Right on US 1, this landmark of a local seafood joint did not disappoint! To start, Tracy (our waitress) was amazing! Friendly, efficient, and very bubbly, she's a definite asset to the restaurant! A cyberspace super thank you to her! I had a cup of seafood chowder, which was out of this world! At least a dozen shrimps, a ton of scallops, and great haddock. Also had the fish and chips, with onion rings instead of fries, and that was a great choice! The rings were thinly hand cut and delicious! And the fish delicately fried and tasty, and there was plenty of both on the plate. My wife had a haddock salad, which she scarfed up very fast, so I suspect that it was also very good. They have plenty of outdoor sitting space, nice inside space, and a side window to order right off the parking lot and drive away. This roadside stand "missed the mark", we were disappointed after a late lunch yesterday afternoon. My wife wanted a cup of clam chowder, the young guy working the counter informed me that the cup size of clam chowder wasn't available, so I had to purchase a 16oz container (for $15.50). I figured we'd share the chowder, but when we opened it in the car, it was mostly liquid. To make matters worse, it was lousy, no flavor. For my meal, I had ordered a garden salad with grilled haddock. The salad was yellowed romaine lettuce, with some cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and red onions with the fish on top. Salad was so bad, I didn't even finish it. $10.50 for the salad and $12.50 for the fish, to put it bluntly, that was a rip-off. My Mother In Law ordered a chicken sandwich, it was just a processed patty on a bun. Onion rings were good though, and the Fish tacos were decent. The only thing we did all really enjoy was the Blueberry shake, and the kid at window had forgotten to give it to me when he handed me our food. Had to go back and ask, "Where's my shake ?" O well, needless to say, we won't be stopping back at Tracy's Seafood again (maybe for a shake or ice cream, but not food), and I can't recommend this roadside stand. read more

This roadside seafood spot is family owned and operated. Walk up to the window to order to go, or walk inside to a small, dining area. Nothing fancy whatsoever, but nothing shabby either. A crushed rock outside eating area has several patio style tables, one with an umbrella. Their claim to fame is their "Two Lobster rolls for $27" deal. The lobster rolls are smaller than usually offered along the coast, but they are loaded with fresh, locally sourced lobster meat. Chose the butter option rather than the mayo option. The order usually comes with some nice potato chips, but we usually order a large French fry to go with the lobster rolls. The service is what you'd expect from a family run place. A high school kid with zero training might take your order, but overall, the Tracy family members are polite and good-hearted. We have stopped at Tracy's many times over the years and have never been disappointed. read more

Cute little restaurant with about 12 tables inside and some picnic tables outside. The service was fantastic. The young lady was very attentive to all of us and very helpful. There was 4 of us. Each couple ordered the Captain's Platter. It contained fries, onion rings, Haddock, Fried Shrimp, Fried Clams, and Scallops. Everything was fried to perfection. The onion rings and Haddock were very good. My friend also ordered 2 lobsters to go. One was 2 1/2 pounds and the other was 1 1/2 pounds for a total of 4 pounds to make lobster rolls at home. I was there on Mother's Day & had a boiled lobster & it was excellent. I went back with some friends last night 6/3 & wanted the same thing. it was a very small, maybe 1# & had been re-cooked about 3 times. I couldn't even eat it. the waitress said they "parboil" them??? never heard of that. She offered me another lobster, but my friends were finished eating & I didn't want another "parboiled" one.... not a very happy customer. Short story: Food was delicious, but I got sick twice eating here, and the service is slow enough you could grow a beard waiting for your food. Long story: My family ate here twice while vacationing. I got sick afterward both times. First time, I thought it was a fluke but not after the second. Both times, the service was super slow. Like molasses slow. Slow enough to watch grass grow. We ate inside the first time, but it was very warm and just one server to attend everyone. We ate our whole meals without anything to drink because she didn't refill them and kept forgetting when we asked. Second time, we decided to do the takeout counter, thinking it would be faster. It wasn't. They lost our ticket, and 45 minutes later called us up to the counter to inform us they'd just found it and would start making our order. We ended up waiting over an hour for a takeout order. They didn't put the chips in with the haddock sandwiches. When my husband pointed out the menu says the sandwiches came with chips, they actually argued with him until he showed them the menu. Then the gal very slowly put some chips (think Ruffles) in a small container acting very irritated about it like it was coming out of her paycheck. Later, my husband marvelled that she could actually move that slow and act so disgusted about giving us the chips we'd paid for especially after waiting so long. They didn't even offer an apology. If I lived there, I'd never go back. End of story: go here only if you want to risk getting sick and you have time to grow old waiting for your dinner. This business treats people of color poorly and serves reduced portion sizes. We received a lobster roll where I had to open the bread to see the lobster and the clam chowder had 1 piece of clam and 1 piece of potato in a huge container swimming in muddy looking broth with a thick yellow ring of oil. The wings also were poorly done. None of it looked like the pictures others have posted. It all went in the trash as I couldn't trust what they may have done to my food. It was a bit of a wait but the dinners were definitely worth waiting for. And we also enjoyed a couple of drinks before our dinner arrived and they were satisfyingly well made.There was one thing that needed improvement and that was the tartar sauce! What was once a culinary haven, celebrated for its impeccable service and delectable cuisine, has regrettably transformed into a disheartening shadow of its former self. Upon entering the restaurant, one is immediately struck by the noticeable shift in ambiance. Gone are the seasoned professionals who once graced the floor with their expertise and charm. In their place are a cadre of inexperienced youngsters, clearly lacking the finesse and training necessary to deliver a satisfactory dining experience. Their phones and social media seem to be the focus. The service, which was once a hallmark of Hellen's, has now become a source of frustration and disappointment. We entered the restaurant on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2:37PM. The restaurant was not busy. We were promptly seated, and overused the menu, setting them down to signal the staff at 2:45. We could not help but notice the wait staff huddled at the register, as we were seating up front, so certainly would not be overlooked. At 3:01PM we left, and I stated to the young lady at the register that 20 mins waiting to order was not acceptable, but that we wanted to let them know why we were leaving. We were very polite, yet the young lady simply responded with, "OK." Basic service-oriented etiquette seems to have been replaced by a sense of apathy. It is evident that the staff seemed more interest in social media than the diners. As a loyal patron, it pains me to witness the current state of the Ellsworth eatery, while the Hellen's in Machias remains exceptional. Unless swift and decisive action is taken to address these issues, I fear that Hellen's will continue its descent into irrelevance, catering only to visitors, leaving behind a legacy tarnished by mediocrity. On the plus side, we did stop at Tracy's after leaving Hellen's and had a very good lunch. We went on the excellent opinion of the food there by our friend John, and he was correct: the food at Tracy's is very good. So, the afternoon hunt for sustenance was not a total loss. We will be stopping at Tracy's again, very soon. read more

Be warned you may have to wait for your food a while. We love Tracey's for certain things. Their chowder is nothing to write home about but their fist sandwiches and rolls almost always hit the spot. Great onion rings, decent fries, plethora of ice cream options. It is indeed frustrating that although this place doesn't appear to be too busy, they are always for some reason on anywhere from a half an hour to over an hour wait. Perhaps they are understaffed, perhaps their kitchen is not operating efficiently. Perhaps they are simply taking too many to go orders over the phone or they do not have capability for the amount of parking spots they have but they should really warn you when you order the food is going to take over an hour to come out. We stopped for takeout one evening right around 5:00pm. It was September so things were slowing down. There are no prices on the menu displayed outside but they have paper menus with prices if you ask for one. We ordered the two for $20 lobsters rolls, and the seafood chowder. It took about 15 minutes to get our food. The lobster rolls were not overly stuffed but they had a decent amount of chunky lobster with a light mayonnaise dressing. They were served on a buttered, toasted roll. There were some random shells we found while eating. In the end, the rolls were satisfying enough. The seafood chowder cost $15. It was mostly white fish (I presume haddock) and these tiny, tiny, tiny shrimp. There was a 1/2 piece of scallop. There were no clams - which is odd to me. Also, no vegetables - which is ok - just seafood. The broth was a light cream sauce so it was not thick. The chowder was overly salty to me but I added some sherry at home which lightened it up. Tracey's has lots of different types of fried seafood. And lots of ice cream, hard and soft. There are outdoor picnic tables and a small room inside with maybe 10 tables. They will serve you indoors but not out. The restaurant is right on route 1 so it's pretty noisy. read more
