Superb dinner and service! This restaurant is one of our favorites. We went Thursday night for a 4 course early Valentine's Day meal. Every course was delicious! I especially loved the truffled Caesar, the truffle mushroom gnocchi, the chicken dish, and the most amazing tiramisu. The Chef, Rich, came out to talk to us. He was so nice and we loved that they put this thoughtful menu together and made it such a great deal (given the circumstances) of the pandemic. I was looking for a place to bring my GF to on her BD and Tresca was the place Shannon B. suggested, after some research I decided to come here. We decided to go for Tresca tasting and matching wine flight ($65+40 per person). Sound good right? The tasting was 3.5-course menu. That meant we would share some dishes. Our first dishes were different while I got Capesante Veneziane (seared sea scallops, which huge), she got Gamberoni Croccante (jumbo shrimp with spicy chili). They were both delicious. Then we shared Pappardelle Piemontesi (Pappardelle pasta with wild mushrooms) and we loved it, the pasta tasted so good with the wine, yumm. Our entree had been served, she got Agnello Sardo (rack of lamb) and WOW it was so fantastic, juicy and tender. She definitely loved that dish. And I got Vitello della Toscana (veal porterhouse). My dish was awesome, well cooked and really tasted great, I thought I couldn't finish it but ended up found the empty dish. Then we had cheese, we didn't have cheese often but I like it. Hmm. So we had a fantastic dinner, great memory and wonderful service from our server, Philip at Tresca. Came here for Dine-Out Boston with a friend and made the reservation on OpenTable. I arrived about 5 minutes before my reservation time as my friend informed me he was running a few minutes late. The front of house greeted me warmly, checked me in, and asked if I would rather wait for my friend at the bar or just be seated at the table. The bar looked full, so I opted for the table. After I was brought upstairs and seated, I was greeted immediately by a server. Ambiance was actually pretty quiet as the upstairs was only about 1/3 occupied. Lighting was just right - not too bright where I feel like I'm under a spotlight and not too dark where I can barely read the menu. The featured Dine-Out Boston menu was really straightforward. The lobster stuffed mushrooms I received were pretty tasty and had consistent amounts of lobster in each. The bread they served was actually a tad cold, not warmed or even room temperature. We also ordered an additional appetizer of fried calamari which was a smaller portion than what I found at other places and it did not have any pieces of the tentacles included - just rings - and that was actually pretty disappointing. The twin tenderloins served with a marsala sauce with broccoli and mashed potatoes was satisfying enough. My only nitpicky point here was that while I requested a medium cook, one was over to medium-well while the other was a bit closer to medium-rare. Struck me as kind of odd since they were both the same size. Also, while the marsala sauce had great flavor, there was barely any of it on the plate. The tiramisu was nice, light, and not too sweet. Overall, an above average experience even for a Dine-Out Boston feature. Competition in the North End is high - not sure if this is a standout for the price you pay. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for some time now. Staff were very friendly. We had a small group and service was relatively quick. We started with the Chicken Parm Egg Rolls, I was a little skeptical at first but they were absolutely delicious! Highly recommend. The Anna Maria's stuffed meatballs were on point as well, the beat all was perfectly cool, nice and tender and the sauce was perfect. For a main entree I had the Ravioli Arsgosta, which is their version of love are ravioli. The sauce was amazing, the lobster however was less than free, it was a little disappointing, it comes with sun dried tomatoes which was a nice touch. The Bolognese was spot on, nothing extra special but perfectly cooked, full of flavor. Overall, it's a solid North End restaurant, their prices are a bit high compared to other places with similar menu items. read more

The braised short ribs are a 5 star dish and if you get this you will not be disappointed. This dish was considered an appetizer and it is one of the best appetizers in the North End. The braised short ribs are served over a creamy polenta. I usually hate polenta but these were so creamy and tasty that I actually loved it. We also got the arancini which were also very good. The arancini are served in smaller size balls which make it great for sharing. I've only had arancini a couple times before and these were by far superior than the other places. For dinner I had the highly popular gnocchi di tartufo which is black truffle ricotta gnocchi with wild mushroom ragu and truffle oil. This was a very good dish but I felt like I could barely taste the truffle oil. My friend had the pollo ala nona which was a rigatoni dish with chicken, pancetta, and peas in a cream sauce. This dish was definitely very tasty. The great thing about these pasta dishes is that the waitress indicated that we could order half portions. Usually many of the restaurants don't blatantly offer that and this is great option to have for many reasons. Moscow Mule is my favorite drink and I was thrilled to find this was on their drink menu. Not only did they have it, but they made it strong and served it in a copper mug! The drinks were good, the service was very good and it was another fun night out in the north end. Tresca is on the pricier side but I would recommend it and will definitely come back. Update: The veal meatballs are also a great appetizer. They give 6 small meatballs so it is another great option as an appetizer to share. They come with a pesto sauce and a marinara sauce. The lobster scampi is an amazing entrée and it may be my new favorite dish. read more

I was expecting Tresca to be good, but I was blown away. The service was outstanding. Attentive but not obtrusive. The bread was wonderfully fresh. Boston's best water beats any bottled variety. We started with friend calamari. Then the soup - roasted fennel tomato bisque - was perfect after a hot day on the beach. Pasta we split between gnocchi and fra diavolo. I tried both, loved both, but still would pick the gnocchi first (as my personal preference). Everything went down well with a delightful simple Pinot Bianco from Alto Adige. We had to skip dessert, but finished with a nice expresso. Most phenomenal is the option of half sized pasta dishes. This makes eating a much greater pleasure. I don't like doggie bags when I have other things to do before returning home. Smaller dishes are great. Now Tresca has entered my favorites list. read more

My colleague of Italian descent picked this spot for dinner during my brief visit to Boston recently. And oh my, was it delicious. We began the evening with the truffle oil fries and a Manhattan. The fries were covered with generous shavings of parmesan cheese. I would've been content if this had been my dinner. Instead, I decided to live it up. I ordered the Truffle Ricotta Gnocchi for my entree and followed it, as I'm told the Italians do, with the Insalata Di Pere. I'm a voracious eater and I went there ravenous, but I couldn't finish it all. Such a shame too since I couldn't take the leftovers back to my hotel. I write this only to advise that the portions are generous and very "splitable." We went back to Tresca two weeks ago, me, my fiance, and her niece. We got there, and Valet took the car, we were seated immediately at our table. The host snapped his fingers towards one of the runners, and said get this gentleman a chair from the upstairs dining room. The host then told me, I am not comfortable in these chairs, and I'm sure you will be much more comfortable in the one we will get for you. THAT IS SERVICE !!!!! Our waiter Paul came over got our drinks going, and things were great. Martinis were very good. The petite filetto, has to be one of my favorite appetizers, that I tell people about, because I can visualize the perfectly grilled piece of meat with the lil splash of vinegar n the plate and the shaved Romano cheese, and how it just melts in your mouth. I had the Double thick Pork Chop, which was truly phenomenal, it was cooked with onions and a pancetta gaze, so you got the rich flavor of the pancetta, then the juicy flavor of the pork chop, and the sweet and sour vinegar peppers. My fiance's niece, is a very plain eater, and was super impressed she went outside of her comfort zone and ordered a spaghetti dish that was more than spaghetti with meatballs, she was really impressed with the food and the wine. I then asked the host if he remembers the oddest night he ever had working there, and he said, that is how I know you, you sat right next to the lady who thought she had the driest pork chop ever, when she ordered chicken. We laughed about it, and then he told Paul, take care of my friends. The service is really great, and is a little bit expensive, but I have told soo many people from work, who have large families, and cannot usually afford a high end meal, I insisted they try Tresca during restaurant week, and told them what to order from the menu, and guaranteed that they would go back again for a once in a while treat. read more

There isn't a person in the world who doesn't love something on Tresca's menu. The Crespelle al Forno was an amazing appetizer with eggrolled crepes and juicy mushrooms, sliced straight off the cake of happiness. The salad (can't remember the name but it had arugula, parmesean, pears, and pine nuts) was another perfect starter, and the Pappardelle with Mushroom Cream Sauce special had long ribbons of pappardelle that slid down smoothly with the velvety texture of a creamy mushroom sauce. Yum! Tresca's food is good, and there's something for everyone on that menu, but IMHO it's a bit overpriced. $28 for pasta with cream sauce is a bit much, and I could make a less good but significantly cheaper version at home. My one caveat is that I only had vegetarian dishes so I'm not sure I can accurately assess the rest of the menu, which is mostly meat. But if their vegetarian food in any way reflects their meat, I can promise you a palatable plate. So if you're craving good Italian, and your finances are a non-issue, I highly recommend Tresca. read more

It was super dark in here. I understand romantic lighting but this seemed like they were trying to save on the electric bill. GOod thing we were by the window. Honestly, we compare tomato sauce to Nico's and while Tresca's pasta and gnocchi was well made, the sauce just did not compare. I really liked my truffle gnocchi but towards the end found the sauce to be too salty. the gnocchi was soft like pillows and some of the best i've had. service was prompt. This review is for the tasty drinks and the amazing bar staff at Tresca. I cannot attest to the food, although the menu looked delicious. Our family of 6 was looking for a not-busy bar at about 5 pm so we could have a drink before dinner. Chris was our bartender and immediately gave us his full attention. Not packed at all, it made sense he was chatting away with us, but he could have easily prepped for his busy night instead of entertained us. We asked him all about Boston, being tourists, and loved his recommendations. We tried drinks from the menu and also some classics like Manhattans and Old Fashioned. My friend and I made a reservation for restaurant week, and we were running late, but they were still able to accommodate us when we got there. The place is a few stories high, and we got seated on the 2nd floor. For food, I ordered the arancini, seafood fra diavolo, (for an extra $10) and the flourless chocolate cake. The seafood was great in having big shrimp, muscles, and a small lobster tail. It came with angel hair pasta and lots of tomatoes. The chocolate cake was very rich, dense, and very chocolatey. It was a great way to end the meal. The one big downside to our meal was that there were not one, but two giant flies that kept flying around our table, which I ended up getting rid of. The service was a little slow, possibly because there were lots of other tables, but our waiter never checked in with us during our meal. We know we spent a super long time there because there were tables seated after us who also left before us. This place is definitely not the best restaurant week spot, but possibly for a different occasion. read more

The manager here is an absolute jerk. We were celebrating my aunt's 60th birthday and were at the bar. He was extremely rude to us and kept telling us we had to move and get out of the way of the bar tables. Understandable that people eating dinner don't want to feel crowded. We moved twice and he was still persisting we move, despite the fact that we just paid a $200 bar tab. He also was letting a group of 4 young girls who were ordering drinks from the bar squat at a table that was "reserved for dining" and never said a word to them, but insisted I not stand with my own mother. What a gem! I moved to the North End recently and was eager to find "my spot" where I can come to after work, sit at the bar eat/drink watch games etc. I attended a private event here last year and after that I was hooked. The bartenders Christine & Chris are absolutely wonderful. When I come in they always welcome me by my name & make amazing cocktails and great conversations. The food here is delicious, though it can be very dangerous (in a good way) stuffing my face a few times a week here, but its always worth it. We would've walked around the North End, but it was rainy that day. All the servers were waiting around anyways. 5pm came and we sat in the corner. It was a nice quiet area. The only complaint I had was the smokers from outside. They stood right next to the window and all the smoke was just in my face. Way to enjoy my dinner. I had the mussels, orecchiette, and the salmon. They were all very delicious and the service was excellent. Just make sure you don't sit on the first floor where the windows are if you're not a smoker! I came here during restaurant week. Our table was ready, but we weren't yet ready to eat so we spent some time in the Bar area, which was classy and comfortable. Struck up friendly conversation with other patrons. When we were ready to eat, we were seated immediately. The atmosphere itself was fine. Waitstaff was helpful and attentive. The lighting may have been a bit too bright for an "elegant" restaurant. The food itself was so so. I got Veal Milanese and she got the Risotto del Mare. Neither of us was particularly impressed with the food. I found the veal to be a bit tough (more like schnitzel than veal). We won't find ourselves there again given the abundance of great restaurants in Boston's North End. read more
