First off, the rice, white queso dip, cream sauce, salsa and bean dip they have, rival a favorite place of mine in LA called Salsa and Beer I ordered basic cheese enchiladas (one with red sauce, one with green sauce). They were FANTASTIC. If you think something as simple as a cheese enchilada can't be gourmet and elevated, I suggest trying anything from Rick Bayless (Chicago or LA) and El Cholo (LA) with their aged cheddar. All that to say, Casa Rios didn't disappoint. My friend got the chili relleno with cream sauce, one word, FANTASTIC. I like that it had a bit of char to it and that it wasn't super eggy. It had a nice crisp to it. For desert (it being my bday week and all lol) was their coconut tres leches cake with strawberries. Another smash out of the park. I will definitely be back. Dog-friendly seating patio outside. The young cashier was really nice and when I told him I thought the mild red sauce was excellent he shared that it was his favorite. I also met one of the owners and there's something special about the people who run a small restaurant with incredible pride because they put so much love into the food. First time there in 12 years and the chef (Manny's dad) nailed it! Thus, my "Incredible" in Spanish. Place was clean with nice selection of music, not too loud or cold. Like Goldilocks, everything was just right. My friend had the carne asada burrito and was equally impressed, finishing it in record time, despite their burritos being the perfect size. Big, without being jumbotron or all tortilla folded. Mr. Ortega is damn good at sizing up those tortillas, no waste, no extra folded up tortilla, no leak. Did I mention their salsa? Take your pick from their self serve area. Red, green, hot, mild and "sometimes hot" to choose from. Manny's a great waiter and no doubt son, husband and father, with his great personality and smile. Help yourself chip and salsa bar was appreciated and having 6 choices of agua fresca was a pleasant surprise! The birria was very tasty and the right amount of meat inside. The consumé was perfect and not too salty. My only complaint is the tortilla could have held a little more red sauce and been grilled a little longer. I will return to try other menu items here.
