Love the vibes of this place. Let's start with drinks. AWESOME! The mules were great and I have a campfire old fashion that was incredible as well. Make sure you get the calamari app....you will wish you had gotten three. The prices are a little high and the cheapest thing we ordered was the best. Trust me and go with the fish sandwich. So tasty. They knocked it out of the park. I would stay away from the fish tacos, you are missing nothing there. Who puts cheddar cheese on a taco? Dessert was good too. Definitely won't be my last time going back here! read more

So glad I was able to visit this area and eat at Tricky Fish. TF has a great vibe and layout that anyone can appreciate. We were greeted at the door, asked if we had a table preference, were given a seating card and then directed to the counter to order. I got a salad with shrimp and it came out too soon since the burger my son ordered came out much later. It was ok because we ended up splitting them both. The salad was good, but the burger was worth the wait and surpassed my expectations. I think with their burger, it was all about their layering system which helped keep the bun in tact. It was just awesome and probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. Nothing too big or over the top- just well crafted with great ingredients. Thank you for the dual USB chargers above the table! It amazes me that not too many places do this! It is almost 2019 and we are all tethered to our phones! We need to keep those babies charged! I also like the silverware in the large mason jars- clean and simple. read more

Tricky Fish - Darn Good Salad and a handy USB outlet. - Seafood Near Me - Richardson, Texas

We met up here as a large group, to celebrate the visit of a dear friend. The staff and management were really great about us putting together so many tables (a group of 18), and they did a wonderful job taking care of us. The drinks were pretty solid, with my mimosa being rather tasty compared to its small price tag and size, while the drink I got from the bar was much better. I ordered gulf oysters for the table, which were fresh, succulent, and paired with some fairly standard sauces...I certainly enjoyed them. My friend bought the fried green tomatoes, which had a lovely sauce on them, and blackened shrimp. A pretty good homage to the classic dish, and one that was considered to be one of the better dishes served. For my main course I had the cheeseburger...odd I know, but I was nursing a fairly strong hangover and needed something a bit cheesy/salty. The burger tasted delicious to me, but my girlfriend and my other friends did find it to be a bit dry. I would suggest going for one of the seafood dishes instead. Overall decent, but points off for the dryer cheeseburger, and the so-so drinks. I would definitely come back to tricky fish, although I would probably go to the one in Fort Worth instead. read more

A friend recommended Tricky Fish and they were soooo right! We love their food and can't wait to go back!

They were very accommodating to our huge party! The staff were on point. I ended up getting the American Standard came with eggs, hash, and Andouille sausage. Everything was very tasty. The potato has comes with onions and peppers which adds a nice flavor to the potatoes. The biscuit was so soft and delicious. I asked for my bacon to be crispy and it was okay. The bacon was a little on the greasy side. Our table had some fried green tomatoes and monkey bread. Both were so yummy. I couldn't stop eating the Monkey bread. It was very good and sweet. The fried green tomatoes were really good as well. We enjoyed our time here and the staff was on point. Thank you for taking care of our large party of about 20 people! read more

For drinks we had frozen margaritas which they can make multiple different ways: jalapeño, blackberry, regular, etc. They were very good and perfectly strong enough. For our first appetizer we had the fried green tomatoes which came with a remoulade sauce on top that was delicious. The tomatoes were pretty thickly sliced and there were some blackened shrimp on top that were cooked very well. The second appetizer was the bleu cheese chips. Chips were perfectly crispy with chives, blue cheese and bacon. Great grub food! For main entrees we had Tricky Fish which came with with dirty rice, crawfish etouffee and a choice of blackened tilapia, salmon or red fish. I went with red fish and it was perfectly cooked and the etouffee on top was super good! I've also never enjoyed okra but the okra side was delicious. My wife had the lemon pepper shrimp tacos and they were nice to fry the shrimp for her since she prefers seafood that way. Our waitress came by and was a little stressed but didn't let it bother her at all. She was very friendly and knew the menu well. Good job Hannah! We also had a second round of drinks, a jalapeño mule (choice of passion fruit or mango) and a cinnamon apple julep. A++! The interior is upscale bar/casual. They have some TVs at the bar and plenty of seating. A nice outdoor patio as well! Will be back for sure! read more

We went for date night here last night. We had a scrumptious (and full) meal starting with 2 Caesar salads and a dozen oysters for my fiance. I ordered the Salmon Fresh Catch with garlic butter, grilled. He chose the Mahi Fresh catch with Lemon butter, blackened. We learned after the Caesars were delivered that a half order, or 1 Caesar salad to split was an option. We had no idea! The Caesar salads were HUGE!!!! Absolutely delicious. We could not ask for more in the food, flavor, taste arena. Next time we will get ONE salad to split. The only reason I do not give 5 stars - hostess asked upon entering the restaurant if we would like a table or a hightop table. We chose high-top. She did not tell us that the high-tops did not have a designated wait staff assigned. A sweet lady who seemed to be a manager took our drink order, and then we waited for far too long. We were not greeted by a server. There were PLENTY of staff members milling about, yet no one stopped to introduce themselves and take care of us, take our orders. Eventually we flagged down a guy and he was hesitant at first, but then meticulously jotted down our order and set it in the computer. The food runners presented us with our items as they were ready. I wonder who our tip went to? If we would have known it was a team serving environment(I do not think this is the case), our expectations would have been different. If we would have known we would not have had a designated waiter, we would have chosen a regular table. Again, the food, flavors, tastes, ingredients, meals, portions were EXCELLENT. We would go back and we would recommend this restaurant to friends. Next time, we will choose to sit elsewhere and order half caesars. ;). read more

Came for a late birthday lunch with coworkers at noon; we were a group of around 10-12 and got seated immediately. I really liked the layout and ambience of the place! Everything was clean and bright and the folks at the cash registers taking our orders were very nice. I got the fish sandwich with a side of fries and an extra side of fried okra because I'd seen on Yelp that people really enjoyed them. The cole slaw and the bacon jam in the sandwich were excellent and flavorful, and the fish itself was fried well; only lightly breaded so it actually felt like I was eating fish and not just fried dough. The sandwich bun was also toasted well. I wasn't aware there would be pickles in the sandwich, so if I order it next time I'd ask to have them left out. I'm not quite sure about the combo of all the flavors, especially with the remoulade added, but it was a filling meal and I had fun trying to keep the cole slaw from flopping out :P The thin cut french fries were good; I asked for a side of tartar sauce to dip them in which was a great decision. The fried okra was great! I enjoyed that it also wasn't super breaded like some fried okra can be; I believe these were pan fried with really delicious seasoning. Next time I would probably swap out the side from fries to okra. The portions were huge; I packed half my meal away so I could have it for dinner. Others in our party had the fried shrimp platter and the kitchen sink gumbo; I tried both and the fried shrimp was also perfectly breaded and well-seasoned. The gumbo was good but a bit watery, though the meats in it were great. Service was excellent; water is self serve, but there were always servers coming by to drop off orders and ask if you needed anything else. Next time I'm craving Cajun food I will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I came here for brunch one Sunday. Staff were all super friendly and wearing masks. There is a brunch for two deal on the menu, so we did that. She got the grits and I got the seafood enchiladas. Banana foster monkey bread was a part of the deal, too. All the food was outstanding! We also got the DIY mimosa deal with four difference juices: orange, cranberry, pineapple, and grapefruit. It was a great deal! The ability to pay the bill with your phone was pretty cool, too. All in all, our visit was perfect! read more

I ordered from Tricky Fish Richardson for the very 1st time today 3/4/21 (via Doordash). We had the Tilapia tricky-style, Kitchen Sink Gumbo, and a side of okras. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were adequate. The okras had a surprisingly unique flavor from the way its cooked. We enjoyed everything. I appreciate that they secure the plastic bag with a zip-tie to prevent any food tampering. I usually order food from another local seafood place, but I think I just found my new favorite spot. Our first time in, we ordered the couples brunch. Let me say I was highly disappointed with my seafood enchiladas. The menu didn't state there would be onions and peppers in it. They made up more than a third of the dish. I spent my time picking around them as I do not like them. The eggs were okay the potatoes were not cooked all the way there also wasn't any queso as listed on the menu. My wife said her hash didn't have cheese like is stated in the description of her hash and her eggs were overcooked, she asked for over easy. The monkey bread was a redeeming part of the meal. Our server started out great but only spoke with her once after ordering, she asked about our food I explained I wish they would've said there was peppers and onions in the enchiladas and she was like I hate onions too then walked away, and once for her to bring the check. read more

NOLA Benedict w/ Coffee Oh man this was good. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. I believe the owner even came out to see how everything was which means that they really care about quality. I like this spot. Even though honestly, i have yet to find a dish that i really like from here that makes me say the food is unbelievable but I dig the spot and the atmosphere. That being said - the Mac n cheese was pretty darn good. I like Tillamook cheese so that's a bonus. The drinks are actually great! Food was good. Depending on who's working the bar.. you should get good service. Good people watching.

The food and service here is great. We came here on a Friday night so it was pretty busy, but the service was still fast and friendly. The chef and manager also came around to greet every table and to see if everything was good. We ordered gumbo, the tricky fish plate, and a fried platter with shrimp and catfish. The gumbo had the perfect amount of spice and contained sausage, chicken, and shrimp... yummy! The catfish was just so flakey and soft, the fries were perfectly seasoned, and the tricky fish plate (which consisted of blackened fish, dirty rice, and okra) was a party in the mouth! I highly recommend this place if you crave heavily cajun spiced foods cause this place doesn't disappoint! Overall the restaurant is clean, prices are fair, service is great, and food is delicious! read more

Warning about the happy hour bar scam. My wife and I went in at 3p today and sat at the bar for happy hour. We asked for the happy hour menu. We pointed at the old fashioned on the happy hour menu and each ordered one. About halfway into our drinks ordered the fried green tomatoes, again pointed at the happy hour menu. Everything was good, so I ordered another old fashioned. The bartender mixed the cocktail and dumped it into my existing glass (which was lazy, but hey, it's a happy hour cocktail). We asked for the check and everything was full menu price. The bartender said we didn't ask for the happy hour drinks and appetizer, and he had made us the full price Woodford reserve drinks instead of the old forester happy hour drinks. He then said he'd buy us a drink next time we were in to make it right. No thanks, but you are now forewarned about how you have to order at happy hour in this establishment. read more

I heard there was a cajun restaurant opening in Fort Worth called Tricky Fish. If ya know me, I wanted to run to this place immediately after pay day. Now call me lucky, but I'm out in the Dallas area to visit a friend and her new babe. Trying to determine where to go to dinner, I find this is in the area... and here we are! Boy was I glad we went. My friend was starving so she immediately ordered the calamari. The calamari was different than any other I've had. It had calamari, okra, and bell peppers. I prefer a heavily seasoned batter, so was very very slightly disappointed in this, but the okra and bell pepper were a wonderful addition. Can't say I was a huge fan of the bell pepper, but I liked the addition, and it added a new volume to calamari I've never had. I ordered the crawfish etouffee. I was very, very very pleased! This dish was sapid and surprisingly spicy. Not a burn your face off spicy, but to a spicy head like myself who wasn't anticipating this to pack a punch, it was dare I say a perfect heat! The dish looked kind of small at first glance, but I was surprised how full I was and how much this dish filled me up. I wanted a little more rice, but other than that, this was some pretty good etouffee. This was served with a roll, with some delicious sauce on it, and you know me and bread. I was happy as heck. My friend ordered two dishes. I had a bite of hers as well, and was pleased with both the Mac and Cheese with Shrimp and the BBQ Shrimp Piquant. This place had pretty good happy hour hour offering $2 off drinks and craft beers on the menu and $5 moscow mules. Definitely worth checking out if you wanna get some affordable drinks after a hard work day. Overall, this place was the bees knees, and I can't wait to eat here again. read more

Great restaurant! I ordered the Fish Sandwich with fries. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The fish sandwich was big enough for it to fill me up. I also ordered the french toast sundae. I loved this dessert. The sweetness of the french toast combined with vanilla ice-cream was exquisite. As for the atmosphere, it's nice and quite casual. The service was 10/10. The workers constantly came by and asked if my friend and I needed anything else, which was kind. I would come back! read more

Please be aware that while their food is still very good, and their staff is doing a great job wearing masks and gloves, many of their patrons are not. They are also, as of tonight, NOT SOCIALLY DISTANCING the tables. We arrived at 6:45pm (family of 4). We decided it would be safer to eat in the patio where no one else was. Our waiter was pleasant and took our order. Within 5 minutes, 3 other groups (1 family of 4 adults and 2 separate couples) arrived, no masks and sat on the patio. There are only 3 tables on each side of the patio. None of the tables were blocked so all of the tables/ patrons remained less than 2 feet from one another. No staff approached and requested they move. More than a dozen others walked in and out of the restaurant in the same 10-15 minutes without masks at all. So, buyer beware. That's all. If you are high risk like me, take your food to go- which is what we had to request. Disappointing but safer. I wish the manager, when we spoke to him, would have been more compassionate and understanding. It was obvious he was just happy to have the business. read more

This place was worth the visit. The food and drinks were awesome! The service not so much. It is conveniently located near the dart train and has some up close parking if you are lucky. I still need to explore the area more to see what other places stand out in this new development. I had the Grilled Redfish and a side of okra. I also had a couple of their signature mules. They were both good and I plan on trying more next time. The food and okra were awesome as well and I would definitely order that again. I usually want to try all kinds of stuff each time I visit a place, so I can experience everything. But then you know you always have a fav dish that you just want to order no matter what. The redfish may be that regular at this place. There were 2 waiters and it was not busy for a Monday afternoon (5pm), but they just seemed distracted. They never thought to refill our water and would often stand near the bar or front door. It even took him a while to come by so I could order another cocktail. That always bugs me when they do that, because I like to drink. :} I'm sure it was just so slow before the dinner rush that they thought they could slack off. read more

Really enjoyed our meal here! We came as part of the Yelp event and thoroughly liked the food and service. Our drinks (berry cocktail and mango jalapeño mule) were a bit too sweet for our tastes. The oysters were nice and fresh, and came with all the options for dressing them, including fresh horseradish of which I was a big fan. I got the fish and chips and my friend got the shrimp pasta. The breading and flavor of the fried fish was unexpectedly satisfying, and I usually need malt vinegar for my fish but was content without it. The pasta was nice and flavorful, and the shrimp were a good size. We left very happy!
