Everything seemed good. I was visiting my daughter in Redding and I took my son and daughter, and their great aunt out to dinner at Lumberjacks as their selection is good. There is plenty of parking, and a nice diner style ambience, with a very prompt and pleasant server. My son had the 1 lb Big Redwood Burger challenge , while my daughter had the sourdough burger, and their great aunt had the Roast Turkey dinner. I had the fish and chips. Most everything got eaten - 2 small take-out containers were taken home. My daughter started throwing up noon of the next day, no one else felt sick, so it may not be related, and her sickness lasted a little over 24 hours. Weird timing. read more

Stopped here on the way back from OR to Sac. First I'll start with the bathrooms. The women's bathroom was disgusting. The floors are sticky and full of piss. The caulking around the toilet is black and full of pee. The men's bathrooms were the same, but no soap. It's almost like they just don't clean. Service was good despite only one cook and two waitresses. One who went on break shortly after we arrived. The food was not so great. I ordered the appetizer platter. The onion rings tasted like beer, nothing else. Mozzarella sticks were cold. The sweet potato fries were soft and soggy. The chicken wrap met our lowered expectations. I chose liver & onions with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies and my husband had chicken fried steak with French fries and coke slaw. Liver and onions is not on many menus and I am a fan. Both were excellent. Served with choice of chocolate or vanilla pudding. We were seated quickly and service was friendly. The atmosphere is country , lumberjack casual. I tried the Big Redwood burger. It's the biggest burger in Redding. You get your picture on the wall if you finish it. It comes with a 1 pound patty, cheddar and Swiss cheese, lettuce, bacon, and tomato, and fries, and of course, I added ranch dressing. The burger literally takes half the plate, and if you look in the picture of me holding the empty plate, the plate itself is massive. Good times! read more

I asked for a kids pancake and why was it bigger than the whole plate like it's for a child not an adult. When I got there I checked in for my reservation and she said it will be ready soon then five minutes pass then she says she is now getting it ready then an extra three minutes pass and she finally says okay your table is ready and gives us a table that can only fit four people while we have six people. The food is okay but it is freezing in there so I recommend to bring a jacket. read more

Visited this place while in Redding and overall this was a pretty good restaurant. I had the chicken fried steak and it was pretty good and was a good sized steak. The hash browns were good and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The service was great and the ambiance is local lumberjack type diner which is like black bear diner or something along those lines. Wow! We were greeted three times before we were even seated. After we sat down we got our beverages really quickly. After we ordered the beginning of our meal started with her fresh salad and I had the chicken tortilla soup, yummy super good. Talk about perfect timing as we finished those our meal arrived. We both ordered the BBQ Combo dinner. Well I was pleasantly surprised to begin with a nice presentation, the Tri tip was cooked perfectly, the chicken was moist and juicy, the ribs were fall off the bone, even the seasoned fries were perfectly golden brown and I devoured the whole thing. I've been to this restaurant before, but they seem to be getting better than before! So without question best meal I've had this year! I also like to mention that the service we received from "Paris" our server was great, he was friendly, attentive and had a positive attitude like he wanted to be there. We used to visit this place years ago and loved it. It changed so we stopped going but decided to try it again last week. Yikes. I ordered two eggs over medium - they were slimy when delivered so not cooked correctly - with bacon (bacon was decent but not great like it used to be) and hash browns. Randy ordered the eggs Benedict. The sauce only slightly tasted like hollandaise and seemed almost curdled. Our food, except the eggs, was served lukewarm and frankly, we could have done better at home. Because we didn't have a lot of time, we didn't say anything. We were eager to come back this time but we're quite disappointed with the quality of their food. We ordered a California omelette and the ribeye steak and egg breakfast. The omelette filling looked and tasted like what they scrape off the grill when cleaning up after a busy round of cooking. There were a lot of burned onion, 3 very small pieces of mushroom, and I couldn't tell what else was finely chopped up and burned in the over cooked omelette and filling. The ribeye steak was super thin and it would have been literally impossible to cook it to a medium, which we had ordered. There was no wait and we were seated immediately. We had the same server we had the last time we stopped in (I believe her name is Yendi?). She was awesome last time and was just as awesome today. She was very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I overheard the table next to us giving her a bit of a hard time and she handled it very well and stayed professional. Overall all the staff here are friendly, attentive and helpful. The portions are always huge and are priced very fair, I feel that if I went anywhere else I'd spend about +$10 more than I did here. My husband and I went there at 945 on a Saturday night and they were closing at 10. The waitress, Yendi, could not have been more pleasant!! She was so friendly and the service was GREAT!! When it was time to order I had no problems getting alternatives because of my dietary needs and allergies. The portion size was a big winner for me. My burger literally weighed a pound cooked to a perfect medium rare and came covered in American cheese. The veggies were fresh and crispy. They also had cottage cheese for a side option which I loved. The lumberjack theme was fun. There were all shorts of old lumber tools on the walls and the door handles were hatchets. When I walked into this place on our most recent road trip from CA to Oregon, I realized, oh yeah, I have been here before! On another road trip probably something like 10 years ago. I like the cute and woodsy decor inside and the giant lumberjack statue outside. I was trying hard to remember if it was good or not, and I honestly barely have a memory of even being in here, so I figured, hey, it will be like a new experience. Which it was. The waitress was nice enough, but the food was only mediocre at best. I got the Jack's Melt sandwich with fries, and my husband and daughter got a burger and another sandwich. No drinks and the bill was $50. Pretty steep, but nothing new, prices have gone through the roof everywhere. The taste was overall uninspired, and I realize now why it did not make much of an impression on me to remember anything about the last time I was here. read more

Being a local, this WAS one of our regular favorites for over 15 years. Unfortunately a new owner has ruined this restaurant. The service still remains very good. They regularly remembered your drink order accompanied by a smile. Yesterday our visit changed our view and won't be back. The food was OK but noticeably took some time to get to the table. The quality and consistency has dropped. Portion size has also been reduced. The place was usually busy at any time but there were only 3 tables of customers, including ours, on a Sunday afternoon. Recently the prices have jumped since the new owner took over, but the UP CHARGING is what you have to look out for. Add onions, $1.59, side of pickles, $1.39, and get this: $1.59 to change existing Swiss cheese on a sandwich to Pepper Jack. Not extra, just a change. We asked our waiter about the cheese charge. He said the manger told him it was because Pepper Jack is more expensive. That's a load of BS. This kind of extra charging is just greed and will ruin this restaurant. My partner in crime said he would travel to come eat their food. While our visit to Redding, Ca was July 8 to 9 we had tried different places to try cause we are foodies. He bumped into this listing on google or yelp, cause I specifically requested a diner. We love diners specially the mom and pop kind, this place was a great find I give the credit to Pedro for that. The place is clean, beautifully kept/managed. The service staff was great and friendly. And on top of that the food was awesome, I always ask for recommendations when I go to new places I have been told by others it's not always great to ask the servers what is best, but this was not the case for this diner. We were glad I went with the cheese steak sandwich dip and chocolate and he chose the breakfast dish though it was dinner time, we care not for time because we eat what we like.
