I ordered lunch catering for 30+ people for our offsite meeting at The Cannon on Brittmoore. Everyone loved the food! Some colleagues mentioned they hadn't eaten Treebeards since they left their downtown job and missed the food. They didn't know about the Bunker Hill location. April was very patient with all my order changes during the quoting process. She also helped guide me on some sizing, along with options for the attendee list. Food was fresh, warm, and on time! Everything was labeled which was extremely helpful, as I had vegetarian and gluten free. The delivery driver did a great job of helping set everything up, he double checked the list after he set it all up, ensuring nothing was missed. I recently tried the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and collard greens, and I have to say, the meal was quite bland. There was a noticeable lack of seasoning throughout the dish. The mashed potatoes were a bit plain, and the collard greens didn't stand out at all they definitely could've used a blend of seasoning to enhance their flavor. I tried to mask it with hot sauce but it didn't help. Also, the service was a bit lacking; you order first and then seat yourself, with no follow-up to check on your needs. The only positive is the parking garage which was covered and it was easy to find a parking spot. It is very spacious and clean on the inside. read more

I came here with my wife, our daughter-in-law and grandbaby. This is the only location that isn't downtown. The decor is pretty spiffy. This place is a southern Louisiana version of Luby's. The girls didn't care for the day's special which was meatloaf with a tomato based sauce, they thought it was too chewy and lacked fllavor. The sides were good to great. Black eyed peas, butternut squash, squash casserole were all 5 stars, the french fries were 3 stars. I gave 5 stars to my chicken and sausage gumbo, great roue, flavorful tender hunks of chicken and sausage, found the bottom of the bowl and I was looking for more. I really didn't need a piece of carrot cake but I enjoyed it, 4 stars, it was a smidge too dry for 5 stars. They brought some tasty bread and butter when we first sat down. First time visiting this location. Love that it's in close proximity to parking if you choose to park in the parking garage. Super relaxed and comfortable inside the restaurant. It was a nice crisp day so I chose to eat outside on there. Cute patio furniture. The food was amazingly delicious! Highly recommend the jalapeño cornbread!!! I love me a good piece of salmon, so I was very curious to try theirs! It did not disappoint. The honey mustard sauce paired perfectly with the pan seared salmon. The collard greens had lots of flavor with bacon added to it. Will be visiting this place again in the future! read more

Just as good as I remembered!! I would always go the location in the tunnels downtown years ago and loved the food. At this location the food was just as good!! I ordered the shrimp étouffée, squash casserole, and banana pudding for dessert . All items were great and the staff was soooo friendly. After eating me and my friend went to the bar to have a drink and the bartender was super nice and answered any questions we had. I ordered an old fashioned (made perfect) and the catfish hush puppies. Good food and good environment. I've already made plans to return at the end of the month. read more

Still a good meal, but a let down from the downtown church location. We ate dinner here on a weekend night. The gumbo looked and tasted like it'd been sitting since the morning. It was too thick and lifeless. The diet Coke was flat. Cornbread and bread comes with fake butter, unlike at the downtown location. We asked for real butter and got it but I'm surprised a restaurant that was always dedicated to quality is serving face butter. Requests to the cashier for special touches on the gumbo, like extra green onions, went unfulfilled. The veggie plate comes as three separate small dishes instead of on one, appealling, dinner plate. The magic of Treebeard's is that the main downtown location is open just a few hours for lunch, and only Monday to Friday, in a charming location like the social hall of the pretty Christ Church Cathedral. It's great to have a Treebeard's open at night and outside of downtown, but next time I'll stick with the downtown one. There's no magic at Memorial. Positives: Good service, not noisy. read more

This new outpost of Houston favorite Treebeards opened recently in a brand new office/retail center on the Katy Fwy. The best way to enter is from the Katy Fwy. frontage road and then follow signs for retail parking which can include some ground floor parking next to the restaurant or you may have to park in the attached free multi level garage. Treebeards is located on the ground floor of the center on the backside. Inside there is one large dining room adjacent to the ordering counter and kitchen. One of the four sides of the main dining room abuts to the the bar and its own dining and drinking area. In that area, a large glass wall can open to the outdoor dining/drinking area. This area is basically tables and chairs and I don't remember seeing any table umbrellas to offer sun/rain protection. I've been twice now and both were for lunch. First time was to eat the baked catfish with a shrimp étouffée topping and green beans and mac n cheese for sides. My plate was delivered to the table in about 5 minutes after ordering and paying at the counter. Accompanying the food was a complimentary bread basket and butter. The entree was very good in taste with a generous amount of catfish and that delicious shrimp étouffée. Very yummy. The green beans and mac n cheese added to the pleasure. Oh, I like the bread here too. My second visit was for the traditional Treebeards favorite of red beans and rice along with a link of sausage. Feeling extra hungry that day, I added a cup of the beans and beef chili with some additional cheese on top and of course the free bread basket. Man, that was a lot of food! The red beans and rice are of New Orleans quality and that is a compliment. Very good sausage too. Ditto on the chili. A bowl of that alone would make for a good meal. Open 7 days a week and with daily specials, what's keeping you from eating here? The parking is free, the food affordable and it's in a nice atmosphere. They have a full bar if that's your desire. The only negative I found was that in the main dining room, the wi-fi signal is almost non-existent so if that's important to you sit away from the end near the kitchen. read more

I worked downtown and ate at all of the downtown locations quite a bit, so here's what needs to improve at the Memorial location as far as the red beans and rice and chocolate cake go: (1) Serving size - the red beans and rice serving size needs to be larger, on the order of ~20% larger, (2) watery - there was too much water in the red beans and rice - the beans need to be drained more, (3) cheese - the cheese needs to pretty much cover the serving - I estimate an additional tablespoon of ground cheese is needed, (4) freshness of cake - the cake was not fresh, it was perhaps a day or two old, (5) flies - there is zero excuse for a customer to have flies buzzing around the table while one tries to eat. Fix these things, Treebeards, and earn a 4 or 5 star food rating. Fail to fix them and the food rating will head downward after my next visit. These changes would impact your bottom line very little. read more

Finally, I found a place that cooks collard greens and squash casserole as good as my grandma's! Catfish was on point... served with great cocktail and tartar sauce.. my husband got the shrimp étouffée and it was Bomb Diggity! So is the chocolate cake! I cannot believe all the low reviews... This place is awesome if you're looking for a Southern, home-cooked meal. Most collard greens are way too salty... Theirs are PERFECT! Red beans and rice were DELICIOUS! This will be our new staple restaurant. So excited they have one in our neighborhood and I don't have to go to downtown. Fried deviled eggs are shareable but they are so delicious you may not want to. Yummy, pimento cheese with Club crackers and celery. I will come back for the shrimp queso Blanco because I've never had it yet but it's on the list. The roasted salmon with creole mustard sauce is an every day special and you get two sides with that. I normally get mac & cheese, which is very good and red beans and rice. When I think of Treebeards, I think of comfort food! I like that they have DAILY SPECIALS like Monday's meatloaf, Tuesday is chicken fried steak. Wednesday's jerk chicken. Thursday is meatloaf. Friday is blackened, catfish with étouffée topping. Saturday and Sunday is barbecue, shrimp and grits. Saturday dinner had 2 choices: pot roast or pecan crusted tilapia with a lemon butter sauce, which is to die for! Sunday, dinner is pot roast! Deserts are big enough for sharing like a nice butter cake or yellow cake with chocolate icing, which is my favorite, Italian cream cake, chocolate cake with chocolate icing. They also have red velvet cake, carrot cake, lemon cake, bread, pudding with whiskey sauce, and banana pudding! Service is always good. They bring your food out to you once you order at the counter so it's more casual and you do have to refill your own drinks. I really wanted this to be a good experience. It's kind of like a Cajun/creole Panera with cocktails. Order, get the table flag and they bring the food to you. (It would have been nice to know that's the style ahead of time) Onto the service: I tipped at the payment station. DO NOT DO THIS. I thought by doing this, it would ensure I'd get good service. Nope. I had to chase down my food, accompanying sides and other things. Irritation level was high after that. Noticed that when these people want to go home, they will stare you down (not us, but others) while telepathically telling you to GTFOH! I mean, you can't be mad that they want to go home but it was still uncomfortable. The food: Just ok. Decent flavor and seasonings but not something I'd return for. Ordered dessert and someone literally either cut into it or stuck their finger in it. Didn't have the energy to complain so I just threw it away. Went here for lunch with a big group of coworkers when I was in Houston for a work meeting. We were able to walk over here from the Hotel ZaZa, where we were staying nearby. I'm not sure if I just didn't order the right thing or what, but all told, I wasn't impressed with this place. I ordered a salad and just felt like it was pre-made with Saran Wrap just sitting there waiting for someone to order it. It didn't have enough dressing on the side. I felt like it was just lettuce, walnuts and cheese. So very basic and just not good. The yellow cake with chocolate icing seemed to be calling my name. So I ordered a piece of that. It also wasn't good. It tasked like someone used a Betty Crocker cake mix with Duncan Hines frosting....and wasn't even that fresh (was probably baked the day prior). I was kicking myself for ordering that cake only because some coworkers walked next door to a cookie place and let me have a bite of their cookies. It was soooo good. So please do yourself a favor and skip dessert at Treebeards and get a cookie a few shops over. The only reason this is two stars is because the space is really nice and there is a vast array of seating. Also, my coworkers who ordered more "hearty" meals (ie meatloaf) seemed to really enjoy it. So I'd MAYBE give this place another chance if someone else made me come here in the future. Not likely, though. read more

The food is great and tasty, my 3 star rating is due to the food size. The small sizes are highway robbery. The small chicken I got was not 4 oz despite the workers claiming it to be. I love Treebeards for what it's, not what it isn't or what people expect it to be. What it's not, it's not a fancy gourmet restaurant, it's not wait staff falling all over you, it's a casual restaurant. Order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. If you're lucky enough to get a table in the bar area, you will get table service. Of all the dishes served, I like the Red Beans and Rice w/ sausage best of all; add cheese and onions and it's heavenly. Don't forget the Jalapeno Cornbread and a side of Collard Greens. Second favorite entree is the Shrimp Etouffee. I've had 80% of what's offered at Treebeards and have never been disappointed. My only complaint is sometimes the food isn't hot enough for my taste. I finally stopped by the new Treebeard's locale and was not disappointed. I've been a fan of their various downtown locations for years and when I heard they were moving closer to our neck of the woods, I was very excited to check it out! (then covid hit, and finally making up for last time) The new store is part of a mixed use building on Gaylord near Memorial High School. They share the first floor with Texadelphia next door and have a great little green space between the two, with outdoor seating and turf lawn, in case the weather is good. Otherwise there's ample seating options inside, both booth and table. If you're familiar with Treebeard's other locations, you're most likely used to the cafeteria style setup, where you grab a lunch tray and walk down a long counter top picking and choosing what looks good on the other side of the glass. Not so, for this location. Here you walk up to a counter and peruse the menu, make your order, and the food is brought out to your table. Besides that, it's the same excellent Southern cuisine. Etouffee, gumbo, fried chicken, cat fish, okra, and not to mention rotating daily specials. Prices are low and quality is high, so definitely swing by to check it out. read more

OK, so I'm still in the midst of my spring cleanse and I wanted some light seafood with a kick, so I went to the new Treebeard's in Memorial. Short version: A clean, quiet oasis of Texas-Creole goodness where the staff is friendly, the food is decent and the atmosphere is stylish but not stuffy. It is definitely worth a visit! Long version: Most Yelpers have (hopefully) read my review of Treebeard's "Cloister" in downtown, so suffice to say that the cuisine is exactly the same as the other locations. However, what makes this place stand out is the fresh, aesthetically pleasing dining area, the bar and the service. As most other Yelpers have noted - yes, it is kind of difficult to get here, especially if it is your first time. The easiest way to get here is to make a u-turn under I-10 at the Bunker Hill exit, and take the very first driveway on the right to get there. (There's a lot of construction in the vicinity if that helps.) Then just follow the signs to the parking garage, where the restaurant is located. But I digress. If you like the Treebeard's locations in the downtown area, then you'll really like this location. Besides the abundant parking, there is both indoor/outdoor seating, table service and - yes - A BAR, complete with TV! I decided to try the cornbread-crusted catfish fillet with red beans & rice and a side salad. All three came out hot, fresh and tasty. Of course, since I like my food ultra-spicy, it necessitated some Tabasco to give it a kick. My dining companion had the same entree but opted for the mac-and-cheese and jalapeno cornbread. Here's where we have to reluctantly deduct a star. The mac-and-cheese started out piping hot and tasty, but as my friend worked his way down the bowl, he (and I) noticed that the pasta got gummy and the cheese took on an oily consistency. Not good. The jalapeno cornbread was another disappointment. It wasn't spicy in the least - even after biting into a jalapeno slice. It was also dry and lacked flavor. Ugh. The service was attentive and polite. We never had to ask for anything, which to me is a sign of professionalism and courtesy. Nice. So, fellow Yelpers - if you are free some weekend after running errands along the I-10 corridor, make a pit stop here for some delicious old-school food.
