Finally got a chance to try Dude's Drive Inn. A few things to note. I would suggest ordering ahead of time (they're on Doordash). I tried calling the phone number listed on their website but it went straight to voicemail (mailbox was full. Just fyi). I pulled into their location and got in line in what I thought was a drive thru (which it is, sort of). There's no ordering speaker with menu. Best to use the drive thru for picking up orders placed ahead of time. There was a car ahead of me and I ended up waiting for at least 20 minutes before placing my order in which I was asked to pull around and park and that my order would be brought out. After waiting for close to 35 minutes, I got my order and an apology for the delay. To the food...I ordered the "Big Dude" with bacon (double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and sauce) and an order of their French fries with fry sauce. The burger was tasty and hit the spot but the star of the show was the French fries. They're not your run of the mill fries that live in a freezer. At least, they didn't appear or taste like it. They were crispy and salty and the fry sauce complimented perfectly. I will definitely visit Dude's again. Only negative was how long it took to get my order and that I couldn't call ahead. read more

Wow, this drive in has been around for a long time! It still takes us back in time with the music and decor. They add items in at the last minute and make the best handmade milkshakes with the most customizable flavors I have ever seen. Went to Dudes drive inn yesterday, it had been a while. When my mom was alive she LOVED their shakes and we would go through the drive thru with my son who still remembers it fondly. So after a few years we went back for burgers and shakes and I'm not sure why I waited so long? The food was absolutely delicious the fry's were amazing and our shakes were top notch as usual! The front counter kid was extremely polite and friendly and the cook (maybe owner) came out to make sure everything was perfect! I will DEFINITELY not be waiting as long to go back this time! I've never been inside, so I can't speak on the ambiance...the service is okay, not excellent but not bad. However, if you're looking for the best burger in town, this is the place. The ratio of patty to cheese, veggies, and bun is perfect. The burger is juicy without being messy, and they nail the amount of sauce every time. I grew up with Dude's and can remember going there as a child, so the nostalgia is a big part of why I continue to go back. I really appreciate that they've kept the building and interior as close as possible to the original--it helps keep that history alive. Food-wise, they still have some standouts. Their chocolate and vanilla shakes are some of the best I've ever had, their tacos are excellent, and the deep-fried burritos are always good. Where I feel they fall a little short is with their burgers. The buns aren't toasted, and in my opinion, they don't quite have the quality they once had (though, to be fair, I've never asked for toasted buns). The other area I think could be improved is cleanliness. The restaurant doesn't always look as clean as it could be, which is disappointing. Stopped her after watching a softball game. The drive thru wait is quite long. Kids working inside were very polite and apologetic for the wait which is something rare these days. My boys got a bacon burger and the dude burger...both said they were really good and weren't too much. I got the super polish which was amazing! Drive Thru line was poppin so we walked in to order. There's an outside window as well as a window inside so choose your poison. They have about 8 tables inside with a 60s Red Burger decor which makes since because they've been flipping burgers since 1965! I was able to order within a few minutes and the prices was very reasonable considering the fresh and ample ingredients (not fast food). I got a couple Big Dude's and a Deluxe Burger all with Pepper Jack cheese along with large fries, large coke, and a large buttermilk shake. Big Dude Burger: 6 - Burger Pattie's were way overcooked and didn't have any crust like a smash burger usually has. Also, the burger needed more lettuce, the rest of the produce was perfectly balanced to include the condiments. Deluxe Burger: 5 - Burger party didn't fit the bun and just like the Big Dude, burger was over cooked and Dude, where's the lettuce? Fries: 6 - Well cooked and perfectly seasoned with salt. Fries could have been crispier, I'm not a big fan of the small cut fries and finally, the large fries were so small for a family run joint. Butterscotch Shake: 9 - Thick shake with fantastic butterscotch flavor without being over sweet. The straw was so small that I had to swap it out. Good stuff! Cool spot to get a burger if you're driving by but I can't recommend driving TO this place unless you're craving a milkshake. I don't know if there's a lettuce shortage or not, but Dude...gimme some greens! If I happen to be by again I'll ask for the burger to be less cooked and see if they're more generous with the lettuce Could have just been am oversight. When I verified that my fries were in fact a large, a worker met me at my car as I was pulling out and just gave me another one. How cool is that? I hope to give them another shot someday. read more

I've ordered twice for delivery (once DD, once GrubHub) and both times what was delivered was not what I ordered; I won't use delivery services here anymore. I really wanted to like this place because supporting small business is important to me. I also like drive in style restaurants for their ambiance. Unfortunately, like others have pointed out, the service is not that great, and the food is average at best. Often times the person taking my order is abrupt and not friendly. The French fries are served lukewarm if you are lucky. The fry sauce is okay, but in my opinion, the consistency is too thin. The burgers are average with the condiments being sliced razor thin. in the past couple months, i've tried dudes drive-in two times. It smells really good when you go by , the first time we ordered, two hamburgers and fries , were so thin and so gross. I didn't even eat mine., then Friday afternoon on the 15th I passed by thinking I could get the dogs a treat , she said they were quarter pounders each, so slimy and greasy I don't know what it was. So there's this here dude that opened a hamburger stand in the foothills town of Redding in the mid-60s. But this was not for the tune in, turn on, & drop out crowd; this was for those who love muscle cars, Creedence Clearwater Revival, fishing on Shasta Lake . . . and burgers. Big, meaty burgers. The turn of the millennium has come and gone, and Dudes Drive-in is still dishing it out. You can eat inside or outside. Inside is a juke box, old photos, and room to dance. Outside are picnic tables where you can see people cruising on Hartnell (sorry, people don't cruise anymore). If you ever wondered what that time period was like, Dudes takes you back there. The cheeseburger tasted like what I would imagine they would have tasted. I had the big patty with pepperjack cheese, and the Hunny and girl both had smaller burgers. Nice and meaty, the flavors came together just right. I prefer it to be bigger, but whatever. The girl also broke rank from the usual Coke and ordered a chocolate milkshake, which seemed fitting to this hamburger stand. Oh, she loved it so much. The fries were actually pretty good. Date night? Well, what to do is he wears a white t-shirt and Wranglers, she wears a plaid shirt over her white tanktop and tight fittin' jeans, and they go to Dudes for a Coke date, flirt with each other a lot, and then put the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" on the juke box. I've been going here since I was old enough to eat a burger... at least 30 years This place has been here over 50 years and still going strong. It's got the vibe of an old school burger spot where the old model cars roll up and hang out. This burger spot's quality has always been consistent. Their meat comes from RR Meat and has always had great flavor. Nothing fancy, just a good 'ol burger Call me crazy but they also have the best corn dog too.
