My friend took me here and said it was really good and highly recommended whenever he drives up here from Sacramento. Apparently they been here for a while and never expanded, even though they are super busy. We waited in line for about 10-20? My friend ordered a hamburger with fries. We shared since it was super huge! The patty was super delicious and good amount of grease. It's very filling and I think 2 people can share half of this burger with fries and be filled. It was super hot that day when we came on a Saturday late dinner, there were clean seating areas inside and outside, but we took it back to the hotel to enjoy the AC and relaxed after coming back from Lassen National Park. This place if fantastic. It has a simple menu with food done right. Seriously good size burger I are ate at about 1pm and skipped dinner. No fooling! Unfortunately just had a terrible experience here. Got two meals for $13 a piece somehow came out to $32. The service was beyond rude, looked very irritated from the moment we came in, didn't say a word to us when given our bag of food. I have been going to bartels for 40 years and had a horrible meal at the redding location a year ago but decided to give it another shot and was extremely disappointed once again. the service was great but the burgers were tasteless. I ordered a bacon burger had one piece of bacon for 1.90? also seems like the fry sauce has been changed. not likely going back which is too bad as I always try and support our local businesses! read more

Fantastic! Reasonably priced! I'm not a fan of thousand island, which the fry sauce looks like. I was pleasantly surprised. Very good! I prefer an independent over chain, any day. If you're on the freeway or other side of town, giddy on up over here. Don't expect fancy. I sat outside and never sat at a more comfortable table at a fast food joint. I had a regular size double cheese with bacon. I can tell that everything was locally sourced. Likely antibiotic free. I come through Redding every couple of years. I love this place it's near my home usually they make good burgers but the last few times I've gone things have not gone the way they should be first starters it has been two different times this week that I have tried to call to place an order I have been on hold for longer than 10 minutes this last phone call they were like oh my God I'm so sorry and I'm like okay well I've been on hold and how am I allowed to order a burger when you're being disrespectful towards me and then she's like okay you don't want to order a burger and hung up I actually have a free burger with you all because you constantly mess up my order you've actually forgotten my order on numerous times I used to love this place now I don't and this is really sad this is how you do business of 50 years maybe you should get a bigger business and some more employees because obviously your intake is more than the customer service that you have on staff I love this place I recommend it to everybody but you never cook the burgers right they're always not done my burgers are not made correctly and I hope the owner see this because the owners need to know that you guys are playing around with people and it's not funny and and when I try to say well I've been on hold for this long and this is what's going on I just get okay fine you don't want to order a burger and hang up on me like this is what you guys do that is so wrong and there's so many people out here that would love a job that would love to give the quality and customer satisfaction that a customer deserves read more

The hamburger was good but the service at the register was really bad , so bad .. I will not likely be going back . The employee behind the counter was rude and very loud . She did not get my order correct , when I told her it was not correct she said she got my order right and that I was wrong . I did not receive a receipt .. Bartel's Burgers located here in Redding at Lake Blvd (the 299) and Hilltop Drive. This is an easy location to get to, just look for the burger shack building, can't miss it. Plenty of parking available here. If you're looking for an old school traditional burger style that hasn't changed since the 70's, this is the place. You order the fries separate from the burger. They come west coast style, meaning with lettuce, tomato and onion, mustard and mayo. You gotta tell em if you don't want lettuce or mustard or something. Back East, I hear you gotta tell the cook what you want on the burger or you get just a bun and meat! So, no, don't expect grass fed, hormone free fancy beef here, it's just a burger and no huge 1/2 pound patties either. Remember when 1/4 lb was a "Giant" burger? The menu is small and includes burgers, fries and shakes along with sodas. The prices don't seem too bad, but adding a Giant Burger with cheese, fries and a drink you're looking at $10 bucks for lunch. If you want a shake a med shake is almost $ bucks with tax. This is still cheaper than Five Guy's Burgers! I went for the Giant Burger with cheese and fries. It does taste like an old school burger, more emphasis on the total balanced burger taste experience with the lettuce and tomato working with the meat, mayo and mustard. This is opposed to a more meat centered experience like you get with a big 1/2 pound charbroiled beef patty with some artisan bun and whole grain mustard with a tomato mayo aioli (1000 island HA!) and duck fat fried fries for $18 or so. The fries here were decent just regular fries. I just wish the buns weren't so squishy! The service was friendly, but not in a fake In N Out way. I'd come back here if it was passing along the 299 in this area. I say give Bartel's a try. If they've lasted as long as they have, they must be doing something right. read more
