and lacking flavor. They make their own ranch and it's the best thing ever. Service is always great and ambiance is nice whether it's morning or night. read more

Service was excellent. Food was very good. Great prices. I will go back. Great variety of fish and sides.

Fast, efficient and very tasty. Tricky Fish is geared for two types of cliental, the fast paced lunch crowd of the local businesses with sometimes limited lunch hours and the more relaxed evening crowd that either come in for a drink and appetizer after work or the laid back dinner patrons who gather to dine, relax and either chat or watch the various screens both inside and out. Have tried most items on the menu and never been disappointed. read more

$27.00 included tip for the world's smallest portion of shrimp and crawfish etouffee. Crawfish is in season now & each one was the size of the tip of my pinky finger. No French bread on side as pictured either (not even offered as a side). The entire dish was maybe worth $8.00, if that. Disappointed. Just go to Nate's! Tried & true. Service and food was spectacular, if you are ever close by stop in and have a meal, try some of their specialty drinks also.

This pearl nestled in Richardson provides value, great service, amazing food, and a beautiful setting. The Mahi Mahi was so mouthwatering and beautiful, the meat fell apart and provided a treat for the tastebuds. The portions are indeed abundant, we took the rest home to enjoy tomorrow. My granddaughter enjoyed the fish and chips entree. We began with queso and chips prepared with care and style. We will spread the word and return. read more

This was our first time here. We will definitely return! The service was great. I would recommend reservations if you're coming at a busy time although I did see a lot of walk-ins and they seem to get tables pretty quick. The food was hot and great. Great drink options. They had a fantastic smoky old-fashioned that you pour yourself. The atmosphere was great. The windows were open because the weather was nice which made for a great dining experience. read more

The food reminded me of New Orleans and the service was great! We got the snapper with crawfish etouffee which was flavorful and addicting; etouffe was decent, in comparison to what you can get in NOLA. Catfish po'boy was also tasty and lightly breaded which I prefer; the mac and cheese side was just basic. Service was fast and they have tvs to watch sports games! read more

Tricky Fish is a favorite of mine. It's small enough to enjoy a good conversation and good food. It's not pretentious and the servers are warm, friendly, and helpful. Their cocktails are delicious and satisfying. I didn't feel as though I was pay for a pretty fruit drink with no liquor. I had boiled shrimp which was presented beautifully. The shrimp was fresh , tasty, and worth it. I also had the shrimp po-boy. The bread, which many places use a soft version of , unlike the ones from New Orleans that use a crisp crusted bread on po- boys.was on point. Soft center and crisp crust. read more

Came to Tricky Fish after work this week in need of a drink. Tricky fish has a pretty good happy hour and drink menu. I ordered the spicy pineapple mule and my friend got a beer. Unfortunately our drinks took a long time to arrive, our food actually arrived before our drinks did. And we had ordered our drinks first. Both of us got the etouffee. Well seasoned with good spice level. Though I wished the dish was a little less greasy. read more

The drinks are good and the servers friendly. I have a high bar being raised in New York on two Great Lakes and relocating to Dallas from southeast Louisiana. The food is ok. I wouldn't drive all the way to Richardson for the food but if I was in Richardson then I'd definitely stop in for a cocktail and maybe a fried cod sandwich. The fried green tomatoes are coated in a cornmeal that's too coarse, a finer blend would have enhanced the tomatoes. read more

Tricky Fish was my favorite place to go. Today I was so disappointed in the service or non service I recieved. I placed my order at 12:00 for a 12:30 pickup. I arrived to the restaurant to be told my food was up next, that was at 12:30. Here comes 12:45 and still no food. My co-workers ordered at the restaurant and got their food before I did. I had to leave to get back to work. I asked for a refund and was told I would not get a receipt of refund. I have NEVER had this experience at this restaurant. When asked what is a good place to eat I always direct people to Tricky Fish with raving reviews. That has now changed. Today was a great disappointment. read more

Fantastic food and reasonably priced. The Boudin balls were hot and and tender in the middle. The Crawfish Etoufee was hot and perfectly seasoned as well. I've ordered to-go and dine in a few times and each time this place continues to disappoint. I've visited their other location in Frisco and that one has exceptional service, they're very attentive, and clean. I went to this location in Richardson thinking they would provide the same efforts, but I was so wrong. The waitstaff never seem to care about providing good customer service or cleanliness. I've witnessed several waiters bus a table, put their hands on other people's used plates and cups, sweep, and go straight to bringing fresh food out to customers - dirty fingers and all. My guy friend said there was vomit on the restroom floor the last night we came to eat. The food is good, so I've never had issues with my to-go experience. What we ordered - fried calamari: soo good. Highly recommend - tricky fish entree: I've had both the crawfish etouffee and shrimp etouffee and I definitely prefer the shrimp. The blackened redfish and dirty rice are very well seasoned. I don't care for the fried okra, but still recommend this dish - side Mac & cheese: surprisingly tasty! so creamy and lots of flavor! The food is amazing, service and cleanliness is booboo. read more

We had a subpar time this visit. We ordered drinks and a snack of blue cheese chips. The drinks were made quickly and delicious. We sat and enjoyed them for about 20 minutes as we chatted. I forgot we had ordered the chips and asked for the check. As soon as we were ready to leave the chips showed up. I didn't want them anymore since this was a stop before dinner which was directly following our departure. I just wanted to nosh while chatting with my wife, not a sit here and finish this real quick so I can leave. I understand if it were busy, but there were only three other tables seated with the rest of the place empty. I'm not going to say I won't be back, but this visit had me question if I would. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday for Fat Tuesday and had a blast! I'm new to the area and this was my first time at any Tricky Fish. Really nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. I sat at the bar and the bartender, Allen, was very kind and attentive! I had the Mardi Mambo cocktail (PLEASE PUT THIS ON YOUR REGULAR MENU!!!), a margarita ($5 all day on Tuesdays), fried green tomatoes topped with shrimp, $1 peel and eat shrimp, and a cup of gumbo! Everything was delicious!!! The drinks were excellent! In honor of Fat Tuesday, they even had a high school band drumline perform which was awesome! They were really good! and that was a lot of fun! 3rd time here, so I guess I like it. With all the choices in The Dallas area this is a nice place to just sit at the bar and eat. I would give 5 stars for the quality of seafood, staff, cleanliness, but 4 stars for the quantity of what you pay for. Still 100% better than some famous chain seafood restaurants in the Dallas area.
