The Butter cake, moist and delicious! I ordered red beans and rice, Mac & cheese to go! Oh, and a slice of chocolate cake! My friend had the fried catfish, Mac & cheese and collard greens, in which she said was delicious! She also had the Butter cake and ordered chili and a slice of strawberry cake for later! Shrimp Etoufee is garbage. If you want a big bowl of bell peppers and onions with about 6 small shrimp that were bought frozen; go for it. The shrimp are not fresh and peeled, makes the dish awful. Once you find the shrimp and eat them; you're left what a huge bowl of onions. Do better. read more

OMG, I am beyond excited. Have been since I first heard Treebeards was opening up a location in the Memorial area! The store is gorgeous & is a great place to grab lunch, happy hour or dinner (they are only open 11am - 3pm for now but will expand hours, hopefully soon). The restaurant is on the ground floor of the parking garage & faces Gaylord so sitting on the patio is a must, especially when Houston's weather is nice. The food is just as delicious as their other locations. I'm a red beans & rice kinda gal & this dish never disappoints. The jalapeno cornbread is a must with this dish! Next time I will order the trio plate so I can try the shrimp etouffee & gumbo. read more

Fresh ingredients all around. I ordered the catfish, dirty, rice and collard greens. Each of the items were fresh especially the catfish. I also tried the carrot cake which was really good. Every time I go here, I'm less impressed than before. The food has always been mediocre, IMO, as well as a little overpriced, and the menu is sparse to begin with. Today I stopped in just to kill some time while my wife was occupied. Just got an iced tea to enjoy while sitting in their outdoor area. I was amazed that, as a "Texas tradition," they didn't have sweet tea. Then, after I got comfortably seated, and got my tea sweetened, I discovered that the tea in one of the "Classic Black Tea" dispensers was some kind of fruity... well, I realize that some people like fruity tea, so I'll just leave it at that. So I went back in, dumped it out, and then saw that there was a strawberry/mango dispenser that wasn't there two minutes before; there had only been two "Classic" urns earlier. So I asked one of the guys at the counter if both "Classic" urns were supposed to be plain iced tea. He said they were. So I said, "well this one isn't; it has some kind of fruity crap in it." He just shrugged, and did nothing. So now the next person looking for plain iced tea will get ambushed, as well. Not impressed, yet again. I have been to location 3 times, but this time I ordered almost an hour ahead for curbside. I called when I arrived and they promptly brought it to me. I ordered 2 yellow cake slices and a chocolate slice. A large jambalaya and dirty rice. Which tasted fine. The problem the cake my daughter was eating had a large piece of egg shell. Now I've been to 2 other locations mainly downtown and never had this problem. That is over 20 years no problems, but this recent time has me worried about having my my cake. read more

Excellent food, beautiful Memorial location, but needs MAJOR help when it comes to service. Treebeards is used to a downtown lunch crowd, and not a full-service bar at happy hour. Honestly, the process is broken. The bar and outside dining area are full, and yet there is one server who doubles as a bartender, and two food runners. Everyone was so frustrated trying to figure out where to order, who was in charge, etc. food was slow, and cocktails were slower. Treebeards management needs to truly reevaluate their processes to accommodate this new dining experience. We love dining here but it's just a mess. read more

This suburbia outpost was a little hard to find since it was located on the ground floor of a office building. However there were plenty of free parking spaces. Nicely decorated indoor dining area with a bar facing a decent sized outside eating area. The menu was limited, but prices were very affordable. We ordered vegan red beans & rice, seafood gumbo, buttercake, and bread pudding in whiskey sauce from the walk up counter. Everything tasted fantastic and the portions were appropriate for the prices. All the employees were helpful and friendly. We definitely will return if we are in the area. read more

I missed Treebeards's food so much. I worked at the Market Square location 10 years ago. I noticed this location has been opened for a while, but I didn't have a chance to visit until yesterday. Parking garage on the back has plenty of spots. The place is new and clean. My husband and I ordered baked chicken, jambalaya and carrot cake. Food was tasty as always. Okay so Lilly and Celeste are the absolute best bartenders ever. They're so much fun and always provide great service. However with that being said today was a lackluster showing by the kitchen. The chicken fried chicken was probably the most boring and flavorless dish I've had in recent memory. The queso with crab and shrimp was okay but again mediocre today. I was excited to hear that they opened a location on the west side of town. Unfortunately, it is definitely not the same experience or food as the original downtown location. The décor inside the restaurant is very nice. It even includes a very nice bar area. But nothing inside reminds me of the other location. The food was okay but was definitely lacking. Great vibe but food was average and we were WAY disappointed by the size of the chicken fried chicken! When they brought it out, I thought they gave me the wrong size, thinking it was the small, but it was actually the large! I saw the small in someone's review photo, and apparently the small size is a chicken strip, not even joking. read more

Highly recommend any of their southern comfort food options especially the veggie sides! My squash casserole was delicious. I also loved the fried green tomatoes. Their desserts look delicious as well! However I would steer away from the Cajun dishes if you are from Louisiana/familiar with Cajun food (gumbo, jambalaya, red beans). The jambalaya had huge chunks of veggies, was soupy, and the rice was clearly not cooked in the dish but rather added in later. Very non-traditional jambalaya and it was fine but not really that flavorful and not what I was expecting. The boyfriend said the gumbo was also just meh. I was a big fan of the Treebeards on Travis (downtown) and was sorry to see it close. Just like the downtown location, I found that the food is still great and the staff is friendly. The upside to no longer being downtown is that they are now open for happy hour and dinner. Unlike the Travis location, this location has a bar. Please note, however, that maneuvering through the Memorial City area traffic can be a bit troublesome at times. read more

Basically fast food with a dine in presence. You walk in and "walk up" to a window to order. They provide you with a number and go to your selected table. This evening the food (all be it Incorrect ) came promptly! The person taking our order apparently missed an entree so all the food came less one entree. So we had to go back and wait in a (long) line so the rest of the party now have their food and all but the one missing entree is on the table hot. Now we had to go back and wait in line (again) to pay for the missing entree and wait for it to be prepared. So by this time all the sides we ordered were almost cold and they forgot the pie. I will say the manager (when we ordered) was very nice but made no attempt to help when our order was a mess. But ok... the quality of the food was good but pedestrian in flavors . Great neighborhood spot if you don't want to cook and you just want to grab and go. But don't expect a gourmet meal here. read more

I loved Treebeard's when I worked downtown decades ago. I am so excited they are in the I10 Bunker Hill area now. Although the original owners sold it, the red beans and rice are as delicious as I remember. I don't get the sausage, but hub has and was underwhelmed with it. Squash casserole is the bomb. Hub has enjoyed the catfish, both fried and baked (there's a 20 minute wait for baked but that just tells me they don't nuke it, so I'm good with that). The jalapeño cornbread is a little too crumbly for me, but tastes great. Haven't tried the butter cake yet to see if it's as good as it used to be. I have their recipe and have made my own, but I'll probably break down and get it one of these days just so I don't have a whole cake staring at me at home. . Indoor and patio dining. Just as good as the downtown locations. Had a large shrimp rotifer and large jambalaya and a big slice of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for a total of$27.32 before tip.
