As anticipated, the place was gorgeous...with a slightly formal air. Given that it was in the Vail Village (near the ski slope), my husband was able to enter the place in his rugged ski suit. Despite the ambiance, it was a bit dead. I was disappointed with the lack of French music overhead...though maybe it was on so low, I didn't hear it? There were plenty of breakfast-brunch options, but on the menu, some items were noted as taking 20 minutes (which we didn't have time for!), so I was a tad bummed about that. In any case, my husband chose this Huckleberry Bacon French Toast, and I ordered the Maryland Crab Benedict. For drinks, we both just ordered plain coffee. As expected, the foods were good. I was more impressed with my husband's choice, this super-fancy french toast. Not only did it look amazing, it tasted spectacular! Mine was good, but disappointing at the same time. I really liked the Crab Benedict, but I only half-liked the side salad (basically just Arugula with a few Walnuts and Figs). The total bill for these items ran over 100 bucks... which, was to be expected in Vail. However, for such a pricey breakfast, I felt that I should have absolutely loved it...but it felt short of that. Overall, I just expected a bit more from this breakfast experience. Again, the decor was gorgeous, but the ambiance wasn't fully there (because of the lack of music?). Service felt a bit short-skimpy as well. Foods were good, but mine especially (Crab Benedict) felt a bit lacking. Let's just say that I've had Crab Benedicts as just as good for half the price...and with better sides. I've been coming here since 2009, and although I'm not in town very often anymore, this has always been my go-to spot whenever I visit. It's a place where my children and I enjoy getting coffee, cinnamon rolls, or lunch, sitting down to relax, and simply spending time together. Over the years, it has become a familiar and welcoming place that feels a little like home. Unfortunately, today was the first time in all these years that I genuinely felt unwelcome. During my visit, an employee made the comment, "Boy, we just can't get rid of you, can we?" Although it was delivered in what seemed to be a joking, sarcastic manner, I found the remark inappropriate and uncomfortable. I have never had an employee here speak to me that way before. Shortly afterward, I overheard what sounded like the same employee speaking with other staff members and making a comment along the lines of, "Who is this guy?" I certainly understand that employees joke around, and I'm willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt. However, there is a difference between friendly humor and making a longtime customer feel as though their presence is an inconvenience. As a paying customer who has supported this business for more than 17 years, I would hope that I am just as welcome to come in, enjoy a coffee, sit down, and relax as anyone else. I regularly see customers spending hours here working on their laptops, socializing, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. I've always understood that to be part of what makes a coffee shop such an inviting place. I'm not asking for special treatment, nor do I expect anyone to recognize me or know how long I've been coming here. I simply expect the same courtesy, professionalism, and respect that every customer deserves. I'm leaving my five-star rating because one disappointing interaction should not erase 17 years of positive experiences. However, I sincerely hope management takes this feedback constructively.
