Returned for Southern comfort food. Casual service with order at the front and bring food to your number. Pluses 1. Ample indoor dining and outdoor patio 2. Ice tea had three flavors 3. Chicken pot pie was personal size and was good value for $15 with two sides 4. Mac and cheese very cheesy and good texture 5. Cup of gumbo was good 6. shrimp and grits was good Areas to improve 1. He thought the jambalaya was not very good 2. The corn bread was warm but too dry for me, it was difficult to swallow even with the butter We will be back to try other specials. I'm curious to try their Shepherds pie.

I absolutely loved this place! The prices I felt were very reasonable for the amount of food I received. I had the chicken fried chicken and felt like the batter was perfectly cooked, flavored, and crispy, which I love. The chicken was also juicy, which was really nice. I had the brussels sprouts and macaroni and cheese as my sides, which were both fantastic! I especially loved the fried deviled eggs as an appetizer. Customer Service was super friendly and helpful and the service was very quick. I love the atmosphere and outside patio area. Overall, I will definitely come back.

+Customer service was excellent. +The 8oz chicken fried chicken and two sides ($16.00) was delicious. -The large beef and bean chili with rice and onions ($9.50) was okay. -The complimentary bread was meh. If they improve the complimentary bread, this place would be 5-stars.

Let's come right to the point Shrimp étouffée delicious good flavor lots of vegetable In order to make it more flavorful, you do have to put their sauce the hot sauce, one of the best you can even use Tabasco fried deviled eggs oh my God, so delicious and then we had vegetable soup all this food you need to add sauce to it to bring out the flavor go ahead enjoy that southern style. Best food you won't regret it. very reasonable price good quality good quality

This is the best location for Treebeards thanks to the ample parking and the hours. The food is excellent. If you're sitting in the bar area there is a waiter, but otherwise it is a counter service and then the food is brought to you. You can get your own tea and fountain drinks and also silverware. The red beans and rice are a staple and something I get every time I am in town.

Treebeards was amazing! Beautiful Ambience Lots of Good Choices Amazing Desserts. A nice spread for a reasonable price and lots of parking! They have a garage. We went here for our couples dinner and stayed until closing time, the service was quick and easy and the food was delicious, the wait staff was nice and accommodating, only thing is you have to remember to order before you sit. Worth a try!

I got the daily special chicken fried chicken with dirty rice and French fries. The chicken was crunchy and tender enough to cut with a fork. The dirty rice has banana peppers or some sort of yellow pepper that I not a big fan of but still was very good. French fries were fresh and crispy, if it was hit with a little more salt fresh out the grease it would be perfect, still good. The gravy was also delicious. Plus they gave complimentary bread, although I did not try it. Overall I'd give it a 7.7/10 for taste and 10/10 for price. This meal was only $11.20 and with tip $14.50!

Ordering was a breeze. We sat our self and waited maybe 15min if not less then our food was served. All the staff were nice. Love the indoor / outdoor seating. Fried deviled eggs.....over priced but the flavor was a 10/10 Mac n cheese 9/10 Greens 8/10 Bbq shrimp and grits 8/10 Shrimp étouffée 9/10 The food needed to be served hot and not room temp.

I wasn't sure what to expect as this was an impromptu visit and I hadn't looked at the menu in advance. I had the chicken pot pie, green beans and mac and cheese. Everything was delicious!! Good, solid southern food. I'll definitely be back to try some more.

I have a super helpful Yelp Elite mentor who lives in Houston. This individual says Treebeards is one of the three top foodie hot spots in all of Houston. That's good enough for me. My Yelp mentor says the service is 5-Star. Like all Yelp Elite folks, my Yelp mentor says, the atmosphere is perfect" Five Lone Stars! At Treebeards, every meal means time to celebrate! Go there and two-step and swing with authentic truly Western USA folks with can't miss scrumptious chow. Howdy Y'all Peace, Mark C

I used to go here all the time downtown. I haven't been in a long while so when they put this up on the meeting place for post church lunch I was excited. Now I probably went a bit overboard in ordering but I wanted my kid to sample a few things. The only thing we didn't get that I used to always order was the red beans and rice with sausage link. It's good but I only used to order it because it used to be the cheapest thing on the menu. My kid didn't like red beans and rice though (last time I got it at a food truck) so I decided to pass. Instead I ordered the seafood gumbo (a bit bland - their branded hot sauce helped), fried catfish with étouffée topping (the best of the lot) and a side of tartar, and the jambalaya (also a bit bland). For sides we got mashed potatoes (they have the variety that has chunks of potatoes and skin), jalapeño corn bread (a bit dry), squash casserole (also kinda dry), and fries (nice - best side of the lot). For desert we got the Italian cream cake (still fire), yellow cake (kinda dry but ok if you take a bite with the frosting), buttercake (super sweet like I remember it) and banana pudding (which was arguably the best of the dessert bunch). The staff was super duper nice and not rushed like downtown. Overall the food was decent but not like I remember it downtown in the 90's. I think maybe eating is all about being in the moment. So while the nostalgia will live on I guess it'll never be quite the same.

The meatballs and tomato sauce were both solid and I loved the toasted bread on the side. As for the truffle deviled eggs, that's something you don't see often on the menu! The truffle flavor/aroma was solid and the fresh chips on top were nice. The cheeseburger was pretty good and I enjoyed all the veggies that came with! Eat, Drink, HTX…read more Made a reservation for a Sunday night dinner for three. The restaurant is so cute and cozy with tables and booths. Lots of TVs to watch the Olympic Games while you wait for dinner. I liked watching the open pizza oven. They make a lot of pizzas here. The Eat, Drink, HTX menus are a great way to try new restaurants while giving back to the Houston Food Bank. A starter, an entree and a dessert. $25 for dinner. So many choices on this menu. A great deal while helping out those in need. "Started" with the Turkey Samosas. Four crispy pastries that are filled with seasoned ground turkey, potatoes and parsley served with cucumber yogurt. Delicious! The Ember & Greens Soup that my family had was hot, hot, hot and so tasty. The fresh soup was filled with a blend of spinach, parsley, and cilantro with chickpeas, caramelized onions, pinto beans and quinoa. My FIL polished off his bowl! For dinner, we all had the Blackened Salmon. The salmon with lemon butter and avocado salsa served on roasted carrots, broccoli and potatoes and a bed of quinoa. It was a full plate, which we all took home for dinner the next day. Note: it is quite buttery. My FIL had his butter and avocado salsa on the side which worked for him. I loved mine as is. Even though we were pretty full, we still enjoyed dessert. The tiramisu was so indulgent. Loved the layered mascarpone custard, whipped cream, coffee liqueur and coffee-soaked ladyfingers. My FLI had the Chia Seed Pudding with fresh berries. What a great meal. We had a slight hiccup where the appetizers came slightly after the main meal was served, but they were so honest about what happened that I still have to give them five stars for their food and their service. Would try them again for their generous, delicious meals. Lots of parking. Water glasses were frequently filled both with and without meals. Thank you for a really nice Sunday night dinner with family.

It was a beautiful day, so it would have been the perfect day to eat outside if you like that. I'm an eat indoors kind of person, but if you like to eat outside, they do have a few tables for that. I was meeting a friend for lunch and she suggested Ember & Green. We really couldn't decide what to order, so we decided to order a few things and share them. We started off with the Persian Cucumber Sald. It had Persian cucumbers, heirloom cherry tomatoes, red onions, and Kalamata olives with oil and lemon dressing and topped with parsley and feta cheese. Let me tell you, thats lemon dressing was delicious! It went so well with the cucumbers. Next we ordered Blackened salmon with lemon butter and avocado salsa, served with charred broccolini, roasted carrots and potatoes on a bed of cilantro green pea quinoa. I'm really not a huge fan of salmon, but I'm trying to like it more by trying it different ways. The spices that they put on the salmon were really good, not too spicy, but also, not bland. It was also cooked perfectly. Oh, and that lemon butter... that lemon butter made the meal if you ask me. It was so good. So good in fact, I had to try and make salmon with lemon butter at him the very next week. Mine didn't come out as good as Ember & Greens, but it was decent. That just means that I need to leave the cooking to the professional. For dessert we decided to share the Skillet Cookie. Its a house made chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with Amy's Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream and chocolate sauce. This was the only thing that we ordered that was a nope. I dont know what happened, but it didn't seem like it was cooked at all in the middle. We took a few bites, that was all we could eat of it. All and all, it was a good experience and I will go back. I'll just skip dessert next time.

Just a heads up, this place is counter service, so you order at the front and then grab a table. The crawfish garlic butter sauce actually has really good flavor, but the crawfish themselves weren't very juicy. It tasted like most of the flavor stayed on the outside rather than soaking into the crawfish. If they let the crawfish sit in the sauce longer, I think it would make a big difference. The fried catfish was solid, and the whole wings were good. Regular wings were just okay. Prices are pretty reasonable though around $10/lb normally, and they are running a special of 5 lbs for $45. Overall, a decent spot with potential. If the crawfish were juicier, I'd definitely come back because the sauce itself is actually pretty good!

At your own risk, I guess. Food was overall average- went with seafood options which were well cooked but nothing to write home about. The grouper has too many sweet elements which I was concerned about when ordering- would have liked some savoury bite in there. The 7 layer chocolate cake was perfectly balanced dessert as well. Not too sweet and loved the crispy/crunchy bits.
