One of my all time favorite places to eat that consistently serves great food. The carnitas sandwich is my favorite. Their garlic fries are to die for. Breakfast is always great and they make their own jam. Go here. As a warning however, the restaurant is small, it can hold one, maybe two, large parties of 6+ people at most. If you are a large party, call ahead. They are not a fast place to go, especially during weekend breakfast hours and weekday lunch hours because they make quality food and not fast, thrown together food. I specify weekday lunch hours of heavy patronage as being from 12-2. That being said, their food is always worth the wait. Make sure you have AT LEAST 1 HOUR TO SPEND on your meal time during weekday lunch rush hours and weekend breakfast rushes. read more

I travel for work and I travel to Redding every Wednesday. I was lucky to find Trendy's. Redding is a mediocre restaurant town at best but Trendy 's excels! The food is great and the staff is equally great. It is family owned and everything is house made. It sometimes takes a while to get your food but it is well worth it. I haven't had anything there that isn't very good but their Reuben stands out-- thick slices of homemade corned beef that is delicious. I just had the Tri Tip Dip and it is also wonderful. The sides are great as well-also home made. Even the coffee is really good. it's Farmers Brothers but it is their French roast, which is definitely several notches above most restaurant coffee. Breakfast is equally outstanding. It's only open for breakfast and lunch but well worth the trip!! read more

By far the best place to eat breakfast in Redding. The inside looks like a cute 50s dinner, while their food is not only beautiful on the plate but also very delicious to eat! The food was alright. A couple of our group got the chicken fried steak; the gravy they claim is homemade but was a bit tasteless and floury. I got two eggs and bacon, the bacon was not very good. The eggs were cooked perfect and quite good. But overall the food was ok, a bit expensive for what we got, but ok. The main downside and reason I would not return though was from the moment we sat down, at around 11am (sat down at the bar because there was no wait there), it took an hour and 30 minutes to get our food! I followed the aroma from M.D. Imaging. The line was out the door, but they cleared those tables fast and we didn't wait more than 5 minutes at noon. Wait staff was super friendly. We both got burgers, I got the Bomb burger, he got a Pesto Burger. Mine was the best burger I have had in town, hands down! Just the right amount of bun, the onion straws were crisp, the aiole was freaking delicious, bacon crisp, burger patty done to perfection, tomatoes and lettuce fresh (they use green leaf lettuce, not iceberg!). It all mashes down to fit in your mouth for the best bite. And then the garlic fries! And the Pesto Burger was the same way! The pesto was so look good, cheesy, melty, obviously freshly made. Wow! This place was a treat! We stopped in here for breakfast one morning because it was nearby and we were happy we did! This is a charming little diner that looks quite unassuming on the outside, but is full of delicious food on the inside! I ordered the linguica hobo and it was absolutely a party for my tastebuds. The potatoes were perfectly crispy, the bell pepper and onion were not overpowering, and the linguica was really allowed to shine in this dish. The staff were awesome, always checking on us, and they looked like they honestly enjoyed working there. The coffee was also surprisingly drinkable! Went here for a business lunch and was pleasantly surprised. When we walked in it seemed super busy and the kitchen looked a little small having worked as a server and restaurant manager in the past I know how that can sometimes spell trouble. Like I said though I was pleasantly surprised The menu was fairly extensive and the side options seemed limitless I believe there was at least 3-4 options for the side I got with my sandwich which was awesome (tortilla chips, fries, garlic fries,salad, fruit or potatoe salad to choose from. I choose a salad and even then I was given the option of 4-5 different dressings- this isn't easy for a restaurant to execute I was super impressed. The service was quick and friendly, our waters were never empty (even after the plates were cleared and check was dropped ). Food came super fast too. The owner or some form of management I'm assuming from his demeanor was lingering around the dining room very unobtrusively and brought some sliced pluots (peach/apricots) to our table. I got the impression he would have stopped and chatted if we weren't clearly going over marketing materials as we were. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that the seating wasn't the most comfortable and the seat I had was kind of jutted out in the servers path. They are brand new though and I'm sure they may still have some details to work out. Overall fantastic fun casual experience. We all loved our food and will definitely be returning. read more

Update: For the kind and fast response from the owner, I'm updating my rating from a 3 to a 4. I am new to living in Redding, so I don't know all of the breakfast joints. My mom took me here for my birthday on December 2. Apparently, "starting December 1, you must have reservations to eat here on Sundays." Okay, well I've never heard of a "reservation only" place for breakfast but whatever. We get there and it is a Sunday. The hostess asked if we have reservations, which we didn't. The hostess went and talked to I guess another hostess or manager and they decided they could seat us, but the hostess in a rude tone told us to "make sure we get reservations in the future." I asked her as she is seating us, where I was I supposed to know about reservations, because their web page-mobile version didn't say anything about reservations. She stated that it was on their web page and posted outside their door. Well, I looked at their web page and outside of their door and there was nothing obvious that I could find about reservations. Finally, I found a post on their Facebook page about reservations. Although, I am not in the habit of checking out a facilities FB pages before I eat somewhere. Anyway, long story short, besides the initial rude experience, our waitress was lovely and the other hostess was sweet and the food was very good. I would have given them 5 or 4 starts if it wasn't for some arbitrary, ridiculous reservations on Sunday rule. This is definitely off the beaten level path by the train tracks but look fun and welcoming from the outside. We walked in and were immediately greeted by several of the staff and made to feel at home. It was a little busy (Sunday morning, definitely expected) so we perused the menu while we waited. What immediately struck me was the fun and interesting take on everything, from the oatmeal (Bananas foster, oh my) to the French toast (Panko crusted yumminess) to their use of interesting ingredients, including crimini mushrooms in many dishes. Ok wow. I just came for breakfast but this looks like a foodies delight. They are open until 2 pm so perfect for brunch. So..once we were seated I decided I HAD to have lunch because there were so many yummy dishes and sides! I Apologize that I did not get any of the staff names but they were incredibly nice and I believe I read that they were a family. Our waiter was a very nice young man who was incredibly helpful in his recommendations. The first thing he asked was sweet or savory? So I ended up with the Chicken Caprese sandwich on fresh focaccia with the tempura fried green beans as my side. With blue cheese dressing, they were perfect and the sandwich was delicious. I want to be honest - chicken was a little dry but sandwich was still great! My brother got the carnitas sandwich with the jicama slaw. Seriously SO YUMMY. Oh my goodness and the jicama slaw was fresh and fun. My SIL got the panko crusted French toast with a side of fresh fruit. Fruit bowl was worth mentioning, very nice. The French toast was yummy but sweet enough that it needed little else. Now we got a side of HOMEMADE RASBERRY JAM and slathered a bit of that on. Yummy. Seriously, fresh jam. We only had iced tea but it was good and they kept them filled. Now as far as price it was a little on the higher side for a breakfast place $50 for 3 with tip but it was worth EVERY PENNY they charged and more. This is NOT your average greasy spoon. And the wait for food was really quite long. I'm not sure how long. It was Sunday around 19 am, busy time. I did not time it or sweat it. I'm with my family, visiting, I didn't mind the wait. What you need to know is - Yes, it all still be hot and HELL yes it will have been worth the wait. So settle in and enjoy yourself! I am visiting from San Diego and I was super impressed and delighted with this Redding breakfast/lunch spot. Wish I had time to come back and try a few other items from the menu. So stoked to find this gem on our way back home to San Francisco from Oregon. Atmosphere is family friendly and super homey. They have a great brunch menu! I opted for the Corn Beef Hash which was recommended by our waitress (her husband's the chef) and it was absolutely delicious! I met Kathi Potter while making copies at Pages copy center and we talked about lost pets and such. I mentioned I was heading to a dining establishment for a late lunch and all of a sudden Kevin at Copies pipped up and raved about Trendy's! He showed So much enthusiasm, well, I already could tell I'd have to try the place. I'm here bright and early today and I ordered the Locomotive and now I am stoked. Literally STOKED! Besides having experienced a great meal, the staff is like family. I enjoyed every moment and my belly shows proof. Expect to take a box full home cuz your plate comes full and you won't want to stop eating it. I had to rest twice and ask for that box so tomorrow I can eat more! Being fairly new to Redding, my husband and I are enjoying discovering the area, and the fabulous eateries, and I have to say Trendy's is definitely one of our new favorites! We had a buy one, get the second 1/2 off coupon, which is what first brought us in, and what a find! First, the atmosphere is homey and quaint, the business appears to be family owned and operated and everyone is incredibly nice. Now let's talk about the food. First time there my husband had the Locomotive omelet, and I had the Monte Cristo sandwich. The omelet looked fantastic, and must have been good because my husband barely said a word after it was brought to him. The Monte Cristo was different than others I've had in that it was made with French toast and not battered and fried, but it was delicious! Served with a side of the best home fried potatoes I've ever had! Usually I pretty much ignore side potatoes, but these are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned perfectly! The bonus? Served with homemade jam. There were a few to choose from; I got the boysenberry which was fabulous with my sandwich and on the homemade biscuit my husband got with his omelet. We've been back, and have a hard time deciding what to order now that we know how delicious everything is! I think we'll just have to keep going back until we can try everything. This restaurant used to be excellent, consistent five star rating. It was owned by a Portuguese family, that had class and knew how to cook and cater to their patrons.
