Chill vibe! Cool service. The Shrimp and Grits had a different twist to cajun seasoned shrimp and grits, but it was good.

Food was so good! Had live music piped in from the patio area. Quick walk from the parking garage. It was loud inside but had a fun atmosphere. Ready to go back! read more

Food was really good! My passion fruit Margarita was awesome. I really enjoyed the kitchen sink gumbo. And we even saw another couple get the todays catch with herb butter and we were low key trying to get that afterwards but changed our mind. we enjoyed what we had. the food was great UNTIL I got my fries there was a bug on my fry so but it wasn't the waiters fault so she talked to the manager and we don't get a refund like what we paid over 50 dollars and the food was also a little salty and I don't think you should come here read more

The service was really solid - extremely friendly, attentive, and provided great recommendations. The food was also solid - but I wouldn't suggest the fish & chips. I've been on a hunt for great, British/pub style fish & chips this month and keep striking out here in Dallas. Don't get me wrong - the fish was solid and had great flavor. But the batter was just not right. The single portion of fish served was really large - maybe too much fish vs batter? A little longer in the fryer? Thicker cut chips? I typically find an Old Fashioned to be too sweet for me but they offer a smoked version that's absolutely worth a try. Overall, a solid option for seafood, but I wouldn't recommend their fish & chips if you are looking to feed your British pub craving. It's just not close enough to the real thing. read more

Tricky Fish is terrific! Definitely a keeper! A couple months back my husband said there was an area near us that had a number of new restaurant to check out. Was in the mood for seafood and TF popped up - yay! Hostess was super nice and friendly - love that! Every single staff member made eye contact with a smile - 5stars for customer service!!! Place is very cool and modern. Our waitress was so sweet and accommodating - we took our time trying to decide between brunch or the main menu. She came back a couple of times and didn't make us feel rushed. They have a Mimosa bar - so you order a bottle and then pick out a different juice to mix with fresh berries. Genius... We ended up ordering Potato Chips w Blue Cheese (with bacon - yes please!!!) as a starter. We also had Gumbo and Grilled Redfish w a wilted spinach salad. I would order that everyday if i could. Delish! Our server (sorry i didn't catch ur name!) was so terrific - i'll give her a shout out the next time i go and update. Will def will be back and try some other tasty dishes! Bar looked inviting so will def do a happy hour there as well! read more

My husband and I love this place. We always get the tricky fish because the okra is just so good. The staff are friendly and service is pretty quick. There are a lot of restaurants around this area but we haven't tried any since we love this one. The best okra you'll ever have for sure is here. read more

Not a bad little seafood concept here. Solid three spot only because I have only been there one time. This seafood spot would be more of your casual seafood joint you would find in a relaxed beach town with a local flare. Not super expensive but still has a well-rounded menu. The service was excellent, and the food was fresh. we had the Fish & Chips (bland), Peel & Eat Shrimp, and Kitchen Sink Gumbo. read more

Tricky Fish - Fish & Chips - The only thing I am not wild about is one single fillet of fish. A bit bland and could use flavor. - Seafood Near Me - Richardson, Texas

Great food and portion size was solid. Reasonably priced. Our main course was brought out right after we finished appetizer and we didn't wait long for anything despite it being busy. I would definitely go back if in the area again read more

I have been to this location before and truly enjoyed my experience, but I was not impressed during my second visit. I ordered the kitchen sink gumbo and it was subpar. The roux was bland and has little flavor, the chicken was rubbery, and the sausage was over cooked. My saving grace was the half bottle of hot sauce I threw in the add some flavor. I will be back, but I won't be trying to gumbo again. read more

Stopped in to Tricky Fish for a quick lunch before I had to run off for a nearby appointment within an hour. I was concerned whether I would have enough time, but service was very quick! Someone greets you when you walk in and assigns you a table #, but you still walk up to the counter to place your order, which they then bring to your table. I liked that the booths/tables around the walls all had outlets/UsB ports for charging, since my phone is ALWAYS dead or dying! Very clean, spacious interior, with a bar to the left. You can see the bar tv from really anywhere you sit in the whole restaurant. So I kept it simple and ordered the Macaroni and Cheese, which you get with a choice of Grilled Chicken or Shrimp. Came out promptly. The macaroni was coated in a nicely melted cream with fresh shredded cheese on the top. Great flavors, not too overwhelming. The grilled chicken tasted like it just came off a charcoal grill. Tender and delicious. I am VERY PICKY about my mac n cheese and this one definitely was done well. Great size for lunch. I had a tiny bit left over, just enough for a snack later. Only really tiny "thing", they have forks in a glass jar on the table but no knives (you can ask for one). I have heard their craft cocktails are a must (Cinnamon Apple Julep sound delightful!), so will have to revisit to try them out when not on a work break! read more

Normally food is really good. When doing a take out order, cashiers never want to provide change when I'm paying in cash. I have to ask for my change. Either they can't count or they are expecting you to forget. Regardless, this has left a bad taste in my mouth. They should at least ask if I want my change. Also, I ordered queso and chips and the queso was watery. Went back and the manager true to tell me that queso looks like that. I have had the queso plenty of times there before and it was never water down. read more

We got the fried platter with catfish and shrimp, I will say that the shrimp was a bit tougher than expected but the catfish absolutely perfect! On the platter we subbed in Mac and cheese for the coleslaw and it may have been our best decision of the night! The cheese itself was so creamy and flavorful, next time I go I'll probably order the Mac and cheese as an entree. As for the ambiance, it is a pretty happening place and was really packed when we went for dinner. Nevertheless the service was amazing and the staff kept up with the chaos. If you prefer a quiet dinner location this may not be the spot for you, but I'd recommend giving this place a go! read more

From the time we walked in the front door until we departed, our experience at tricky Fish was Top Notch. In Short, I Highly Recommend You try it As Soon As Possible! It meets all of my criteria for 5 stars which I rarely give out, especially on the first visit. Food The quality, portion size, freshness, and preparation are 100% in line with the pricing and expectations. The menu is diverse enough to give you a broad selection of seafood choices. Make no mistake, this is a seafood establishment committed to doing it right. You aren't getting some frozen food distribution fare here. For example, our peel and eat shrimp tasted fresh enough to put me on a waterfront place on the coast instead of in a strip center in Richardson. That impressive. The drinks are well prepared and stout with a price that bucks the trend I've seen lately of way overpriced drinks. Again, full bar with a few specialty drinks on the menu that are unique, well thought out and tasty. Moving on to the entrees we both had the redfish Ticky Fish which is a generous portion of Fish grilled or blackened with an etouffee sauce on top. Delicious! We finished the meal with something called French toast Sundae that was outrageously good. Some type of baked good that had been cubed then browned and drizzled in a sauce with a scoop of ice cream. I typically don't like this type of dessert but it was magnificent. At first sight the menu may seem limited but, in my opinion, its so well rounded and thought out that there are surprises around every corner. The only thing that was a huge surprise is the wonderful meal and reasonable price we walked away with! read more

Tricky Fish is a New Orleans style seafood restaurant in Richardson that may be the best in the area. I'm a big fan of Pappadeaux and Nate's but after a couple of visits to Tricky Fish I'm ready to declare this at the top. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - You will find Tricky Fish in Richardson's Cityline development. Inside you'll find an open space with outdoor seating, a full bar, and plenty of seating. We came in for brunch on Sunday and the place was packed by the time we left. 1 Star. Service - The first time I visited during a weekday they had counter service. On my visit during Sunday it was full service. Our server was great. She explained the concept, made several recommendations, and was always present when needed. 1 Star. Food - I love food from New Orleans. I think they have the best food in the US, and Tricky Fish represents the region well. We started with fried calamari and blue cheese chips. The calamari was good, but the fried okra and banana peppers made it NOLA style and made the app great. The chips where freshly cut and fried and the blue cheese wasn't too over powering. Who am I kidding, I'm going to love a fried potato no matter how it's served. For brunch I had the fried shrimp and oysters over grits. The shrimp and oysters were corn meal fried. Plump, juicy, delicious. The grits were full bodied and there a dash of BBQ sauce to give it a kick. It's a full dish - I couldn't finish it. And then there was the bread pudding sundae. Our server recommended it, and we benefited. The bread pudding was made from French toast and the caramel drizzle and ice cream brought it all home. Order this to share - it's huge. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I will drive to Richardson for the sundae. While this review focuses on their appetizes and brunch, I'll be back to try the gumbo and etouffee. Not sure if they do crawfish or not but if they do, I'll be there. 1 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Yelp score. read more

The crayfish etouffee is amazing and the fish is cooked nicely. The main problem with restraunt is it is just bunch of high school kids running the front. We saw our waiter one time and that was take the order. We had to wave down other kids passing by to get anything. read more

I love how this restaurant is close the Renaissance Dallas Richardson Hotel. Two options to there from the hotel, either a 5 -6 minute trip by car, or a 13 minute train ride on the Red or Orange line with a short walk to the restaurant. I really like the Tricky Fish platter. Yelp Week with Tricky Fish was amazing in every way. Thank you Yelp!!!! Onward to the review. This place has a great atmosphere, very laid back and chill. A nice place to bring your family as well. My server, Big Mike, greeted me and right off the back he was Awesome. He knew about the Yelp event and said whatever you need, just let me know. My kind of guy :). My guest and I ordered drinks that Mike suggested and we were semi-satisfied with his choice, I probably wouldn't order those same drinks again. We started off with 2 appetizers, the calamari and the fried green tomatoes. The calamari was the best of the 2, I love that it was mixed with fried banana peppers. It was my first time trying fried green tomatoes and I won't be in a rush to order them again. For my entree, I ordered the redfish that came with a spinach salad and okra. My guest ordered the Tricky Fish entree with the blackened redfish. I definitely enjoyed his fish better, but both were great. We ordered 2 more drinks and this time around, they were on point. All in all we both enjoyed our experience and will visit again. Big Mike was amazing all night, so ask for him when you go :) read more

Food was great. Lighting was nice. I went at lunch time but the speed of service was good. Fresh food cooked to order.

This is a really cool restaurant! Half of it is just casual seating (plenty of it) and the other half is a bar. The staff was very friendly as well! My boyfriend and I got the Tricky Fish entree with Redfish. The redfish is pretty good--nothing too extraordinary though. However, the okra that came on the side is the best I've ever had! It was crispy, and not slimey like how most places make it. But it didn't taste fried either. It also had lots of flavor. The brown rice and sweet roll that came with this dish was also decent. We also tried the Lemon Pepper Shrimp Tacos. The fries that it came with were also awesome! Nicely seasoned. The tacos themselves were a bit lacking in flavor. The coleslaw didn't taste like much except lettuce. The shrimp saved the day with this entree. Oh and I can't forget the Gulf Oysters! They were the bomb. I loved them by itself. Tasted fresh. The French Toast Sundae was also delectable. Pretty sweet, but you expect that. The vanilla ice cream was not your average vanilla ice cream, you could see the vanilla bean flecks in it and the French Toast itself was thick. Crispy and nicely toasted on the exterior, yet super soft on the inside. It was perfect. The portion size was also huge for all these dishes. I would highly recommend this place and will be back! read more

As part of a Yelp Elite event, I was able to participate in a recent event they so generously held. The location is located in a new area close to PGBT and Plano Rd. and has plenty of shaded, private parking (shared by the businesses in the are). The restaurant is a good size and has plenty of inside and patio space that can accommodate large groups. Unfortunately, we arrived around Noon time and it took them a while to greet up (no visible greeter or greeting stand available), and once we were seated, it took about 20 minutes for them to even acknowledge us for drink orders. After another 10 minuets of waiting, we then had our waters. Once we ordered, things started progressing nicely. We ordered an appetizer, the wings, which were delicious - had one because my boys ate them all up! I was in the mood for fish and chips which came out nicely crisped and delicious. My teen, who doesn't eat fish, was so impressed he decided to take a bite and liked it! Husband got a chicken and pork sandwich, which ended up being a chicken breast topped with bacon. He said it was pretty good too. Along with Tricky Fish's generosity, we each received complimentary drinks. I ordered the Campfire S'mores drinks (topped with toasted marshmallows) twice because it was that delicious! The bar tender was very nice and took time to recommend and make a special drink (not on the menu) for my husband who also loves whiskey. Since our experience started off slow, unfortunately we were unable to stick around to order a complementary dessert; therefore, I will have to return so that I can update this review accordingly! Saw this on Yelp and though oOo a new Cajun place and it had good reviews...gotta check it out. Though, my husband and I are from NOLA, so we do tend to be a bit more picky with our food, especially from our hometown. First of all it's located in Cityline, the new area in Richardson off of the GB tollway that's starting to get swanky like the Shops of Legacy. The parking isn't the greatest, but there is a parking garage nearby, so it's not too bad. Not much business for a Sunday lunch, but I was about to bring them a table of 12, so that food better come quick because we were hungry. We're pretty picky with our gumbo, so politely we asked for a sample so we could taste it before we bought a whole bowl. Surprisingly it tasted pretty good. But like my husband said, I wish it had more Cajun flavor vs the spice. But it was still good enough for us to order it. My husband had the Tricky Fish which came with dirty rice, crawfish etoufee, grilled fish, and some bread. I had the fried shrimp poboy with seasoned fries. Crawfish Etoufee - frozen crawfish, the sauce was sweeter than I expected, but the rice was good. Hubs liked the fish. Big portions. Fried Shrimp Po'boy - was AWESOME! It was dressed and the shrimp was fresh and the fry on it was on point. They weren't cheap with the shrimp either. You need to ask for their tartar sauce which they tweaked; it went well with that. The fries were really good too...fresh; not so much when it got colder. Overall, we were very impressed with our food findings, and I think we might have found a new Cajun place. I'll definitely be back again. read more

We loved it when it opened. We were faithful regulars for dinner and for takeouts for a while. Then the quality got to the point where the food was getting overpriced. Today we ordered to go. Fish and chips: looks like 3 pieces of fish were stuck together during frying, so the butter was raw in the middle. Kind of gross. Someone made a boo boo, and it should not have left the kitchen. I got a DGS salad. It should be called CCS (cranberry&crouton salad). If someone is really into cranberries and croutons, they will love it. I was hoping for a better proportioned dish, and taking CCs out made the salad too small for a meal. I am placing this review in order to get manager's attention. We love your place, and we want you food to be great again. Please, do something about quality control! read more

What a amazing little place and love the title tricky fish name! Find parking either in the garage or on the side of the building and then come on! You are going to be greeted by an awesome host with a great smile with their Tricky Fish outfit (shirt)! Low top and high top tables to fit small and big groups, with a bar to sit at if that's your choice! Let me start by saying that their French toast dessert is a must order! Hot right out the fire or however they do the French toast it's small bites with a beautiful scoop of ice cold ice cream on top, French vanilla! You have a plethora of different beverages to choose from whether it's beer, wine, mules or spirits! They have also an assortment of appetizers ranging from Thai wings and seafood options! I ordered the Thai wings with the sauce on the side and their coleslaw, you have a choice for it to be regular or spicy! The table ordered the catfish and shrimp fried which came out light and fresh! Also the seafood shrimp salad, which looked super fresh! The hamburger was ordered which was just OK, and the shrimp and grits have a type of sauce that is marinated over the entrée, so ensure to read what that is so that it tastes to your liking! The macaroni and cheese is really good as well if you're into cheesy pasta dishes! Our waitress was super nice and very attentive! I will be back cheers read more

So glad to find this new restaurant tucked away on the east side of 75 and Plano Parkway at City Line Shopping Center. My friend picked this spot for us to meet at for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. We were immediately seated and greeted by an extremely helpful waitress. Great news is that their happy hour lasts until 7 pm so we were able to grab some affordable beverages. We also started with the fried green tomatoes. They come with shrimp on top but we asked for them to put that on the side. I really enjoyed the crunch of the tomato even though they were fried, really good with great flavor. After much debate over the menu, I went with the deconstructed burger. I know it's a place known for fish but the burger sounded so good and it tasted just as good as I imagined. I'm doing the keto diet and I was worried about getting something fried. I love how they put everything separate so I could pretty much put my burger together the way I would like. My friend got the salmon and she literally devoured it. We both wanted to try the dessert but we were too full. We will definitely be back. read more
